The Vaulters in Endless Space & Endless Legend

Hi all,

Visions of the Unseen (EL) and Chronicles of the Lost (ES) add-ons will be available tomorrow on Steam (automatic update). We'll then post the detailed release notes for each game! Today, we're focusing on the Vaulters who got some nice additions in both games.

Endless Legend is a 4X turn-based fantasy game. The world settings, background story and races are a little relative with Endless Space.

Several awesome feature
+Gorgeous artworks, pictures and animation.
+Wonderful in-game music. And OST included for sure.
+Simple and neat UI design.
+Distinguished races with nice story.
+Interesting and challenging battle system.
+Customizable race and units.
+Mod support.

-No hotkey instruction and no option to customize the hotkey.

Generally speak, Endless Legend is definitely a masterpiece. If you like deep and complex gameplay, thinking and figuring out strategies, managing and expanding, you should try Endless Legend!

It's literally Heroes of Might and Magic mixed with Sid Meier's Civilization.

What more do you want?

Just don't play the tutorial.
It's awful and dosen't explain much.
The UI is simple, but takes getting used too, after a quick warm-up round you'll be good to go if you explore it some.
Hell, you will get a basic idea of what to do if you take a moment and read through the factions triats.

The combat feels uninvolved at first glance, but it's more on how you tell your troops to do things. You can tell them what to do, to the letter if you learn to use the unit tactics, as they tend to do their own thing unless you tell them not too.
I played some multiplayer, and it definetly showed the difference it makes to interact with your troops compared to just telling them who to attack as you can better control the field and force them into narrow areas in the terrain, or into some troops you have on the high ground. In other words, it was a massacre, not a battle.
I'm so sorry to that Broken Lords Player, whoever you were.
Should of accepted the peace treaty, bruh.

Overall, good stuff. I'll play this over Civ anyday.

If you like Civilization-style TBS*, but want more depth and strategy, as well as much more unique races and the option to create your own race, this is the game for you.
I have played Civ:BE, and I honesty regret pre-ordering that game before playing Endless Legend, Civ:BE is nothing compared to this game.

This is a 4X game with some interesting new mechanics, which mostly work well. For me it's basically the Sword of the Stars (1, not 2) of land-based 4X. The things that I enjoy most are the city management system and that you don't have to go wide to win, though there certainly are advantages to rapid expansion. I beat the game on the hardest difficulty with the one-city-only faction.

If I was giving it a score I'd probably say 8. It isn't as polished and well-rounded as Civ V, but I find it to be more fun and interesting.

- Looks much prettier than Beyond Earth.
- Lots of people praise the music. I wouldn't say it's the greatest, but it is solid.
- All the factions are interesting and different. Each has a gimmick, though they don't all suit the playstyles that the developers intended.
- The hero system can be annoying at times, since some heroes are just completely better than others, and it is random chance which ones you'll be given access to (though starting heroes are always the same).
- As with many 4X games, it suffers from the fact that the victory conditions can be pretty meaningless. Literally the fastest way to win a diplomacy victory is to continually break your alliances and reform them each turn. Also, once you start winning, you may as well just kill everyone else immediately rather than waiting to get a science victory or whatever.
- Combat can be very tedious; I recommend increasing the combat animation speed immediately. Also, do not underestimate the importance of initiative in combat. Each unit only gets one attack/counterattack, and the default counterattack overrides all except one of the special attacks.
- You have to work out a lot of the mechanics for yourself. This game does not hold your hand. Reading a guide on city leveling/building is almost mandatory.
- Harder difficulties are legit challenging.
- Quests system is robust enough, but some of them are fairly stupid and/or impossible.
- Strategic and luxury resources all have meaningful differences and advantages.

Some basic info so you can work out if it is the game for you:

Hex-based movement. Out of combat movement is in army stacks with movement of slowest unit, but combat is in a 6-turn battle/encounter where the units split into one-unit-per-tile. This encourages you to build armies which complement each other out of different unit types.

Cities work differently to most other games of the genre. The population is essentially all "specialists", to use the Civ term, where each unit of population can be used to create (base) 4food/4industry/4science/4dust/2influence depending on your priorities that turn. Food, industry, etc. on terrain adjacent to the city is automatically collected, and you can expand the city by building districts in adjacent hexes to increase the area being passively collected from.

The world is divided into regions, and you can only have one city per region. This makes city placement be really important, and leads to important decisions as to city expansion.

Units are upgradeable with equipment. Each faction has three unique base units, and you can assimilate up to three minor factions to get a faction-unique buff and their factions unit. eg. assimilate the Haunts to get 5% to science per Haunt village in your territory, and build "Ended" which are flying ghosts with a chain lightning attack.

Looking for the story elements that Firaxis forgot in Beyond Earth? They're right here. The varied factions lead to tons of replyability. Each faction plays differently. There are some balance issues, but this is well forth playing . Firaxis need to step their game, Amplitude dunked them here.

4X done right!

