If I had only the graphic effects of Transistor, it would have been enough.
If I had only the combating system, it would have been enough.
If I had only the extrodinary music by Darren Kurb & Ashley, it would have been enough.
If I had only Red, it would have been enough.
But, I have that narrator.

"It's true. You know? It's true"
"I love you."

Transistor is just a beautiful game. Great story-telling with fantastic voice-acting, and really fun gameplay with a very unique combat system. It was a great experience and I might even do a second playthrough. Highly recommend this one! :)

Summer-Rain looks over your shoulder with
a few blinks, expecting an answer, which you
do not give. The screen flashes with shades
of sea green, white and orange, as the title
screen greets the both you.

TRANSISTOR.

Bugging you after she heard a group of her
friends fangirl over the sheer *awesome* of
this particular game, Summer-Rain pestered
you into spending an evening at her house
showing her the game and whether it was
really as good as all her friends said it was.

It is.

Simply put, and as you soon discover with
Summer-Rain gasping with the introduction
of each new enemy type, Transistor is an
effective blend of Diablo's isometric 2.5-D
engine and a profound story which gives
Bioshock Infinite a run for its money.

The mysterious narrator of the game gives
exposition in dulcet tones that makes
Summer-Rain swoon dreamily. Trapped as
a disembodied consciousness after saving
the player character, a starlet known as
'Red', you embark on a quest to recover
Red's stolen voice and bring to justice
those who murdered her boyfriend.

Along the way, the titular sword where
Red's dead number 1 fan and boyfriend,
the Transistor; can be outfitted with
various upgrades, upgrades which are
available as more characters die around
you and more bosses are vanquished.

Summer-Rain holds your arm as you
help Red avoid a gigantic, nanite-based
superweapon-gone-wrong known simply
as 'The Spine', a metaphor and reference
to Transistor's world lore of 'The Spine
of the World'
and one of Red's own solo
numbers, 'The Spine'.

"Don't die." Summer-Rain says, looking
at you with a mix of fear and desperation.
"The story is so good. I want to- I need to
see the end, Starboy."
You nod once.
"Don't worry, Summer. I won't. And
whatever you do... don't let go."

Summer-Rain catches the Transistor's
dialogue reference and smirks slightly
before leaning her head against your
shoulders, and you enter one of the
different stages to battle The Spine
itself. You manage a small smile in
return, both of you feeling just like how
Red and the Transistor feel, together
always, back-to-back against the world.

When all is said and done and the story
ends, both you and Summer-Rain feel
the tears run down both your cheeks.
The world is saved, at terrible cost, but
all that transpired in Transistor made
absolute sense and nothing felt forced
or left-field. Extensive enemy stages
and 'Danger Room'-eque scenarios,
along with varying difficulty levels
and damage multipliers allow for a
healthy amount of replay value.

You look back at Summer-Rain and
see that your mouth is partially agape,
before she smiles sheepishly and closes
your own mouth too. Blinking the tears
away from the touching ending and the
emotional roller-coaster that disguised
itself as a game, you turn off the PC
and have a quick shower before bed,
Summer-Rain joining you.

"You know..." Summer-Rain starts,
clad in nothing but a towel with her hair
wet and shining as she dries you off.
"That was one of the best games I've
ever seen you play."
You turn back to
Summer-Rain, putting your hands on
her hips. "But you didn't play..." You
answer, tugging away at the towel
wrapping Summer-Rain's form.

She smiles her signature smile,
before gesturing you to dim the lights
while undoing her towel. "Sometimes
Starboy... sometimes you're just
content with watching."

TRANSISTOR.
