A0.9 Weather Update

As we get closer to the release of A0.9, more and more systems are coming together. Here, we show you several new things going on in the game. The weather system has been updated to dramatically improve it's efficiency and effects, rain will no longer fall through buildings and there are more ambient colors around to give a much more consistant look (it's sped up in the vid). We've also updated the grass system so that grass will sway when things go through them, the wind will no longer be in set waves and instead will be random. The water shader has also been updated so that things walking through water will create waves. All of these together will make for a much richer world experience, and best of all, they're very efficient, so the framerate won't be affected much.

We're mostly done with all the game systems that we set out to rewrite, we're waiting for animations to come back from some of our sourcing partners as well as our own inhouse animators (we're trying to do about 2200 new animations) to tweak these systems (such as player, battle, ai, ui). Another problem we've encountered is that the physics in Unity 5 is very different from Unity 4, so we're having to spend more time than we'd like on tweaking some of it (wheel, AI collision, aircraft). But overall, we're pretty close to finishing out a0.9 (yay!).

A0.9 Update: Unity 5.0

Hey all, we’ve been moving the entire Planet Explorers project over to Unity 5.0 over the last couple of weeks. There are still some physics and shader related bugs that we’re going over, but, the overall results are pretty nice. 64bits, HDR, better physics, here we come!

In Planet Explorers, it is the year 2287, one of the first colony ships sent out by Earth arrives at the planet Maria, in the Epsilon Indi Star System. During its landing sequence, something appears in front of the massive ship that causes it to lose control and crash into the planet. Some of the colonists survive in lifeboats, but what they find is an unforgiving land filled with creatures ready to outlast the visitors from Earth. Now the survivors must explorer, gather, build, create, fight, and ultimately, build a new home.

Game Modes

Planet Explorers will feature single and multiplayer modes.

In single player there are 3 distinct selections

  • Story Mode – Story mode is the main meat and bones of the game, it is the action-adventure-rpg-somewhat-4X segment, offering npcs, missions, colony building, farming, ranching, training, diplomacy, and of course, a storyline that you can follow or ignore. This story features a 17X8km world map with many unique character, landscapes, biomes, locations, and over 100 types of potential enemies. Even though we’ve made it seem like a very action oriented game in the trailers, in reality, players can choose to not fight so much as to just plant a farm, make some food, keep the colonists alive, negotiate with the sentient aliens, and defend the perimeter from the local life forms. That can still eventually arrive at the ending. And yes, there is an ending.

  • Adventure Mode – This mode is based on a procedural map generated from a seed. Currently, it comes in a 40X40 kilometer map. Players will be able to complete random missions, defeat bosses, and explore different landscapes in the mode and eventually be able to setup conditions that they want to play (such as tower defense or attack an alien camp). This mode will also feature survival gameplay. The randomization in this mode will eventually pull in player made objects and locations so that a world will always feature something new and unique.

  • Build Mode – In this mode, there are no enemies and an infinite amount of building material. It also currently comes in a 40X40km map. Players will be able to build whatever they want in this mode, including everything in the Creations Editor. Think of this as the perfect testing ground to test everything you build. Or…it’s your place to build your garden without ever worrying about the pesky aliens.

Multiplayer allows Local Area Network and player hosted servers. It features several modes but some are still on the drawing board or going through technical trials so the final result is still in flux. Players playing multiplayer should be able to bring at least one of their created objects into multiplayer games, be it a sword, gun, or vehicle.

  • Coop – Coop comes in many selections, such as adventure mode, tower defense mode, build mode, etc. This is pretty much an open world sandbox with a max of 32 players (this number still needs to be stress tested).

  • Versus – This mode allows teams of up to 16 players to battle against 16 players from another team. We allow full terrain manipulation in this mode. Currently, it's a point based system where one team wins if they reach a certain point level based on kills, built objects, resources mined, etc.

