“7 Days to Die is like Minecraft with Gravity. Building defenses with friends and huddling in the corner hoping no zombies get through can be great fun. But what keeps me coming back to the game is the TNT.”

this game is pretty good but the running animations for the wolves and other animals is a bit weird. it would be great to have a more suburban area and maybe a less country setting like maybe a few towns of larger size and a bit closer together would be nice

(This is my second review to ever write on steam so don't be on me like hounds on a porkchop!)
7 Days to Die is a game with great potential and gameplay. I first saw this game on youtube and was instantly in love with it because I love survival games. This game is definately worth the price and has come a long way as I have had it for two years. When I first bought this thirty dollar voxel game I instantly fell in love with the hardships and hardcore worlds. This game is pretty hard to master as the materials you need to collect now are much harder to get and food and water actually becomes an issue. These new updates have sparked my intrest in the game and I enjoy playing it from time to time when possible. I think this game could add in some fun and not just hardcore zombies chasing you for awhile or huge roaming hordes coming to kill you and destroy your base. But this game is 100% worth it especially for ten dollars. I love this game and other survival games like rust and ark survival evolved but 7 days to die is a fun open world zombie survival game that has come so far its hard to believe it. This game will supply you with hours of gameplay, raiding bases, gathering materials, and flat out killing zombies. The only con about 7 days to die is that it cannot be transfered from Steam to PS4 or Xbox One even though it was already purchased. Other than that I love this game and it has definately been worth the money to buy it and to all the noobs out there, Good Luck Survivng because this is harder than Dying Light Night at Night!

This game was fun. I absolutely loved it for a time. However, the updates eventually destroyed the game for me.

My PC can handle all my games just fine on the highest settings. This game, however, no longer even runs on my computer. Even after following troubleshooting guides and a ton of patches claiming to be stable, this game crashes upon loading in.

This game simply does not function as well as it used to.

It is honestly the best survival game there is due to its complex crafting possibilities and progression. When starting out you should probably start with some PVE in order to learn the natural flow regarding construction and item smithing. Only when you feel comfortable with the main mechanics you should join PVP servers.

Alright, this is one of my first reviews, so bear with me.

7 Days to Die is, as advertised, a survival game with hordes of zombies every seven nights. If you ever get bored in-between then, just visit your local Pass-n-Gass and enjoy decapitating the rotting meatsacks. Anyhow, let’s get down to business:
Gameplay
Well, to start, it’s a pretty solid game, really. You spawn in a world, no skills, no equipment, and are forced to figure out how to survive in 7 nights when a horde of angry reanimated corpses comes to rip your face off. You create some simple tools and harvest resources, usually wandering around for a while to find a suitable place to live, collecting flowers, rocks, and cotton as you go on. You can use all of these to your advantage, making teas, dyes, and clothes. Oh, did I mention you spawn in boxers?

Yep.
It’s pretty normal to be caught with your pants down by zombies. Who knew the apocalypse was gonna be on a Monday?

Anyway, after finding a nice place to build a fort, or hijacking a pre-fab generated by the game (you lazy sack of plant fibers), you can start to make progress. Every action you do in the game gives you experience. After enough experience, you level up, giving you skill points to put towards skills to increase your advantage against the ravenous horde currently calling dibs on certain portions of your body. These points can, for instance, be used to increase your crafting skill or mining skill, or saved for later, more beneficial upgrades.
When you’re not starving or thirsting to death, you’re usually looting for nifty items or parts for other crafting tools, like pipes for a furnace. In most cases, you find turds, paper, or just your usual aviator goggles. (I have actually found more of these than I care to recall. They are not useful in any way except for wearing. More pipes, please!) That’s in addition to hungry zombies, who again, want to rip your face off. Occasionally you stroll up on a tool shop or book store and find some really good loot. Really, it’s more often than not, but you get unlucky sometimes. In essence, cities are your best bet for good loot and loads of zombies.

Mining and hunting also come into play when you’re finally trying to make a forge. It’s harder than you think. Now, back in the earlier Alphas, it was just some rocks and clay. Then, you put in what you want, click on what you want back, and bam: materials. However, in the recent updates, it is extremely tedious. First, you need a Bellows. This is made by 1 Pipe, 20 Animal Hides, and 8 Wood. So you need to have found at least one pipe and killed at least 3 animals to even attempt to make a forge. So, for the forge now, it requires the bellows you made, 50 stones, another pipe, and 50 clay. Now, you have at least had to find 2 pipes. When I say these suckers are a pain in the ♥♥♥ to come by, I mean it. Maybe not so much in Singleplayer, but in Multiplayer, when 75% of everything you look at is looted; it’s a pain in the ♥♥♥. Back to mining: you need to do this every other day to maintain a steady supply of materials, because they go fast the first time you’re making tools and structures.
Even though the forge is hard to come by, it is a wondrous tool. Once you learn Steel Smithing from the skill menu, everything gets a little easier.

