Update 01.078 - Main Cockpit, Button Panel hints

Players now have the option to choose the Main Cockpit. This cockpit will be used for controlling their ship or station. The other cockpits will only be used for controlling turrets and other blocks, but not for controlling the ship itself. We also added hints for the Button Panels – this will make the use of the button panels more convenient by showing hints before clicking on each button. Lastly, there is a “Report a Bug” button available on the Main Menu – this is an easier way for the players to report the bugs that they find in the game.

Om detta spel

Space Engineers is a sandbox game about engineering, construction and maintenance of space works. Players build space ships and space stations of various sizes and utilization (civil and military), pilot ships and perform asteroid mining.

Space Engineers utilizes a realistic volumetric-based physics engine: all objects can be assembled, disassembled, damaged and destroyed. The game comes with two game modes: creative and survival.

Volumetric objects are structures composed from block-like modules interlocked in a grid. Volumetric objects behave like real physical objects with mass, inertia and velocity. Individual modules have real volume and storage capacity.

Space Engineers is inspired by reality and by how things work. Think about modern-day NASA technology extrapolated 60 years into the future. Space Engineers strives to follow the laws of physics and doesn't use technologies that wouldn't be feasible in the near future.

Space Engineers concentrates on construction aspects, but can be played as a tactical shooter as well. We expect players to avoid engaging in direct man-to-man combat and instead use their creativity and engineering skills to build war machines and fortifications. Space Engineers shouldn’t be about troops; it should be about the machinery you build.

Early Access

  • Game modes
    - Creative – unlimited resources, instant building, no death
    - Survival – realistic management of resources and inventory capacity; manual building; death and respawn
  • Single-player – you are the sole space engineer

  • Conveyor, Collector, Connector (IMPORTANT: this is a first work-in-progress version and a realistic version will be added later) - Conveyors move items from inventory to inventory. Collectors can collect small objects (ore, ingots, components, tools) into inventory. Connectors can throw items from inventory to space (in future update could be used to connect two ships/stations and transfer items)
  • Artificial mass – can be used to add gravity-affected mass to ships, useful in machine ships or cars
  • Wheels - use them with rotors and artificial mass to build vehicles
  • Automated turrets – gatling, missile and interior. Turrets are used mostly as defense mechanism rather than shooting other players. They aim on decoys (automatically by default), meteorites, missiles or all moving objects (eg. small/large ships) - targeting can be changed in the control panel

Performance Notes

Space Engineers is in development and undergoing frequent optimizations. The performance will get better.

The performance depends on the complexity of your world and the configuration of your computer. Simple worlds run smoothly even on low-end computers, but a more complex world with rich object interactions could overload even high-end computers.

Please read our performance advices:

Minimum requirements represent the bare minimum to run simple scenes and don’t guarantee a perfect experience.

Amazing game. Here are pros and cons:
1. Great mechanics
2. Physics are amazing
3. Truly envolves engineering in almost everything you do, making the title fit excelent with the game.
4. Update every thursday with new features and bug fixes.
5. Adding mods is easy, and are on the workshop.
6. Worlds, blueprints, scripts, and mods on the workshop.
7. Decent graphics.
8. Easy multiplayer setup.
9. Almost an endless amount of designs you can make. Like for real, if you can think it through, you can build it.

1. Does require a good processor, otherwise you'll lag with REALLY REALLY large ships, otherwise you'll be fine.
2. Survival only has ships that spawn that you can raid, not actual npc astronauts.
3. The occasional bugs and glitches, but there are barely any.

More pros than cons to a 3/1 ratio. One of the best sandbox games out there. Better, a little cheaper, a lot more freedom and creativity than minecraft BY FAR. 20/10.

If you can think it, you can build it. If you can build it, you can rebuild it to be better. The only limit to this game is your imagination (and your PC). Right now it is in Alpha and there are a few kinks that the devs are still working on. Some are major, to be fair. However, they are adament about fixing problems and they clearly have a game plan that they are working with. I'll be honest, I've been frustrated at times with the lack of optimisation at the current build, which does affect playability, as it very clearly says that it will in the Early Access banner above. This doesn't mean that it's a game to be passed up though, to say the very least. The game is in development, and the devs show no signs of slowing down or halting progress on their game.

The developer involvement in the community is top notch, absolutely excellent. As many other reviewers have stated, Keen Software House is definitely setting the bar for how Early Access games on Steam should be done. Just the other day I posted a bug on their forums, and one of the devs by the name of "Phand" got back to me in 10 minutes. He had me send him my world that I experienced the bug in and forwarded the situation along the appropriate channels. Even if it isn't fixed in this next update, I'm not going to be here complaining because I know it will be as soon as they figure it out.