Sûrement l'une des Alphas les plus prometteuses du moment pour encourager la créativité des joueurs, non content de proposer un contenu MMORPG riche bien que classique, le jeu nous laisse créer armes, véhicules et équipements de A à Z via un moteur d'architecture 3D très pointu. L'aspect cartoon est sympathique et l'univers varié promet de longues heures d'exploration. Le tout soupoudré d'une dimension survie bienvenue, d'un terrain qui s'adapte au fil des actions du joueur et d'un craft plus que riche. Possibilité de partager ses créations qui vont du petit poignard en or, au tank pyramidale en passant par le loft gigantesque. Tout y est. On attend la suite avec impatience!

Minecraft in space with NPCs, quests and enemy AI. Loads of fun, seriously.

The ISO (mini-mod) system where players can build custom guns, vehicles, aircraft, swords, etc. gets a little buggy, but it's really cool.

Bought a second copy so my sons and I could play multiplayer on our own world.

Looking forward to further development from Pathea!

10/10 - Would airstrike alien villages again.

You can see i am playing this game for quiet some time now; why do i have so many hours into the game? it's because i am working on cars and ships in the ISO editor most of the time, then go into build or story mode (where i mined enough items and build a colony that works pretty well) and test those creations. At the moment PE is a great construction platform where you can test your creations inside the game environment.

That said i am missing alot of tools to be able to make better shapes then you can create right now, or only in very difficult and complicated/timeconsuming ways. While i have alot of time and patience myself, i can see why many players don't really try to make nice looking creations, but only stuff 'to get the job done'. Physics are off too in the game, so that makes it even more complicated, for example leveling a ship so it doesn't tilt, or a car getting stuck on every little bump in-world ect. pp.
I get more to the physics later on.

The Storymode is fun, because it shows you the mechanics of the game, and introduces you to the basics (and more). At first it can be a little bit confusing when you start in the ship over the planet, but with a little patience you can overcome that.

I didn't play multiplayer very long, because it crashed all the time with memory overflow errors. guess i bought it at a time where they just updated the game from 0.86 to 0.87 and a major bug or bugs kept the game crashing for me. I don't want to get too much into detail what it was, but they fixed that pretty fast in 0.871 so it was playable again. That said, you will run out of memory in adventure mode fast when you travel around alot because the game is still 32-bit, which means that you only have about 3 GB of memory for the game, which is not enough for a long playtime, specially when traveling around alot. (The Textures don't seem to be updated, they just get added until you crash when you run out of memory space.) I can play story mode in nearly best quality for a long time before things go wrong though.

The developers are working on a version they call 0.9 which has 64-bit and the new Unity 5 engine, which hopefully solves that memory problem.

Gameplay: (i am talking about story mode now, because that is what i usually play:)

Although it is alot of fun to play the story, you can see and feel that there is still a lot of work to be done to get the game into more then an alpha stage. i don't really need perfect combat animations, ( they promise to change the combat in 0.9, we'll see), but the world, as pretty as it looks at first glance, becomes pretty uninteresting after a couple hours of gameplay. it just lacks a certain... detail here and there. I think i can explain that to myself reading from others that it's a small team programming the game. How much more detail there will be later on nobody can predict at this point. I also have to put in the fact that the game came out 2 years ago, but they are still working on it, so i see that actually as a positive aspect, keeping a small team in mind.

However, there are huge differences in graphics quality that i cannot explain: The animals look GREAT, i mean GREAT GREAT... the area around them for now is more like average compared to them. The animations could be better, but for my taste are more then good enough to make them feel very much alive. The plants, trees and so on on the other hand don't move at all, they are like statues, and if you hit a smaller tree with your ride, it gets damaged and that small tree doesnt move at all getting hit by a 50 t 4x4 tank ;-) .
Physics are still lacking here big time, and that is only one example of the physics not really working right atm. I hope they fixe those things later on.
The currency in story mode is 'meat', which is... something getting used to. I suggested 'protein' for a supplement, and i got a response they consider it. We'll see :-) (this is another indicator they take your input seriously)

From what i hear they use cash or credit for multiplayer, which is something people just are more accustomed to in games... why just not keep it that way? I never played a game before that uses 2 different currencys in different game modes, and it just complicates things...
I understand they want to make the story mode more like a survival game mode, but just using a currency that sort of suggests that isn't enough imho. Don't make currency you can eat... no other food at home? just eat some dollar bills! :-)

That gets me to the fact that i never really feel it being a struggle to survive. At all. You must be pretty dumb or very unlucky to die in story mode. (Running into animals you don't know if they attack or not for example... You can avoid those animals quiet easily.) You cannot starve to death, you just run out of stamina and you get slower. That's it. You cannot dehydrate, you don't need to drink. For me those are basics for a survival game, aren't they?

