“There’s nothing to rank alongside it. Influences and borrowings be damned – it stands alone and is as brilliantly designed, challenging and cunning a package of ideas and aesthetic choices as anything I’ve seen this year.”
Wot I Think – Rock, Paper, Shotgun

“Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of its pixels: no individual element of Dungeon of the Endless is especially complicated, but together they form a fiendish and unforgiving challenge. If you’re willing to take that on then it makes it more than worthwhile, borrowing from several genres to create something that feels unique - as well as bursting with personality and smart choices.”
8.1/10 – IGN

“From its setting to its design and aesthetic, Dungeon of the Endless feels like a game built for me. It’s tough and unforgiving, but it’s also fair. Despite all the deaths I spent climbing through the dungeon’s floors, I slowly mastered the game. That’s a testament to the roguelike genre, and it’s why I like tangling with it so much.”
4.5/5 – Game Revolution

Om dette spil

A few hundred condemned criminals were being shipped to the Auriga system on board the prison hulk “Success”. While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust.

In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet.

Every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of facility of the Endless, down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon…

Gather A Team.

  • Form a team of heroes, each with their own strengths (and psychoses)
  • Equip them, deploy them, and earn powerful abilities
  • Manage the balance between ex-prison inmates and guards
  • Experience four player coop and watch your back

Build Your Defenses.

  • Use the Dust you gather to power the rooms
  • Use scarce resources to help your team survive
  • Build minor and major modules to hold off waves of monsters
  • Decode Endless ruins to discover life-saving technologies

Open the Door.

  • Each door is a danger; prepare yourself and your team for anything
  • Explore and discover an infinity of levels and layouts
  • Carry your crystal through waves of monsters to the exit of each level
  • Fight your way to the surface to discover the truth about Auriga

Although sometimes it feels impossible to win I still liked it enough to keep trying. A mostly roguelike game that is worth it for $10 or less. Multiplayer is nonexistent unless you bring the friends.

also the lore is ♥♥♥♥ing amazing. All of the Endless games (though different genres) are combined into one amazingly detail package.

Had been watching this game on the store for ages, and gave in when it was on special and also picked up a DLC pack.
What the movies and info doesn't tell you is that the game is effectively a simple clicky game with little to no strategy.

It fulfills all the niche 'hip' cliche's from a couple years ago : 8 bit GFX, rogue-like, random, progressive, blah blah blah.
But in the end all your doing is exactly the same thing for 12 missions to unlock another ship to do exactly the same thing over and over again.

I play Warframe .. I know ALL ABOUT doing the same thing over and over again and really enjoying it.
But this really missed the mark with me.

My beef's are :
1. The game takes a LONG time to play. Nothing is done quickly, and there is very little excitement after the first few rooms you unlock.
2. The 'unique characters' really don't have much differences to them. Sure this woman runs a bit faster and this guy has a different gun. But they're all much of a much-ness.
3. The weapons available to you are very thin with a clear progression. There's no 'fun' in the armory. Sure there's some gags and what not but after you've read them you don't really care. I was expecting real choices between items : eg. pick this one for an obscure boost over a certain gain with this item.
4. The interactions between the characters are so few and far between, and really amount to nothing. With such an advertised diversity I was expecting them to have a bit more personality but it's all just 'the first guy has an extra +1 gun skill, the second guy runs a little bit faster, the third guy does something else, etc'.
5. There is very little replay value. I got to level 11 on my first go, and then got bored and started watching TV so one of my guys died, and after that it was useless to try to continue. It wasn't a challange, it was just pointless.
6. It's not worth $12 (US) .. I bought this on special and honestly I've played games for 99c a hell of a lot more and had a ton more fun. Even at half price I feel like I should have thrown it back to Steam for a refund. But I bought it and played it and will give the dev's their dew and money for it.

Overall, do your research before buying. It wasn't my cup of tea even though it really looked like it would be.
If you're unsure just buy TeleGlitch and have some fun with that because it kinda does everything this game say's it does but does it in a way that's actually fun. Even Chainsaw Warrior is better even though it's massively simpler and about 99% less involved.

Underwhelming and over rated.
Sorry guys. But hey at least your marketing strategy worked.

Game-play is an engaging cross between Role Playing Game (with hero level ups and hero to hero interactions and back story) and Tower Defense. The album element is akin to both "in game achievement" and further immersion in the game's universe and back story. Tower defence elements and, in particular, dust/energy management make for significant floor layout strategies. Humour runs rampant through character dialogues and item names and descriptions. Somehow this game manages to blend not taking itself seriously and yet being a serious game to play.

