“Warning: Early access phase is meant to give you a chance to experience the game as it progresses through its development cycle, and the game is still at an early stage. As such, it does contain missing features and nasty bugs. Developing the game together with the players gives us a lot more creative freedom, and you get to communicate with the development team to make sure we’re making the all-out racing game that you want.”

First real track revealed

As you know, Wreckfest is all about recreating a visceral racing experience in total, and realistic environments play a very important role in that. Since we have come to learn that you cannot really create an authentic race track from the top of your head we involve ourselves in regular field trips to local motorsports avenues. One of these little 'research excursions' took place a couple of weeks ago when we visited a motorsports center in southern Finland that's a venue to many exciting motorsports activities, folk-racing in particular. Although we take cues from banger racing and demolition derby, Scandinavian folk-racing has always been our main source of inspiration for the game so a track like this one is a perfect reference for us.

It wasn't a race day so the track was empty (save for a couple of karting guys doing practice runs) but we didn't mind it at all since our plan this time was to capture the environment with our digital cameras, the idea being that we could later on use the photographic references captured by us to recreate the track details and various environmental props in-game. However, while shooting all the lovely details on location we came up with a wild idea: what if, instead of just recreating some of the details, we would recreate the complete track in-game? We thought that would be pretty neat so that's exactly what we did! Here's a couple of screenshots from the first version:

Real folk-racing tracks are not often seen in games, but we figured something like this specific track would make a perfect match for our kind of rough, bumper-to-bumper folk-racing. As you can see the track is obviously still in early stages of development, but you can already make out the general layout as well as get some idea of the environment. It will take weeks of additional development to get this track to its final polished stage, but as a result you will have a real race track to race around, faithfully recreated in the game.

Our next update will contain a playable prototype of the track so that you can take a sneak peek at it and let us hear your opinion on it. Speaking about the update, it will also contain a feature that many of you have been anxiously waiting for: career gameplay! For the first time ever you will actually have to start from scratch and earn money to buy better cars and parts. The career will still lack many of the planned features but you will already have an opportunity to get a glimpse of what we have in store for you. Many other improvements are also in the pipeline, but more news later!

Bu Oyun Hakkında

Wreckfest is a new demolition derby themed racing game with soft-body damage modeling, sophisticated driving dynamics and in-depth vehicle upgrading, featuring both demolition derbies and more traditional track races. It’s all about fun, breakneck racing and over-the-top crashes.

Expect epic crashes and tight, neck-to-neck fights over the finish line on run-down racing tracks. Expect proper demolition derbies. Expect brand new ways for metal to bend and the signature once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation.

It’s a motorsport, but not just any motorsport. It’s a motorsport with attitude.

Unique Racing Experience

First and foremost, we’re building a FUN racing game with PERSONALITY. It’s all about the stuff that really matters: varied tracks, cool cars, and the defining once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation. If you’re familiar with our previous games, you already know what we’re aiming at: exhilarating racing action with sophisticated physics and damage modeling, only this time we’re upping the ante on almost every front. This is the game we envisioned way back in the early 2000s, only re-imagined for today’s technology and gaming standards.

Awesome Cars

The cars are old, cheap, banged up, patched together, rusty… just awesome! In short, our cars ooze with STYLE. You won’t find anything like them in other racing games. We’ve got variety, as well: everyone loves the old American heavy-hitters from the muscle car era, but we’re not neglecting the fun little European and Asian cars from the long-gone decades either. The best part is that you’ll be taking them apart and building them back up again in your garage; the career is as much about your garage and your project cars as it is about racing.

Exciting Engine

Our in-house ROMU engine is a hell-bent beast that's precision-engineered for high-speed, breakneck racing. We have also already implemented fully deformable soft body car damage, meaning that the cars will react to damage in a very tangible, convincing way. While we're focused on action, motorsport authenticity is not forgotten, either. To that end our engine is simulating vehicle dynamics in a very sophisticated fashion. Rolling resistances, casters and slip angles are definitely not ancient Greek to us, and you as the player will be the one benefiting from our expertise.

The current Early Access release contains four playable cars and a number of tracks, showcasing both white-knuckle track racing and explosive demolition derby action with 24 cars that will give you taste of things to come. During the coming months we’re going to give the game a lot of polish as well as implement many new exciting features, and all Early Access supporters have a unique opportunity to get involved in the development of the title!

We’ve also giving a playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 to all our Early Access supporters. The sneak peek features a playground that we use internally to test various features various like car damage and environment destruction. Version 2.0 includes new destructive machinery, more dynamic stuff to blow up, spectacular stunts and an awesome physics cannon that we use to play with our physics engine. With the physics cannon you too will now have a chance to cause mayhem to heart’s content by launching missiles, throwing stuff around and destroying the environment as well as the cars!

  • Online multiplayer with 24 players.
  • Dedicated server support.
  • LAN multiplayer.
  • Seven cars: American Muscle I, II & III, European Hatchback, American Sedan and European Coupe I & II, each with unique handling traits.
  • A number of different performance and handling upgrades, mimicking selected real-world parts.
  • A number of race tracks including Tarmac, Sandpit, Figure 8 and Speedway I & II, featuring both normal and reverse layouts.
  • Four different derby stadiums: Speedbowl, Stadium, Small Stadium and Mud Pit.
  • Various race and derby game modes including Team Deathmatch with up to (!) 24 cars, all with dynamic damage.
  • Soft-body car damage physics system that doesn't need a super computer - even online!
  • Highly configurable support for force-feedback wheels, pedals and H-shifters.
  • Dynamic content that reacts realistically – fences and billboards break down, tires fly around.
  • In-game Photo Mode and Replay with a number of cameras, configurable field-of-view and depth-of-field.
  • BONUS: A playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 - Have fun in the physics playground!