I don't really see that myself as a big disatvantage, because i like to play in easy mode(s), so it's more of a relaxed gameplay rather then hectic fighting. Getting old.... ;-) But i am sure it will bother other people. Games like "7 days to die" do a better job on that: you take damage if you run out of food and/or water plus you run out of stamina while using tools, even more so when you are out of food.
talking about 7 days:

On the flipside i don't like those zombies in 7 days (again personal preference), i would prefer dangerous animals that prey on you and that you cannot avoid as easily as in Planet Explorers. But that's another game and another story. I just hope that someday they make a game where the good parts of both games will come together the way i like to play a survival game... :-)

back to PE:

Spoiler alert: The whole mode shows you how to build a colony at some point, and you can build a monorail later on, which keeps you busy for a while. But survival? Not really at this point. The colony system with planing / harvesting food seems unbalanced and not really needed at all atm, because you cannot die of starvation, you just run out of stamina, and you get slower, that's it. I have a pretty fast computer (i7 3.5 ghz with GTX 770 Nvidia), and my colony is down to about 25 - 30 frames now because of the farming simulation, That really shows it needs alot of optimisation.

I would prefer they start optimizing things (balancing, physics better framerates) and make the planet look more alive then filing on combat moves. But that is just a personal preference...

I got this game for 50% only a little while ago for 12,50 dollars. (daily deal), otherwise i would have waited longer to buy it. I am happy i got it, i enjoy it alot, even with the shortcomings it still has right now, and as you could see i use it mostly to create stuff. Love that part to death. For 24.99 dollars it's still a good value if you enjoy the story part, which takes you about 20-25 hours to finish (rough guess, depends on many things how long you need for it), and i played that one 2 times alone, because you have the freedom to do it in many ways. Use your imagination.

Oh and one important tip: finish the missions one by one, that keeps you out of trouble with bugs. I don't want to go into detail because of spoiler alert and too long of a story :-)

I am a big minecraft fan but was looking for something with a more "modern" touch and a more modern look instead of all squares..

I have been looking for a few years and nothing has ever come even close to a good "sustitute" for minecraft.
Then i came across Planet explorers!!

This game is absolutely awesome. Not only can you build and sculpt your environment to your likings, you can design and build your own weapons, modes of transport (air, water and land) and armor.... The only limit you have is your own imagination!
You can decide to keep your creations (iso's) for yourself, or share them with others on multiple sites (and there are already 100's if not 1000's of creations out there)!

This game offers all the freedom you want!
It looks awesome!! Beautiful scenery! All worlds have different biomes with different recourses!

When you first start this game and go in build mode things can become a bit overwhelming because of all the materials, options etc... So i personally reccomend to play the story mode first as this also functions as a tutorial, and you will get all the functions in due time step by step. And storyline ain't half that bad :D

I only have 30ish hours so far in this game, but i am definately falling in love with this game and would reccommend it to everybody that is looking for a fresh, original, modern voxel based game!
No its not minecraft, and impossible to compare it with minecraft, but damn its good!!

Devs, Keep up the amazing work and as for the community, please do the same :D

I played the Story mode twice and will again when there's another patch, or sooner if I can't wait. The Adventure mode is ok, but it lags out so bad it's unplayable if I walk too far away from the starting point. I have the graphics maxed in Story mode with no lag anywhere unless I have a large base or large garden (the lag only occurs when I'm near the base / garden). Adventure mode lags out with all the graphics turned down and no base and no garden. I believe it's just an Alfa issue. If you grab this game, play Story mode. It's extremely fun, has a good story and it's not too buggy at all.