Oh, right, I left out the horde that comes on night 7 to rip your limbs off. About half of the previous comes after night 7, depending on what you have your timescale set to. When night 7 comes, the horde is immediately running to your location to kill you. If you die during that night, you will respawn a ways away from your base/last location, so it’s a good idea to mark with a waypoint where you’re staying that night. The best thing is to wait for morning and kill the horde off. Zombies are much easier to aim at when they’re not running around dodging your axe swings or arrows in the dark.

I probably left some things out, but I'm probably killing your eyes too, so I’ll wrap this next section up quickly.

Mechanics
  • To start, it's a voxel game, so there's that. There is no lawn mower, so your fists have to make due. The only way you can flatten a piece of land is to remove the grass/stones/whatever and place wood frames over it. When you place down dirt yourself, its automatically flat. If that was any other way, I would probably eat my hat.

  • When building structures, you have to be very cautious about supporting the floors. Big rooms require pillars for support underneath, so when starting out, build small. 9x9 is a good starting base, leaving 7x7 in the interior when the walls come in. When you know your going to want a basement floor or two, I've found that digging that out and building it up from there is the best method. Digging underneath your current house (with everything you've achieved staring down at you) and supporting it as you go isn't exactly my type of relaxation.

  • Traps and exterior walls prove an effective way to keep zombies from reaching you. Traps include wood log spikes (upgradeable), normal wood spikes (which break down after some time), and barbed wire. Concrete walls with wood log spikes and some type of net (iron bars) to keep spider zombies from crawling up your walls seem to be a great way to protect your home. When building your home in the plains or somewhere temperate, it’s a good idea to use iron bars for windows and metal trussing for the corners on the window layer. Both of these items you can shoot through. Also, too many furnaces/fires running at once seems to lure in screamers to scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of you. And spawn a horde, I guess. Mainly the change of pants is the worst.
(This is starting to sound more like a guide than a review, but I want it to explain about the game in depth, so.)

  • Crafting is smooth, simple, and effective. You get a menu with a list of items you can craft, and no grid. Sub-categories help when looking to craft for experience. That's really all I can say.

Now, for the ONLY Con of the game:

(EDIT: (6/13/16) I find that this factor of the game is becoming increasingly cumbersome. I would really love to play this game on high settings, but due to this issue, I cannot. It is not my system, because all of my gear is new and pretty much top of the line. My GPU is a GeForce GTX 770 with 2Gb VRAM, I have 16GB of RAM on the motherboard, and my CPU is an overclocked Intel i5-4690k at a base clock of 3.5GHz (4.0 overclocked). That CPU is just as good as the new Skylake models. I checked. So, please, Fun Pimps: fix this game on PC before sending it to the masses on console. Do not abandon your fans on Steam.
Note (6/30/16): I am aware that by no means is a GTX 770 top-of-the-line in any shape, form, or fashion. In fact, I've heard they have been discontinued. So, yes, it is a sub-par graphics card, but when it can render Battlefield 4 better (on ultra) than this game, it's kinda bad on the game's part. Is still great game!)

I find that the only con of the game is that it is highly unoptimized. the VRAM leaks constantly no matter what graphics card you use, and this can kill frames easily. This also has caused my game to crash several times. The only way right now to fix it is to go into the video options and hit 'Apply' on your graphics settings, which seemingly dumps the memory when it re-renders the world. If the devs would work on fixing the VRAM leaks and cleaning up the engine a bit, this game would be so much more enjoyable than it already is. This con is especially evident on Multiplayer (which, I might add, is where all the fun is in the game) when you join into a server. Despite this crucial flaw, I still have to give this a thumbs up because it’s such a great concept with potential in both the game and the graphics. Cough cough. @Devs.

Anyway, thank you for reading, and have a good one!

I like this game don't get me wrong, the whole surviving, looting, and building a base is really fun. PvP and griefers sometimes happen and trying to make your base theif proof is pretty hard as well unless you spam land claim boxes. The reason why I'm choosing to tell you to stay away from this game is that no matter how much you prepare for the endless hordes of zombies that attack every seventh night you can never be prepared for the teleporting, invincible, naked person wielding an infinite ammo AK47 that flies around killing you a few times before spawning a rocket launcher and blowing up all your hard long hours of survival. Now I know hackers are in every game but with the exception of two I have left half a dozen different servers after give or take 20-50 hours on that server before a hacker comes in and sets me back to square one. Great game, too many hackers to make putting in the hours to survive worth it. I'd avoid this game until they beef up their anti-cheat. Once that happens I'll gladly double and triple my hours in this game.
Great game, slow progress (still fun), unacceptably high number of hackers

And before you comment just yelling about 'just private servers' then read the first few comments. People brought up different solutions to this problem and I repsonded in kind. Useless comments that repeat something that has already been adressed will be deleted to prevent repetive comments that aren't helpful or bring in some new aspect or perspective that has not yet been looked at.