One part Original Rogue, one part Deadspace/Doom (re. creature vibes), one part nostalgia (Other endless references, graphics, game style et al.). I have found this to be highly entertaining and it will easily be a "go back to" game even when finished/fully unlocked.

Dungeon of the Endless is a randomly generated pixel dungeon crawler, featuring awesome playable characters, the highest level of replayability, and a unique leveling system. You can place traps to fend off the monsters that exist for the sole purpose of demolishing your fun times. As you go deeper, the amount of monsters increases, and the amount of dust used to fuel the light that keeps monsters at bay decreases. This game is so completely awesome, and I totally suggest you check it out.

This game is amazing.
It is fun,unique and great.
In the game you have ALOT of heros, each one with there own special skils, you can have up to 4 heros in one game.
There are 8 pods and each one will change the way you play, that is your playstyle.
The game has tower defense which is very IMPORTANT and you will use it if you want to win. There are 3 types of tower defense modules
1.Offensive(They kill the mobs)
2.Supportive(They help your heros)
3.Semi-offensive(i forgot the name but they don t deal direct damage, they handicape the mob in some way)
There is also resource managment. You have:
1.Industry(you build stuff with this)
2.Food(with food you level up your heros and heal them in the time of need)
3.Science(you resarche modules and upgrade them with this)
4.Dust(the most important of all, with this you light up rooms so you can build minor or biger modules, and prevent mobs from spawning,if you lose all your dust you lose)
There are ALOT and i mean ALOT of mobs and each type of mob has there own goals to make your life living hell.
Some of them attack your heros, some attack your modules, some attack you crystal(the dust bank)and all of them work together to screw you over.
The game is also unpredictable, with that i mean one minut you are relaxing while knowing everything is fine and the next half of your heros are DEAD because you didn t pay enough attention on the mobs and your heros.
NOW your goal is to escape all 12 floors of the dungeon with your crew of heros.
Sounds simple,BUT IT ISNT!!!
This game is trial and error, and you will die ALOT.
The multiplayer is fun with a few very small issues.
The server list is like being in the Sahara desert, it is empty. It is not common to see 2 individual servers on the list.
In multiplayer sometimes the game crashes or gets disconnected, but if you save the game each floor you don t have to worry especaly when this problems for me rarely happen.
Thats all.
AND my final sentence fot this review.
This game is a masterpiece!!!

Good retro graphics, good replayability. Customization of each run is high. The dialogue and backstory text is funny. Only downside is it can be pretty difficult at times, even on "easy" mode and micromanaging resources.

So far as I have been playing it, the game is still awesome. I have played it in singleplayer and in multiplayer with friends. It is unbelievably fun to play and I can't pause a game once I am playing one.
I seriously recommend this game to anyone who likes tower defense and the dialog they get in singleplayer after completing a floor.

When you play the game you start with about four(?) characters and an escape pod. You can choose two characters with singleplayer and with multiplayer one. Throughout the game you meet several merchants, other characters and more..

The DLCs are also very fun, as they add more spaceships and more fun characters.

Do not hesitate to buy it.

It is fun.
The definition of fun.

Dungeon of the Endless is very addicting. I loved every bit of this game even though it wasn't the best graphics in the world at the time it came out, but I think that made it all the more interesting. Being able to play new characters as you unlocked them was awesome and switching out is neat. I definitely say this is a game to pick up and play with your friend's. THis is also not only a party game with friends, but a game you can play solo as well!!! In the end, I am still glad I got to play this game and see just exactly what it is. I don't regret buying this game, and i'm not being sarcastic... if that thought crosses your mind while reading this, honestly it is a fun game!

Turn based tower defense procedurally generated resource managing hero-controlling item customizable rpg. I probably missed a few.

The combination of all these things (and those not included) creates a game with a multitude of possible playstyles, and regardless of which one(s) you choose, the game is an absolute blast.

Multiplayer has a ton of problems. Disconects, crashes, graphical glitches. Roughly about 30% of your experience is spent recovering from these problems and a good amount of games simply end because of them. It's hard to get people to play, because nobody has the time to endure all these problems. Frankly, the only reason games like this are allowed to release because there is no real quality control or regulation over what counts as a broken product.

Conclusion:
It's a mixed bag. On one hand, you are having fun playing a game with an interesting concept, on the other hand you are cursing yourself for supporting the endless line of products that release knowing well their product barely works. Thus I can't recommend.

+Core gameplay.
-Graphical style
-Shameless problems that should've been fixed before ever considering to release.