GREAT Prospects with this game!

A friend and I just started playing this and in seeing the potential, I can't wait to see the finished product! It will be what a sandbox should be.

The fact that YOU can create what YOU want and not what a Dev gives you is stupendous, you don't have to see the same vehicle on every player or the same airship or house.

I hope they fully flush out the mmo portions so that we are able to play together, as of right now we are enjoying the Storymode(seperately) portion of the game as a learning tool. But would be excellent to play with friends without having to set up a private server which seems a bit complicated and resourse heavy.

Definately worth the Alpha phase of testing and enduring some bugs

Disons-le tout de suite: ce jeu n'est pas fini. C'est le problème des versions alpha.

Pour le décrire brièvement: c'est un sandbox en voxel, c'est à dire de type Minecraft mais sans le côté gros cubes.
On débarque sur une planète et on doit survivre/s'installer, seul ou en multijoueur. On peut jouer en "Aventure" (inventaire des découvertes complet) ou en "Histoire" (il faut trouver les "recettes" de craft une par une et suivre les missions)

Les qualités du jeu:
-Il est très beau. Les paysages sont magnifiques, de jour comme de nuit. Ça fait partie de ces jeux où on s'arrête parfois pour regarder autour de soi un moment.
-Le mode création (surtout pour les véhicules) est très riche. Il y a une interface 3D *relativement* intuitive pour créer les designs de ses propres armes/véhicules.
-Il y a beaucoup d'objets inutiles de déco qui ajoutent vraiment un truc, on peut décider très librement du look de sa baraque.
-Le côté farming/mining a été conservé à des proportions correctes: on ne passe pas comme dans Minecraft son temps sous terre à extraire des matières premières. Là, deux trois coups de pioche et zou, on peut faire un mur.
-Les animaux sont beaux. le design est vraiment bien vu, il y a des oiseaux, des poissons, des gros animaux terrestres plus ou moins pacifiques et des petites teignes, le danger varie entre la nuit et le jour, il y a un vrai danger à s'approcher des villages aliens...

Les défauts. Comme je disais, ils sont encore très nombreux, c'est de l'Alpha qui tache. Le plus gros étant les bugs. (Je ne vais pas m'y attarder plus que ça, j'imagine que ce sera réparé vite. Mais là par exemple ma partie "40 heures de jeu" a planté et la sauvegarde ne marche plus, ça fait un peu mal aux seins.) Parlons des défauts intrinsèques au jeu:
-Les biomes sont encore peu variés. On s'émerveille de tomber sur un désert. Puis sur une forêt. Puis sur une plaine. Puis... Ha non, puis plus rien, ça y est on a fait le tour. Ça manque de régions polaires glacées, de steppes arrides, de canyons, de jungles, de forêts dense... Ça manque de "petit coin hyper dur à trouver mais qui arrive si tu cherches longtemps", quoi.
-C'est vite répétitif dans "les méchants" aussi. Une fois qu'on a buté un robot géant et un vaisseau alien, on a un peu fait le tour (surtout en solo). Il faudrait vraiment une difficulté croissante (genre des bestioles qui arrivent à un certain niveau d'expérience, des grandes villes aliens qu'on ne peut prendre d'assaut que suffisament bien équipé, etc...)
-L'idée de pouvoir se "téléporter" de village en village contre des sous est plaisante, mais elle annule complètement l'intérêt d'arriver à fabriquer des véhicules. Je ne vais pas m'emmerder à traverser la carte en avion si je peux me téléporter.
-Un truc esthétique un peu stupide, aussi: on passe des heures à se créer un perso, et la seule tenue efficace est l'armure futuriste intégrale avec un casque opaque. C'est quand même dommage de modéliser d'adorables poupées manga pour à la fin se retrouver avec une armée de petits Daft Punks.
-Le côté "usine à gaz" de l'interface: des fenêtres partout, qu'on peut ouvrir, fermer, superposer... C'est un peu le ♥♥♥♥♥♥, surtout quand on regarde son scanner et que soudain un alien attaque. Là on se croirait sur photoshop avec toutes les barres d'option ouvertes.

