Update 01.048 - Modding API, Reloadable missile launcher for small ships

The Modding API has been implemented into Space Engineers. It brings a lot of new possibilities to our modders and it allows them to alter the game by writing C# scripts which have access to in-game objects! Reloadable missile launcher for small ships is also added - with the option to use the conveyor system. Additionally, we have included the Fighter Cockpit model that was created by the modder “Darth Biomech”. This is the first modded model that makes it into the official version of the game.

Update 01.047 - Remote ship control, Timer block

9月11日

The remote ship control system has been implemented. Players are now able to build drone ships and control them without being inside the ship’s cockpit. Moreover, the timer block has been added, which allows players to trigger a queued action after a set period of time. Additionally, gravity and sensor field view are also available and sensors can detect stations/platforms.

Space Engineers is a sandbox game about engineering, construction and maintenance of space works. Players build space ships and space stations of various sizes and utilization (civil and military), pilot ships and perform asteroid mining.

Space Engineers utilizes a realistic volumetric-based physics engine: all objects can be assembled, disassembled, damaged and destroyed. The game comes with two game modes: creative and survival.

Volumetric objects are structures composed from block-like modules interlocked in a grid. Volumetric objects behave like real physical objects with mass, inertia and velocity. Individual modules have real volume and storage capacity.

Space Engineers is inspired by reality and by how things work. Think about modern-day NASA technology extrapolated 60 years into the future. Space Engineers strives to follow the laws of physics and doesn't use technologies that wouldn't be feasible in the near future.

Space Engineers concentrates on construction aspects, but can be played as a tactical shooter as well. We expect players to avoid engaging in direct man-to-man combat and instead use their creativity and engineering skills to build war machines and fortifications. Space Engineers shouldn’t be about troops; it should be about the machinery you build.

    - Two Platforms – competitive two-team multi-player world
    - Asteroids – start in a rescue ship with very limited resources
    - Empty World – no asteroids, no ships; suitable for creative mode
  • Dedicated servers - allow players to connect to a third party host, rather than using a player-host, in a peer-to-peer set-up. The result is a faster connection and a more fluent multiplayer performance with less lag

  • Magnetic landing gears – attach your ship to a surface (another ship or asteroid)
  • Electricity - all blocks in a grid are wired in an electrical and computer network; electricity is generated by nuclear reactors
  • Gravity – produced by gravity generators. Spherical gravity generator also available.
  • Rotors – create rotating objects
  • Refinery - process harvested ore to ingots
  • Assembler - manufacture components from ingots
  • Symmetry/Mirroring Mode - useful in creative mode when building structures that require symmetry
  • Weapons - automatic rifle, small and large explosive warheads, small ship gatling gun, small ship missile launcher
  • Solar panels - produce energy depending on the amount of light that they catch from the sun
  • World management – generate new worlds, “save as” to multiple copies, auto-save every 5 minutes (can be turned on/off), edit world settings
  • 32-bit & 64-bit - 64-bit version expands the amount of objects, ships and asteroids (almost unlimited)
  • Steam Workshop - Share your creations with the Community (upload and download worlds)
  • Modding - world files, shaders, textures, 3D models
  • Localized interface (WIP) - Czech, Danish, Dutch, German, Icelandic, Polish, Spanish-Spain, Spanish-Latin America, Finnish, French, Hungarian, Italian, Portuguese-Brazil, Estonian, Norwegian, Swedish, Slovak, Ukrainian, Russian
  • Custom colors for blocks – Customize your creations by using any color you like
  • Cargo ships - auto-piloted vessels (miners, freighters and military) that carry ore, ingots, constructions components and other materials from sector to sector. They can be looted but beware, they often contain booby traps!
  • Environmental hazards – protect your character and your creations from meteor storms (Safe, Normal, Cataclysm, Armageddon)
  • Conveyor, Collector, Connector (IMPORTANT: this is a first work-in-progress version and a realistic version will be added later) - Conveyors move items from inventory to inventory. Collectors can collect small objects (ore, ingots, components, tools) into inventory. Connectors can throw items from inventory to space (in future update could be used to connect two ships/stations and transfer items)
  • Artificial mass – can be used to add gravity-affected mass to ships, useful in machine ships or cars
  • Wheels - use them with rotors and artificial mass to build vehicles
  • Automated turrets – gatling, missile and interior. Turrets are used mostly as defense mechanism rather than shooting other players. They aim on decoys (automatically by default), meteorites, missiles or all moving objects (eg. small/large ships) - targeting can be changed in the control panel
  • Large weapons - missile launcher (for large ships)
  • Large and small ship grinder and welder – assemble and disassemble blocks faster and in larger amount
  • Batteries - enables players to store the energy generated by solar panels or reactors at an efficiency rate of 80%
  • Pistons - offers the option to build more advanced machinery
  • Factions - create and join factions, determine ownership of blocks and manage the relations between them (hostile/ally). NOTE: Factions are currently Work-in-Progress. There are still many things to be added (eg. chat and communication) and some bugs/issues are yet to be fixed.
  • Remote ship control – control ships without being inside the ship’s cockpit (drones)

