개발자의 한마디:

“Warning: Early access phase is meant to give you a chance to experience the game as it progresses through its development cycle, and the game is still at an early stage. As such, it does contain missing features and nasty bugs. Developing the game together with the players gives us a lot more creative freedom, and you get to communicate with the development team to make sure we’re making the all-out racing game that you want.”

Hot Fix Update 2014-10-09

The hot fix battery keeps on hammering! We have just updated the game with a yet another hot fix that should address the issue with the game often freezing in the loading screen when trying to join a server. A couple of other minor issues have been fixed as well.

  • The game no longer freezes into the loading screen when joining a server.
  • Cinematic camera is no longer always targeted to the host in multiplayer.
  • It's no longer possible to drive around in lobby.

게임에 대해

Wreckfest is a new demolition derby themed racing game with soft-body damage modeling, sophisticated driving dynamics and in-depth vehicle upgrading, featuring both demolition derbies and more traditional track races. It’s all about fun, breakneck racing and over-the-top crashes.

Expect epic crashes and tight, neck-to-neck fights over the finish line on run-down racing tracks. Expect proper demolition derbies. Expect brand new ways for metal to bend and the signature once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation.

It’s a motorsport, but not just any motorsport. It’s a motorsport with attitude.

Unique Racing Experience

First and foremost, we’re building a FUN racing game with PERSONALITY. It’s all about the stuff that really matters: varied tracks, cool cars, and the defining once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation. If you’re familiar with our previous games, you already know what we’re aiming at: exhilarating racing action with sophisticated physics and damage modeling, only this time we’re upping the ante on almost every front. This is the game we envisioned way back in the early 2000s, only re-imagined for today’s technology and gaming standards.

Awesome Cars

The cars are old, cheap, banged up, patched together, rusty… just awesome! In short, our cars ooze with STYLE. You won’t find anything like them in other racing games. We’ve got variety, as well: everyone loves the old American heavy-hitters from the muscle car era, but we’re not neglecting the fun little European and Asian cars from the long-gone decades either. The best part is that you’ll be taking them apart and building them back up again in your garage; the career is as much about your garage and your project cars as it is about racing.

Exciting Engine

Our in-house ROMU engine is a hell-bent beast that's precision-engineered for high-speed, breakneck racing. We have also already implemented fully deformable soft body car damage, meaning that the cars will react to damage in a very tangible, convincing way. While we're focused on action, motorsport authenticity is not forgotten, either. To that end our engine is simulating vehicle dynamics in a very sophisticated fashion. Rolling resistances, casters and slip angles are definitely not ancient Greek to us, and you as the player will be the one benefiting from our expertise.

The current Early Access release contains four playable cars and a number of tracks, showcasing both white-knuckle track racing and explosive demolition derby action with 24 cars that will give you taste of things to come. During the coming months we’re going to give the game a lot of polish as well as implement many new exciting features, and all Early Access supporters have a unique opportunity to get involved in the development of the title!

We’ve also giving a playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 to all our Early Access supporters. The sneak peek features a playground that we use internally to test various features various like car damage and environment destruction. Version 2.0 includes new destructive machinery, more dynamic stuff to blow up, spectacular stunts and an awesome physics cannon that we use to play with our physics engine. With the physics cannon you too will now have a chance to cause mayhem to heart’s content by launching missiles, throwing stuff around and destroying the environment as well as the cars!

  • NEW: Online multiplayer!
  • LAN multiplayer support.
  • Five cars: American Muscle I & II, European Hatchback, American Sedan and European Coupe, with unique handling traits.
  • A number of different performance and handling upgrades, replicating selected real-world parts.
  • A number of race tracks including Tarmac, Sandpit, Figure 8 and Speedway, featuring both normal and reverse layouts.
  • Three different derby stadiums: a large stadium, small stadium and a mud pit.
  • Various race and derby game modes including Team Deathmatch with up to (!) 24 cars, all with dynamic damage.
  • Soft-body car damage physics system that doesn't need a super computer - even online!
  • Highly configurable support for force-feedback wheels, pedals and H-shifters.
  • Dynamic content that reacts realistically – fences and billboards break down, tires fly around.
  • In-game Photo Mode and Replay with a number of cameras, configurable field-of-view and depth-of-field.
  • BONUS: A playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 - Have fun in the physics playground!

Wreckfest is currently in early Pre-Alpha stage, and the Early Access version is going to serve as a basis on which we will continue building the game based on your feedback on what works and what doesn't. Throughout the Early Access phase we're going to gradually add more content and new features to the game, with some of the most important key features planned being:

  • Improved car damage and handling.
  • More cars, each with different stylings and performance.
  • More race tracks and derby stadiums with varying surfaces.
  • More dynamic content on the tracks to drive through and crash into.
  • Highly configurable multiplayer with a variety of modes.
  • Extensive player garage and car upgrading system.
  • In-game classifieds to buy and sell cars and parts.
  • Streamlined and polished user interface.
  • Improved graphics quality and performance.

We currently estimate that the title should reach a feature-complete state in 2014, with all key features implemented. Please note that all features mentioned here may be altered or removed during the development of the title if deemed necessary.