Et surtout, SURTOUT: un ajustement du mode multijoueur, pour le moment insupportable.
Ce que je lui reproche:
-En mode coopération, on ne peut pas construire ses propres colonies. On dépend des premiers à s'être installés. Du coup on n'a plus aucun intérêt à fabriquer des murs, des tourelles, et autres. On se contente de faire des vaisseaux et d'aller casser les trois méchants disponibles.
-En mode affrontement (survie ou équipes) on peut faire son château, mais ils sont tellement facile à détruire que ça n'a aucun intérêt. Il suffit de se foutre en mode créatif, de coller un mur devant chaque tourelle, et hop, on peut démonter une citadelle en quatre secondes, vu qu'il n'y a pas moyen de "verrouiller" sa construction. (vos ennemis peuvent récupérer un mur avec un simple clic de souris, ils n'ont même pas à le casser)

Il est incomplet, encore bancal, mais n'empêche qu'on passe quelques bonnes dizaines d'heures à faire vraiment le tour. On se promène, c'est joli (très joli) et extrêmement prometteur. Le même jeu avec une dizaine de biomes en plus et un mode forteresse mieux pensé (il suffirait par exemple d'interdire la construction aux autres joueurs dans un rayon spécifique autour d'une base), et je ne le lâcherais plus.

Surtout s'ils font un effort de diversité sur les costumes.


Les remarques ci-dessus concernaient uniquement le mode "aventure", j'ai enfin testé le mode "Histoire" et voilà mes impressions:

Le début est très différent. Au lieu d'arriver dans une petite colonie déjà installée, on s'écrase au sol. Dès lors, il va falloir organiser la survie, et fédérer les rescapés qui sont pour certains isolés et en danger.

-Ce mode est BEAUCOUP plus intéressant: les missions sont variées, on peut choisir de faire une petite aventure annexe ou de poursuivre la grande histoire
-L'histoire est vraiment pas mal écrite du tout, il faut gérer les tensions entre humains, et essayer de survivre tout en enquêtant. Chaque nouveau plan de fabrication est durement acquis et les matériaux deviennent beaucoup plus précieux parce que plus durs à trouver
-Tous les reproches que je faisais regardant la monotonie du mode aventure sont à atténuer ici: les décors sont beaucoup plus variés, on traverse des ruines, des cités détruites, il y a davantage de créatures hostiles géantes qui arrivent un peu comme des boss de fin de niveau de temps en temps
-Il y a eu une mise à jour récente et quelques armes, vêtements, objets ont été ajoutés. Les biomes ont été globalement améliorés et semblent beaucoup moins vides.

Donc voilà, c'est de plus en plus beau, tout va mieux dans cette version et dans ce mode de jeu. Je le recommande chaudement que vous commenciez ou que vous ayiez déjà joué en "aventure"... C'est vraiment super prometteur!
Quelques bémols toutefois:

-La navigation n'est pas toujours très claire (surtout dans des lieux exigus comme les cavernes et les forêts avec plein d'arbres), on sent que la caméra ne sait pas ou se foutre, parfois ça bouge un peu dans tous les sens.
-Un bug hyper pénible en mission: quand on est accompagné d'un PNJ (Personnage non-joueur), il arrive que celui-ci reste coincé quelque part. Si on ne s'en rend pas compte tout de suite, on peut marcher dix minutes jusqu'au point de rendez-vous, réaliser que son gugusse est resté coincé entre deux arbres à pétaouchnock, et la seule solution est alors de rebrousser chemin pour aller le débloquer. C'est un défaut d'autant plus dommage que les personnages qu'on peut prendre dans son équipe ont une fonction "appeler" pour les faire revenir à côté de soi dans ce genre de situation, mais pas les PNJ qui squattent le temps d'une mission...
-C'est toujours assez instable. J'essaie de faire une sauvegarde toutes les 20mn mais même comme ça, régulièrement, pouf: écran gelé, bloqué à mort, plus qu'à passer par le gestionnaire des tâches pour fermer. C'est un peu pénible de relancer le jeu une ou deux fois par heure.

