Vad utvecklarna har att säga:

Varför Early Access?

“Mini Metro has been in open development since September 2013. We've had such a positive experience throughout the alpha that we decided to continue development in Early Access.”

Ungefär hur länge kommer det här spelet att vara i Early Access?

“We expect to release the full version in mid 2015.”

Hur är det tänkt att den fulla versionen ska skilja sig från versionen med Early Access?

“We would like to add the following features and content throughout the Early Access period:

  • procedural audio by Disasterpeace
  • the unlockable Rush Hour mode, for the ultimate challenge
  • achievements
  • trading cards

You can see the full list of tasks, including plans for possible post-release features, on our Trello board.”

Hur är det nuvarande läget i versionen med Early Access?

“Both the classic scored game and endless zen mode is fully playable in ten cities, with leaderboards for each.

We'll be adding the remaining functionality and content, tweaking game balance, and fixing bugs (not that we plan on adding any, but ... you know) every week or two.”

Kommer spelet att prissättas annorlunda under och efter Early Access?

“Mini Metro will be available at a reduced price while it remains in Early Access. The base price after release will be $8.99.”

Hur planerar ni att involvera gemenskapen i er utvecklingsprocess?

“We have an active community that we stay in touch with through Twitter, Facebook, and our own discussion forums. The community has already helped us shape the design of Mini Metro through the alpha, and we plan on continuing that through Early Access and post-release.”

Beta 26

Another beta is upon us! Plenty in this release but a lot of it is tidying up around the edges, always a sign that a project is getting near release.

We've added the last of the extreme mode unlocks and added the achievements into Steam.

Trains will now stop to pick up passengers from a station even when another train is stopped there, if there are enough passengers for both trains.

All strings are now in Transifex and the majority of languages are fully translated! We've also changed the font we use for East Asian languages to the much nicer Noto Sans.

A few other tidy ups like the colours in night mode and font spacing on different resolutions.

Audio is getting really close... thanks for being so patient!

Beta 25

More achievements, and more city variation!

We're continuing to add achievements for the extreme mode unlocks. In this build we've added unique goals for Paris, New York City, Hong Kong, and Berlin.

Some of the cities have been altered to change the way the game plays on those maps, sometimes in quite drastic ways. We've been meaning to do this for a long time, but only recently built up the courage to make the broad changes required. The idea is to make each map much more than just a palette swap.

The cities that have been changed are:

  • Paris. Station capacity has shrunk to four, the gap between stations has been reduced, and stations spawn faster.
  • Berlin. Tunnels are even scarcer in Berlin—you only receive one per choice.
  • Osaka. The map has been refocussed and enlarged. Each week you can choose from two locomotives or one high-speed shinkansen. Shinkansen can be useful if you get them running on long, uninterrupted lines.
  • São Paulo. Stations are rarer, but passengers appear faster.
  • Saint Petersburg. All special stations now appear on the islands in the Neva.

Om detta spel

In Mini Metro, you take on the task of designing the subway layout for a rapidly expanding city. Your city starts with three stations. Draw routes between these stations to connect them with subway lines. Commuters travel along your lines to get around the city as fast as they can. Each station can only hold a handful of waiting commuters so your subway network will need to be well-designed to avoid delays.

The city is growing. More stations are opening, and commuters are appearing faster. The demands on your network are ever-increasing. You'll be constantly redesigning your lines to maximise efficiency. The new assets you earn every week will help immensely — as long as they're used wisely.

Eventually your network will fail. Stations will open too quickly. Commuters will crowd the platforms. How long the city keeps moving is up to you.

Key Features

  • Compelling, constructive, hectic, relaxed gameplay. If that makes sense. It doesn't though, aye? You just gotta play it.
  • Three game modes: Commuter for quick scored games, Scenic for stress-free sandbox play, and Rush Hour for the ultimate challenge.
  • Ten real-world cities to design subways for (London, New York City, Paris, Hong Kong, Osaka, Saint Petersburg, Montreal, São Paulo, Cairo, and Auckland). Each has a unique colour theme, set of obstacles, and pace.
  • Random city growth, so each game plays out differently. A strategy that proved successful last game may not help you in the next.
  • Each game's map is a work of art, built by you in the classic abstract subway style of Harry Beck. If you think it's a keeper, save it, tweet it, show it off or make it your desktop background!
  • Soundtrack by Disasterpeace (well, not quite yet ... but he's working on it right now!)
  • Colorblind and night modes.
  • Trains! Did we mention them yet?

