Transistor is a game where you traverse the entirety of the game world accompanied by a sword possessing the soul of a lost lover, narrating the entirety of the game as you traverse through it. You play the role of a girl known as Red who is as of the start of the game a mute, resulting in a lack of responses with her likable friend Transistor, who is fully aware of his helplessness within the sword without his wielder. The game is a mix of beautifully stunning visuals, as well as immaculate music direction, fitting seamlessly into every instance within the game.

Transistor lives within the same vein of Action-RPG's as Bastion and many other titles with an overwhelming reception. With a fresh take on the Turn-Based RPG, as well as intuitive combat, the game is entirely worthwhile to pick up. I would personally rate the game with an 8/10, with a singular glaring flaw being the reasoning behind why I would subtract two points from my overall score. Regardless, the game is entirely worth picking up.

- The game is a mix of very appealing colors, being just the right amount of soft on the eyes, as well as visually drawing and attractive.

- Extremely fascinating take on the Turn-Based RPG elements we all know of, revolving around a meter known as "Turn()", essentially allowing you to do X amounts of Movements, actions, or any combination of the two within its span.

- Extremely fun combo system, resulting from enemies being stunned, or shocked.

- Immaculate sound direction, fitting into any instance or situation flawlessly.

- Extremely likable characters, regardless of the fact the protagonist cannot speak.

- Ever upgrading enemies, acquiring new combat capabilities as you progress through the story, making them dynamically more challenging.

- Incredibly fun weapon upgrade/attachment system, resulting in a variety of odd combinations for attacks with varying abilities granted upon them via upgrades.

-Extremely detailed Sci-fi world where the outcome of situations or things are held by vote, which is then changed by either computer simulation or alteration of realtiy.

- The story is.. Nothing special, in all rights. Whilst the game may be amazing in most other regards, since the games storyline is the sole selling point, it is a bit disappointing that this is the case. It comes down to your stereotypical scenario of people wanted X thing to happen, however X situation turned out bad, so fix it for them whilst trying to uncover the truth about why X thing went badly or their original motives. The storyline is forgivable, however I can't help but feel the ending is extremely lackluster and anticlimactic, having left me with this hole that shall never be filled, as well as this yearning to know more about every character. (This is the entire reason why I am subtracting points overall)

- Artificially imposed playtime extensions. If you want everything within the game unlocked within your first playthrough, well too bad for you because to unlock every passive upgrade or weapon upgrade, you have to play the game through a multitude of extra times.

- No ways to normally attack, instead relying solely upon special abilities that you may not change until you have found what is known as an "Access Point".

- Extremely lackluster bossfights that legitimately devolve into hiding until you have enough energy to use your turn-based action meter to attack and then hide once more, resulting in less than noteworthy altercations within the entirety of the game. Of note, there is a singular boss within the game that actually had any real impact, which is the first boss you encounter.

Overall, besides the glaring problem mentioned above, this game is still extremely fun, and worthwhile to get and play. It has become one of my favorite games due to all of the positive reasonings above, and I plan to play through it in New Game+ several times after I play through some other games that have been waiting for me.

This game was amazingingly linear to me, but the soundtrack was amazing, it was a good play at first, but then got a little dull for me.

Still really really liked the sound track.

This is an absolutely stunning and beautiful game, the soundtrack is very fitting and helps convey the story. The Story is just gorgeous and the combat is very intriguing and relatively complex compared to the more blant combat system Bastion had. This game relies almost only on combat, if you don't like it, you'll have a bad time. But if you like it, you'll probably, like me, come to call this game an artwork. The only caviat this game has, is that the story is only 4-5 hours long, there is a NG+ mode, called 'recursive', but motivation to play it through again may be hard to find, so maybe it would be best to buy this game in sale, even though it is, in my opinion, worth every penny of the roughly 20 Euros it costs normally.

I would give this game an 9/10.

The graphics are very good.
The gameplay is very good, I\'ve been using a PS3 controller for controls.
The sound is pretty good.
The content is pretty good.

I especially love the fact that it uses programming functions, visually, to create your weapon inputs and everything.
The only thing that hinders it a point, and I was going to say 8/10, is I don\'t really get into the storyline. I don\'t feel connected to it. It is kind of just happening. Others might, so I gave it an extra point. Overall this is a great game.

I also like that now-adays games seem to be smaller, so when I thought I beat the game, I ended up going hours longer. So far I have about 8 hours played, and I \"think\" I\'m close to beating it. All in all, great job! I\'d recommend it.