Attention : Avis donné pendant l'accès anticipé.

Ce jeu est tellement... Accrochant !
Vous avez plusieurs modes de jeu pour le moment:
- Story : Il y'a des PNJs qui vous donnent des quetes.
- Build : C'est la que vous pouvez construire épées, avion, voiture...
- Adventure : Vous spawnez dans une carte entièrement aléatoire.. C'est à vous de construire votre propre histoire.
- Multijoueur : Tout simplement vous pouvez jouer avec des autres personnes.


Le graphisme est pas mal, malgrès des bugs graphiques de loin, je n'aime pas trop l'aspect du gazon pour le moment. Sinon, ce jeu reste biensur un jeu très beau à voir

Jouabilité :

La première personne me manque... A notre grand regrèt.. Elle a été supprimé suite a des bugs.. Elle devrait être remise dans une prochaine mise à jour. La troisième personne est pas mal mais juste horrible lorsque vous êtes en mine..

Construction :

Vous avez des possibilités quasi infinie! Vous pouvez construire épée, voiture, avion.. Et bien plus encore.

Bugs :

A ma vue, je ne cois quasiment aucun bug a part les graphiques

Conclusions :
Si vous aimez les jeux Open World, où vous pourrez construire tout ce que vous voulez.. Construire vos maisons. Ce jeu est vraiment fait pour vous!

Je recommande grandement ce jeu !
Je n'y ai passé que 8h (au moment ou j'écrit) mais il me plait déjà énormement.

Positif :
- Un univers original.
- Des décorts trés beau.
- Jouable en multijoueur.
- Un systeme de création EXCELENT (vous pouvez créer et importer des objets dans le jeu).

Neutre :
- Comme tout sandbox un peu répétitif mais le plaisir en jeu contre-balance.
- Un gamplay un peu long à prendre en main mais intuitif.
- Un leger manque de contenu mais l'outil de création permet d'y palier.

Negatif :
- Impossible de remettre le décort en place une fois creusé (en tout cas à l'heure actuel).

Conclusion :
Pour le moment le jeu est trés prometeur, reste à voir si la suite sera aussi bien que le début.
Trés bon jeu, merci à papa minecraft d'avoir ouvers la voie à ce genre de mondes :)

Cet avi est suceptible d'être obsolete avec le temps (dû à l'Alpha).

Version Alpha et déjà très prometteur et amusant.
Assez facile à prendre en main, même si le jeu est en anglais.
Décors déjà très variés, vous pouvez couper les arbres, ceuillir beaucoup de plantes.
Sol entièrement destructible pour en récupérer les ressources. (Terre, sable, pierre, fer, cuivre,etc..)
Le système de construction des batîments est un des plus facile et pratique que je connaisse.
Les combats sont un peu léger pour le moment, et il pleut dans votre maison.
Les décors sont magnifiques, les plantes sont belles, les lumières de nuit son bien faites.

Franchement, si vous aimez l'exploration et le craft, un peu plus de 20 euros c'est pas volé du tout.

Cette Beta, Ho cette beta c'est la face visible de l'iceberge qu'est ce put*** de rpg futuriste avec une possibilité de creation d'arme , de véhicule qui deboite bref je vous le conseil et je finirai par dire "Si ce jeux était une patate, ce serai une ♥♥♥♥♥♥ de patate"

Que dire, un jeu magnifique avec beaucoup, mais beaucoup de potentiel, et déjà plein de choses à faire.Comme certain l'ont dit, il mérite à être bien plus connu.C'est le meilleur jeux craft/bac à sable/exploration/survie
L'éditeur permet de faire ce qu'on veut, comme on veut, tout est dit non ?
je conseil pour tout les fans de minecraft et autre d'acheter ce jeu , et avec les promos de noel !

Planet explorers is a game unlike any other i have played recently. I guess you could classify it as an open world action adventure RPG on an alien planet.


