Om spelet

Craft The World is a unique sandbox strategy game, the mix of Dungeon Keeper, Terraria and Dwarf Fortress.
Explore a random generated world populated by dangerous creatures, build a dwarf fortress, gather resources, and craft all the items, weapons, and armor you need.

GOD-SIMULATION
You control a tribe of dwarves by giving them commands to dig in certain places, attack enemy creatures, and build houses and other structures. You'll need to provide your dwarves food and clothing, as well as help them with magic when fighting against other inhabitants of the world. You start the game with one dwarf and gain additional dwarves as your experience level increases.

SANDBOX GAME
Each game level has many layers of earth to explore, from the sky down to boiling subterranean lava. The level is randomly generated as an island, restricted by natural boundaries: oceans on the edges, lava beneath it, and the sky above. Other features include day and night and changing weather conditions. The worlds differ in size, humidity, temperature, terrain, and flora and fauna. Abandoned halls and rooms with treasure are hidden somewhere deep within the islands.

CRAFTING
One feature of the game is a user-friendly system of recipes for crafting. The recipes are organized and easily accessible. You can craft dozens of different items: building blocks for houses, furniture, decorations, weapons, armor, ammunition, and food for your dwarves.

RTS
At the outset you find the recipes for basic tools and items, and build a small house with places to sleep and eat. Then, the size of the tribe increases and catches the attention of other inhabitants of the world. Most of them are night creatures and dwell underground. The worlds are full of fantasy creatures like zombies, skeletons, goblins, beholders, ghosts, giant spiders, and others. Some of them pay little attention to the dwarves, as long as the dwarves do not come into their field of vision. Others gather into quite large groups and try to break into the dwarves’ residence.

TOWER DEFENSE
Especially dangerous are the waves of monsters that appear from time to time from portals. So, do not neglect to build a safe haven with strong walls and numerous trapdoors, cells, firing towers, and secret passageways.

MAGIC
As a divine being, you possess various spells. You can speed up the movement of the dwarves, open small portals, illuminate dark caves to scare away monsters, evoke natural magic in the form of rain or tree growth, hurl fireballs at the monsters’ heads, and find useful resources and hidden rooms underground, thereby helping to speed up resource extraction, exploration of the world, and the population growth of your assistants.

I am going to add a weak "not recommended" review, though I should be clear that that applies to the game's current state -- there is a ton of potential here, but due to some questionable design decisions I don't know if that potential will ever be realized. For reference, some of my favorite games are Gnomoria and Dwarf Fortress, though I did enjoy Terraria a lot.

First the good:
* Cute art and adorable dwarves.
* Detailed and interesting world design, though with very limited ecology.
* Deep and varied tech tree.
* Solid-seeming tech foundation for a builder/sim game.
* Ant farm full of dwarves!

The bad:
* Terrible user interface:
* tons of superfluous click-and-drag for crafting -- it gives you the recipe but you still have to click and drag into a grid. Maybe for the first time but subsequently producing an item should be easy. Few games make me long for DF's UI.
* generally lacking polish -- highlighting items won't tell you what they are, meaning you spend time guessing what an icon/sprite means. You cannot speedup time and the game proceeds at a glacial pace, a 2/4/8x bar would be nice, especially in early game.
* obnoxious leveling system -- this is by far the worst part of the game. You don't tech up by building structures, doing research, etc, nor is the entire tech tree available ala Banished -- you tech up in two ways. By crafting 10 ladders you don't need so you can make torches, etc, and by "unlocking" recipes that are "locked" by earning XP -- yes, a builder game with XP grinding, like some casual Facebook game. this mechanic might be able to be kept in if improved, but as it stands it just makes the early game a boring, frustrating clickfest. And the game pauses while crafting, which compounds the already slow speed.

I know these sound like minor complaints, but taken together they really ruin what could be an enjoyable experience. This game has solid technical design and ideas, but I'm not sure where the authors are going with it; the concerns I mention raise alarm bells, for me at least.

I still got some enjoyment out of the game (not done playing yet), and it might be worth picking up on sale, but I really can't advise paying $15 in the current state. Maybe once the dev gets further along or the price drops.

One of the most fun(*) and enjoyable game I played since a few years. It involves lots of dwarves mining, crafting, drinking and striking the earth together. Good replayability and different challenges depending of the world you are in. Example : ice world => no apple, need to thaw the snow and ice to get water, snow falls recovering the lands and buildings, farming underground...
One of the most finished game available for early access. Regular and numerous updates and bugfixes.

* : you know Dwarf Fortress' definition of fun, don't you ?

