Kehittäjien kertomaa:

“Warning: Early access phase is meant to give you a chance to experience the game as it progresses through its development cycle, and the game is still at an early stage. As such, it does contain missing features and nasty bugs. Developing the game together with the players gives us a lot more creative freedom, and you get to communicate with the development team to make sure we’re making the all-out racing game that you want.”

Update 2016-04-20: Modding Support!

We're back with a bang and you read it right: the latest update to Wreckfest adds an official vehicle modding support for both single and multiplayer, something that obviously many of you have requested to make Wreckfest an even more thrilling, unique experience. A recipe for awesomeness!

We're providing you all the tools you need to export your vehicle model from Autodesk 3ds Max and then set it up correctly. The provided TGA to BMAP texture compiler can be used for other modding purposes as well, not just for vehicles. Be aware that since this is the first time ever that mods are officially support by the game it's very likely that there will be quite a few hiccups along the way to make Wreckfest a robust platform for modding. Please also note that many things will still change and there is no guarantee that your mod will not break in a future update (or every update!).

To create a new mod first you should create a new folder under 'mods' that will contain your mod data. You can name the folder as you wish; for example 'mods/MikesPowerMod', 'mods/SamsVehiclePack', and so on are all valid names. You can create as many mod folders as you wish, so it's definitely a good idea to create an own folder for each mod. The mod folders should have the same structure as the game's main data folder (so first subfolder will be 'data'), but only contain edited or new files. After you've created your mod car, you can enable it in the in-game mod manager found in the garage and the car will appear in the in-game marketplace (price can be set to 0).

More instructions can be found in the game's 'tools' folder.

Things to note:

  • Provided tools allow exporting car models from 3ds Max and converting them to the game's format.
  • TGA to BMAP texture compiler is also provided for texture modding.
  • Use the included BagEdit editor to modify car's parts and parameters and create completely new parts like custom engines and gearboxes.
  • An example Wwise project and a guide for creating your own vehicle sounds can be found in tools/wreckfest_vehicle_audio_tools.zip.
  • Mod cars give no rewards and are not allowed on the leaderboards.
  • You should not edit stuff inside the game's original 'data' folder, rather copy the files you want to edit to your mod folder.
  • Multiplayer requires that server and clients have the same mods enabled (though some things like car skins are excluded as before).
  • Dedicated server can also require mods by configuring mods=some_mod,other_mod.

Other changes and new stuff in the update:
  • Parts no longer wear in multiplayer. As a consequence, multiplayer gives no crew experience and much less money reward.
  • Multiplayer now offers "rental cars" which cost nothing but also give no rewards at all.
  • You can now view server's welcome message before joining, in the server browser. Feel free to list your required mods there.
  • You can now bring your favorite car to the front of the list by clicking the star icon.
  • Added lobby context menu options to show Steam profile page and open Steam chat for selected player.
  • Fixed Asian 1 shadow.
  • Fixed derby scoring sometimes stopping.
  • Fixed incorrectly set aero drag/torque.
As always, thanks for sticking with us!

Update 2016-03-23

The latest update is now out with following changes:

  • Sandpit no longer crashes the dedicated server.
  • Added a button to quickly buy and install a replacement part for a given part slot.
  • A purchased part can be now automatically installed if it's compatible with the current car.
  • Added a confirmation popups when purchasing a part and recruiting a crew.
  • Cars now automatically drive to the pits after finishing the race instead of doing infinite laps (not yet on all tracks, though).
  • Race time is now calculated correctly for the elimination race winner.
  • It's now possible to click a button even if fast-forwarding in replay kills the frame rate.
  • Improved HUD player list team icon placement.
  • Updated some loading screen pictures.
  • Improved Asian 1.

Tietoja pelistä

Wreckfest is a new demolition derby themed racing game with soft-body damage modeling, sophisticated driving dynamics and in-depth vehicle upgrading, featuring both demolition derbies and more traditional track races. It’s all about fun, breakneck racing and over-the-top crashes.

Expect epic crashes and tight, neck-to-neck fights over the finish line on run-down racing tracks. Expect proper demolition derbies. Expect brand new ways for metal to bend and the signature once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation.

It’s a motorsport, but not just any motorsport. It’s a motorsport with attitude.

Unique Racing Experience

First and foremost, we’re building a FUN racing game with PERSONALITY. It’s all about the stuff that really matters: varied tracks, cool cars, and the defining once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation. If you’re familiar with our previous games, you already know what we’re aiming at: exhilarating racing action with sophisticated physics and damage modeling, only this time we’re upping the ante on almost every front. This is the game we envisioned way back in the early 2000s, only re-imagined for today’s technology and gaming standards.

Awesome Cars

The cars are old, cheap, banged up, patched together, rusty… just awesome! In short, our cars ooze with STYLE. You won’t find anything like them in other racing games. We’ve got variety, as well: everyone loves the old American heavy-hitters from the muscle car era, but we’re not neglecting the fun little European and Asian cars from the long-gone decades either. The best part is that you’ll be taking them apart and building them back up again in your garage; the career is as much about your garage and your project cars as it is about racing.

Exciting Engine

Our in-house ROMU engine is a hell-bent beast that's precision-engineered for high-speed, breakneck racing. We have also already implemented fully deformable soft body car damage, meaning that the cars will react to damage in a very tangible, convincing way. While we're focused on action, motorsport authenticity is not forgotten, either. To that end our engine is simulating vehicle dynamics in a very sophisticated fashion. Rolling resistances, casters and slip angles are definitely not ancient Greek to us, and you as the player will be the one benefiting from our expertise.