Amazingly rendered environments gives the planet a feel like youre actually exploring a whole other world. Weird plants wave in the wind. Large ominous trees loom in the distance. Dense forests full of vegetation to explore. 8/10


Gameplay comes in different forms. Planet explorers uses what is called an OpenCL voxel system that allows you to alter all terrain. dig a hole the hole appears. cut down a tree, and its gone. there are threee seperate forms of gameplay. Story mode tells the tale of a man that has crash landed on a mysterious planet and is sent to explore it. It sets the general arc of everything and acts a sort of tutorial for the other modes. Adventure mode allows you to just set parameters and explore to your hearts content with "towns" and npcs already in place where you can buy and sell your items. Multiplayer allows you to join a server and go explore, build structures, and co-op the games content. the Crafting system is where the game really shines. You can build pretty much anything you want, cars, planes, helicopters, hang gliders, guns, and many other things. over all a great gameplay experience. 8/10

Overall opinion

Still in early access at this point and it shows. I have had multiple issues with the MP system but that is all really. So far A solid title and definitly worth a buy in my opinion. 8/10

This game is really fun for an early access, although I waited until a steam sale and got it for 14.99 (gotta save those shekels, oy vey!).

It's like minecraft with great visuals set on some planet with dinosaurs. And jetpacks, planes, boats and bikes. That you build, from scratch in a CAD editor that is actually very simple to learn. It also has a story.

It has bugs, nothing too major apart from pathing issues with NPCs.

I give it 9 out of 10 yarmulkes.

In short: Yes, I recommend this game. It's beautiful and fun to play alone or with friends. Just remember it is early acces alpha and give it time for updates. It's already improved leaps and bounds in the past 9 months.

This is actually the first game I took the "early access" chance on and I don't regret it! It has however, spoiled me with high expectations for other early access titles, lol.

I love building games and for me, this was the first voxel builder that let me work with different shapes. Awesome.
It also has furniture and decorations. The creatures in this game have a wonderfully alien feel to them and the mega-huge boss mobs are very impressive and inspires a definite "holy $#!+, we are supposed to kill THAT?" *runs away* feeling. Exploring is great, even early on before you have the materials to craft the ridiculous aircraft and such, you can make jet packs and grapling hooks for some seriously fun travel through the world.

The feature I'm most looking forward to at the moment is farming to be fully functional in multiplayer mode since that's where I spend 99% of my time, playing with my friends and family on our lan based servers.

Combat needs to be a little more interesting but they've already stated they're working on that and sooo much more. The devs regularly communicate with their players and are regularly pumping out updates and hotfixes. They're also working on making the single-player story mode into multi-player which was a huge request from the players.

Yes, it's alpha, there are still bugs though most of the game-breaking-frustrating bugs seem to have been taken care of since I started last spring. This is without a doubt one of my favorite games I found on Steam. A hidden gem of sorts, and while it isn't finished, the progress it's made already is phenomenal and I always look forward to the next major patch to see what craziness they've managed to pull of next!

So I have put quite a few hours into this now, which gives me enough of an impression to actually write this. That is not to say that time played by default makes my opinions correct, or at all helpful, but I will try.

So I have been keeping an eye on this game since pretty much the start, maybe 2 years, not sure. But so far I have noted these key points.

The Developers:
#The developers seem quite dedicated.
#They seem ambitious, almost to a fault but not quite.
#They are a recent announcement to upgrade to unity 5 shows they wish to improve even what seems to be set in stone.
#They are slow, but they are also detailed, few game crushing bugs have ever popped up.
#They are a small team, and not as vocal with their community as I would like.
(keep this last one in mind when I describe the game, as it means alot when it comes to visual assets.)

The Game:
#Graphics are pretty good in some ways, but a letdown in other.
#The art style for humans leaves them feeling a little less real, and can be seen as a little cartoonish
#Character customization leaves a lot to be desired but has come a long way since earlier versions.
#Animation leaves a lot to be desired but it has been already announced they are going over the animations from scratch and making very impressive leaps, set to be released in 0.90 along with Unity 5 engine.
#Combat is currently clunky, ranged weapons are your only real weapon, use a bow at first but aim for a laser weapon ASAP and a large supply of batteries. Combat in melee is not an option at the moment but in a recent video they have shown great progress in the combat system coming in 0.90 Unity 5 update.
#AI is parted into what seem to be factions, often you will see animals fighting in clear and defined rolls of hunter and prey, truly one of the fantastic parts of this game.

