I really love this game; it's constantly presenting me with interesting tactical and strategic decisions, and it's doing it in a post-fall of civilization fantasy setting on an alien world. What more could I ask for!?

Wow. This is really something. Its in a completely different league from Civ or any of those space games, and not (just) because its super polished, bug free, and has awesome replayability. It has a story that drives the gameplay and factions that are unique in ways that go beyond "+5% construction bonus" and "+10 army morale bonus".

The AI is really good. Like, really good. You will be able to win on normal, but it won't be because you're roflstomping the AI into doing stupid things like sending its armies into baitstacks and declaring wars it can't win. And the difference between when you first play and when you know what you're doing will be day and night.

The bonuses in this game stack in a positive feedback kind of way--if you have enough money to buy that extra resource, you will more than make your money back, allowing you to buy that other resource to increase diplo point production so you can get that more advanced empire plan and have more money.....etc.

1. Each faction really plays differently. Especially the cultists. You could win almost any kind of victory with almost any faction, but you definitely have tools available to you to make one way much easier than others. This is all draped in some really good lore that you're rewarded with by completing quests.

2. The winter mechanic really drives home the whole "end of times is coming" theme.

3. Battles are amazing. There is a lot of awesome character animations, tons of units, and lots of different strategies to try. Why? Because battles don't just take place on one hex, they take place on a unique battlefield every time that is drawn from the terrain of the surrounding squares. You can look up on youtube what that means, but in gameplay terms it means your units getting caught in a narrow bottleneck, archers firing down death from cliffs, armies being hemmed in so tight they can't reinforce, and flying units getting into your rear to wreck your archers are all things that can happen.

Battles are also on a timer, so a smaller high quality force can definitely give a larger army some trouble. Said larger army can also then counterattack on their turn and wipe them out if they're not careful.

4. Army customization is awesome and based on resource acquisition. Proper planning to get said resources, research appropriate techs, and balance costs/benefits of more expensive units are much more important than in other games. You could try to just make an army of all juggernaut titans, but it may not be the best thing to do, as they may be too slow to destroy any units in battle.

Bad Things:

A. The endings are pretty hollow. Its like the ending of a paradox game, there's a screen that says you won and then a score screen, and thats it. I'd like at least a recap screen like civ had where it shows you how the game went over all the turns or some kind of reward, like additional lore being revealed depending on how you win. Something like WH: Dark Crusade, for example.

B. The UI is good, but not excellent. Not really a bad thing, but its definitely not the smoothest interface I've ever seen.

C. Thats it! I can't think of anything else bad about this game.

Endless Legend is a fantasy turn-based strategy game. It is comparable to Civ in some senses but the differences are what makes this game worth it.

The graphics are amazing and the varying visuals for each faction gives the feel you would want from a fantasy game.
There are less factions than there are in Civ, but each one changes the gameplay so much that it makes the race to victory different every time you play. For example one faction gains less food but makes up for it by being able to earn stockpiles (worth ~100 food) by killing enemies. Another faction can only build 1 city but can recruit minor factions to work for them.

There are many paths to a victory and it can range fom 150 turn games to 300 turn games or even more.
Each faction has their own quests in addition to the general quest that everyone recieves, and there are even group quests that all factions can take part in or sometimes race over.
You can also choose wether you want to control the fights or if it is a clear win you can automate the fight.

A learning curve as it is a very complex game. A point system shows how far each team is in their development, but do not fear if you fall behind a few points as there will be chances to catch up by paying attention to the strong points of your faction and work with that.

There are also regions that you settle in, and once that region is taken it is owned by the person who owns that settlement. That is until another faction takes over so making sure to have units defending the base is essential, since if they attack and you only have the militia to defend then there goes a while city of income.

It's like Civilization... but fun.

In all seriousness though, Endless Legend is absolutely AMAZING. It's just beautiful and everything just seems to fit together well.