Take the procedural dungeon generation of a roguelite, the looting and hero-building of an action-RPG, and the research and development of a tower defense game and you'll start to get an idea of what "Dungeon of the Endless" is about.

You might still hate the game, but it won't be for lack of creativity.

I could probably spend a lot of words explaining the game's mechanics to you, but I'd be talking all day: At its essence, Dungeon of the Endless is about guiding 1-4 "heroes" through a series of dungeon floors. To transition floors, you must use a crystal to power the elevator. But the crystal is heavy and fragile, and everything living inside the dungeon wants to kill it above all other things.

Along the way you'll encounter new "heroes"--some of these individuals have histories with one another (for better or worse) and each represents a unique set of potential skills in getting the hell out of the dungeon. You'll also find an anachronistic mix of equipment--swords and machineguns, textbooks and jumpsuits--for outfitting these characters.

While heroes will be your primary way of interacting with the dungeon (and the only way to get the crystal from one elevator to the next) you will also need to research and develop a whole host of "modules" that bolster your defenses against the dungeon hordes while your heroes search for the next exit. There are modules for generating new sources of science (needed to research and upgrade new modules), food (needed to level-up heroes), and industry (needed to actually BUILD modules), modules for killing different kinds of creatures, modules for defense and healing, etc. Suffice to say, your heroes probably won't get very far unless you're actively researching and developing new modules.

There's also a fourth resource simply called "Dust", which is required to power rooms. Modules only function in powered rooms, and powered rooms prevent monsters from spawning in them. To keep your defenses functioning and your heroes from being mauled by monstrous swarms, you'll need to carefully route and re-route power to rooms as you explore each floor.

But for as complex as the game can be, there's an efficiency to it that makes it easy to learn but challenging to master. There's no obligatory grinding, or dead-end research trees to waste time on, or useless skills to invest in. You can rush through each map as quickly as it takes you to find the exit, and ignore research or heroes (at your own peril). Everything that exists in the game has a valid role or use, with few (if any) "traps" to watch out for. And that's nice, frankly, because you'll be experimenting with a lot of different strategies and dying a lot in the process.

Speaking of dying, there are a few issues with the game that may sour opinions. For starters, dungeons can be downright stingy with Dust--the aforementioned resource that powers modules and rooms--later on in the game. If you're not prepared for the chagrin of the RNG, a Dust-shortage can rapidly spell disaster. Fortunately there are numerous solutions to this scenario, including Emergency Generators, Shop modules, and hero-specific skills and items that promote Dust collection...but most of them require at least a little foresight. I don't think it's a huge issue, but some players may disagree.

There's also one enemy that really doesn't work well with the game's mechanics. It has a chance to spawn in later rooms where it mutates into a powerfully "tanky" and immobile monster. Although it doesn't pose an immediate threat to your heroes, it must be killed for the game to consider the wave ended. As a result you'll frequently have situations where everything's dead except for one (or more) of these things, they've already grown into their final form, and now you've got your heroes on rotation, taking turns whittling its health down and stepping out of the room to heal. Alternatively, you've got to break defenses and rush out to kill them as quickly as possible...but then your (wounded) hero has to kite the inevitable horde of angry creatures back to a powered room and hope it doesn't overwhelm them. Neither scenario really adds anything to the game.

For the most part, though, Amplitude--a company known for approaching things a little differently--really delivered on Dungeon of the Endless. It's not a perfect recipe but it's incredibly novel and, between the variety of unique heroes, loot, modules, and "ships" (game modes), there's a significant degree of replayability in a compact package. The average player will find it to be thoroughly challenging while rarely feeling cheap or unfair.

Then again, the RNG is not always forgiving.

An imperfect game when it comes to balance but extremely user-friendly when it comes to interface aside from a few choices, like it doesn't seem to actually save hero groups like the keybinding screen suggests it can. The pixelart is gorgeous, the enemies are brutal. My number one nitpick is probably that it doesn't really give an indicator of the strength of the enemies that will spawn so it feels largely random whether you kill them or not.

I don't usually write reviews unless it really manages to push me over the "meh this game doesn't deserve a review cause the satisfaction it gave me is meh".

This game managed to push me over that barrier.

If you like resource managment but allows you to play at your own pace, grab this game. Also its pretty deep in gameplay with different characters and unlocking different ships, which I'm really looking forward to... (not really cause I'm going to fail my finals cause of this game...)