The performance depends on the complexity of your world and the configuration of your computer. Simple worlds run smoothly even on low-end computers, but a more complex world with rich object interactions could overload even high-end computers.

太空工程师,如其名,这游戏玩的就是“工程”,一点都没跑题。当初打了66折,而且原价还是15刀的时候入了个,时候觉得太爽了。一周一更,而且几乎每次更新都加新内容的游戏,就算现在你花20刀买,依旧很值。
这游戏的重点不在探索,周围都是一堆小行星,没什么好玩的。好玩的地方在于你要手工打造一架飞船,还可以拿来开,造完后可以捋着胡子说:“嗯,这架船加速到100只需要3秒,就是转向太迟钝了,装甲耗费太多材料,武器太多以至于后坐力会让船体翻滚,性价比不高。”俨然一个武器设计大师。
然而这游戏有一个巨大的不足,就是创造模式和生存模式的反差太大。如果跟mc比较的话,在mc的生存模式里挖一个方块,放到另一个地方,搭一座大点的房子都不成问题。然而在SE里,你要放置一个有功能的方块,你就需要准备好几种材料,一个材料又需要好几种矿,挖来的矿石还需要花时间煅烧。建造一个方块需要焊几秒钟,这还能忍受。但是制造材料、煅烧和挖掘都要花费很多时间,这复杂度可是呈指数上涨的。于是在SE的生存模式里,你要是想撸一个有基本功能的小矿船,就得耗费一下午的时间(只有一个熔炉和一个制造机的开局)。你要是想在生存模式造超巨型大吨位战舰什么的,你要做好在0工业基础下忍受好几十小时的无聊劳作,生存模式可没有复制粘贴、镜像模式。一切都是一个方块一个方块垒,中间要是拆了某个唯一的方块,让飞船断了,这感觉让人只想去死。

简言之,这游戏可以让你切身体会你的幸福生活是建立在高水平的工业基础之上的。因为现在的SE就好像是你已经进入了信息时代,但是制造飞船本身却是停留在纯手工业阶段。
当然,现在没有不代表以后不会出个自动将你的飞船设计自动生产出飞船的量产装置。只要你有原材料,只要坐等一会,就可以看着机械臂按你的飞船设计蓝图搭一个真的出来,像种马生马仔一样。

I just had an epiphany. Yes I did.

Let me explain.

All games I play I start on the hardest possible settings. I dislike easy mode because bad habits and the real intent of the developers never shines through. (The devs need to make games easy for some people because they're either time-poor or effort-poor and well, their money and wishes are just as important right?)

And this does that. In SE, easy mode doesn't teach you anything. It's a "Lego meet Asteroids" style and some even called it for a "Minecraft" clone as a result. Add building block. Add another block, and another ad infinitum until you have spaceship. For me, it got boring quickly. It's called "creative mode"- just... build.

And then there's survivor mode - on hard. Whoa!! I struggled for the first few hours. With little in the way of documentation and no real clue as to what to do, it took me over an hour to work out how to build a single block from the remains of a craft crashed into an asteroid.

First there's survival. Have I got enough uranium for power? Should I turn on the gravity generator? How can I save energy until I can salvage enough to.... live?

I need to mine. I NEED fuel. I can mine using my included hand drill but it's... messy. Slow. Trite.

