KSP 1.0.1 is Up!

Hi Again,

We've just published KSP v1.0.1. This is a small revision patch to address some of the most noticeable bugs we encountered since the release of 1.0.

Some of these we knew about for a while, but couldn't fix in time for the release (as we approach publishing time, the risk of code-breaking and delaying the entire release outweighs any benefits in the potential fix), others we found out about during the weekend livestreams, and some others we found from your own feedback.

This patch isn't meant to cover every single bug, of course, just the more relevant ones. We're going to keep on with the bugfixing and tweaking as we move into development of version 1.1.

You can check out the complete changelog in our forums.

As always, you can get the latest version from our KSPStore, GOG, or get auto-updated on Steam.

Happy Launchings!

Cheers

Sobre este jogo

In KSP you must build a space-worthy craft, capable of flying its crew out into space without killing them. At your disposal is a collection of parts, which must be assembled to create a functional ship. Each part has its own function and will affect the way a ship flies (or doesn't). So strap yourself in, and get ready to try some Rocket Science!

The game offers three gameplay modes: Sandbox, in which you are free to build anything you can think of; Science Mode, which lets you perform Scientific experiments to advance the knowledge of Kerbalkind and further the available technology; and Career Mode, in which you must manage every aspect of your Space Program, including administration strategies, Crew Management, Reputation, as well as taking up Contracts to earn Funds and upgrade your Space Center Facilities (or repair them).

Add to this the ability to capture asteroids (a feature done in collaboration with NASA), Mining for resources out across the furthest reaches of the Solar System, Constructing Bases and Space Stations in and around other worlds; plus literally thousands of mods from a huge active modding community, all add up into the award-winning game that has taken the space sim genre by storm.

Key Features

  • The Vehicle Assembly Building and the Space Plane Hangar allows players to build spacecraft out of any imaginable combination of parts.
  • Fully-fledged, Physics-based Space Flight Simulation ensures everything will fly (and crash) as it should.
  • Take your Kerbal crew out of the ship and do Extra Vehicular Activities.
  • Fly out to Moons and other Planets.
  • Procedural Terrain delivers detailed terrain at a vast scale. The Kerbal Planet is 600km in radius!
  • Mod-enabled, allows players to create new content and modify the game.
  • Ship systems. Keep an eye out for engine temperatures and fuel levels, and try not to explode.
  • Build ships with multiple stages, and jettison parts away as they burn out.
  • Full control over the ship’s setup allows for complex ships and advanced functionality.
  • Dock spacecraft together to build Space Stations, Massive Starships, or even surface bases on other worlds.
  • Manage your crewmembers, hire them, and send them out into space and make them into heroes.
  • Research and Develop new technologies to advance your Space Program.
  • Take on Missions to attract interest in your Space Program.
  • Discover new worlds and expand the scientific knowledge of Kerbalkind.
  • Extract valuable resources from all over the solar system.
  • And a whole lot more!

Step 1. Build a rocket
Step 2. Launch rocket, only to realize that you didn't put fuel on your ship
Step 3. Get fuel, set to launch. The thruster you chose is too weak to move your rocket
Step 4. Get a ton of boosters
Step 5. Rocket leaves launch pad, booster overheats, blows up entire ship
Step 6. Re-evaulate entire game now that you have killed Jeb and realize that you will never have another Badass Kerbal
Step 7. Reset and repeat

i almost flipped the table when i created a space station and made it orbit the earth :|
it felt like i've cured cancer and saved the humanity,no joke....
this is the kind of game with no actual mission or goal but when you start getting "somewhere" it gives you a great sense of accomplishment.
the game has no end,you can create endless missions for yourself and keep discovering new possibilities, and with mods it gets even better.
KSP is like the ultimate space simulator,(don't know if that's a thing, don't care :D ) and everyone should try it....
i haven't played much myself (yet) and i'm afraid if i put too much time into it i might get too addicted and abandon my social life just to play KSP!
but i see myself putting at least +200-300 hours into this game in near future :)

Build. Fly Dream.

One of the best sandbox games in this decade of sandbox games. You are given a whole star system open to exploration; Mun, Duna, Laythe, all these planets are yours, except Eve, attempt no landing there. However each trip has new challenges and the game does not hold your hand through them you will run out of fuel, burn up in re-entry, and explode and explode and explode. That rush you feel though when you finally plant that flag and safely return to Kerbin is incomparable.

This is the gateway drug to space. Nasa, Esa, and Roscosmos should pay squad for recruiting their next generation of scientists, engineers, and pilots.

Still charming, now with extra awesomeness.

Construction UI's gotten even more solid and impressive. They've tuned up the orbital-maneuver planning UI, it's beautiful. Flight model and air resistance and heat management are now unremarkably good (that's a good thing). Flight controls are still difficult to discover, but the worst of the old flaws are gone (it no longer trains you to rely on the space bar being "do the next thing" only to later on make that an insta-lose-but-only-sometimes button). While you're in-game it still won't show you the keyboard shortcuts and you kinda still have to find out about the quicksave key (F5 save, hold-F9 load) yourself before you can go check the keys midflight.