For the TL;DR Its a great game. Hits so many great titles out there, but adding its own fresh curve balls. I do not regret my purchess. I would recommend this game to anyone. 10/10

This is by far, one of the best 4x I have played in a very long time. If you are a Civ fan you need to give this game some thought. It has everything the civ fans enjoyed over the years, but at the same time also gives new and refreashing ideas. It has the 4X feel to it that we all know and love. So it wont take long to start understanding the way this one plays but at the same time also throws some curve balls your way making you go "whoa, that is awesome"

Scrolling out the map never felt so good. in other games you scroll out. Get an under standing and scroll back in. This, you scroll out and admire everything you have done seeing all that you controlll from a more masters look. Feeling like your on that iron throne and pushing around your wood pieces.

Combat gives a whole new meaning to the 4X genra. Iv played alot of these style games. I love the combat to this, So far this game has dabbled in my childhood more then I thought it would from playing Civ 1-5 and Heros of might and magic.
If your a heros of might and magic fan being able to tell eatch unit who to attack and where to run instead of click, right click. and a fight broke out. You get so much more controll over what eatch unit does. AS well as your hero.

Units, being able to gear up your units with more armor and weapons, rings and necklesses. For how indepth this game goes. Its got me comin back for more and more eatch time.

Heroes. Eatch hero has a skill tree as well as gains xp. Adding new armor, trinkets, weapons. Skill points. Want a badd ♥♥♥ that leads your troops to hell and back, you got it. Want one that sits in your city and just helps run that ♥♥♥♥. You got that to. I love just exactly how much controll i have over what everyone does.

On to that last part over controll. Your citys go a little different in the route of how things are done instead of making workers. plowing feilds building this, and telling them to do this. Instead you have workers, but apart of the city. Want to pop out more gold(in this case Dust) Move one, two or all of the workers over to dust. Need to make this troop faster for that war. Move all your workers over to industry. Some may say that might make it easier but it doesnt just makes it more convenient. Workers are still taken away eatch time you make a settler so there is a downfall to all happy ups.

The other thing that I love about this is the races to choose from, eatch with there own back story and quest line. There own play style. Really throwing more in to the ring. Not only this, its the fantasy theme, if your a fantasy lover, 4X player, and a Heroes of might and magic playing Civ 5 person. Give this game more then just thought, go ahead and put it in that cart. You will not regret it.

Excellent strategy game with true diversity. Many games like this all of the different factions play exactly the same, this one they are all unique. Awseome that you can customize any units gear or all of your units of the same type. I love it, playing it more now since Civ Beyond Earth is such a let down.

One of the most original and innovative 4x games to come out in years. Eight wildly varied factions (each with their own unique, expansive plotlines), a host of really interesting, unique mechanics (only one city per district, no tech tree). Most of the mechanics are very intuitive, but offer some pretty significant depth.

This came out at the same time as Beyond Earth, but it's been much better received, and the reason for that is simple- it has personality. Playing with each of the factions is like starting a different singleplayer game, and the faction creator is very flexible. Like its predecessor, Endless Space, the game also has fantastic, understated art and music.

The only problems are that some of the more advanced faction-specific mechanics are poorly explained, and that the AI can sometimes be poor at defending their cities. Amplitude have patched this, but some more work remains to be done.

Overall, the most fun I've had with a 4x since Alpha Centauri.

Great game, my current go-to 4x. It took me about 14 hours for my first win, and there is still plenty of replay value. Each faction has a story line that can be played out through quests, or totally ignored if you'd rather just play a game of fantasy civ. Orignal lore sets it apart from the usual high fantasy themes, which is really refreshing. A great addition to the 4x genre.

I am baffled as to how this game could reinvent the civilization formula with so much originality that it makes me wish the civilization series would actually learn from this.

Extremely fine art and an absolutely gorgeous map, and lots to do. And I do find it quite hard. I still have to play many many hours but I am enjoying this a lot. All of the races are interesting and it is a first that I'm actually playing everything random.

Constant crashing detracts from overall gameplay which is otherwise quite fun.

If you ever played and enjoyed Civ 4, this game introduces enough new concepts that it should enough to interest you.

Just finished tutorial, this game is good. Overall this game is like civilization game with a new fantasy setting, battle is similar to Heros of Might and Magic.
1. Graphics 8, just normal.
2. Music is awesome, 9!
3. Game play 9, it's fun to play so far, so much to explore, and I think it's better than Civ beyond the earth at this moment. (This will be altered if 2k release other dlcs to complete CIV:BE...)
Overall it's worth buying, another game to waste time on next round.

From the makers of Endless Space comes a stylish fantasy 4x. For anyone who has watched the intro to The Game of Thrones, the art style will be familiar, a quite unique look that I dont recall seeing before,

The gameplay is fairly familiar to anyone who has played a lot of 4x, with a few interesting mechanics to throw in there. Empire planning every few seasons allows you some customisation for your empire, allowing you to focus on say dust production (game resource) or reduction in costs to recruiting units. Strategic resources located within your territory enable you to create armor, weapons and equipment for your troops as well as provide mid to late game bonuses which again provide some nice customisation.