EARLY ACCESS FEATURES

The current Early Access release contains four playable cars and a number of tracks, showcasing both white-knuckle track racing and explosive demolition derby action with 24 cars that will give you taste of things to come. During the coming months we’re going to give the game a lot of polish as well as implement many new exciting features, and all Early Access supporters have a unique opportunity to get involved in the development of the title!

We’ve also giving a playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 to all our Early Access supporters. The sneak peek features a playground that we use internally to test various features various like car damage and environment destruction. Version 2.0 includes new destructive machinery, more dynamic stuff to blow up, spectacular stunts and an awesome physics cannon that we use to play with our physics engine. With the physics cannon you too will now have a chance to cause mayhem to heart’s content by launching missiles, throwing stuff around and destroying the environment as well as the cars!

  • NEW: Vehicle mod support for both single player and multiplayer.
  • Online multiplayer with 24 players.
  • Dedicated server support.
  • LAN multiplayer.
  • Eight cars: American Muscle I, II & III, European Hatchback, American Sedan, European Coupe I & II and Asian Coupe, each with unique handling traits.
  • A number of different performance and handling upgrades, mimicking selected real-world parts.
  • A number of gravel, mixed surface and tarmac race tracks, many inspired by real-world tracks, featuring both normal and reverse layouts.
  • Many fan-favorite tracks like Figure 8 and Speedway I & II, guaranteed to offer total destruction with 24 cars.
  • Four different derby stadiums: Speedbowl, Stadium, Small Stadium and Mud Pit.
  • Various race and derby game modes including Team Deathmatch with up to (!) 24 cars, all with dynamic damage.
  • Soft-body car damage physics system that doesn't need a super computer - even online!
  • Highly configurable support for force-feedback wheels, pedals and H-shifters.
  • Dynamic content that reacts realistically – fences and billboards break down, tires fly around.
  • In-game Photo Mode and Replay with a number of cameras, configurable field-of-view and depth-of-field.
  • BONUS: A playable Technology Sneak Peek 2.0 - Have fun in the physics playground!

UPCOMING FEATURES

Wreckfest is currently in early Pre-Alpha stage, and the Early Access version is going to serve as a basis on which we will continue building the game based on your feedback on what works and what doesn't. Throughout the Early Access phase we're going to gradually add more content and new features to the game, with some of the most important key features planned being:

  • Improved car damage and handling.
  • More cars, each with different stylings and performance.
  • More race tracks and derby stadiums with varying surfaces.
  • More dynamic content on the tracks to drive through and crash into.
  • Highly configurable multiplayer with a variety of modes.
  • Extensive player garage and car upgrading system.
  • In-game classifieds to buy and sell cars and parts.
  • Streamlined and polished user interface.
  • Improved graphics quality and performance.

Please note that all features mentioned here may be altered or removed during the development of the title if deemed necessary.

Toivottavasti Wreckfestiin tulee sellaista uudelleenpeluuarvoa lisäävää sisältöä vielä, jota jaksaa tahkota. Peli on teknisesti todella hieno.

Early Access -arvostelu
About 2 years ago i bought a "Promise".... I saw the Sneak Peek 2.0 and i loved it! Remembering the good old times with Flatout i thought to my self "This is what i want and i will support it.", so i bought the "Early Access Game. And for a while it was good.

But since we are in a "Early Access Game" things can change completley. Im sitting here and watching this Slideshow from screenshots out of the game today and i ask my self "Where is all that stuff from the screenshots that BUGBEAR is showing and advertising?!?".
Since the grand "Overhaul" of the whole game engine and concept, this game turned in to a racing simulator. There are no more chrashes like on the screenshots. No flying physics particles and parts or wheels. There is no flying ragdolls or cardeformations like on these Screenshots you are looking at. The whole game is stripped of this. It is a bad unfinished racing simulator where you get penalties when you touch the gras on the side of the road. It is hard as hell and BORING as ♥♥♥♥!

It turned from a fun carnage wreckfest in to a boring Simulator.

The new engine has a problem with NVIDIA cards of the 700 series. The whole screen flickers and makes the game almost unplayable. This issue is reported more than 7 months ago from many people, NO change in this direction til today. There are Forumposts from people who have older cards of the 600 generation, they cant even play this garbage with playable framerates.

I dont understand (well actualy i do) why Bugbear still shows these Screenshots here. There is nothing like this in the game at all. Exept the screenshots from the Sneak Peek 2.0 but the Sneek Peak is nothing like the real game today. This is also something that puzzles me, why dont they say that the Sneak Peek 2.0 is nothing like the real game. Why dont they correct this missunderstanding and make a Sneak Peek 3.0. The 2.0 Version is not even the same engine as the new one. I is a straight out LIE!

I understand that it still is unfinished and that things will change in the future and all the bugs i mentioned will disapear but the game like they are showing on these Screenshots and in the Sneak Peek 2.0 does not exist.

My final verdict:

Don't buy this game if you wanted a fun racer with tonns of chrashes and carnage.
Don't buy this until they finish their work.

I want to give this a positive review so bad, but there's just nothing much being done on this game anymore. This games strength is definitely within its destruction, the devs just need to make more use of it.

Wait a few months. It can be reanimated yet.

I remember when this game offered a lot of hope. Well those days are gone. This games was a fun enough demo derby, but it certainly not a whole game. Anyone who bought it, including me. Paid for a expensive demo. This game might be finished. But I think we might have Half Life 6 by then.