Wreckfest is currently in early Pre-Alpha stage, and the Early Access version is going to serve as a basis on which we will continue building the game based on your feedback on what works and what doesn't. Throughout the Early Access phase we're going to gradually add more content and new features to the game, with some of the most important key features planned being:

  • Improved car damage and handling.
  • More cars, each with different stylings and performance.
  • More race tracks and derby stadiums with varying surfaces.
  • More dynamic content on the tracks to drive through and crash into.
  • Highly configurable multiplayer with a variety of modes.
  • Extensive player garage and car upgrading system.
  • In-game classifieds to buy and sell cars and parts.
  • Streamlined and polished user interface.
  • Improved graphics quality and performance.

Please note that all features mentioned here may be altered or removed during the development of the title if deemed necessary.

My probelm with this game is that in every way it is not worth $30. I put in about $5 when it was in kickstarter and it's totally worth that but anyone who paid $30 got ripped. They will never finish this game, it was their toy, and now that they have made some money on what is now an outdated game, they will do what they have done with other games and move on. It's a shame, but it's true.

HOWEVER, this game could be a ton of fun with very little work involved. make the game as-is right now but add the ability to download from a third party, cars and tracks and for gods sake fix the damn MP to function. Every time i join a race I'm all psyched thinking "i have a ping of 50 this race should be incredible" only to be disappointed when the screen constantly flutters and my car jumps around on the track and i have momentary loss of all control over the car for a half second at a time.

Even more idiotic is the control scheme. they have (what i can only imagine) is gear selections for someone with an H shifter (6 gears+ reverse) however, there is no clutch binding, rendering that useless, and if you go with some sort of sequential, you might as well just select automatic, because the shifts are so slow I could complete a lap around one of the Oval tracks before someone could shift from reverse to 5th gear and back... just kinda sad. it's like grandma is sitting in the passenger seat trying to shift the gears for you. There is no real support for axis controls. The throttle only really gets recognized at about 50% anything before that makes the engine do funny stuff like not work or sputter or just go full throttle, the steering axis seems to be the only one that works, and I'm pretty sure if you set an axis for handbrake it doesn't work at all. All of which the axis cannot be calibrated. This goes for any controller, xbox controller, wheel, doesn't matter, it just doesn't work well.

Lastly, The soft body physics were supposed to be the spotlight of the game yet they are an embarassment to anyone in the animations world because it's so terrible and fake. The cars deform, but not realistically. Watch some video's of Beam.NG that is true car deformation. This game should have that, but instead it is as if your car is build from some kind of metal that after it gets hit with "x" amount of force it turns into putty and then back hard. It's laughable, and somwhat comical at times, but to be honest I would rather the frame break or a wheel fall off than to have some warped up car with two wheels still able to drive at full speed even though the engine is bent at a 45° angle and would not function any longer. Yes it's supposed to be a goofy game, but how goofy do we really want it to be?

That brings up another point. The devs brag about a tire model to make it realistic yet show no concern to make the game realistic. I think the devs got lost somewhere and didn't know what to do, and to be honest I think it was when they started selling the game. I think they said "heck with making what we started, let's just conform to our target market" and that tarket market is somewhere between chimps on cocaine and Sim racers looking to goof off, which would actually be a great discription of how this game is made. Some parts are super awesome, other parts seem to have came out of a coloring book.

I'm just not sure what this game is or isn't supposed to be and every time you go to mention an issue with the game on any forum, you will be blasted for questioning it. I don't see how so many people can drink the kool-aid thinking this game will be finished when it took nearly a year for a single update to drop on this game. Let's face it a year between updates means they don't care anymore, regardless of what they post on their website.

Slow updates and no content at all . Changing your engine 100 times is not a good strategy either , put some thought into it from the start .

Pros: Demolition derbies were kind of fun

Cons: Horribly unoptimised, terrible fps on low settings
Hardly any content, basicly a few race tracks and two game types
A career mode is being worked on, and has been for a very long time
Practicly nothing added for almost a year
Damage physics aren't anywhere near as good as on the demo

The only game I've bought where I truely want a refund. Another example of the dangers of early access.

Boring, 'wreckfest' has turned into a heavy sim 'clean racing' game, I have no idea where this comes from but it's a terrible direction to take the game and has earned it's way to one of the lowest tiers of 'racing games'

The game simply is not fun, people actually somehow have twisted the developers into making a more Sim oriented game with horribly slow clunky driving- oh I'm sorry "Sim" Driving, Naw this is not a SIM Racing game at all, the physics are rather poor, the crashing feels clunky, and for the length of time it's been in dev the 'sneak peak' is still more fun.

Physics: Garbage
Damage Modeling: Garbage
Content... What Content? There's NOTHING TO THIS GAME, Dear Lord it's so bare bones it's shamefull.
Another Poor Sim Racing Game, Avoid it.
