V173: Camera, Ingame Squad Creation and much more!



It took a bit longer than expected but v173 is now finally live. It introduces a new camera system which improves the image stability reducing Z-fighting and other shadow artifacts. Furthermore squad creation ingame is now possible and should help with balancing the games. These are just some highlights, for the full changelog please see:

We are also trying out to switch our project to Unity5 beta which brings a lot of cool new stuff. It will improve physics performance and has the possibility for PBR which really should boost graphics. If the beta is stable enough we will build with it. Check out the Unity 5 features preview:

Armistice Update



A day after the 96th anniversary of the end of the war on the 11th of November 1918, we launch another update. It's a big one as we bunched up quite some tweaks and improvements.

Most noticeable is the inclusion of Manual bolting as an option. Based on community feedback we decided that it would very fitting to include as a preference for the more realism focused players.

Secondly the spawn code received a big overhaul. We wanted players to go over the top together as a team so we introduced several measures to make sure people spawn together better and more efficient. Also it is now rewarding to advance as a squad NCO as you will earn points for spawning fellow squadmates near or in the enemy trenchlines. In addition you will be in formed when squadmembers are able spawn near you.

Another badly needed feature was the inclusion of the stamina bar and stance indicator (bottom right corner) which will make the spurts across nomansland more user friendly.

We also made the first steps of improving the prone, jump en deploy mechanics. These are heavily work in progress and we invite you to join us in polishing these, there will be small hotfixes in the the coming days to address the issues that may have arisen.

  • New: manual bolting as an option
  • New: stamina bar display (bottom right)
  • New: stance display (bottom right)
  • New: in-game quit button will now ask for confirmation
  • New: you can no longer switch to the different side if it's outnumbering the other side +3 players
  • New: "over the top"-spawning. Players are now massed together before attacking
  • New: "over the top"-spawning for defensive squads as well, 10 seconds (was 5 always)
  • New: Successfully spawning a squad member in or near the enemy sectors will you points. (0 - 15 xp depending on the distance)
  • New: Spawn protection, now 2 seconds
  • New: At the start of the round, defenders spawn inside of the defending sector
  • Tweaked: spawning attacker waves time slightly increased (3 seconds) to create more volume

Verdun is a squad-based multiplayer FPS set in First World War (WW1) . The game is inspired by the infamous battle of Verdun in 1916.

The game includes historically accurate features such as realistic WW1 weaponry, historical maps based on sectors of the Western Front and authentic uniforms and equipment. The game immerses you into one of the bloodiest conflicts fought in Europe.

The merciless trench warfare offers a unique battlefield for tactical squad play in the gritty Frontlines game mode, and raw pure gameplay in the rifle Deathmatch.

The Frontlines game mode is unique in its tactical complexity, where you are levelling different types of squads, each with your own tactics and roles. The realistic trenches are an extra challenge in the fight, where teamwork and tactical cunning are essential for success. Drive your enemies from their trenches and dominate the Western Front!


Verdun key features include:
Unique World War 1 gameplay: Authentic weaponry, characters levelling and realistic historical battlefields set in France and Belgium
Tactical squad-based FPS: Squad assembling and levelling
True trench warfare: Real-time dynamic frontline; momentum-based attack and counter-attack gameplay
WW1 atmosphere: Typical WW1 music, art, units, grim battlefields and an immersive user interface
Challenging game modes: Dynamic Frontline and rifle Deathmatch
Chemical weaponry: Tactical gas deployment and immersive gas mask experience



The team has done extensive research in the field at Verdun and has been advised by knowledgeable historians to make sure Verdun is historically accurate. Uniforms have been recreated to the tiniest details, weapons modeled to exact references and maps created from real-life elements.


Teamplay is what lies at the heart of Verdun. You fight for either the Entente or the Central Powers. Within each side up to 4 players can form 1 of the different squad types available to that side. These squads each have a specific tactic, and are based on real historical units of that time. Depending on your squad’s type, players can choose a specific role within the squad, complete with the historical attire, weapons and abilities. The more experience (XP) you and your squad mates earn together, the more powerful your squad will become..



A true WW1 experience has been captured by the historically accurate battlefields, divided into multiple sectors that can be captured by either side. The real-time dynamic frontline shows every captured or lost meter by your side. Staying true to the warfare of that time, both sides attack and counter-attack each other in turn, where you will be forced to defend each captured each sector of trenches.

