New sizes and pricing for 3d print in Space Engineers

Space Engineers is a sandbox game about engineering, construction and maintenance of space works. Players build space ships and space stations of various sizes and utilization (civil and military), pilot ships and perform asteroid mining.

Space Engineers utilizes a realistic volumetric-based physics engine: all objects can be assembled, disassembled, damaged and destroyed. The game comes with two game modes: creative and survival.

Volumetric objects are structures composed from block-like modules interlocked in a grid. Volumetric objects behave like real physical objects with mass, inertia and velocity. Individual modules have real volume and storage capacity.

Space Engineers is inspired by reality and by how things work. Think about modern-day NASA technology extrapolated 60 years into the future. Space Engineers strives to follow the laws of physics and doesn't use technologies that wouldn't be feasible in the near future.

Space Engineers concentrates on construction aspects, but can be played as a tactical shooter as well. We expect players to avoid engaging in direct man-to-man combat and instead use their creativity and engineering skills to build war machines and fortifications. Space Engineers shouldn’t be about troops; it should be about the machinery you build.

  • Custom colors for blocks – Customize your creations by using any color you like
  • Cargo ships - auto-piloted vessels (miners, freighters and military) that carry ore, ingots, constructions components and other materials from sector to sector. They can be looted but beware, they often contain booby traps!
  • Environmental hazards – protect your character and your creations from meteor storms (Safe, Normal, Cataclysm, Armageddon)
  • Conveyor, Collector, Connector (IMPORTANT: this is a first work-in-progress version and a realistic version will be added later) - Conveyors move items from inventory to inventory. Collectors can collect small objects (ore, ingots, components, tools) into inventory. Connectors can throw items from inventory to space (in future update could be used to connect two ships/stations and transfer items)
  • Artificial mass – can be used to add gravity-affected mass to ships, useful in machine ships or cars
  • Wheels - use them with rotors and artificial mass to build vehicles
  • Automated turrets – gatling, missile and interior. Turrets are used mostly as defense mechanism rather than shooting other players. They aim on decoys (automatically by default), meteorites, missiles or all moving objects (eg. small/large ships) - targeting can be changed in the control panel
  • Large weapons - missile launcher (for large ships)
  • Large and small ship grinder and welder – assemble and disassemble blocks faster and in larger amount
  • Batteries - enables players to store the energy generated by solar panels or reactors at an efficiency rate of 80%
  • Pistons - offers the option to build more advanced machinery
  • Factions - create and join factions, determine ownership of blocks and manage the relations between them (hostile/ally). NOTE: Factions are currently Work-in-Progress. There are still many things to be added (eg. chat and communication) and some bugs/issues are yet to be fixed.
  • Remote ship control – control ships without being inside the ship’s cockpit (drones)
  • Remote turret control - control turrets directly
  • 3D printing - export (CTRL+E) and 3D print the creations that you design in the game (http://www.SpaceEngineersGame.com/3d-printing.html)
  • Modding API - brings a lot of new possibilities to modders and allows them to alter the game by writing C# scripts which have access to in-game objects
  • Blueprints - save your ship or station on a blueprint and paste it into your game

Minecraft dans l'espace?

À noter que l'expérience décrite est celle faite à partir du produit à l'état "Early Access" et de la version 01.028

Minecraft a ouvert le chemin à plusieurs autant du côté indépendant qu'un intérêt grandissant vers les jeux du style 'sandbox' avec génération progressive et aléatoire. Il serait facile de dire que Space Engineer est tout simplement un tel Minecraft avec l'espace sidéral comme terrain de jeu.

Mais en fait, c'est un jeu qui utilise les lois physiques de Newton, des définitions et mesures plus réaliste que son cousin cubique. Space Engineer est une expérience où l'on peut soit créer librement (en mode créatif) des stations, des vaisseau et autres constructions dans l'espace infini des astronautes de l'an 2077... ou encore d'essayer de survivre avec des ressources limités et le besoin de gérer plusieurs éléments d'un base grandissante.

