Visual C++ 2015 Launch Errors

Since release, some people have been unable to play Starbound due to Visual C++ 2015 runtime failing to install on their PCs. This tends to be an issue with PCs on out-of-date versions of Windows, and tends to be solved by updating your Windows service packs and manually installing the Visual C++ 2015 runtime, but some people have been unable to do this or have found that it hasn't worked for them.

We've statically linked Visual C++ 2015 for the win32 version of Starbound, which should hopefully clear up this issue for a lot of people. You'll need to select 'Launch Starbound - win32' when you launch Starbound on Steam. :)

OpenGL 2.0 Launch Errors

If you're getting an error on launch that says 'OpenGL 2.0 not available', please ensure you've updated your graphics drivers!

OS X 10.8 Launch Errors

If you're unable to launch Starbound on a version of OS X lower than 10.9, please try updating to a more recent version of OS X!

In short, it helps to keep your software up to date! If you find that you've tried everything and Starbound still won't run for you, please email us with no less than a description of the issue you're having, a list of your PC's specs, and a copy of your full Starbound error log (starbound.log in your directory). Here's a post with guidelines for reporting bugs. :)

this is a good game. yes, very great explanation.
movement, although it can sometimes feel a little slippery, are very good, and teh combat is also very good and stuff.
the planets ahve alot to do in them and you wont find a single planet with loot that is not worth grabbing.
the way you progress in the story is great, but at the time you can get to sertant planet types you probably wont have gear good enouch for them, so you will die alot, so I dont recomend survival mode, accept if your in for a extra challange, as in survival mode you need to eat, and you lsoe all your items upon death. what I also do not like is that if you forget to upgarde ot make a sertant crafting station, and youw ant something taht requires that, you need to go throuth multiple hoops to be able to get it, and alot of the time you need to go mining to do it, and although mining is not that boring, it will take a little while.
but the music is AMAZING, and there whas not a single track I disliked
almost every boss is really fun, but they are all really unique
overal, its a great game. but the bosses are truly amazing

Starbound is a game I can very much recommend to anyone looking for a very exploration-oriented, Terraria-like game. Having played it since the Koala updates in the Early Access programme, I'm very pleased with how far it's come. Here's a brief overview of the things that make me like it:

- The setting: it's in space, but some pre-space-age elements remain for many races. It feels like you're alone in space sometimes, whereas other times, you stumble upon something that you can definitely see being called home by many people. There is loneliness and liveliness.

- Exploration is at the core of the game: within the game's universe, there are so many different things out there. It's not just the planet types, it's also the structures, the biomes and the monsters and neutral/friendly NPCs that inhabit them.

- Combat and movement feel responsive. This was once very different.

- The story is good and it makes you progress through the game in a well-paced fashion.

There are some minor complaints that I do still have, though:

- Progression is bound to types of planets, meaning that certain kinds of planets will never be challenging to an endgame player.

- There aren't very many practical light sources in the late game. There is a certain upgrade that I guarantee you'll be using at some point, because there aren't really any good alternatives out there.

These are just some very minor problems, though. The reasons for recommending this game far outweigh those for telling you to just leave it. Buy it if an exploration-focused Terraria-like sounds like your cup of tea.

For all players that liked minecraft when it first came out
Terraria was even better.
For all players that liked terraria.
This game is even better.

The game at the moment im typing this, is still in beta but already has some significant content to offer.
The fact that you own your own space ship that has been said is going to be fully customisable and upgradable like some animal crossing virus, is amazing. I already like my space ship even though it's kind of small.

The storage room of inventories is fine for chest however, the storage don't represent the visual sizes of their sprites.
Also some interface improvements could be made. Over all ... Nothing to complain realy.

There are worlds to visit, just like other sandbox games, however, you can visit almost unlimited planets.
1 map stands for visiting 1 planet. If you walk all the way to one direction you end up at the same location since the worlds are round.

You can visit stars which hold multiple planets to explore, each planet has its own difficulty level

You can visit galaxies which hold almost endless amounts of stars.

Finally you can travel between 5 different galaxies so do the math, how many there is to find!
Also most blocks and enemies are generated differently so there aren't much planets that have the same structure.

While still in beta while writing this review, already an amazingly well-built addictive game with lots of crafting, building, bosses/enemies to fight and planets to explore. Definetly a must have for fans of Terraria. The game controls well, The graphics are nice and colourful, having the pixelated style that everyone knows and loves. The sounds are basic but they do the job. Music is outstanding, and very fitting as well.

Buy it you fool.

With the 1.0 release on the horizon and a wonky update history and lack of communitcation between the developers and the consumers, I am happy to say that all that is behind us and Starbound is a game I can recommend.

Starbound is like Terraria in Space. Don't know Terraria?
Terraria is like Minecraft in 2D. Don't know Minecraft? Yeah right xD

The infinitely generated universe is full of caves to explore, challenge dungeons, NPC's, monsters, quests, loot, materials and useless stuff that you still want cause it's cool to have. As I said, it might had a rocky development sometimes, the devs stuck with it and it has turned out to be a really fun game.

If you like exploration games where you build something from nothing, while getting sweet loot, all while building your own little version of an Enterprise, buy this game now.

If that's not enough, you can download mods that can add anything.

Great game.