Pros:

- something about the aesthetic is just... nice ._.
- not too slow paced but not too fast, just right.
- brilliantly written quest "stories" for each of the factions
- fantasy mumbo jumbo opening voice over
- long games

Cons:

- confusing tutorial (although if you've played Civ or any like it you'll catch on pretty quickly.)
- AI that will stab your ♥♥♥ for looking at them skew... (you can easily avoid the AI by making friends, you introverted ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.)
- long. ♥♥♥♥ing. games.

tl;dr version: gud game, buy it.

Well I have played just about every 4x game ever created, and this one is just blah tbh. It is pretty and well made with workable AI, but the game fails to stand out at all. There is nothing compelling or deep about it. After 49 hours and all the xpacs this game has failed to really draw me in. If you are looking for a typical midline 4x game with great presentation you will be happy. Any serious strategy gamer, or anyone looking for some magic beneath the hood, move on.

I'e never been a great fan of 4X games, but I think Endless Legend makes a good introduction to the genre. It is quite simple to understand, but feels like a lot difficult to master (and I'm not there yet). It is charming, factions play differently and it seems fast paced compared to Civ, which in my case is a net positive. And I just love the the Endless settings.

This game is a near miss for me, but after several attempts to get into it, i just cant. The asthetics are amazing and the lore and storytelling is far and above the competition.
However there are several mechanics i don't like that actually manage to make me hate the game dispite all its good points. Examples would be the terribly implemented combat, where you assign orders before the turn. This is stupid as when the AI moves before you (different units act faster than others), all your strategy becomes pointless. Its a sort of 'guess what the opponent will do' mechanic similar to endless space, but a lot more frustrating.
Then there is the occupy-a-region mechanic. On paper it sounds good, but there are times where it will annoy you to no end. This game requires large investments for a city to make a settler, and if you are one turn away from placing your settler on your chosen spot ant then bam an opponent has settled the opposite end of the region and all your effort is up in smoke.
There is also an impression that this game was released once all the features were ticked off as complete and bug free (which tbf they are), but that the devs skipped over the polish stage. At the end of combat all units still waiting to move have co 'cycle' a do-nothing action. When building a settler all population you assign to food have to be moved out (you cannot produce food when building a settler) and then back on completion, manually. And so on.
In short, this is a very well made game, but just isnt for me. However it is extremely deep and different to most of the genre (especially civ), so if you are looking for that go ahead.

After a great deal of time in the world i learn all the mechanics of the game, but only through trial and error. The brutality this game can show on the higher setting refects more of a dark souls style game where you are forced to react fast or be wiped out. Overall i think this is an amazing title in the endless series and if you are a fan of 4x you will feel right at home, but if you are new to this style of game do not expect the game to hold your hand . There will be death but there will be life.

TL;DR - 9/10, worth buying at full price if you like deep strategy games. Would be a strong 10/10 if endgame were successfully rebalanced.

Endless Legend is a deep, complex 4x game with a great selection of unique factions and a ton of strategy. Of the many 4x games I've played, this is the only one that holds up to the Civ series, and actually exceeds it in many respects. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone who loves strategy. It is fun and extremely addicting.

The game has a long learning curve - hundreds of hours in, I'm still improving. I absolutely love this about the game, though some may find it overwhelming. Every turn presents choices, and every choice feels important. Mistakes are punished harshly, and can make or break your early game. To play well, you must pay close attention to every detail. You must be aggressive but careful at the same time, and most of all, you must be thorough.

Manual combat is very difficult, and can be frustrating. Checking each unit's initiative and minding the terrain are essential. Even then, things will not go as planned. That being said, I don't see this as a weakness - just a challenge. Keep in mind, most 4x games do not feature anything close to this. And if you don't like it, you can just use auto-combat (which works quite well).

THE PROBLEM

Once you learn the ins and outs, you realize that Endless Legend has one major weakness: Endgame. The problem is with pacing, scaling, AI, and the lack of an effective "limiter".

The pace of the game accelarates as certain empires start to dominate the map, and the numbers get out of control. The victory conditions are reached too quickly, and feel anticlimactic. By the time you reach the final tier of technologies and get the best gear, the game is pretty much over and you don't get to use any of it. This is extremely disappointing after a very long game of building up to that point.