Autant si votre intérêt est de créer le vaisseau spacial parfait, ce qui est totalement possible de faire en utilisant une interface assez simple mais aussi très efficace, de monter la base la plus épique soit ancrée à un astéroide ou flottant dans le vide sidéral... ou encore de simuler une partie de Starcraft de la manière la plus basique en étant les ingénieurs qui font tout, ou de devenir des pirates spaciaux qui attaques les voyageurs qui passent dans votre secteur, les options sont là pour vous le permettre.

Points important à noter, le jeu fonctionne avec un système de momentum et de physiques réalistes; des objets lourds, propulsés à haute vitesse, risque de faire beaucoup de dégât. Une mauvaise manoeuvre avec un vaisseau massif et un mauvais calcul de ralentissement en approche d'une base peut finir en catastrophe... mais c'est aussi le point fort. Les dégâts sont très réalistes, avec des impacts qui causeront des brèches qui font du sens, qui détruirons des parties importantes de vos vaisseaux les rendant plus difficile à contrôler.

En tant que semi-simulateur de physique et de survie dans l'espace, Space Engineers le réussi assez bien. Mais il faut aussi prendre en compte que le jeu est présentement en développement : ne vous attendez pas à un produit totalement fini (quoiqu'il le sera sûrement éventuellement, passé la date de publication de cette revue). Quelques bugs surviennent mais rien de totalement critique. Au pire, les morts que ces bugs vont produire va sûrement créer quelques moment cocasses.

La courbe d'apprentissage est un peu élevée pour ce qui a attrait à l'interface qui peut parfois confondre les utilisateur mais une fois maîtrisée, elle est assez objective pour faire le travail demandé.

Avec une base solide et des moment de créations majestueuses autant en forme de bases ou encore de répliques de vaisseaux spatiaux, de scénarios de base pour commencer votre aventure et la possibilité d'utiliser les ressources du Workshop de Steam, Space Engineers vaut la peine d'y passer du temps, surtout avec quelques amis.

Si vous aimez la construction et les voyages spaciaux, ce jeu est fait pour vous ! Si vous aimez casser des trucs, ce jeu est aussi fait pour vous !

Niveau construction de véhicules que se soit vaisseaux ou véhicules terrestres, les possibilités sont énormes voir infinis, il y a même de la programmation (surtout pour les moteurs... ou pour ceux qui comme moi aiment créé des armes non-conventionnelles pas toujours très efficaces...), les seules limites seront celles de votre imagination... ou juste celles de votre PC.. La gestion de la gravité et de l'inertie est très réaliste. Les collisions sont elles aussi très réussis.

'Fin bon y a beaucoup trop de chose à dire sur ce jeu, et surtout positif. Le seul point négatif, j'aurais aimé qu'il y ai de l'exploration, comment ? peut être en divisant la map en secteurs accessible par warp, hyper-espace, portes des étoiles ou que sais-je encore, et que certains secteurs soient uniquement composés de sol terrestre avec de la faune et de la flore spécifiques différant selon les planètes, mais ce n'est qu'une alpha, les mises à jours sont régulières, et les petits gars bossant sans relâche derrière le jeu ont l'air motiveux par ce qu'ils font, lorsque le jeu passera en version finale, on aura là un très beau titre.

D'ailleurs j'allais oublié, après une quarantaine d'heures de jeu, je n'ai pas eu trop de soucis de bug, à part une sauvegarde qui a été corrompue.

Un jeu que j'apprécie beaucoup, et que je peux que vous recommander fortement.

I just had an epiphany. Yes I did.

Let me explain.

All games I play I start on the hardest possible settings. I dislike easy mode because bad habits and the real intent of the developers never shines through. (The devs need to make games easy for some people because they're either time-poor or effort-poor and well, their money and wishes are just as important right?)

And this does that. In SE, easy mode doesn't teach you anything. It's a "Lego meet Asteroids" style and some even called it for a "Minecraft" clone as a result. Add building block. Add another block, and another ad infinitum until you have spaceship. For me, it got boring quickly. It's called "creative mode"- just... build.

And then there's survivor mode - on hard. Whoa!! I struggled for the first few hours. With little in the way of documentation and no real clue as to what to do, it took me over an hour to work out how to build a single block from the remains of a craft crashed into an asteroid.

First there's survival. Have I got enough uranium for power? Should I turn on the gravity generator? How can I save energy until I can salvage enough to.... live?