Day 1
------

Load in procedural Navezgane with one other person spawn in next to a lone burnt out house with very little to offer. i soon group up with my brother and he tells me of a town he spotted on his way to meet me.

command console suddenly appears and i glitch out of the game.

reload, night is here, mauled by bear

Day 4
------

Together we launch a small raid on Diersville and fortify a house on the outskirts of the town and the border of the National forest.

We begin preparations for night 7 and plans on the contruction of a bunker begin.

Console suddenly appears and i glitch out of the game again but plans proceed swimmingly.

Day 7
------

Final preparations are finished and we raid the Diersville hospital aquiring much needed medical supplies for the night along with blueprints and gear.

The night begins with several load shrieks with a musical of screams and moans of desire for our flesh as we huddle in our cobblestone bunker reinforced with iron spikes along the top and along trenches around the sides.

Corpses tumbled off above us and the bodies of the dead created a makeshift bridge across our fortifications.

the door had been breached, but with a few well placed reinforced blocks they were kept at bay.

Morning comes and as the sun rises the music of dawn plays, the command console appears yet again to remove me from the game.

Day 13
------

The Bunker is expanded and my brother and we gain a new member to our party and equip him with a new found sniper rifle. We tell him to post up on the second floor of our reinforced house just across the road from our bunker.

Day 14
-------

The Zeds stood no chance against our defences and they broke upon us like the sea against the cliffs. we held not losing a single wall to the undead hoards.

Day 17
-------

I set out alone to found a new outpost in the eastern reaches of Navezgane.

I begin demolitions of a gas station and build on top of its sturdy foundation but a pack of 7 dogs interrupts me and hastily dispatches me.

I respawn and quickly kill the remaining dogs and continue my contruction.
it has also occured to me that i have lost complete sound of zombies at this point and as a result am left in a constant state of paranoia.

Day 19
-------

Events take a turn for the worse as Honey, goldenrod tea and a hearty meal of bacon and eggs fail to increase lost wellness.
Despite not having a forge or any infrastructure i am plagued by routine Heat Hordes.
it occurs to me that all special events on the server happen around me, and myself only.

Day 20
--------

I begin the journey back to the outskirts of Diersville to prepare for the next bloodthirsty horde but i am quickly ambushed by a random heat horde spawning directly on top of my postition. I am eaten alive. again.

After reclaiming my equipment i move to salvage a derelict military camp in the frozen wastes but a group of 6 Frozen Lumberjacks spawn directly on top of me. i am stunlocked to death and eaten.

Day 21
--------

During a last ditch effort to salvage the military camp, the Horde spawns directly on top of me and my comrade and i quickly flee the scene. in my haste i accidently equip a flashlight on my main hand and it deletes my 550 quality sledgehammer.

Zombies are still silent during this time.

Day 22
--------

After innumerable crashes, horrible mixture of snow, sleet and rain. i am reduced to a shadow of my former being. i suffer from silent zombies, hypothermia, constant hunger and thirst and minimum wellness along with constant surprise hoards and horrid Frames per second.

i come to the realization that i am a masochist.
i also ♥♥♥♥ing love this game.

10/10 would get rekt by bugs again.

Still in alpha, this game atm has 14 different alphas to download if the latest one don't work on your system, or if you prefer an older one. Also has an awesome discussions forum, if you have any problems with the game.

A game must have enemies, and this one have zombies, dogs, bears, gravity, weather, hunger, sickness, caves, water...
In an open world only your own imagination limits what you can do.

Many players have devoted thousands of hours to this game, many modders constantly adds new dimentions to your gaming experience, and there are plenty of server owners who like you to join in on their worlds.

I might have restarted this game 100 times, but never made it to the end. I don't want it to end!

Will you survive 7 days?

Runs like crap on my gtx 980. Chews RAM like nobody's business. Stuttering lag fest. Garbage optimization. Regression bugs come with every patch. Graphics look bad.

Gameplay has been fun overall and i did put a lot of hours in this game. But since alpha 13, problems are piling up.

I own this game since 2014, the development process has been really, really slow and i am tired of waiting for real performance improvements.
