This is a pretty tough one to judge. Let me first say that I usually tend to like abstract games, as well as had a few good "walking simulators". However, I don't find Kairo to be one of them.

On the question of whether games can be art, Kairo certainly makes a solid case for a 'yes'. Within the individual levels, there is certainly a sort of surrealistic atmosphere that remains intact despite the used engine (I think unrealED 2.0) itself being pretty outdated at this time.
However, my gripe is mostly that this theme isn't consistent between levels. There is no natural progression or any overarching sentiment that ties the levels together. Each and every one could have been the first, somewhere in the middle or the last one.

And while the atmosphere is okay (even good), the puzzle aspects feel tacked on and added "because it's expected". They are rudimentary dabblings that IMHO doesn't add much. I had no fun in solving them (or attempting to), and frankly found myself bored more than intrigued.

So...end result: perhaps get this if you just want to watch some interesting minimalistic design. But to be honest, that's exactly what the trailers already provide. :\

I'm all for "Walking Simulators" but there really was nothing interesting to this. I just walked around for 20 minutes going room to room without finding/seeing anything interesting. There wasnt anything to indicate why I was there or where I was going until I just got bored and closed the game.

I dont think this qualifies as a game.It is more like tech demo for an old and bad engine.

When you boot the game up,you are greeted with SPECTACULAR controls.Whoever made this game thought it was a good idea to apply smoothing to CONTROLS.And thank god i realized that you can turn it off at least for mouse.You had one job as a walking simulator:BEING ABLE TO WALK.This must be someones first game or something,and it is good AS SOMEONE'S FIRST GAME,but its pretty sh*t as a real game.

Then we got the textures and oh boy,arent they sh*t.Textures 101:DO NOT CREATE A WALL WİTH ONLY THE SAME TEXTURE.HAVE VARIATION.Also polygons.You need 'em.

And we get to the "story":This is why i called this game a tech demo rather than a game.If you remove every text from a game,there will be NO ROOM FOR STORY.

Oh and puzzles arent great.

And you are trying to be "atmospheric" ,huh?
-No graphics
-No controls
-No story.
How were you planning to be atmospheric again?At least have one of them.

P.S. Remove the cheap grain effect before saying i was wrong about the graphics.That effect is the cheapest trick i have ever seen so far.And there it is,after being thru at least 50 of this type,the first time i actually used "I Do not recommend "button.

TL;DR :
-Worst controls.
-Motion sickness.
-GldSrc engine level graphics.
-♥♥♥♥♥ier textures.
+Decent music.
Down it with beer.

3/10 : A badly made half-life mod.(With fitting music tho.)

Wow, coooooollll... far out man!
Yeah, I bought this game, played around with it, and enjoyed exploring the spaces within. I didn't get very far, I just wanted to look at it. I'm satisfied with it. You can actually try to complete the game if you want, but... it's all good, man.

Chill environment including sounds/music, challenging puzzles that vary so you aren't constantly doing the same thing, some trippy environments.

I really enjoyed this game. Felt original and is definitely worth the price point.

Kairo is as simple as it gets. It is an artsy, abstract and super minimalist walking simulator. And, as such, I think it excel, as it is always throwing at you new kind of imagery, puzzle and scenery. At no point I found Kairo to be lazy, reusing too often room design. I recommend using a guide though. Due to the minimalistic approch of the game, some puzzle are very cryptic.

If the idea of walking through monochrome rooms of block, sphere and triangle while engulfing deeply into your own though and emotion, you will like this game. My advice is to surrender yourself to Kairo and let every bit of creativity sink in without looking for a finite explanation of what is happening around you.

I haven't seen much about these points yet, I'm just adding to others' reviews.

This one's about solving some puzzles in a hyper dimensional alien space to turn some machines on after the apocalypse.
Graphical design is going for minimalistic abstract representation of stone buildings, so I'm certain there's less than 100 textures in the entire game. Explorable empty space is used to show importance of an object in the room, and over-saturated lighting is used almost randomly, but consistently through a room.
Sound design follows graphical design, and follows a theme of emptiness and alienation in an abstract world.
The physics and control are poor, but only because they are unnecessary for the gameplay.
Gameplay itself is puzzle solving in insolation, but the main story puzzles are simple. It's a small game that takes time to explore for 100% completion. The 100% content beyond the main story puzzles just involves finding hidden things and backtracking after hitting an obvious switch to find a matching shape somewhere.

After breaking it down like that, I think it'd make for a really nice modern art machinima.
As far as being a game, it can be depressing for a few reasons. That's why I recommend it.

开罗……奇幻的世界,就像一场梦,解密部分基本上没有任何提示,难度较大,卡关是常有的,不断尝试,不断探索,然后慢慢理解,也许这就是乐趣所在。

很不错的游戏,很考验观察分析与解密能力,全部场景都没有什么文字提示,完全靠玩家对现象的观察和分析。场景宏达且独特,很是壮观,哪怕不解密,探索一番也是很有趣味的。推荐!

这是一款恐怖解密游戏吧,最大的特点就是各种几何体和单色调的场景组成的魔幻视界,并且配合诡异玄幻的BGM有一种沉闷压抑的气氛,解密大多不是很难,注意那些符号和可操控单位被触碰时发出的声音就可以了,整个解密也没有什么故事性的剧情,就是一步步去发现更多的新奇事物,但是这种未知的处境和被团团的色块、几何体包围,时不时还会出现故意挡住你去路的“智能”墙、封锁你前进的冰冷的石块,都会让人有一种莫名的恐惧感,当我第一次跟那个走哪挡哪的墙纠结了一会以后..关掉了游戏。

简单的世界,复杂的探索,画面特效做得很好,音乐效果也很棒,谜一样的世界,游戏有点压抑,一个人玩还是比较怕的,这应该就是游戏的独特之处吧,推荐大家玩玩,这游戏值得一试,每一个地方都值得去探索:D