As for my impression of the game as a whole?
I like it, I played through all the story that is currently there, and when I hit that first message saying I could not take this mission because it was not currently complete, I was left begging for more.

However I do worry the 0.90 update will require a total restart of my play through, but with all I have learned, and baring major changes, I will be able to do everything even better and even faster next time round, I know where you hid my aluminum you sly dogs!

I would buy this game again, but there is one fact I must stress to all consumers. So please read this and take it to heart.

This is an early access game, you may end up with something you did not expect, it may be bad, it may be good, it may be total trash, but you knew this going in, you paid for an unfinished untested product and it is your risk alone to take!

Pros: Nearly unlimited creativity. Want to fly a Millenium Falcon? No problem! Even if you are not very creative, installing other peoples wondrous works is as easy as drag and drop.

Exploring is fun! Some cool scenic locations as well as hangliding through alien canyons.

Storyline is solid. From the intro with Carl Sagan's quote to the mystery behind this planet, I really craved more.

Cons: Everything that comes with alpha. Bugs mostly that range from annoying (falling through the ground) to storyline breaking (Mainline npcs turn invisible).

Despite there being over 200 different animals, most of their animations and actions are too similar. Runs up to me, swings claw defines most animals (not all though).

Overall, this game is great and worth the buy. You can put a couple hours into it or hundreds, there many possibilities.

Has incredibly powerful vehicle and weapon creation system.

If there's something you want to build you can do it! A tank? yes A truck? yes A spaceship? yes! Huge hand cannon? yes!

And it won't look all blocky either!

I have been looking for a game exactly like Planet Explorers for years now. Essentially, I wanted a game about exploration and building, with an additional leadership/colony establistment dynamic added. I always played minecraft near villages, but the lack of content aimed at interacting with and leading the npcs always left me disappointed, and I wanted something better.

In Planet Explorers, you crashland on the planet Maria after something happened to the space ship, called the Epiphany, carrying hundreds of colonists. Your early quests involve providing immediate assistance and reconnaissance to the scattered and lost crews, who came down on different "lifeboats," crashing their smaller spaceships all over the main continent.

Maria is a very beautiful, engaging, and dangerous world, and I feel that I have only scratched the surface in the hours I've spent playing this game. There are different regions, called biomes because of their differing ecology, where different herbs and resources can be gathered. I find the game challenging, as early in the game you start of with very little and you can't craft everything all at once (in story mode, there are other gamemodes for just building or adventuring without the story constraints). Mining is more challenging than other similar games, because mining to a specific level isn't the answer. You use a scanning device to find various minerals, and their distribution is fairly unpredictable. Building is well done in this game, because the block is visible before it is placed, so you can get it positioned just right then place it. You can also place partial blocks, which adds detail and customization potential. Removing blocks is as simple as pressing Alt while in buildmode. I haven't built much so I'm not sure how complex what you can make is, but so far I've been pleased with the mechanics of it.

Another fun thing about this game is the createable content. Swords, guns, vehicles, and even decorative items can be created in a special interface, then once you gather the materials to make the item you can simply export them into your game. So far I only have a vehicle in the car category, but you can make everything from motorcycles to fighter jets. If you are lazy like I am, you can just go to special websites to download the "iso" files, which can then be plopped directly into the files for the game. So far this has been the route I've taken, because although thorough and very customizable, the creator tool seems tedious to me.

I just reached the point of actually establishing my colony, and I have been pleased with the mechanics and purpose it serves. I won't go into it much for fear of spoilers, but it is very customizable and there is a definate leadership element to managing the colony, it isn't a passive structure but an active community. It is also important to point out that this game is in Alpha presently- yet I am more excited and impressed with this game than I have been with many fully released pc games on stream. I definitely recommend this game to anyone looking for a challenging, creative, beautiful game about space exploration (gone horribly wrong- in a good way!).