Still unsure what the singing button is for, and the jumping for the sword button. I\'d imagine they are just for looks.

I literally cried when I beat this game.

What can I say about this game that every other review hasn't already?

The combat system is amazing and the storyline is as beautiful as the art style.

I seriously recommend this game to anyone who likes games.

Play this if you love music and art; if you think that videogames are much more than just easy entertainment; if you want another one of those unforgettable experiences in your life. And finally, play this if you thought those thing I've said about Bastion.

I recommend to beat it twice in order to complete all the achievements and unlock all the info of the characters. The story has a clear simbolism and opens a long debate about existentialism. If you are able to see this, then you can give this game a 10/10 because it really deserves it.

And about the soundtrack. Wow. Much more than videogame music if you ask me. Still wondering why this hasn't won a single award yet.

One of the best indie games of all time, and actually the best of 2014.

"See you in the country, Mr. Bike."

An artistic experience more than a game

I know, I know... what the heck does that even mean...

Transistor's strength lies in the way the story unfolds. The plot (and its twists) are excellent, the characters brilliantly designed and the visuals are outstanding (pretty much what we've come to expect from Supergiant games after the much acclaimed Bastion). The combat is clever and good fun... but not ultimately what you keep coming back for.

And therein lies the one downside... the story is a bit short. It's not the fastest game to get into, and by the time you're hooked and going "hey, y'know what... this is getting pretty good" - It's actually drawing to a close. Slight shame, but still 10 very worthwhile hours (There is technically newgame+, but that has less appeal for me)

On the plus-side, at least the enemies also get stronger in NG+, so it's not like Bastion where you replay and just stomp everything flat with super-powered weapons. If you like the combat and challenge, that at least continues to deliver through the second iteration.

The combat itself is refreshingly unique. It's essentially about using Fallout-esque 'planning' time to compile devestating combos - combining strategy to an otherwise innocuous hack-and-slash. Throughout the game you acquire 'functions' which can basically be applied in one of three ways... as a 'move', to provide an added-effect to a move, or to apply a passive bonus. Bear in mind, you can only apply a function once and are limited to how many are in play - so there's a lot of variety to be had. You're encouraged to try out different combos (by unlocking backstory as you do) and the game is thankfully forgiving enough to let you experiment (i.e. there is no single 'correct' combo). It's fun enough but, as mentioned before, only goes so far in keeping the game interesting.

The gem is really the narrator again. Combining authorititive guidance with human touches of humour, emotion and vulnerability; it adds warmth to an otherwise (intentionally) structured, robotic setting. The part where he's spaced out is particularly entertaining (I lost it at "hey... that's not a bike..." and was too busy chuckling to realise I was dangerously low on HP).

If you enjoyed the experience of Bastion (not just the gameplay) - This should be well worth checking out

Excellent in every way. I love the combat system - simple to grasp but with increasing depth and strategy. Beautiful artwork and music as you'd expect from Supergiant. Just an absolute joy to play from beginning to end.

If you enjoyed Bastion, this one hones a similar style with a more strategic approach to the gameplay.
The stories are a bit similar, too. Transistor might be somewhat of a repackage of Bastion.. But not with any small effort. It's like, they took Bastion and carved out most of the guts, ate the bones, too, and then put robots in place.

I enjoyed Bastion, and SuperGiant did an awesome job on the concept of Transistor. The length is just right on a normal difficulty playthrough.

Red, the main protagonist is wonderful to play along with.

Transistor, from the makers of Bastion, both games are among my favorites. Transistor and bastion have many similarities, and many differences. While bastions combat is based on weapons, and a couple upgrades for each weapon, in transistor, there is only one weapon, the transistor. Instead, combat is based around skills (functions) to use with the transistor, as well as being able to augment skills by equipping skills onto skills, and providing passive buffs by equipping skills onto yourself, that combined with the turn() function and a lack of environmental clutter made the combat feel a lot more varied and responsive. Unlike bastion, transistor doesn’t have levels with a hub, but rather has you progressing through a world with occasional visits to the ‘Sandbox’. While in Bastion, pretty much all information is centered on The Kid, in Transistor, everything is surrounding Red, but not really centered on her. The story is delivered in a similar, but different manner. Again, like Bastion, Transistor is not a particularly long game, around 8 hours. However, it’s well worth investing yourself into. P.S. gorgeous soundtrack, with or without hum tracks is subjective, personally I like them with humming, but even if you don’t plan on getting it, give the ost a listen.
