O que os desenvolvedores têm a dizer:

Por que acesso antecipado?

“Nuclear Throne was originally created during MOJAM 2013 as a tiny, two day prototype called 'Wasteland Kings'. We never stopped adding little things to the game, even as we moved on to other projects. We had livestreamed development during MOJAM, and decided to continue doing that while we worked on a full version of the game.”

Por quanto tempo aproximadamente este jogo estará em acesso antecipado?

“The game will be in Early Access until it is done, at which point it'll launch on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Until that point, we release weekly updates (each weekend) and livestream every Tuesday and Thursday frmo 1PM CET to 5PM CET on”

Como a versão completa será diferente da versão de acesso antecipado?

“Nuclear Throne will feature seven full worlds of procedural action, four main bosses, tons of secrets, more than 75 weapons, 10 mutants, dozens of powerful mutations and local multiplayer.”

Qual é o estado atual da versão de acesso antecipado?

“The game is fully stable and playable, and has new additions made to it every weekend.”

O preço do jogo será alterado após o fim do acesso antecipado?

“If you want to wait until the game is done, it'll be available for $11,99 after development is complete. We're not doing any sales or bundles until the game is out of Early Access - we want people that really care about the game to buy and play it now. If you're curious as to how a game like this evolves or grows, now is the time to jump in.”

Como vocês planejam envolver a comunidade durante o processo de desenvolvimento?

“We livestream development every Tuesday and Thursday from 1PM CET to 5PM CET, are very active in our forums and upload a new build every single weekend.”

Update #95 - Shiny Throne - November 17th

It's been a while, and we apologize for that. There was no way we were going to finish this update in a week, so instead we took our time and tackled some long-overdue isues. This update is going to be a rough one, so strap in. We're really getting close to wrapping up, and port of that was rewriting a lot of code from the ground up. We've redone most of the leaderboard, rendering and collision code, changed to a new way of creating the executables that'll perform better on low-to-mid-end computers, and we've added a ton of features.

We've also, very likely, broken the game in dozens of ways. Over the past few weeks, we've worked with many of you in our community to fix as many bugs as possible, but it's time to throw the build out there and get numbers instead of focused feedback.

With this update comes a bunch of new stuff. You can now set your keyboard controls in the options menu (since you've all got a save game, you might want to delete that or bind every control to something), we've added a 'stream key' functionality that is a work-in-progress, and we've finally integrated achievements.

Please, please, please let us know if you run into any problems. We specifically need crash logs and other hanging bugs, but anything you see that looks odd compared to Nuclear Throne as you know it is welcome.

  • Audio balancing! We've worked on all the volumes for every sound, to make the game sound way more clear and crisp and powerful!

Wow, feels good to write one of these again. Update 96 won't hit on a weekend either, very likely, as we're going to process your feedback as we continue to fix bugs, balance and work out our final worries about the game.

Thank you so, so much for your patience and feedback. You're all the best community we could've wished for.

Note: Update 95 has been delayed

As you all might've noticed, update 95 has been delayed. We apologize for that. We really tried, but at this point most of the team is tired from that enormous sprint we did from update 92-95, and needs a little bit of time in recovery mode.

Normally, one of us would pick that up, and work on the game alone for a few days, but that's not really possible anymore. We've reached a point where most of the things we're creating are balancing, polish, and this week mostly integrations into the Steam ecosystem (which some of you noticed) - which just takes a bit more time than we'd want, and is not not something you can just release half-working because we're working with someone else's code.

We're aware of some bugs that prevent the ending from triggering, and we hope you know that if we saw a possibility to fix that now, we would've done so already. The code that is in this build is too structural to put out half-finished.

It seems an update is a few days out at least, so we might delay #95 or even decide to skip, and give us time to get everything proper hopefully before next weekend.

Sorry <3

In its current stage of early access, this game in a word is "tight".

Dubbed as an action roguelike, Nuclear Throne is a twitchy top-down bullet hell shooter with over 100 weapons and a multitude of different characters, abilities and modifiers in the form of "mutations". Throw in an insane difficulty level, procedural level generation and a vast array of secrets and you have a title that will have you putting yourself into its mercy time and time again.