This game is a ♥♥♥♥ing struggle, an endless struggle. But it's a really good game and I like it better than FTL since the game is less relliant on rng and more on 'make the best out of the worst situation'. I say this because this game is backbreaking hard. We play hard games because theres more satisfaction in beating them, easy games are boring. But i've been playing for hours trying to get past the fourth floor and there is only two difficulties 'too easy' and 'easy'. This pretty much translates to 'easy' and 'prepare to die'. Great game once again, it's really cheap on steam now. I heard there isn't much difference between pixel edition and crystal edition so spare yourself the money.

8/10 Great.

Great game that offers tons of replayability. The math based hero TD offers tons of risk vs rewards that make for some pretty tense dungeon crawking. Will be playing this for the forseable future.. :)

Don't buy if you don't have atleast one friend to play with. If you do have atleast one friend, it's an amazing game.

Constant disconnections in multiplayer, and no way to save it means you'll never get past level 2 in co-op.

Game has been out for 2 years and still crashes in multiplayer. which completely ruins any chance of having a good run with friends if thats what you want to do.

This game looked like it had a lot of promise, but after playing it for a while the curtain has been pulled back for me, and I'd have a hard time recommending it as a result. It's perfectly fun for the first few floors, and then the game starts pulling out things just to limit what you can do. Want to put turrets leading up to your main defenses? Have enemies that attack and destroy them, wasting your resources. Want, or have to put the big modules in places outside of a dead end? There's enemies that will attack them, too, and are strong enough to blow them up in a couple hits, wasting a lot of your resources. You can't repair that damage unless you have someone with the repair skill, and it seems pretty often you'll have a party that doesn't contain one of those people.

If you have a good enough set-up to get past those, the game will also start throwing in monsters that will smash open doors, which can spawn more waves, quickly forming a no-win scenario. If that monster is going for a door in an unpowered room (something that becomes more and more common as you progress, since you receive less and less Dust every floor), you'll need to send a hero in to kill it. Don't have one that's capable of doing that without getting killed by monsters that target them? Tough.

Better hope you get one if you get up to the later floors, because another enemy appears that only spawns in unpowered rooms. It's stationary, but is quite strong, and will make enemies on that floor stronger, and since it's an enemy you need to get rid of it to actually get the after-combat regen. It's easy to kill when it first appears, but since it does along with other monsters in a wave, you again need someone who can run in and kill it quickly without dying themselves.

You have your pick of two heroes at the start of the game, but it feels like no matter what you'll have some hole the game can exploit, which you need to rely on what heroes you'll encounter to fill. Since some are just straight up better than others, due to Repair and Operate being so important, it can be quite annoying to run into a combat hero when you need another person with those skills, or someone squishy when you needed someone else to work a choke point. Lots of Tower Defense games have dangerous enemies, but I found the ones in this game brought it down a lot.

I've played several games with my mates and we've had such a great time. Our enjoyment diminished quickly however, when we encountered the terrible issues in the multiplayer system Amplitude Studios have implemented. You seriously can't rejoin the multiplayer match if you disconnect from the game, which can happen at any time. There is some serious polish missing that doesn't seem to be on the developers minds. I've read forum posts and dev updates that acknowledged the multiplayer as far back as in 2013 and there still isn't a fix in place. I'm very concerned that the developers haven't been able, or just avoided solving this very important issue. It's the only reason why I'm not recommending this game.

The rest of the game is just a blast to play, but is ruined by the fact that your progress can be ruined at any time after doing a run for over 3 hours. Just disappointing

Fun game overall, love the idea and gamestyle but let me tell you something, this game is buggy like hell. My friends and I were on the last floor of the first ship (Floor 13) and we were about to beat it until all of a sudden everything paused and no one was moving but us. None of the enemies were moving, they werent dying but just standing still, until a few seconds later,I tried saving and exiting the game so I can restart it but it wouldnt let me either, then I died for some reason and then the enemies were moving finally but the two of my friends were still alive so I told them to quickly get the crystal and go to the exit. After getting the crystal and arriving almost at the exit they go into the exit, both of them of course (again to remind you I died) and they tried placing the crystal and it wouldn't do it and thus they died because of this stupid bug. Also this one time my same friends plus one more to make four people were playing and we were on floor 11 and once we moved onto floor 12, we spawned in..... but only three and my friend couldnt join back and we tried saving the game and restarting the save file but they were just dead suddenly. This game is great overall, in fact I love it but there some things that need to be worked out and troubleshooted, We hope in the future that this game is well formatted and ready to play without any problems so my friends and I could enjoy the gameplay for hours and hours again. Great game though, please fix bugs

Thank You,

Big fan, TwistedLyric