Let me start of by stating this is actually pre-alpha. However, it is extremely badass and very promising despite the complete lack of content it shows a lot of promise. Next-car game offers much for a game so early in its development, the physics engine is second to none and the handling on the cars feels like it's getting there. The pre-alpha even boasts a photo mode to capture all the carnage, and looks like it will support lots of lens effects and photo editing tools too. Neat!

Verdict: One to watch. Don't hesitate to buy if you support development. Very promising.

First of all, I'm no Flatout fanboy so I came into this game with a clean slate as far as expectations go. I did, however, buy Flatout 2 after getting this game to see what it was like and I gotta say, this is NOT a more modern version of Flatout. It's so much better than that! I've already spent more time playing this game than most of the games in my library and it doesn't even have a career mode yet!

It's got a good balance of reality simulation and over-the-top craziness. Car physics are realistic and it looks beautiful, but your car wont die even after being smashed beyond all recognition. The tumble physics could be a bit better but that might get improved. It is a WIP after all. The races can be challenging even without the fact that you have 23 other cars trying to slam you off the track. The enemy AI won't just let you win and it requires a bit of skill to out-drive them. Even while losing, I don't get frustrated because it's just that much fun.

At the time of this review, there are 3 different cars to choose from with upgradable parts, 4 race tracks, and 3 destruction derbies. Of course more are on the way with more features, but you can play for hours even with this little bit. It doesn't say it on Steam but it has full controller support including steering wheel/pedal controls.

Overall, this game is highly entertaining and I would definitely suggest this to anyone who is interested in smash 'em up race games.

Ok so this review is aimed more towards the Tech Demo (played over 6 hours of it) than the Early Access main game so far, mainly because the Tech Demo contains a lot more fun to be had (at this present time)

It is refreshing to be able to purchase an Early Access game and have it not crash and burn on me within 5mins of playing. Infact, this game is already so stable that I have actually tried really hard to make it crash without success... Either my computer is better than it appears or the game's physics coding is so damn solid it's very hard to fault.

Play the tech demo under the assumption that restrictions to the physics will be added in the future, because for now, as hilarious as it is, having your car STILL drivable with 1 wheel, no engine, and crushed into the size of a beach ball is a little far fetched, and while it is extremely satisfying to watch it get smashed and mangled into 1000 peices over and over and over in 1000 different ways, the realism is broken after a certain point because it has no killswitch as such.

I am excited to see more from Next Car Game, especially different game modes, tracks, cars etc.

If you enjoy FlatOut, Crashday, GRID or Destruction Derby (the original), then I highly recommend this game, especially the Tech Demo.

Graphics are solid, the destruction physics are some of the most impressive I have ever seen (and I've seeked out games like this for over 15 years).

It also has full controller support even for the very freshly added features (The cannon, added within the last couple of weeks).

NOTE: You need a pretty beasty computer to enjoy this lag free. I suspect the graphics aren't nearly as taxing as the physics, so bare in mind that CPU power is a big player in this game.

Very keen to see more from Bugbear.

Early Access game: 6/10 (so far, with its current content)
Tech Demo Bonus: 9/10

If Bugbear added the physics playground to the Early Access game this would be hard not to give a 10/10 to.... But alas, they have kept them seperate for unknown reasons (they seem like different build versions)

I've also attempted to take the game apart and see if I could port cars from the Early Access game to the tech demo, no such luck, this game in it's current form is NOT very moddable, not in any conventional way that I'm aware of.

As for the cons of the game, well, it is Early Access so I'll try and be fair;

- The title is a bit bland & generic, and doesn't accurately portrey the amount of effort these guys have put into coding such a detailed soft body dynamics engine.

- Only 3 camera modes, which is ok, but it really needs more. Especially in a driving game. (And especially in it's current state)

- There is no driver model as such, there is a driver inside the vehicle, but it is part of the soft body of the car, and thus bends and mangles with the car, funny, but realism breaking.

- The sound design of the car engine is pretty awesome, however, there is only really 1 or 2 variants so far. Gets annoying after a couple of hours

- In the Tech Demo, the edge of the map contains a yellow boundary that repairs and resets your car after driving on it, however, if you miss it (fly over it and off the edge into the void) your car just resets, sometimes nowhere near where you flew off the map. I think this is minor but it too gets annoying having to pause and press Repair All (and lose all the destruction around the map) just to be able to continue driving

- The Early Access game doesn't really have much in the way of instructions or helpers. You and 23 (max) other AI players in a small demo derby arena, obviously trying to be the last surviving, but the problem is no mini map, no hint of WHO is remaining, apart from the # of players left top right of the screen. Few times I've not been able to get to the 1 person left, because their car is still 'alive' but not drivable, ergo they are stuck in the middle of 22 other cars that I also can't get to. There shouldn't be an option for stalemate in demo derby but that's the outcome i've had many times.

The best demolition derby game ever produced. Unique physics engine, 80/20 simulation/arcade, very very fun game. The gameplay is solid, handling is solid and adjustable. A great game that will only get better with time. 8/10