So to mine I need a mining ship. To build a mining ship I need components. To make components I need an assembler. To use the assembler I need steel. I need glass. I need energy.

And all I have is a drill. I have a grinder. I have a welder. And in my scenario, I have a ship I can salvage.

Piece by piece with a grinder, all the while careful of my energy limit, my inventory. I need a refinery. The refinery is needed if salvage doesn't give me everything I need so I'll need raw material to convert to ingots, including uranium ore which I convert to processed uranium to fuel the reactor so I can do ALL these things.

Do you see where this is going?

To build my mining ship I need a mining drill. To build the drill I need motors, steel etc. Some of these can be salvaged. Some have to be made. Every component needs to located, transported, linked and welded. EVERY component. You need a plan. A rough sketch on what you intend to build helps alot. It gives you purpose because time is of the essence. if you're not watching and run out of fuel you're.... dead. No energy means no refining of uranium ore to refuel.

It's a grind. And a weld. Yep. Grind and weld. Hour after hour floating in your pressure suit. Maybe you can leave the grav gen on and walk around, expending more of that precious reactor fuel. Who knows. The decisions you make determine what you build and how fast it's going to take.

The flying is... space like. There's 3 dimensions. There's gravity. There's velocity. There's death. There's no attitude indicators, sky markers, "horizon" indicators, compasses or such.

Fly too far, lose your bearings and home.... disappears.

There are no fixed paths or objectives (apart from survive). It's a sandbox. And a multiplayer sandbox at that. Go public, lose it all or go "friends only" and do the hard yards with mates to build the biggest dang skyship ever made. There's missiles, guns, turrets, fire and light. Death. There's explosions, broken platforms, busted ships.

Or there's serenity and wonder as you quietly go about your mining ship construction.

The game caters for everybody from MP gung-ho blast'em players to SP anal-retentives with spreadsheets, CAD and a master plan.

At alpha, a lot of the options are not as intuitive as I'd like. The UI is a bit invasive and some work could be done here. The universe is.... grey. I'm sure some awesome nebulae would fit in great here and add appeal to the wonder of space.

There are glitches, it's alpha as I write, but I've experienced no crashes. It's going to be good thing this Space Engineers and the devs seem happy to include...whatever people damn well please.

7 hours went by in a single session. I'm only half through building my mining ship. I have no objective but to succeed.

My epiphany? What is success in SE?

It's when I finish this ship, I'll mine, refine, transport and assemble another. It'll be bigger. It'll do more. The welding torch will blind my eyes as I drift in and out of the superstructure boundaries, my suit energy draining away.

I'm fascinated.

THIS can only get better...

太空版Minecraft。虽然没有宏大的世界观设定和丰富的游戏元素,但是作为沙盒游戏,它的可玩性还是很高的。搜集资源,建造自己的空间站、飞船,在荒无人烟的小行星群中生存,欢乐抢船,多人是非常有意思的 目前已经有创造模式 生存模式了很有意思,何况是测试版本以后还有望添加更多元素。太空工程师这一款游戏还是很不错的。

目前这个游戏给我的感觉就是太空版的"Minecraft",比起MC,它制作的飞船是能开的,不过相对的,没有MC那生存类的物品制造,更多就是如其名一样的与太空相关的物品创造,很好很科学

新增加的生存模式和多人模式,我来简单测评一下

"生存模式"就目前来看,其实就是需要收集素材和制作的创造模式,在太空之间并没有什么生存威胁,可以老老实实玩,但是很快会腻,因为这类收集制作很费时间,而且又是干着相同繁琐的事情,这个官方以后肯定会再改的,比如增加自动工作的机器人之类...这个大可放心继续等更新

多人模式,说起多人,我和基友联机了好几次,这个游戏各种优化都是非常不错的,但是联机优化就目前来看很烂...什么网络都好,除了建房的房主之外,其他玩家很容易卡,而且掉包,一个不留意就掉出好远的太空之中了...希望以后能完善

创意工坊,神一般的存在,我会买这个游戏很大因素是因为有这个...太给力了...就算你不喜欢创造,你完全可以去下载别人的创意来玩,很好很棒

现在来看这游戏涨价了,当初打折的时候入很划算,Space Engineers,我只能说是一个好游戏,适合长期