很棒的游戏, 一战题材的FPS游戏实在是太少了,气氛很足.地图略大 眼神不好可能很难在乱七八糟的战场上几百米左右的地方发现敌人,DM模式玩起来很爽, 不过延迟实在是有些撑不住

垃圾游戏,优化差地一逼。老子电脑玩丧尸围城3都不卡玩着1.2G的破游戏卡的况且网速还是8M的。我对这个1战的游戏还是很兴趣的,玩了才知道坑爹,白花老子149块钱!!!!兵种都不知道怎么切换,拿个小手枪被一群基佬轮暴,到现在才杀了1个人,想想看是体验的也就算了,等后续吧。

Gas comes in and obscures everything around you. You're nearly blind, choking to death, gasping for air. You manage to get your mask on in time to save yourself, then out of the mist.......a shadow.

I recommend this game only if you ACTUALLY enjoy tactical shooters. This game makes RO2 look like COD:MW. It's like that.
The game in general as well as the classes seem really well thought out, historical settings and detail seem paramount here. Not for the faint at heart or casual FPS player.

World War 1. 2 Words + 1 Digit. 2+1 = 3. Take the V in Verdun and turn it upside-down. Add a line to close the V and create a triangle. We now have a Triangle, and the 3 from the previous equation confirms it. World War 1 went from 1914 to 1918. 1918-1914 = 4. 4-3 = 1. 1 Eye in an Illuminati. Confirmed.

First of all: congratulations to the devs!
Secondly, I've seen this game grow day by day... It really is awesome to see it now the way it is, even if it isn't finished yet.
It's a great game, really fun to play and quite easy to get in to.
Graphics are good and the gameplay is being upgraded frequently.
I seriously recommend this game to y'all!

Have fun, but remember to keep your head low and your bayonets fixed :)

By now, I can safely say this is one of the best WW1 first-person shooters I have ever played; and continues to improve day on day. Through little over a year, the game has come on leaps and bounds with the addition of various new factions including the Tommies and Canadians, as well as the German assasult Strosstrupen squad. Various additions to the game are also in the works including a new melee system, and other, highly anticipated map releases. Although this game is not finished - with it being in Early Access - through having slight bugs or glitches, I can safely say this game is going to be a huge success with the steam community, and if you are thinking of buying the game, know you are going to jump right in with a dedicated and reassuring community fighting it out in the muddy depths of World War one. 9/10.

I was very fortunant to get this game! Verdun is a WW1 history buff's wet dream as long as they love online multiplayer, a great community that is full of philosophical history buffs and awesome trolls, and first person shooters. It updates from time to time like minecraft. You fight on 5 maps so far; can play as the French, Germans, Canadians, and British. It is mainly a squad based game that requires the strategy and cooperation of your teammates ranging up to games that can maximize to 32 people per server. It requires a lot of patience because it is a long paced game since it tries and succeeds in creating a WW1 atmosphere. You can unlock different weapons as you level up your different squad classes. I argue however, that the squad-class rank-ups are too easy now; you can now rank up all 4 tires in one match if you do well enough while as before it used to take way longer which balanced out the game and formed as a prestiege mode for your progression. Other than that, it is a great game, definantly one of my top-favorites especially out of my steam library. Just know that back then there were mostly bolt-action rifles without scopes, so don't expect so many mobile machine guns in this game. Have fun and enjoy it, the game's price increases the more it updates so hurry up and get it while you still can!

So this my old review This game is clearly not at a ready standard. As someone who likes to play Red Orchestra 2 this game was a disappointment it does ahve postives and i feel that it will become worth my money once they add more stuff but at its current state don't buy it. If you are looking for an intense realistic shooter do not get this get Red Orchestra 2.

Lots has changed since your review. I would appreciate it if you'd check out the game again and let me know if we're going the right direction :)

But I feel its not time to make another after playing a bit more. Even though I have not played an awful lot of time there is a clear improvement beofre I would given it a 3/10 but now i would say 6/10 I can happily say in the future this game will 8/10 for me game still feels a bit clunky but looks beautiful and does feel much better to play I will wait a couple more updates to play but it is starting to be worth cost. Keep up the good work.