I need to mine. I NEED fuel. I can mine using my included hand drill but it's... messy. Slow. Trite.

So to mine I need a mining ship. To build a mining ship I need components. To make components I need an assembler. To use the assembler I need steel. I need glass. I need energy.

And all I have is a drill. I have a grinder. I have a welder. And in my scenario, I have a ship I can salvage.

Piece by piece with a grinder, all the while careful of my energy limit, my inventory. I need a refinery. The refinery is needed if salvage doesn't give me everything I need so I'll need raw material to convert to ingots, including uranium ore which I convert to processed uranium to fuel the reactor so I can do ALL these things.

Do you see where this is going?

To build my mining ship I need a mining drill. To build the drill I need motors, steel etc. Some of these can be salvaged. Some have to be made. Every component needs to located, transported, linked and welded. EVERY component. You need a plan. A rough sketch on what you intend to build helps alot. It gives you purpose because time is of the essence. if you're not watching and run out of fuel you're.... dead. No energy means no refining of uranium ore to refuel.

It's a grind. And a weld. Yep. Grind and weld. Hour after hour floating in your pressure suit. Maybe you can leave the grav gen on and walk around, expending more of that precious reactor fuel. Who knows. The decisions you make determine what you build and how fast it's going to take.

The flying is... space like. There's 3 dimensions. There's gravity. There's velocity. There's death. There's no attitude indicators, sky markers, "horizon" indicators, compasses or such.

Fly too far, lose your bearings and home.... disappears.

There are no fixed paths or objectives (apart from survive). It's a sandbox. And a multiplayer sandbox at that. Go public, lose it all or go "friends only" and do the hard yards with mates to build the biggest dang skyship ever made. There's missiles, guns, turrets, fire and light. Death. There's explosions, broken platforms, busted ships.

Or there's serenity and wonder as you quietly go about your mining ship construction.

The game caters for everybody from MP gung-ho blast'em players to SP anal-retentives with spreadsheets, CAD and a master plan.

At alpha, a lot of the options are not as intuitive as I'd like. The UI is a bit invasive and some work could be done here. The universe is.... grey. I'm sure some awesome nebulae would fit in great here and add appeal to the wonder of space.

There are glitches, it's alpha as I write, but I've experienced no crashes. It's going to be good thing this Space Engineers and the devs seem happy to include...whatever people damn well please.

7 hours went by in a single session. I'm only half through building my mining ship. I have no objective but to succeed.

My epiphany? What is success in SE?

It's when I finish this ship, I'll mine, refine, transport and assemble another. It'll be bigger. It'll do more. The welding torch will blind my eyes as I drift in and out of the superstructure boundaries, my suit energy draining away.

I'm fascinated.

THIS can only get better...

Très bon jeu Sandbox, communauté Workshop très active, fun avec des potes et online plutot stable. Seul point negatif serait qu'il n'est pas encore très optimisé mais ça viendra avec les mises a jours (qui sont assez fréquente). Il vaut largement son prix.

Top 10 things not to do in Space Engineers.

-Run out of uranium.
-Set missile turrets to "all moving objects".
-Crash.
-Die.
-Chase after random ships before setting a beacon.
-Join a server titled "we kill you in the face"
-Forget to turn on your jet pack when stepping out of your ship.
-Try to build a to-scale death star on an open server.
-Try to park your now completed to-scale death star to close to an asteroid.

Space Engineers a vraiment un gros potentiel! Les développeurs vont-ils l'exploiter? Les premiers avancements laissent à penser que Oui !
-Mode multi maintenant accessible.
-Les outils de constructions sont très pratiques. Et avec le mode symétrie, vous gagnerez un temps considérable!
-Pilotez des vaisseaux de toutes tailles. Les limites sont celles de votre imagination!
-Minez les astéroides, craftez, customisez, construisez stations et vaisseaux spaciaux, défendez, combattez...

Bien que c'est pour le moment qu'un acces anticipé, je sais déjà sùr que je rentabiliserai le jeu surtout avec un prix aussi attractif (14e!).
Alors si le manque d'oxygène et l'espace intersidéral ne vous font pas peur, SPACE ENGINEERS est fait pour vous! :D