I thought it was surprisingly good. at first, I thought "egh... another one of these huh?" the good reviews though seemed to work in favor of the game, so seeing as it was on sale I grabbed it. what ensued was four hours of exploring a decent new game and gawking at what looks like some fairly "bleh" graphics from a distance, but are actually rather nice graphics when you actually look at them up close. the update log for the game shows updates being a fairly regular thing, meaning fixes for bugs (I only saw one bug and that one crashed the game) and new content could be always just around the corner. the game is also surprisingly well polished for an early release game. in my mind I see the devs saying "yeah, its good as it is, but it can be better."

This game deserves to be looked at. Made by a russian developer, this game doesn't fall short.

Pro:
+ updates, Updates, UPDATES! This developer stands for early access, this game never laggs behind and delivers new content on a very common basis.
+ Gameplay: this game is morelike, you give orders, and somedwarf will do it. If you dig for this "indirect commanding" this is your thing... if not... take controll of the dwarf and do it yourself.
+ Progression: there are many things to achieve, enough to build and enough to kill.
+ "Settler-effect": you can see those little dwarfs running around your monitor, and watch them doing the housework.

Neutral:
* Grafics: it's a matter of taste, if you love this tableski style of game, alright, if you want battlefield-4-grafic's engine... well, tough luck
* Progression: You can't craft everything "right away" you need to, build enough of the previous items in the "itemlist"... it's not for everyone's taste.
* Sound: also matter of taste, I switched off both right away (snoring dwarfs... snoring dwarfs everywhere)

Negative:
- routing and object-retrieving: it's still not very polished, right now. Still some issues with the "item-grabbing" from far away. You can't tell a dwarf to "pick something" up.... he has to do it himself.
- no defined jobs: While now dwarfs have skills, it's still not save to give a attack order, and believing, just melee dwarfs (or archers), will get to it. No, gueriilia-style. You can loose your best miner/workshoper, when he fails to retrait.
- skills are only gained, if they know the basics. They CAN use the item (cooking-base, while no cook is around), but won't gain any skills; while a cook would get some. New skills can only be unlocked with books. There are pretty rare.

Overall: Solid game, worth the money and effort. If you are not sure, wait for the next sale to come up. I recomment it fully!

Feels Like a Freemium game on IOS/Android. A lot of this game was designed to waste your time. I know it's still early access but some stuff just makes no sense as to why the DEVS chose to make those choices.

Crafting is a ton of click and drag. You can't just auto make something if you have resources. The least they could do is let us drag a stack so we can put the mats in quicker the way minecraft does. Instead you can only move ONE SINGLE item to its slot.

Dwarves are randomly selected by the game to do a task. Rather then the dwarf with the cook skill running over to cook. The dwarf with the carpenter skill runs over to cook instead.

You have to make a TON of useless items BEFORE you even get access to the items you actually NEED. The crafting tree doesn't let you actually focus on just the tools path. You have to learn how to make walls, lights, furniture, food, glass, materials, wooden armor all before you can even use the steel ingot that the tree gives you access too. You'll be mining silver and gold with an iron axe BEFORE you are using a steel pickaxe. The crafting tree just needs major overhauling.

A SINGLE replacement dwarf takes 5 minutes.

A SINGLE Mana point takes 5 minutes to replinish. So if you used up all 60 points of mana. It'll take SIX HOURS real world time to fill back up fully. The only way to make it go faster is if you level up. Then it fills completly. This is a freemium game mechanic. Designed to make you want to buy mana refills for real world money.

Can't move your starting stockpile. So its totally exposed and you have no way of really making a shelter before night fall. Just not happening. Ghosts will be upon you way before then. Also you won't be able to make any doors to use for your shelter until you travel the Civilization like crafting tree which limits you heavily in the early game.

Your "inventory" is horrid cluttered. You have to sift through tons of useless stuff to find what you are looking for. Instead of going to the section that only shows the lighting. You go to the section that has the lights, armor, tools, traps, walls,.

Can't sell your items. Once you upgrade your gear you end up with all this old gear that you can't do anything with.

Have to cycle through your dwarves in order to find the one you are looking for rather then just pull down a menu that you can look at and quickly find the dwarf you are looking for.

Hopefully all this will change. Spend so much resources collecting. Some items take a ton of mats to make. And there are just so many useless items and some items that make no sense. The game has you have to make a fishing pole to fish. After you make one then everyone can freely use it. So why have to craft it at all? Why not just let them fish automatically. You don't even need to equip it. Same with the buckets.

Dwarves move horrid slow. And they have to travel back and forth. You can use a portal but for somereason when they use it the timer on it speeds up. So rather then be actually open for 4 minutes. It ends up only open for like 2 minutes from the constant use.

Despite it being Early Access, there's a lot more game here than many finished products. There's still some very rough edges in so much as the game needs the option of relocating stockpiles to avoid dorfmassacre, and there needs to be some kind of "lose" condition. But considering this is an "alpha" game, it shows -massive- promise, and I hope the devs will take it all the way to being a stellar product.
