Planet Explorers is an open world sandbox adventure RPG game set on a distant planet. The game uses a new OpenCL calculated voxel system to allow players to change the terrain in any way, create new objects such as weapons, vehicles, objects, and do it anywhere.

“Planet Explorers is an open world RPG for its single player mode, as in there's a storyline with an ending. The game is in alpha, there will be bugs and strange things that we can't explain. Since it's an RPG, there will be more bugs than other games of the voxel type. Also due to the RPG nature, each main update will be spaced by about a month. But due to the decent size of our team, each update will contain a lot of content. We do listen very closely to our players, so you will have an opportunity to impact the direction of the game.”

In Planet Explorers, it is the year 2287, one of the first colony ships sent out by Earth arrives at the planet Maria, in the Epsilon Indi Star System. During its landing sequence, something appears in front of the massive ship that causes it to lose control and crash into the planet. Some of the colonists survive in lifeboats, but what they find is an unforgiving land filled with creatures ready to outlast the visitors from Earth. Now the survivors must explorer, gather, build, create, fight, and ultimately, build a new home.

Game Modes

Planet Explorers will feature single and multiplayer modes.

In single player there are 3 distinct selections

  • Story Mode – Story mode is the main meat and bones of the game, it is the action-adventure-rpg-somewhat-4X segment, offering npcs, missions, colony building, farming, ranching, training, diplomacy, and of course, a storyline that you can follow or ignore. This story features a 17X8km world map with many unique character, landscapes, biomes, locations, and over 100 types of potential enemies. Even though we’ve made it seem like a very action oriented game in the trailers, in reality, players can choose to not fight so much as to just plant a farm, make some food, keep the colonists alive, negotiate with the sentient aliens, and defend the perimeter from the local life forms. That can still eventually arrive at the ending. And yes, there is an ending.

  • Adventure Mode – This mode is based on a procedural map generated from a seed. Currently, it comes in a 40X40 kilometer map. Players will be able to complete random missions, defeat bosses, and explore different landscapes in the mode and eventually be able to setup conditions that they want to play (such as tower defense or attack an alien camp). This mode will also feature survival gameplay. The randomization in this mode will eventually pull in player made objects and locations so that a world will always feature something new and unique.

  • Build Mode – In this mode, there are no enemies and an infinite amount of building material. It also currently comes in a 40X40km map. Players will be able to build whatever they want in this mode, including everything in the Creations Editor. Think of this as the perfect testing ground to test everything you build. Or…it’s your place to build your garden without ever worrying about the pesky aliens.

Multiplayer allows Local Area Network and player hosted servers. It features several modes but some are still on the drawing board or going through technical trials so the final result is still in flux. Players playing multiplayer should be able to bring at least one of their created objects into multiplayer games, be it a sword, gun, or vehicle.

  • Coop – Coop comes in many selections, such as adventure mode, tower defense mode, build mode, etc. This is pretty much an open world sandbox with a max of 32 players (this number still needs to be stress tested).

  • Versus – This mode allows teams of up to 16 players to battle against 16 players from another team. We allow full terrain manipulation in this mode. Currently, it's a point based system where one team wins if they reach a certain point level based on kills, built objects, resources mined, etc.

這是一款沙盒類型的遊戲,按之前玩過 [ 當個創世神 ] 、[ 七日殺 ] 等遊戲來來寫一下心得感想。

★ 遊戲架構描述

1. 視覺表現來說我相當喜歡,視覺面比上述兩款遊戲的表現要來得更好,非常漂亮。
( 當個創世神不說,七日殺視覺稱不上理想,特別是人物....有點醜= =|||||,不過七日殺也是有他有趣的地方啦

2. 可以隨意改變地型,採集、砍樹、挖礦、打怪、任務。並使用獲得的材料來製作須要的物品,或是建造建築物。
( 目前應該是確定無法建造景觀,挖掉土無法在填回去,也找不到可以創造環境的方法,無法創造 [ 瀑布 ] [ 湖泊 ] 跟 [ 山嶽 ] 等等環境景觀 。

3. 可以在天上飛,在水中也別有洞天,海邊非常漂亮~還有海浪,沒發現有釣魚這東西,水下打魚,打怪到是完全沒問題,這點我很喜歡。水中的感覺相當吸引我,希望視覺上可以進一步強化,如水草、珊瑚、貝殼、當然外星球是沒有這東西的,我只是舉例,重點是要點出氣份。 不過水的3D流體力表現,看得出來在碰撞處理上還是很有進步空間。
( 七日殺的水中,現階段是完全失敗,也許開發團隊不打算對水域作進一部的開發

