V1.11 now available - Mass Storage and AutoCrafting!

In the quest to allow YOU to have a completely amazing automated base, I now present to you FortressCraft : Evolved patch 1.11.

The main features are the Personal Storage system and the Mass Storage System. You can now (T)ransfer items into Storage Hoppers by pointing at them and pressing T - this allows you to clear out all of those smelted Bars that're clogging up your inventory.

You can build Storage Crates for manual storage, to store items you don't need. These can't be automated.

Finally, there's support for Automated Crafting.

Those patchnotes in full: (V1.11)

  • Added overflow item queue for items that don't fit in conversion.
  • Fixed infinite ore bug via 'feed ore' button.
  • Player data stored via Steam ID instead of display name. This will fix game progress being reset when you change your steam display name. Old files will convert to new format. NOTE: If your steam display name was a valid hexadecimal number (only characters 0-9 and A-F or a-f), game will refuse to convert. In that case abort the ship crash by exiting before it completes and manually copy the contents over to the new folder.
  • Added Mass Storage facility
  • Added Mass Storage Input Port
  • Added Mass Storage Output Port
  • Added Mass Storage Input cargo robots
  • Minor fix to ensure dropped Items do not get embedded in the ground so much
  • You can now press T to Transfer items from your Hotbar into a Storage Hopper
  • Fixed a bug with Storage Hoppers.
  • InputHoppers now attempt to use the closest Mass Storage Crates for preference.
  • InputHoppers now have an awesome preview of the items they're looking for.
  • HoloBase now knows about Mass Storage Systems
  • Manufacturing plants can now be set to automatically craft an unlimited amount of a single item. Issues WILL arise if the item needs more than 4 materials. An auto-crafting plant also requires constant power, and there's currently no point in this. (Tomorrow's task is to make the Mass Storage Crates require Tin Plates, which will in turn be dying for automation)
  • Lots of improvements related to Smelters, Storage Hoppers and Conveyor Belts to allow them to cope with Objects, Items and Cubes.
  • Added Storage Crates for manual non-automated early storage.
  • Fixed major memory leak with weather system
  • Jet Turbine power generation increased approx 10-fold (it's now 12.5x as fast at generating power as the PTG with coal)
  • Storage Hoppers no longer return incorrect item when multiple cube stacks are present
  • Crafting when inventory is full no longer removes the resources, but instead gives an appropriate error
  • New icons for most manufactured items

FortressCraft V1.10 now available!

We asked the community what the two-most demanded features were, and we've delivered those (as well as a metric ton of other fixes and improvements!)


First, we added support in for direct sort of ores on conveyor lines. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the MK1 Robot Arms:



Secondly, we've greatly improved the user interface; all of the most-used machines now have a specific, clickable dialogue box. This should allow new players to navigate and understand their base much better.

我挺喜欢这游戏的,有人说这是另一种MC,但我想这其实不是,这个游戏有着它自己独特的特点,跟MC能比的只有画质上的运用,别的我觉得比了也没用。我买回来后爱不释手,很新颖的游戏,你们想买的就不要犹豫了,入吧,这个不是坑,希望以后能添加更多的东西进这款游戏。

OK, it has blocks, crafting, and mining. That's where the similarities end really.

My daughter plays Minecraft, she plays it for hours. However, whenever I sit down to have a go, I get bored after about 20 minutes. You dig. You build. You dig. zzzz

FortressCraft is much more immediate than that. Your power is running out, you're going to freeze to death, so you need to organise. This forces you to think stategically, about power, about distance, about supply lines (and presumably, in the future, defending them from other players). It kind-of feels more like a RTS, but with blocks.

If you're used to other Mine games, this one IS even more complicated. But part of that is due to a very alpha GUI, things aren't as obvious as they could or should be. This will be fixed!

for example, bringing up your inventory, you have a bunch of blocks. What are they? no idea, a mouse-over tooltip would be nice :)

Also, I'd rather you only had things in your toolbar that you actually owned, it's too confusing with *every possible thing* being shown, yet you can't use 90% of it. Again, early access, these things are to be expected.

One thing that is immediately "wrong" with the game - shelter. If you build a "house" over your base equipment, put a torchfire or two in there, surely it should be warm enough inside that you don't freeze? What's the point of building a "Fortress" if it doesn't have any benefits lol :)

I absolutely recommend this, if you're a fan of Voxel miners or even RTS games. I see a bright future for this game, because unlike others, there is actually a game to be played, a point to it all. (you can, of course, go into creative mode and just build pretty stuff, but I kind-of don't see the point of that unless you can then turn the world into a survival one for you and your friends. No doubt that's coming too eventually).

Buy it, try it. If you don't get on with it, try it again the next update. and the next. It's going to be a good one :)

It's a good game for the price. It scratches the itch of a building game.

However, it has a lot of bugs a glitches, has no tutorial at all, and most of the features that make it really cool are difficult to figure out and find. It's almost as if they don't want you to know how to do some things.

I don't understand how it has been in development for so long and yet seems to be worse than the xbox version.

I know most people will say "it's not finished" but I purchased it on xbox years ago and it's not any better now so I think it's safe to say this is all you're getting. It's not a whole lot, it's confusing and buggy, but still a good building game for the price.

Note: This was always meant to be a temporary review. I cannot find time to continually update this review as time goes on, though. I will come back to the game someday just to check out the finished product.

Here are the pros:
1. Good graphics, the game is pretty in terms of lighting and bloom and so on, but it is a blocky style... though you should know that already.
2. Has a survival mode for game-like experience (not yet playable) and a creative mode for just building and chilling out.
3. The main menu looks kind of neat with all the sliding camera animations and dark techie rooms.
4. The way you enter worlds is cinematic and exciting the first time you play.
5. The worlds are huge. I mean huge.
6. The game is a lot more affordable than most other commercial games in the genre. (Minecraft was $25 last I checked.)

Cons:
1. Terrible UI/menu design/implementation, no mouse input! what da hell. That said, the game is in Early Access, and the devs admit the menu needs improvement.
2. Creative mode controls are awkward and simply not fun, feels very technical and poorly designed.
3. Many features do not seem to be working yet. (Duh. Early Access.) Some of these non-functional features are very hard to ignore. For example, you cannot exit a map; you have to exit and reload the entire game to go to a different map.
4. Creative mode does not offer a survival mode toggle for testing the map. (Or does it?) I would have liked some level-editing capabilities for building survival mode levels with enemy placements and NPC dialogue scripting.
5. Achievements are bad. An achievement for dying... riiiight. Perhaps the devs should refrain from adding achievements until the game is nearly complete?
6. Multiplayer is not available at all and probably will not be available for a long time. (Clarification needed.)

For a game thats "Work in Progress" its far more playable than most of these "Final Release" games and is very addictive. Just because the game is block based, and you build craft items, its not potions and crud, Minecraft this is NOT. Its machines and other wicked stuff. The Dev team are a cool and helpfull bunch, always in the forums (supprised they find time to code the game actually) to answer your questions and to comment on feedback.

Oh, Ignore the Thumbs down review's about the game beeing too complicated, It's not. Some people tend to forget this is "Work in Progress", so some of the ingame screens and menus are not complete or layed out too well with desctriptons missing, and can seem to be a little confusing, but its improving all the time.