The way the levels are generated assures that the weapons, upgrades and enemies the game throws at you will always feel fresh. It also forces you to adapt to a large number of possible scenarios, most of which require pretty fast reactions to survive. The learning curve is steep, hitpoints are low, enemies are relentless and you can expect to have your ego crushed a lot, but if it's something that you are comfortable to see through then progress becomes just that little bit more rewarding. Oh, and say goodbye to immunity frames.

Visually the game is very neat, with a pixel-proud charm that doesn't come at the cost of slowing down the action. Music is well done and the sound effects / enemy sounds are all great. All the characters now also have their own unique voices (by some notable names in the VG voice-over scene) which really adds to the overall feel.

Performance-wise there have been no problems, runs well and no bugs encountered so far despite being in early access. Both controller and mouse + keyboard layouts are supported, and the game is always going to respond to your inputs immediately. Very important for a game with a pace this high.

Recommended if you're a fan of roguelikes or twitchy shooters as a whole, or if you're just looking for something to remind you what the word "challenge" really means. Not recommended if the thought of replacing any part of your PC after an incident of rage is a turnoff.

YES. I just love the game. The game runs smoothly even on my trash computer, and gameplay is exciting and never lets up. There's something for eveyone. Daily and weekly runs allow for competive play, and for the casuals, doing a bunch of regular runs is really fun. I guess my only complaint is that there's not really any difficulty curve for the noobier players. The only way to get better is to practice. Sure, you could unlock new characters, but the characters are pretty much balanced (and that's a good thing), and not one is so much better than the others that you're never gonna play the other ones again. Perhaps adding unlockable guns would be a good way to help the noobier players along (like me). But that's just my opinion. I'm not a game designer, so I wouldn't know about the techinical aspects of the power curve and other things that come along with adding new characters and features.

Anyway, Great game. Buy it. Now. And then play it.
(not really much point in buying it if you don't play it)

Nuclear Throne is a very well made roguelite twin-stick shooter that incredibly fun and satisfying to play that I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys roguelikes.

There are six different categories of guns; Bullet, Shell, Arrow, Laser, Explosive and Melee. Each one of them feels different and unique so there will be a preferred weapon type for everyone. The gunplay in the game is very well done, all the weapons feel like they have a weight to them and it is fun to mix different weapons to find the perfect combination. The randomized nature of the game means that players will get to experiment and experience all the weapons. Furthermore, it’s very satisfying to learn the how the weapons work and master the controls of the variety weapons.

There are a variety of character which have unique abilities such as rolling and shields and player also levels up their character through the run which will unlock new attributes, leading to some unique builds that will adjust how the player will play the game, meaning every run is unique. There is also daily challenges which will spawn a new run every day and you can replay the same map for a day and try to place on the leaderboard, rather than a randomized level each time, creating a variety of game modes.

Every stage in the game feels unique with new enemies introduced that you learn the patterns. The game has elements of Shmup games with a large amount of bullets flying towards you and can get overwhelming but it’s very satisfying find a path through the enemies and beat the level.

Even though the game can be very challenging, the difficulty curve is not too steep so that it doesn't become too hard for players too quickly, the player is always in a space where it is possible to fight out of any challenge.

The sound design and graphics both build a very unique atmosphere, the music often matches the settings perfectly and is very invigorating when fighting the enemies. The pixel graphics are very detailed and unique that gives the game great charm and character that is wonderful to look at, all the enemies are instantly recognizable and interesting to fight.

This is also a paragon of early access games. The devs have made over 90 weekly updates to the game that add new features such as weapons, characters, as well as adjust and rebalance gameplay. They listen to the community; they deserve some respect for their commitment to the game in a landscape of exploitive developers who want to release buggy, broken games to get a quick buck, such as DayZ and countless other scams.

Nuclear Throne started out a great game and has only gotten better over time as more things get added to the game, as it soon approaches its full release, it sets a standard for early access games on Steam and it is a shame that this level of dedication to a game isn’t seen very often. Overall, definitely worth picking up to support good developers and a great game, looking forward to the final release coming up soon!