But, the devs not only communicate well with the community, they also expand on ideas and are working to make the game better than anyone could have imagined it being six months ago when I first got the game. It has absolutely evolved past what it was at that point and is well worth the asking price. I have bought several copies of this game for friends and have met many excellent builders in the game.

The UI is a little invasive at times, especially when building something from the inside. But, there are mods for that and I have little doubt that it's not something that the developer has on the to-do list. Speaking of which, if you want something that isn't in the game, you can almost always find a mod for it. The modding community is very talented and there are many coding experts that have developed tools for the game that are available to you for free.

And, if you yourself are a coder, check out the programmable block! There is literally a block in the game that you can use C# to program scripts into to execute actions for you on your ship/ station. Not your thing? Or don't know how? Not to worry! You can use scripts from the workshop to make your creation come to life before your very eyes!

While the game is no doubt a lot to take in and can be daunting at first glance, the workshop also has examples of ships you can build, and YouTube is littered with in-depth tutorials to get you up to speed. Not to mention the countless guides from the community that explain everything to you in text, if you prefer that to a video.

All in all, it's a dream come true for someone like myself who spent a lot of time as a kid building Lego space ships. I can't wait for the game to progress further, and it's a very safe bet that it will be the best game of its kind.

I have Spent a very good portion of my life game, and I dont see myself stopping anytime soon.

The game sets you in a deep space environment, with the ability to set and infinite world, full of randomly generated objects, and asteroids. Your job is to survive. You have your hand tools, and whatever is in your spawnship. Mine to get ore, refine the ore in a refinery to receive ingots, then assemble the ingots with an assembler to get materials, use the materails to build stuff with your welder. The stuff you build is up to you. You can build a station, a mining ship, a utillity ship, or a Military ship. How big can you build the ships? As big and as intricate as your computer will handle.

It just doesn't get boring, because the devs release an update every Thursday. With the addition that they acctually listen to the community. So when an update comes along, its exactally what you wanted or better (about 70% of the time). The steam workshop plugin fills in the other 30% by having custom mods and blocks. Mods can be easily placed in your game with and in-game GUI made just for the steam workshop, so no file surfing. All-in-all it is one of my best buys on steam, Im sure it will be one of yours as well.

Buy the game.

Early Access Review

Space Engineers is a game about building, and surviving. From afar you could say this game is similar to the popular indie title, Minecraft. However upon a closer, more detailed inspection, the titles only share two similarities. They are, of course, custom construction and an open world environment in which to build or explore.
Space Engineers is everything a child born in the early 80's and late 90's could want, jam packed into an ever evolving and ever changing environment. If you've ever seen one of the more popular Sci-Fi space series/movies, you'll understand right away. Most sandbox construction games, like Minecraft, have simplistic dynamics and challenges. However, in a game like Space Engineers, one could easily find themselves in a very serious predicament. Rather than having to worry about food and shelter, the player instead must worry about energy reserves, materials and resources, and (as of the latest update: 1.076) oxygen reserves.
Now, on the outside these are very simple things. However, anything can happen. As with Murphy's Law, which finds itself very deeply rooted in this game, if it can happen, it will. Case in point, you could be inside your sealed up station building a ship in your hanger. Your helmet is off, you're breathing the oxygen in your hangar, happily building away on your newest ship. Your buddy was just out mining and has just returned home. He doesn't know you are in the hangar (which is pressurized, hence why your helmet is off), he opens the door to bring his ship in to dock. This depressurizes the entire hangar and now you are inside, suffocating to death because your friend has just vented all the precious oxygen into space by accident. This emphasizes safety precautions and other means by which the player can ensure that accidents, don't happen.. well, at least not as much.
The only enemies you have are yourself, and other players. However, there is a simple form of hostile in the game. These are NPC ships which, for the most part, wont bother you at all. Unless you try to board them and steal their resources. Then the only thing to stop you are the exterior turrets and well... the ship itself if you happen to be flying too fast towards it. Hostile AI Engineers have yet to be introduced into the game, but many players (myself included) are looking forward to some form of AI, be it hostile or friendly.
The game has two game modes, Creative Mode, and Survival Mode. Creative mode is good for people who prefer to build things rather than worry about materials and their survival. Creative mode, is just that, infinite resources and all the reason in the world to build whatever you want. However it goes beyond that in Space Engineers. Your options are not just limited to building ships and stations. You can build asteroids as well. Space Engineers uses a Voxel based generation system for their asteroids and the destruction physics, which we will get to later on. The Voxel system has made it possible for players to edit asteroids to the point of custom space rocks that look like Vin Diesel. But it doesn't just have to end there, this system allows players unlimited creativity, even to the point of changing the very material that the asteroid is made of. You can choose between every resource that is available in the game! However, at current, Voxel editing is only available in Creative Mode.
Now on to one of the most prominent features in the game, destruction. Everything in the game is capable of being destroyed, warped, borked, bent, and misshapen. If you build a ship and fly it into a rock, chances are you will destroy your ship, if not, your going to be in for a world of hurt when your mechanic sends you the repair bill. This destruction system opens up entire worlds of possibilities for the way the game is played.
Remember earlier when I mentioned exterior turrets? Well, there you have it, weapons. Ranging from a hand held assault rifle to ship mounted rocket launchers. You can have manual systems like gatling guns and rocket pods, or automatic systems, like gatling turrets and rocket turrets. Each have their advantages and disadvantages. Each can be utilized in its own way and the customization options for these weapons allow for nearly infinite possibilities when it comes to combat.
This game has it all, and with Keen Software House (KSH) putting out an update every Thursday, there's no end to what it contains or what will change. If you like construction games, open world exploration, strategic challenging survival scenarios, or just like space. This is the game for you. Currently it is only available on PC in early access from Steam, or directly from KSH's website. However, console gamers need not fret. Keen is keen to get it released on console sometime in the not so near future.