Caveat as of 1.0.2: don't use the hard-mode option that shuts off quicksaves yet. The mission planning UI is still pretty rarely buggy, and ships kinda rarely decide to start rotating out of control in deep space unless you leave SAS on. This burns through your limited power reserve and ruins missions. Those and RL interfering can cost you hours of effort without it.

Ragdoll Berts and a space program. Charming, genius, quietly-but-astonishingly well balanced, very demanding but always with clear reason game. I think this is going to remain my builder of choice for a long time.

I've been with KSP since 0.23 back in 2013, and with version 1.0 recently released, I am amazed by how persistently awesome this game/simulator has been. Although I think it would have been better to fix the technical problems in the game before the 1.0 release, this game is miles better than the average Early Access game. It's DRM-free, easily-moddable, and delivers realistic simulation, and hence it sets an example to all other games and simulators.

To begin, I guess I should give a short description: Essentially, KSP is a fairly realistic simulation game where you take control of and guide the nascent space program of a race of small green men and women from a planet named Kerbin. You will build your own vessels, choose your targets for exploration, colonization, scientific endeavor, etc, and blast off for space. The construction system is incredibly robust and fun to use, and, because of the level of customization available, tends to mean that no two ships will ever look or behave exactly alike. There are no food or oxygen or water needs on ships (several mods change this if you want), but the actual mechanics and physics of the game are convincingly accurate, and make for a, while unforgiving, very fun game, because the feedback is extremely consistent. A mistake will kill you EVERY time, unless something hilarious happens (this is actually one of the great parts of playing KSP).

I cannot say enough positive things about this game. I purchased this originally in April of 2013, before it was on steam, and only purchased it on steam now that it has officially released. KSP has few goals, and in sandbox mode, it has none, but goals are not the reason to play KSP. The first time I successfully put a Kerbal in orbit around his home planet, I was dancing around my dorm room, and the first time I landed a Kerbal on the Mun, I felt a sense of accomplishment I have quite literally never felt in a game before. Now, over the course of what must be at least a thousand hours of play, I have built massive colonies on Laythe, the Mun, Minmus, Duna, Eve, and even Ike, I've built huge orbital stations around various planets, and I've even built floating cities in the clouds of Jool and Eve through the use of just a few of the thousands of mods available. I've built resource collection and transport systems including storage, mining, and transport operations. I've explored hundreds of different areas with probes, landers, and vehicles, and yet, to this day, I still play this game at least two to three hours a week, and I'll go on KSP binges several hours long when I think of a new challenge to set for myself. Currently, a friend of mine and I are in a little friendly competition for who can build the most epic Duna colonization project. If you can't tell by now, if you want an 'on rails' game where everything is spoonfed to you, just leave now. This game is most certainly NOT for you. The contract system is honestly only there to give a person inspiration.

But if you want a game that throws challenges at you that will test every brain cell you have, and pound your face into the ground mercilessly if you make even the slightest mistake, then KSP is your game. And when you finally put a Kerbal safely on the Mun, you just might understand why so many people write such glowing things about KSP.

A game where you go up, then down. Or you just end up exploding into a million little tiny pieces as the heat from reentry blows up your wings, your nose piece, your parachute, and then your cockpit goes KABAM on Kerbin's water.

1st hour playing: WHAT DO I DO WHY IS IT BLOWING UP
400th hour playing: If my calculations serve me right with this T/W ratio It will take me 1 minute 43 seconds to burn at my periapsis to reach duna insertion at which point I will get into an eliptical equatoral orbit and perform an aerobrake at 16km to get into a steady circular orbit and then I will descend with one of my 4 spaceplanes I took to go to the north pole at which I will set up base at my already existing rover while getting TAC resources to monitor life support and make sure my colony of 212 kerbals can live.

11/10

Edit because for some reason this gained popularity, proper review:

Pros:
Endless fun, so much to do. Bored of building rockets? Build a space plane! Fed up of the mun? Go to Duna! Don't want to leave the atmosphere? Build whatever you want! The list goes on!

Fantastic modding community and fantastic mods. So much more expansion on an already amazing game.

Fantastic community in general, some of the nicest people I've met have came from this game. They are such a helpful bunch and I'm glad I'm with them! They'll most likely love to help you. There's also a bunch of fantastic YouTubers such as Scott Manley and others... (too many to name) :)

YOU CAN LEARN STUFF FROM THIS AND GAIN NEW INTERESTS! Before I played this I had no interest in space or space exploration whatsoever but now I actively follow space news and am quite knowledgable on the subject. I have also learnt a fantastic deal of orbital mechanics just from playing and learning the game.

Cons:

The engine and optimisation. This game uses Unity and it only uses 1 CPU core. This can be a major problem if running a multicore with low clock speed. The 32bit version of the game is a whole lot more stable but limits your RAM meaning that if you have a ton of mods you can run into a lot of crashes but thankfully there are mods out there such as ATM (Active Texture Management) and texture replacer to limit the amount of RAM the game uses. 64bit as of now is still pretty unstable with mods.

The learning curve and tutorials. The learning curve on this game is huge, I'm not complaining much about this one as rocket science isn't exactly easy is it? You can learn from trial and error and it's how I learnt alot but some things you just have to read up about or watch a tutorial on youtube. There isn't really much of a tutorial in game either.

Conclusion: Buy it. It's really fantastic.