Additionally, the AI does not function well in endgame. They don't upgrade their equipment all the way, and you can crush them easily in every fight. Even on higher difficulty settings, they just pump out lots of weak armies.

Basically, endgame needs a serious rebalancing, and it needs something that slows the game down (especially victory conditions) and limits the exponential growth of empires. Approval rating (the equivalent to happiness in Civ) should be the limiting factor, but it is too easily overcome.

If the devs pulled off a serious endgame overhaul, I can say confidently that Endless Legend would be the greatest 4x game ever made. As it stands today, it's still a great game, but the disappointing endgame is a real buzz-kill.

A mix between civilization and heroes of might and magic. I definitely enjoy playing this game. It is quite complex and is meant for adults, not a kids game (too much thinking to do, nut much action). Its a thinking game, not action game. For next version the fighting needs to be more fun.

pros:

+units gain experience, level up and can be retrofitted
+does not matter who attacks first in melee
+game victory limited to 300 turns makes you think how to do things quickly (can be changed to 600 turns)
+different races
+hero quests make game fun especially during the beginning
+diplomacy options (make friends, trade research)
+minor factions keep you busy, can be assimilated and you can get interesting units
+great graphics
+game stability, does not crash

cons:
- i always run out of resources as i try to build everything
- i would need more turns in the game to achieve elimination victory

I really like the game. It has a great setup and interesting races. The mechanichs are easy to learn and easy to use.

I have one major hangup and it almost made me not recommend the game. The map is way too small. Even the biggest map will have you encounter the other races way to ealy in the game so you have little to no chance to explore and grow your own empire before you have to worry about others. I have yet to find a mod or a DLC that rectifies this so the game has been shelved until I find a sollution.

The reason I still recommend it is because it is very good. I still go back to the game just for the startup until I meet other races and replays that part. I hope this will be worked on in the future.

If you've ever wished for a fantasy version of Civ, this is the game for you.

The varied strengths/weakness of the major factions dramatically affect the strategy needed for each game which, in my opinion, makes it much more exciting.

I'll be honest, that although I became a huge fan of EL, this game isn't very newbie-friendly. There are so many elements that are very important but not decribed directly, especially battle elements. So here comes..

WARNING: If you are not used to or not comfortable with figuring out systems by yourself, this game is probably not for you.

If you have no problem with it however, I promise that you will have a real good time playing this game. You will start to understand more how systems work as you play more, and will be amazed how things are beautifully designed at the end. Gaming experience gets better and better as you understand the system and start to actively use them for your sake.

Use the community discussion section if you have questions or problems. Guys there are such kind fellas and the game developer will reply from time to time.

Planning to expand with Cultist. End up knocking every minor faction's door. "Good day, would like to hear about our lord The Endless?" -From the testimony of Endless Witness-

I must admit that I am not a huge fan of 4X strategy games, but this one takes the cake in my admittedly uneducated opinion. But that's the thing about opinions, they don't have to be objective, but objectively speaking, this game is superawesome.

Upside :
Nice gameplay, nice graphic, nice story

Downside :

Endless Legend is everything you want a civilization building turn-based strategy game to be:
+the mechanics are great
+each victory condition is well balanced
+the technology tree works
+play styles are vastly different between civilizations
+units between civilizations actually feel unique

and finally...

+the art style and the game itself is GORGEOUS.

Buy this game. Even if you don't like civilization building games, BUY THIS GAME.

Just like Endless Space, after a while there really are no differences between the races. They all play differently but still aim for the same stuff because all resources are almost shared. One race might not use food but they still use crystals for upgrades. The research tree is the same for all races and there are stuff that you will feel compelled to research, so the diversity is not really there.

I'll still recommend the game because it's a solid turn based strategy game and a good addition to the Endess series.

Endless Legend is a tbs similar to Civ 5, but instead of culture, research, faith, currency, etc it has the Endless system of Dust, Production, Research, and Influence. There are also plenty of luxury and strategic resources which accumulate over time instead of each node providing a set #. Units are not phased out, but instead they level up and the equipment can be customized and upgraded as your research and resources grow.
