Banished 1.0.3

20 Juni 2014

Banished 1.0.3 just went live.

Changelist:

  • Fixed a potential crash that could occur if two buildings overlapped.
  • Fixed splitting or emptying herds from pastures. This will no longer cause small pastures to become overfull.
  • Added an option to set the scale of status icons. This is useful in ultra wide resolutions where the icons become large.
  • Fixed a bug that caused large population cities to randomly unassign workers.
  • Fixed a pause/lag that would occur as the game reassigned workers to new professions.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed the edges of tunnels to overlap other buildings.
  • Fixed an infinite loop that occured using the path tool when a citizen couldn’t get from home to a workplace.
  • Citizens without a workplace will once again do any job on the map. Citizens that have jobs will generally still stay near their workplace unless work to be done has been around for several months and no general laborer has done it.

    Laborer Update...

    31 Maj 2014

I’ve been working on a mod kit for the game, however as many people have pointed out, laborers are waiting a long time to walk long distances in the current build (1.0.2), so I decided to start some fixes for version 1.0.3 sooner rather than later.

In this new beta build, laborers don’t have any constraints on when they’ll go to do work or how far away it is. However, all other professions will still stick closer to their home and job unless a job is fairly old and no laborer has done it.

You can opt into the BETA on steam by right clicking on the game in your library and picking properties, then BETAs and then picking the 1.0.3 beta.

I’d love to hear some feedback on this change, or if you think other professions need tweaking for how long they take to do a job not in their own profession if it’s far away. The idea is to keep farmers, tailors, etc from walking across the map needlessly to pick up a single item so they get back to work quickly should work become available.

    Thanks!

    Om spelet

In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland.

The townspeople of Banished are your primary resource. They are born, grow older, work, have children of their own, and eventually die. Keeping them healthy, happy, and well-fed are essential to making your town grow. Building new homes is not enough—there must be enough people to move in and have families of their own.

Banished has no skill trees. Any structure can be built at any time, provided that your people have collected the resources to do so. There is no money. Instead, your hard-earned resources can be bartered away with the arrival of trade vessels. These merchants are the key to adding livestock and annual crops to the townspeople’s diet; however, their lengthy trade route comes with the risk of bringing illnesses from abroad.

There are twenty different occupations that the people in the city can perform from farming, hunting, and blacksmithing, to mining, teaching, and healing. No single strategy will succeed for every town. Some resources may be more scarce from one map to the next. The player can choose to replant forests, mine for iron, and quarry for rock, but all these choices require setting aside space into which you cannot expand.

The success or failure of a town depends on the appropriate management of risks and resources.

Banished is what many city/village building games wish they could be when they grow up. No barbarians screaming at the gates, not a zombie in sight, just good solid building with intelligent villagers, clever mechanics, and thoughtful details. It's easy, it's relaxing, it's soothing. Until the realities of colony life bite you in the backside! Banished is addictive. :D

Banished is an amazingly fun and intense game. Some people have described it as being "zen" to which I disagree to a point. It gives the illusion of being peaceful, until it stabs you in the back. The game is stressful, the game is hard, the game will make you laugh and it will make you cry. You will build up a large, bustling, seemingly succesfull town only for a small disaster to bring your whole population to it's knees. But when you do succeed, it is oh so satisfying.

This is the city builder you've been waiting for.

Remember when you paid $60 for Simcity and EA kicked you in the junk? This is the exact opposite of that. Banished is a city builder in its purest form.

You start with the minimal needed to begin your soon-to-be expansive town. The basics are pretty simple to grasp -- keep your people warm and fed, give them a place to live, and make sure they have tools to survive. It's much harder and more challenging than it sounds, but it is also extremely rewarding once you've got a thriving town. Don't think it will last long though! There's a population to grow, more land to settle, the occasional disaster, a trading-post to manage, and the ever-present feeling that you could be doing better if you just did one or two things differently an hour ago... but that's what the next game is for... and then there's the *hard* difficulty.

And yes, I helped test the game (for almost 40 hours), but I had so much fun that I will be playing at least 40 more. Luke did an amazing job with Banished! Congrats!

I love this game, it's a city builder game made by only one guy.
Even though there are no wars or attackers there are several ways to die, mostly to starvation or them freezing to death.
The creator (Luke) said he would take a day or two off and then on to bugfixing and work on a modkit to the game, making users able to mod the game, and the possibilities are endless.
    Things NOT to expect.
It's NOT an action game, it's casual and slow going (you can speed it up).
It's NOT a multiplayer game (And probably never will be, he made the engine for the game himself, with singleplayer in mind).
It's NOT a triple A game (that being said it's worth the money if you like good indie games).

Now thats over i can say i love the game, and gonna put alot of time in it im sure.

    Update to this:
It's been a week now and i just made 100% Achievements in this game and i STILL love it.

There is i must say some bugs, and it's a little laggy once you got the town to big, it's easy to see if you scroll around the map with the time on 10x with a population of 1k+.
Also once you get a big town there are some problems with people dieing of starvation even with more then 150k food in storage, simply because they can't get back to the house they live in fast enuff to eat and won't eat on the way in other houses, or marketplaces or anywhere.
Im sure thats gonna be fixed, but he's one guy so might take some time.

But even with those bugs it's well worth it to get the game, i would have paid 30$ for the game and still not feel screwed..