4. 這款遊戲裡面有 [ 動力系統 ] 與 [ 能源 ] 的概念,而且可以自己打造,有帶入一點Spore的味道。光以這點來說,我就會給予很高的評價。想開車~自己研發、想作直昇機~自己研發、自動防位系統也可以研發。

這裡指的是像Spore那種完全創造模式,他裡面也可以作盔甲等等相當多的東西,可是不能進行完全創造。能完全創造,而且可以互動使用的東西只有下列的項目 :

目前確定可以完全創造 [ 較具互動特性 ] 的的物品有
[ 近戰武器、盾、槍、車子、機車、飛行交通工具、船 ]
( 我看到有人設計出 [ 星海爭霸 ] 的大和戰艦,確定可以下載,沒有嘗試上傳 )
( 創是神的MOD也有提共動力系統。七日殺則沒有,電鑽可不是動力系統.....我認為不是

5. 可以帶2個夥伴上路,他們可以各自配上裝備,還有自己的技能,這點真得相當有趣。可以給傭兵食物~他肚子餓了會吃,也可以給他補血物品

6. 廣大的世界,冒險打BOSS (或是稱為巨型怪) 世界的景觀很漂亮
( 我想他的遊戲世界應該不是隨機產生的,能夠隨機當然更好,不過對這類的遊戲來說,似乎相當的困難....
( 打死大型的怪,沒啥成就感,打久了他掉的物品不知道可以拿來作什麼,可能還沒開發功能,真希望可以掉寶,如果可以掉 [ 完全創造模使用 ] 的組件更好,這種組件永遠不嫌多,好想作GUNDAM

7. 中文化,雖然簡體中文讀的有點辛苦,不過總是可以看的懂,雖然有些地方還沒中文化到,不過整體來說很不錯

★ 有趣的地方看完了,來看看我認為的缺點,與疑問

1. 連線模式的穩定性不佳,與其他連線模式的問題。
# 例如開設主機,在進入遊戲主機的初期容易當機
# 連線模式死亡後沒有使用復活針,另外付活的奇異之旅的疑惑
# 合作模式登出後共用倉庫被清空
# 連線模式打死怪以後,無法使用 [ 拿取全部物品 ] 的功能
# 制做建築物的樓梯,登出在進來後會被轉向,要從新轉回來
# 連線模式的傭兵一堆問題,PVP不會幫打,不會吃補藥,不會吃食物,死掉傳回城,別人可以雇用等等....不知道是故意這樣設定的??還是只是BUG
# 雙方採集同一個物品,產生視覺上的誤差,例如挖礦,A已經挖了礦,B卻沒看到那個洞
# 雙方開飛機在天空互轟,畫面會很延遲
# 連線模式沒看到太陽能充電版跟修裝設備


2. 打擊感,打怪的時候會有種沒打到的感覺...很難形容

3. 這遊戲並不是 [ 當個創世神 ] 不過在如此美麗的遊戲裡,會想要放牧,養點寵物,過點田園生活,應該可以理解的。也會想作點 [ 庭院湖泊 ] 、 [ 景觀瀑布 ] ,不過目前好像沒有這種功能
( 沒看到他有有上帝模式。不過 [ 當個創世神 ] 不用上帝模式也可以做到這些就是了....

4. 顯卡要求似乎很高,我用的是 CPU i7 4770 3.40Ghz 、顯卡 GTX 660Ti 跑起來是沒啥問題不過險卡叫得很大聲,而且遊戲久了,會有頓感出現,雖然玩起來也沒甚麼問題,不過也是希望可更順一點,希望遊戲的程式端可以進一步優化。

附帶一提,我是使用WIN 7 64位元的,記憶體16G。
( 遊戲期間已經當掉無數次了,大略推測4-5小時1次。另外離開遊戲的時候顯卡就不叫了.......

5. 未帶入角色培育系統,這部分也並不是說缺點,只是說如果有的話也或許別有趣味吧

6. 希望創造模式裡面可以有更多完善的工具,舉個例子 :

P.S. 創造工具裡面有做 Ctrl+Z 的功能,我愛死這個功能了。

I have only played the singleplayer story mode so far so I'm basing my experience on that bit.
The game also includes a build mode, and even online co-op play among others which I will definitely be trying out later.

The game offers a day-night cycle which is faster than real life, but still long enough to have an impact on your plans and adventures. The nighttime is pretty dark and you will have to use torches, headlights, flashlights or other sources of lighting to find your way around the landscape.

This game is in a really good state for an early access game! I would recommend this game to anyone who likes survival, exploration, crafting, and building games.

If you like survival, exploration, crafting and building this is totally the game for you!
You can craft anything from tools to guns, building modules, sentry guns, you name it. There's a lot of different crafting materials you can gather such as wood, stone, iron, copper, tin, different types of plants and more.

