More than a point and click game, but shorter than a traditional puzzle game, Mechinarium relies heavily on its stylized graphics to woo the player. The puzzles are less intuitive than most games, and the creators chose not to use “easy pixels” to highlight important items. This made Mechinarium more challenging than most. It was worth the effort. The story comes through near the end, and I’m glad I stuck with it. Be prepared to think outside the box.

I adore Amanita Design's games, this one is no exception.

Machinarium is a wonderful example of non-verbal story telling, telling a heart warming story through imagery and game mechanics. Sometimes the puzzles are a bit obtuse in a standard point 'n' click kind of way, so I will admit to looking up walkthroughs a couple of times but that might be my own failing.

I can't post much about the story without spoilers, so I'll just recommend that you get immersed in the wonderful visuals and try to play this in one sitting if you have the time because it's quite lovely.

Don't you ever say this is a kids' game.

Because it is not.

Machinarium, in fact, is a great standalone from Amanita Design, a game development studio I am very proud of being from the same country as I am. It's a point-and-click adventure game about Machinarium - an ancient city of robots. You take control of Joseph, a robot thrown out of the city and dumped for untold reasons, and you'll lead him trough hours of great drawing and animations, story great yet simply told and soundtrack that you just have to love and admire as he makes his way back to the top, rescues his "girlfriend" Bertha, saves the city and escapes from it.

Point-and-click adventures are highly relying on their story, yet this game doesn't feature a single line of text (exception to main menu and credits). Instead, it explains it with simple comics which appear in classical speech bubbles. This adds to a feeling of really being a robotic being that doesn't need any words to explain it's thoughts, even though I don't believe the creation such a feeling would be truly intentional in it's nature.

The gameplay is simple as well, featuring locations with several puzzles and riddles you need to complete in order to advance further trough the city and the story. However, they aren't in any way dumb or repetetive, and can provide several hours of fun for those who enjoy solving these. And if you don't, the game always has a helpful guide for the location you can unlock trough fulfilling a simple minigame.

The graphics and design are the most awesome things about this game, providing you with beautiful sceneries, impecable characters and detailed drawings of the city and it's parts all along your path to the top. The city looks industrial and mechanical, creating a kind of a depressing feeling, with rust and metal pipes everywhere. The graphics are a true art, and that is not a statment I make lightly. Same of course goes for the soundtrack, so get ready to stay looking at the scenery and listening to a music, balancing at the edge of falling into depression or starting maniacally laughing. The feel is something many "horror games" of today miss - and yet this game doesn't even have to try to achieve it.

So my recommendation is simple - Go for it.

I absolutely LOVE this game. It's charming and beautifully drawn with some fairly tough puzzles. I'm a big fan of Amanita Design, and this little game in particular is probably my favorite. If you enjoy point and click adventures, this is a must.

One of the best adventure games I've ever played. A very cute and detailed graphics using flash animation. The puzzles can be from simple to super complex. The storyline is told through actions and not through words, in fact the only dialogue resemble what adults sound like in the Snoopy cartoons. Follow the story of a robot searching for his lost girlfriend. Meet great characters along the way on this whimsical journey. This is great game, you won't be disappointed.

If you like point and click adventure games this is definitly worth playing.
The atmosphere and flow of the game is great. The story is good. The puzles aren't to hard, nor do they not make sense at time.
I got about 5 hours of gameplay.

A really pretty and charming point-and-click adventure with puzzles which are tough without just being stupid and illogical. The's hand-drawn steampunk art is really great to look at, and the thought bubbles instead of speech make for no reading in the entire game other than signs in-universe, and the hint system is pretty cool, giving first a basic hint then giving you a full solution after playing a minigame - however I'd still recommend using an online walkthrough as 1) the minigame is rather slow and 2) the minigame-like puzzles, however fun, will certainly get you stuck the most, and are not detailed in the in-game walkthrough.

It’s not often that a point and click adventure grabs my attention these days, in fact the only two that come to mind are Back to the Future and Finding Teddy, yet Machinarium had just the right charm to stand out amongst the masses and pull me in.

And it’s a good thing too, because without the adorable robot/steampunkish skin, the precious animations, and fantastic soundscape, Machinarium would just be another generic point and click puzzle game. The puzzles themselves were often convoluted and some just outright infuriated me when I found out what you had to do to solve them. If I had not been so invested in this adorable little robot and watching him move around this world my game time would have ended after about 45 minutes.

If you love what you see in the screenshots, and are not totally averse to the Point and Click genre then I think there’s a ton of enjoyment to be had with Machinarium. However, if you find this genre of game insufferable or don’t find the same charm in the art that I do, then steer clear because there’s nothing here that you’re not expecting.

Machinarium is a great buy for anyone that loved the classic point-and-click puzzle adventures from the golden age of Sierra. Dynamix, and Lucasarts.
If you are unfamiliar with adventure titles from that era, they are all share a similar formula: blend equal parts humour and puzzle mechanics, and place them into a well fleshed-out world full of interesting characters.

One of the things that attracted me to this game was it's charming art style. It's sort of like if H.R. Giger illustrated a children's book, and it lends the entire experience a very unique feel. You can tell that great care went into illustrating all of the game assets - check out the hand lettered typography on the title screen!
The narration is done entirely with visual cues, which further compliments the art direction.

There are a variety of puzzles that range from combining items, to order of operations style encounters, to traditional rubicks-cube style fare. Some puzzles suffer from issues that most solving games deal with, such as a hard to notice item - and how can you solve a puzzle when you dont have all of the tools you need?
Despite this downfall, the puzzles make a lot of sense and I never felt cheated by having to make an absurd leap of logic.

Like it's predecessors, Machinarium has a strong sense of humour and a lot of heart. The lawls tend to be delivered as visual gags, which are well served by the strong comic timing of the character animations. Even if a failed attempt at solving a puzzle isn't laugh out loud funny, it often bolsters the main character's sense of being an akward but lovable underdog.

In closing, I recommend Machinarium to anyone that is a fan of puzzles, comedy, or arts and animation. It's also a must play if you are a fan of the early adventures of Roger Wilco, or Guybrush Threepwood.

One of the best Point-and-Click Adventures ever. I love the hand-drawn artwork of every scene. But what I love about Machinarium is the storyline, it keeps you going and you just want to see what's in the next scene. Highly reccomended and a good game to play offline.

Machinarium is probably THE most enjoyable indie game I've ever played. Intriguing and clever puzzles in beautiful sceneries makes it one of the most laid back and fun puzzle games I've syumbled upon. The "personal touch"-feel makes the game even more breathtaking!

The best point and click game I've played to date.

In this weird and wonderful game you'll find yourself addicted and frustrated all the same especially when you don't have the slightest inkling how to solve some of the puzzles later on in the game. The Puzzles later in the game are pretty difficult but not impossible and it is very rewarding when you finally solve them.

The Artstyle and Soundtrack in this game are brilliant. The artstyle gives it a kind of dystopian and empty world feel but it is very unique and well done and the music will keep you playing for hours it's that good.

10/10 would play again.
