A little robot who’s been thrown out to the scrap yard behind the city must return and confront the Black Cap Brotherhood and save his robot-girl friend.
  • World: Machinarium world is populated only by robots of various forms and functions. One of the most interesting places in this world is old, rusty and legendary city of Machinarium where the game takes place
  • Story: You will have to get rid of wicked robots from the Black Cap Brotherhood and save the head of the city and also your robot-girl friend
  • Puzzles: You will be solving many logical puzzles, adventure quests, brain teasers and mini-games
  • Graphics: Backgrounds and characters are 2D hand-drawn and there is more then one hour of carefully crafted animations
  • Music: Beautiful original soundtrack was composed and recorded by Floex (Samorost2 OST)
  • Communication: You won't find any lengthy boring dialogs in this game, characters talk by comic bubbles with simple animations and symbols

More than a point and click game, but shorter than a traditional puzzle game, Mechinarium relies heavily on its stylized graphics to woo the player. The puzzles are less intuitive than most games, and the creators chose not to use “easy pixels” to highlight important items. This made Mechinarium more challenging than most. It was worth the effort. The story comes through near the end, and I’m glad I stuck with it. Be prepared to think outside the box.

I adore Amanita Design's games, this one is no exception.

Machinarium is a wonderful example of non-verbal story telling, telling a heart warming story through imagery and game mechanics. Sometimes the puzzles are a bit obtuse in a standard point 'n' click kind of way, so I will admit to looking up walkthroughs a couple of times but that might be my own failing.

I can't post much about the story without spoilers, so I'll just recommend that you get immersed in the wonderful visuals and try to play this in one sitting if you have the time because it's quite lovely.

I've played much more of this game on a friend's tablet, so don't think this review is limited to the short playtime I have logged on Steam. I'm severely neutral about this game, which is a shame given how enjoyable its atmoshpere is. It is a pretty game, with an interesting touch of characterization on your little gizmo. There are two reasons why I can't quite reccomend this game though, and while they don't make the game bad it definitely makes it worth less than the 10 USD price.

First is a more personal peeve, it's made to immitate old-school point and click adventures in that there's a thread of logic that usually makes sense in the game world but doesn't if the immersion is broken. That thread of how to progress can feel arbitrary, like the developers have contrived a reason why you can't just do a simple solution here, or why this device's switch is in a nigh-unaccesible alcove. And that adventure game logic has always peeved me, but it's perfectly fine so long as you're immersed.

Aaaaand that's the two of it: the immersion. This game has a great soundtrack and needs it, because the gameplay is far from enough to pull (in my experience) the player in. The tokenism and the obviously contrived puzzles are a big part of it, which encourages players to click around looking for what can and can't be used, but the other part is a bit more subtle. Your character's competency changes, and that always pulls me out of a game. Sometimes your character (Read: the game) will do something automatically that in a less-padded puzzle would have required you to hunt for an inventory item to do. So occasionally I'm looking for what I believe is the last piece and then when I can't find it just rub my inventory against itself and give birth to progress. That, or the gizmo guy can squeeze into or stretch to reach something that in a previous puzzle would not have been possible.

Two faults, yes, and two major ones that the 10 USD price cannot afford to have.

Nice art style but the game is made in Flash, it really should have been re-released using a proper game engine by now.

A really pretty and charming point-and-click adventure with puzzles which are tough without just being stupid and illogical. The's hand-drawn steampunk art is really great to look at, and the thought bubbles instead of speech make for no reading in the entire game other than signs in-universe, and the hint system is pretty cool, giving first a basic hint then giving you a full solution after playing a minigame - however I'd still recommend using an online walkthrough as 1) the minigame is rather slow and 2) the minigame-like puzzles, however fun, will certainly get you stuck the most, and are not detailed in the in-game walkthrough.

Beautiful, quaint artwork, paired with a nice soundtrack. I enjoyed the puzzles, which became more and more difficult as the game went on. For some of the puzzles, I had to resort to using their hints. That being said, the only thing I didn't like was that you have to play the mini-game each time you want to look at the hints, even if you've already played the mini-game to unlock a certain puzzle's hints; it became quite tedious.
Overall, Machinarium is a lovely point-and-click adventure game with a cute little storyline and characters and challenging puzzles!

A charming, if sometimes confusing, puzzle-adventure game about a robot on a quest to save his city. The point-and-click system could have benefited with a little more clarity what’s clickable and what isn’t, but once you get the hang of things it’s easier to figure that out. There’s a good mix of straight-up puzzles, logic games, and find/create the right item challenges. I used a fair amount of trial and error, but reaching the solutions was satisfying, and most of them made sense. (There is a hint system that’s available, but I ended up not using it because I’m stubborn.) In terms of story, there’s no dialogue in the game, but every now and then the characters will use thought bubbles with animated drawings to “talk” or recall background information. The art style reminds me of concept art - not polished, but instead focused on evoking feeling, and the soundtrack is written similarly. Overall it’s a very well crafted game best suited for players who are patient and want puzzles that make them think.

Im a huge fan of point and click adventure, I thorougly enjoyed this game as it reminded me of gamestyle I enjoyed most grwoing up. Graphics and sound/music is stunning, hoping to see more games from this developer. However i felt the end was lacking a bit, still definately worth playing

If you like point and click adventure games this is definitly worth playing.
The atmosphere and flow of the game is great. The story is good. The puzles aren't to hard, nor do they not make sense at time.
I got about 5 hours of gameplay.

Definitivelly recommended game. Interesting story without a line of dialogue. Everything is done trough animations and it's pretty obvious what game wants you to do.

But the puzzles, on the other hand, some of them border on intelligence test: someone will find them easy, some hard or even impossible.

Graphics are pretty good and suit the game perfectly altho it's a flash game.

Soundtrack is something worth paying extra. You do have a couple of songs in game files (.ogg if i'm not mistaken) which i listened to even when i finished the game. And i did it twice.

Story(potential spoiler) is about two robots who get separated and boy needs to find the girl. I think that's spoiler free.

Try it out, and i think you won't regret it.

One of the best point-and-click adventure games I've seen, along with Monkey Island series, The Longest Journey series, Syberia series, Broken Sword series, Discworld, Full Thortle, and Broken Age (I may have forgot some.). Brilliant art design and story, with a futuristic sci-fi touch. Definitely a must-play if you enjoy this genre...

Note: Do not make the mistake of comparing Machinarium with Botanicula or Samorost series (which are the other point-and-click adventures of Amanita Design), and coming to a conclusion about Machinarium. Trust me, they are as different as possible.