You are able to customise your units to some degree creating 1h shield or 2h for the basic infantry units for example. Further customisation in the material the weapons and armour is made from allow for further bonuses such as stuns and sweepback strikes (aoe).

The only problem I have encountered stability wise is the need to run the client in 32bit as suggested by the company on the forums as it was prone to regular crashing. I have had no problems since doing this altho it will crash on exit every time now, (will update if this is fixed or changes)

Overall I would recommend this as a nice addition to 4x library.

I simply love this game

I got this game a few days ago when I reached all my goals in Civ:BE (win all victory types and at least one on apollo). I am simply amazed. This studio really deserves the praise. The artwort is sooo beautiful. As a webdesigner I can say these are the most beautiful tooltips I have ever seen anywhere. Each one with nice concept art. The handling is also very good. I can´t believe I played a game for 6-8 hours without ever using the keyboard, just my mouse. I also love they didn´t take every single cliché from J.R.R. Tolkien and created something new and completely original such as the cultists. Each combat becomes interesting by using the actual world terrain unlike HoMM where you load into a combat screen. It gives each combat a new strategic variety.

The only thing that turned me off at first was, when I saw some early alpha footage and saw the weird landscape geometry and the ugly fog of war. I thought this is a b-title, a Civ wannabe with no original concept. I was so wrong. I decided to give it a chance anyway and I don´t regret it. I wish the studio will make some money to be able to continue this new IP. Imagine if they had more money to spend on voice actors for the AIs and you get a nice voiced cutscene when you achieve a victory. Some time and money invested in something like a Civilopedia would also be nice. Also more money to spend on advertisement because this is truely a hidden gem more people should know about. This is a must have for every 4X lover.

I've really enjoyed this game. In a lot of ways it's pretty standard 4x fare however, it really differentiates itself the way the different factions play. Whether it's the hyper-aggressive Necrophage or the singular Mega-city-having Cult of the Endless... you get a different play experience. The style of the game is terrific and the game lore is very interesting as well (I'd love to see a pen-and-paper RPG setting for it actually). My only quibble is that combat isn't quite what I wish it was... it's not quite Civ and it's not quite Masters of Magic/Orion tactical combat... it's not BAD but it isn't my favorite thing. Towards the end of my first playthrough I mostly autoresolved battles.

I'll preface by saying that in spite of my negative vote on this one, it's not a bad game. In fact, it's very well executed. The maps are very pretty, I like the unit editor, and also all of the customization options for setting up a new game.

The problem is that pretty much all of the gameplay is nothing I haven't seen before. The tactical combat is pretty much the same as Heroes of Might and Magic, but not as diverse. For example, units don't have very many abilities, and there are also pretty much only 4 types of units, excluding your hero unit. You can hire mercenaries or "assimilate" minor cultures into your own empire, but they will only give you one new type of unit, and you can only assimilate a few minor cultures at a time.

The strategic gameplay is just Civ 5 reskinned. You build cities on a hex grid, choosing placement based on the amount of gold, food, production on the grid (though it is a little different in that you can't just plop down a city anywhere--only one city per "region"). You queue up buildings, units, and research in your cities. You use your units to destroy roaming enemies (i.e. bandits) or attack other cities. You collect various strategic resources which are necessary for research and production. All pretty standard faire.

Again, I think it's done fairly well. My main issue with the game is the lack of a story. There's a sort of blurb for each culture about why they're doing what they're doing, and you can also perform a "main quest"; however, most of the quest objectives don't really have any relevance to any sort of story. I.e. "Go kill this thing" or "build this building" or "Have X amount of gold in your treasury," that sort of thing. Not particularly compelling. The AI is also pretty passive for the most part, and diplomacy has very few options (declare war, close borders, form alliance). The enemy cultures will also have absolutely nothing to do with any sort of story, so I didn't feel any reason to like/dislike them. They were essentially just mindless opponents, my rivals by sheer virtue of the fact that they were on the same map as me.

In the end, I found myself bored after a couple hours. I hate that I got bored, because I spent a fair amount of money on the game--but I just can't see myself being particularly interested in playing it again, or even finishing the game I started.

So that's why I don't recommend it. If you like 4X games just because they're 4X games, this one is pretty decent. But that's about all there is to it. It's a generic fantasy 4X game.

Endless Legend is perhaps one of the greatest X4 games I've played! It offers great unique races that have to be played out in certain manner to be able to uphold steady growth and power. What Amplitude are currently doing for EL is amazing, constant updates with many balancing tweaks, upgrades to the AI and new content overall.

My favorite would happen to be the Broken Lords, they don't require food and a merely just souls and dust bound into armor. Their backstory is very original and doesn't at all seem the heroic and noble cause most games lean for.

Much better than Civ:BE in my opinion, can't wait to see what the game brings in the future. I may have just become an Amplitude fan-boy in a sense. Going to buy Dungeon of the Endless and Endless space soon since I got 50% discount on ES.

AI is weak and can be exploited very easily(imposible, endless)
Game is unbalanced (units: ranged + initiative = win)
This game has a great visual style,
Alot of inovative gameplay features.
So for presentaion for investors maybe it will work, for me it is still in beta.