S.E. is a lovely space sim with remarkably good physics, gravity, and block deformation. Great with friends. A rich & thriving mod community have made some brilliant contributions that really improve vanilla gameplay. The fact that Keen releases weekly content updates every Thursday shows commitment to a delightful early access game.

Space engineers is an amazing game. With constant updates, great modding community and active servers all around it doesn't just dump you in the world and let you fend for youself. Playing the game does, however, plant you in the middle of nowhere and you have to figure stuff out. That is great. Multiplayer suvival is fun, with multiple ways of making your ways around the universe. Creative, of which I've only played SP, is awesome. The amount of things you can build and design, even without mods, is amazing. It does fit into the same catergory as Rust, that being the "I'm an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with a bigger gun than you" but it takes longer and is harder to achieve getting some serious fire power and every fight leaves you with something to do, like repairing damaged hulls or reloading rocket launchers. 9/10

I love this game. Plain and simple. It isnt overly complex, and is relatively easy to master. This game is one of my favorite (if not my favorite game of all time). I get that there are bugs, but its early access. Keen Software House is trying there hardest to try to update the game as much as they can. They add new stuff and fix older bugs almost weekly. It has come a long way since its origins from alpha, and is so much fun. Thanks Keen!

Space? yes.
Building? yes.
Spaceships? Absolutly.

this game is so fun, its taken up a majority of my time. With it being an early access game, it def. has its issues here and there, and i hope they fix the issues that happen in multiplayer, but overall its a wonderful game. every thursday i'm excited to see what new things they'll add to the game, and every day i check the workshop for new and exciting mods, because that just makes the game 10x better.

I also love the fact that you need to find materials, break them down, and craft them into parts that you need to build the blocks. It still runs on Direct x9(at the time of this writing) and i'm stoked for the Direct x11 update, or x12 if its out by then. i've only had this game for about a month, and i've already spent 261.8 (at the time of this writing) on it. (I know i dont have a life) but its super fun! even with all the multiplayer quirks, like occasionally low sim speed(which has to be fixed by server admin by cleaning up junk) its still a ton of fun to build with others.

This isnt just a Minecraft in Space. Its a whole other thing. Its complexity is simple enough to learn, and designing new ships is a blast!
I'm stoked for full release, even if it never comes!
As long as its constantly updated with new features, and better system handling, I'll play this game for a long time.

I bought this game around a year ago and I was very disapointed, It wasn't that fun and I felt as it was a waste. I just decided to redownload to try it again to see if it has gotten better and it definitly has. I spent a good amount of time learning how to play just by myself because screw guides. It's extremely fun to just to fly around space or build random things. I'd reccomend this to anyone now, It's quickly becoming one of my favorite games.

This game is simply amazing. You mine materials and build stuff. Stations, big ships, and little ships, with a wide offering of combat and non-combat capabilities. Unlike many other games, Space Engineers does not force you into combat if you don't want it to.

So if you love building stuff and love sci-fi, Space Engineers is probably for you.
