Action packed roguelike-like or whatever you want to call 'em.
Really good actually!
This game tends to use randomization to the point where every playthrough feels really different and still under your control.
There are several characters that, while they all share the same randomized skill tree each run, all posses unique active and passive abilites that make them play all different.
The skills you can choose on level up all feel significant, each one does a very specific thing that modifies the way you play.
There's a lot of wepons. There's a helluva lot of weapons from the simple to the practical to the weird to the cool to the please game dont drop me anymore screwdrivers.
The levels are separated into areas a la spelunky, with each area having specific enemies and a different way in which the map layout is generated.
The replayability is huge and the gameplay is really, really hectic. I love it.
There's also a ton of secret stuff and interesting endgame mechanics and whatnot.
The devs' been more than proactive when it comes to updates, community interaction and balance patches and bug fixes.
The game chooses to tell its story entirely through mechanics and environmental storytelling. A truly unique story about fugitive mercenaries in a post apocalyptic era. Oh yeah, and a witty loading screen that more or less becomes a character on its own.
The game looks gorgeous, that's if you don't mind pixel art, which I kinda love.
It looks incredible cute for its the theme. Sort of reminds of how Isaac plays the cute to balance the horribly morbid topic of the game out, but this one is in a totally different direction.
Regarding Early Access, the game is playable as it is right now and quite enjoyable. The main problems are the bugs that occasionaly come along, but the developers deliver new patches weekly that usually take care of any big problem that might happen.
The gamepad support is also currently really poor, same with multiplayer. Hopefully those issues will be fixed and dealed with approaching release. If you intend to use a gamepad to play the game, I'd wait a little longer. Even longer if you don't have an xbox controller, which is the one currently officially supported.
Still though, truly, one of the best Early Access games around.