You can check out Mini Metro for yourself and play a game on the London map in the demo. The demo uses the Unity webplayer, so you'll need the Unity plugin (Windows and OS X only unfortunately).

Mini Metro is a simplistic strategy game where you must design train lines connecting different parts of one of many major cities. You begin with three lines, three trains and some tunnels (number of tunnels depends on the city) and each week you unlock a new train to use as well as one of two other things such as a new line, more tunnels and carriages to attach to your existing trains. As time goes by new stations will open and you'll need to connect them to existing lines or create entirely new lines, managing your lines effectively is key as the game ends when a station is overcrowded for too long.

+Simple but fitting art style, it looks just like London Underground maps and I can't think of anything that would suit this game better
+The controls are nice and simple, all you have to do is drag your mouse from one station to the next in order to connect them
+Already quite a few different cities to try out
+It's incredibly relaxing to play
+If the default game is too bright for you (if you have sensitive eyes like myself you may find this) then you can turn on Night Time mode which makes everything considerably darker
+The UI is very basic and stays out of your way most of the time which really adds to the feeling that you're looking at a real map
+There's a number of different types/shapes of stations, having to connect one of each type to each line to move passengers effectively adds a nice level of challenge to the game
+As well as the normal gamemode which I briefly explained earlier there is also an endless mode where station overcrowding does not end the game and your only goal is to make your city as effecient as possible
+Station positions are different every time you play
+As is expected of such a game you can fast forward time as well as pause (pausing is very handy if you want to completely redesign all of your lines)

-At the time of writing this review there's no sound effects or music in the game which is a little odd though the developer is currently working on sound, this will be removed as soon as that update comes out
-No way to save your progress on a city, if you have to leave the game for some reason you lose all your progress

A Masterpiece in the Making (9/10)

A simplistic strategy game that has a great concept, a fitting art style, simple controls, simple gameplay and is ever so relaxing to play. If you're looking for a simple strategy game to play or you're a regular user of the trains in one of the playable cities then you really need this game.

I didn't know it was possible for a game to be relaxing and stressful at the same time, but this game seems to accomplish that (although you can easily take out the stress element by playing on endless mode, if that's your thing). Thanks to this, I now understand why subway maps are so convoluted.

In short, this game is a combination of some of the best core elements in all train-management-style games in a beautiful, minimalistic style. Seriously, the animations and visual design of this are just AMAZING. Well done. Although I'm hoping audio gets added soon, because the sounds in the trailer made the game seem even better.

Highly reccommended to anyone who likes any sort of strategy or planning game.

I saw this game on the summer flash sale, and it looked interesting, so I scooped it up. Boy am I glad I did! This is a fantasic, little, indie, strategy game where you are managing a subway station. Your job is to lay down subway lines to connect the different stations and get the different shapes (people) to their desired destinations. It starts off slow and progressivley keeps adding more and more, so you really have to think about where to place the lanes to be the most efficient. It's super easy to learn, but will take some time to master, and it's absurdly addicting.

This is an early access game but complely 100% playable. There is no music/audio yet, but that will come out soon. They use a very minimalistic art syle, which adds to it's clean look and makes it easy to understand, however, a few things might need to be clarified. Hopefully they will add a small description for the different items you have to choose from between weeks. There are a few I'm not completly understanding what they do or how they work.

The beginning tutorial is very simple, although they do not show you how to move tracks or divert them. I kinda found that out by accident, so hopefully they will expand on a few of these things.

I also hope they make it possible to save some of your games/city tracks you have made in a future update.

Overall this is an awesome little game, that is well executed, and 100% worth the full asking price. 10/10

(+) Very simplistic & modern; easy to learn and nice to look at
(+) Easy to play even with a trackpad on a laptop
(+) Stations are randomly generated, so even though there's a limited amount of maps it never really becomes repetitive
(+) Great game to play at work
(=) No sound yet (but coming soon!), even so doesn't really suffer from not having sound
(=) Changing/deleting tracks can be awkward, not sure if it's me missing a game mechanic or if it's an actual issue (maybe clearer tutorials for editing tracks?)
(-) The circle stations can kiss my cute ♥♥♥

Mini Metro is a great buy even at full price. Be warned though: it may look like a stress reliever, but it definitely is not!
