Hi everyone!

I wanted to take a moment and talk about the current state of SpeedRunners and where it's going in the coming months.

Most important thing - upcoming level changes to classic levels!

Tokyo Game Show

Casper just took off to Tokyo to showoff SpeedRunners as part of Sense of Wondernight. I hear he has some T-Shirts with him :)

EGX Rezzed

Part of the team is going to London next week to showcase SpeedRunners at EGX Rezzed. We will continue doing the tinyQuest there, so make sure to collect ALL THE CARDS!

October Lets Player Update Inbound

The artistic part of the team is now working on a Lets Player character pack. During PAX Prime we teamed up with Polaris to get Youtube celebrities to play SpeedRunners together, and we are getting them into the game as characters. The idea is that we want to raise money for cancer research, in light of my cancer fight 10 years ago, and TotalBiscuit's recent encounter. Screw cancer!

r31 still in testing

We're still holding off releasing r31. The $6.5k Gfinity Cup is still on-going and it feels very bad to accidentally break the game during arguably our kickstart into the E-Sports scene.

New developer on the DoubleDutch team!

The DoubleDutch Team has a new full-time developer on board! Wouter is now working on something Casper came up with during Gamescom - flipped gravity volumes. So you can drop a volume in the level editor that flips the gravity.

This bring the total team to 6 people.

Casper - game & level design
Gert-Jan - everything code, network & magic related
Wouter - more code
Alex (me) - production/marketing
Tom - character design, animation
Matthijs - 3D animation (newest characters are animated in 3D and exported to 2D sprites)

We're also working on a deal with an external 2D animation studio to speed up the process with new characters. Right now the plan is for the Lets Player Youtube Pack to be a separate thing you buy and we donate the proceeds from that to charity. In regards to actual in-game characters - we are still debating how that gets into the game.

r31 now in beta branch, help us test

Hey everyone

We just set the rolled-back r31 update live on the beta branch of SpeedRunners

You can help us test it by enabling the beta branch, like this:



Right click on SpeedRunners
Select "Properties"
Go to "Betas" tab
Out of the dropdown, select the r31 beta

Please submit your feedback and find people to play with in this thread, so we have a central place:

For everyone wondering what happened - we had to rollback r31 due to some unexpected gameplay breaking bugs introduced with fixing lots of back-end stuff. And now that there is the Gfinity tournament going on (see PewDiePie's video), it's important that updates don't introduce game breaking bugs. Especially when it's the first SpeedRunners tournament with prizes.

We did our best to test internally, and now need your help!

In a city filled with superheroes, getting to crimes becomes a competition on its own. Fortunately there are enough rockets, bombs, grappling hooks, spikes, and other goodies lying around -- to make the competition fun and fast. Welcome to SpeedRunners.

SpeedRunners is a 4 player competitive platformer with grappling hooks, power-ups, and interactive environments. Run, jump, swing around, fire rockets, grapple onto people to knock them off screen.

超級有趣的四人道具競賽!!!
簡單來說就是要在封閉的賽道內,透過逐一刷掉「最後一名」直到只剩一名玩家時他便贏得那一盤(率先贏三盤者獲勝)
還有各式例如反轉賽道、限定單一道具、火箭雨......等特殊模式


因為還在early-access的緣故,道具種類和官方地圖還不夠齊全
非常期待它日後的發展 XDD

Let me preface this with the following: SpeedRunners is worth all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into the 10 dollars earned for buying this terriffic game.

SpeedRunners is a god damned anomaly, being in Early Access has not hindered this game's meaningfullness as a medium for entertainment and competitiveness. SpeedRunners features some really balanced gameplay, your skill is your skill, nothing else is the determining factor for success. You will run, jump, slide, and grapple your way through a series of levels, designed by mere mortals, as if they were designed my gods.

The only downside of this otherwise shining example of video game excellence, is the gosh darned lag! Lag can sometimes mess up an entire match, however, lately the net code has been polished to a shine, and is suitable for those who can't afford the highest internet.

Overall, I would give SpeedRunners a 9/10, it's fun, it's competitive, and it's everything you want it to be.

A creatively imagined multiplayer game. A surprisingly pleasant alternative to the brawler-type of multiplayer that has become so commonplace (e.g. samurai gunn, starwal, towerfall, bit-brawlers, brawlhalla, etc...), SpeedRunners offers players a spectrum of depth in gameplay. At its base, this game is a racing platformer, rewarding players who learn the turns and obstacles of various unique levels while punishing those who make mistakes. Perfectionism at its finest. This fine work does offer a deeper level of competition, however, if players chooses to exploit the nuances of the game's physics. With the mention of the glory of this game, I must also point out the negatives, which are frustratingly apparent within the first 5 minutes of gameplay. The matchmaking system is extremely unreliable, despite the implementation of a ranking system (albeit new). There are constant bugs in just about any multiplayer game, which would be endurable in a more forgiving game. The glitches can be brutal, and, due to the competitive nature of this game, they do not come off as humorous as in other games. At the rate at which this game has improved recently and with the massive community of stakeholders which it has garnered, SpeedRunners, while still in Beta at the moment of this review, will doubtlessly become one of the flawless go-to's for just about any friendly LAN party and competitive tournament. Each complaint I have for this game is tied to a problem that any early access game would have, and they are no reason to avoid a purchase. Currently an 8 / 10, this game is an easy pick-up and a difficult put-down!

Сказать честно я далеко не фанат инди игр,и когда я услышал впервые про эту игру я отнесся холодно(ну типа:ааааа,да это небось очередная фигня выполненная в пиксельном стиле,которых в стиме расплодилось очень много.Но когда я пришел к другу мы только в нее и играли.Игра не знаю какого жанры назову ее Бегалка :3.Цель в этой игре сделать так чтобы твой противник ушел за угол экрана и проиграл.когда это происходит тебе с 2 оставшимися соперниками(обычно их столько)придется убегать от экрана который с временем сужается.Карт около 10(может больше),бегунов 5.При этом на уровне попадаются различные бонусы,что может ни раз вас спасти!В общем отличная игра(кстати выполнена в 2-d стиле)(это значит,что сама игра в 3-d вы бежите по плоскоси 2-d,а взади фон!Моя оценка 6.5 баллов из 10!