The game plays very well and runs smoothly (> 60 fps) on highest settings on my quad core i7 920 (3.2 Ghz OC) with 6 GB RAM and a GTX 770 GPU.

The terrain deformation is absolutely the best I've ever seen. You can literally mine out a cave or structure the way you want it.
It's a voxel based game which means the terrain deforms a lot more natural than a block game would. I can see why this is one of the strongest selling points for this game. This opencl (cuda?) technique the devs are talking about does really seem to do a lot for this game!

The textures are not "next-gen" at the moment, but very much acceptable for such a complex game. I guess this could be improved once they near a final release. It's definitely not game breaking though.

The combat is very acceptable. It's pretty straight forward, click to smash (a la minecraft) but that's totally fine with me to be honest. You are also rooted into place when performing actions which is awesome and makes combat somewhat harder.

Now, this is an early access game, but the only negative things I've been able to find after an hour or so of gameplay is that the world feels a bit empty. It doesn't feel static, since there's a lot to see like different types of animals and foliage/trees/mountains. It could feel a little more vibrant.

The music is fantastic, although there is only one song which loops. It doesn't get annoying because it's a really calm and smooth composition. It runs for a while too so it doesn't get repetitive at all.
Sometimes the combat music can get a little annoying when you're entering and leaving combat in fast intervals.

There is voice acting for most if not all conversations so far. Some of the voice acting is great and some not so great, but also by far not the worst I've experienced. Could use a little more work in some areas though.

There are some basic quests to help you figure out how crafting and gathering works which is great. The game really does a good job of easing you into the game so far. But it doesn't hold your hand too much either, which is a great thing.

I haven't touched the real storyline so far, so I'll have to see how well the story is played out. But I have high hopes!

This game is definitely worth the money and I would certainly recommend this game in it's current state!

Has a lot of potential and plays very smoothly for an alpha build. Quests and item collection work well, although melee combat is wonky (due to lack of damage animation for monsters, you have to watch the health bar). Building and terrain shifting with various tools is surprisingly functional; I didn't focus on building at first, but it's pretty easy to dig yourself a cave to hide out in, or build some platforms to get around plateaus. Vehicles and item building is also easy; the built-in creator is both powerful and simple to learn and use.

Disclaimer: I wanted to play this game mainly as a wilderness survival game at first, but a couple of things I noticed in singleplayer (story mode) made me reconsider. I wouldn't call these problems since they're mainly design choices, but they're worth noting.

1. "Surviving" in the sense of keeping your character fed/healthy is trivial; you can carry something like hundreds of thousands of items on your person (including a couple of vehicles).
2. The main difficulty in the game comes from combat, which feels frustrating; you can upgrade your armor, but it seems to do little to prevent most large creatures from taking out >1/4 of your health each blow, and there's no simple way to dodge if you're stuck in melee (say, against a flying enemy with an AOE ground attack and who's faster than you).
3. Due to infinite NPC shop storage and basically-infinite inventory, the story mode game sometimes feels like "kill x monsters for meat (currency)", buy next tier of supplies from vendors, do quests to get to new vendors, repeat". To be fair, it's pretty much the entry point for new players, so the parceling out of goods is understandable; it lacks the urgency a survival-oriented game might have, though.

I am so hooked into this game already. I havent even begun building my base yet. But what i really want to share with you guys, after having played for so many hours already. . . .

The way you need to describe this game to your friends. Its monster hunter, just a little. Its state of decay, but bigger. Its Minecraft, but prettier. These are some of my favorite games. Lets not forget, you get to build your own weapons and rides if you so choose to do so. What else are they going to create with this?

This is the game I wanted from StarForge. This review is wrote in haste, i think i have maybe 3 hours into the game, and just in survival mode at that. Game includes a Story mode and multiplayer. So as of right now, the game does show a few bugs, most of which i have been able to over look, and one game breaker when trying to load into a saved game, not sure what caused it but i can imagine being 20 hours in and BAM, saved game corruption. But becuase of the future i can see for this game, every bug can be overlooked ATM IMO. Still I would call this a early beta if i didnt know better. So the best way i can compare this game to others you might know is a SCI-FI Minecraft with Better Graphics, the ability to create your own Weapons ( completely design swords and sheilds from scratch ), and design your own Helis and Cars, Recruit others to the bases you create. You can mine for minerals, hunt monsters, but its set up where you could not have to do one or the other. Meat is used as Currency, so hunting can get you what you need to build anything. Or mining can get you the "meat" you need buy selling ores. Needless to say, im fairly impressed with this one. Playable and fun in Alpha, Thats hard to do....GOOD JOB.
