Doesn't work on my Mac. Has SERIOUS compatibility issues with Mac. Oh, and horrible launch was not forgotten. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, THIS IS WAR. DLC out of the dregs and EVERYWHERE. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥it CA, Rome II was the chosen one! It was the successor to the greatest game of all time, and a great follow-up to Shogun 2. YOU SCREWED THE FANS AND NOW THE FANS WILL SCREW YOUR NEXT RELEASE. Will Total War: Warhammer 40k end up like Rome II, with a crappy release and half baked gameplay? History shall decide!

Oh, and the models still have that horrible deformed face. It's 2016 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥it.

TL;DR: What started as a complete mess is now a decent game where one can forge a vast empire, delve into political intrigue, put the sword to some barbarians and be back in time for the Circus Maximus.

All major bugs are ironed out, only a few small ones remain and none of them are game

DLC, Voice Acting, Music, GFX & Performance Ratings

  • The DLC is mixed. Some are tiny and perhaps should have been included in the base game such as the blood or faction/culture packs buta couple of indivual factions were offered for free. There A few extra "mini-map" expansions and a large "full-map" expansion are available. DLC is over priced for what is it, but the expansions offer continued gameplay and a bit of variety to the base game. 6/10

  • Voice acting is great, however a little more variety couldn't have hurt. 7/10

  • GFX is nice, obviously a little outdated by now but still very satisfactory. 8/10

  • Music is great, nothing negative to say. 9/10

  • Performance is very well optimized. Running most settings on ultra and 1920x1080 on an Nvidia GTX 480 can achieve anywhere from 25-45fps. This is great result considering how old the card is. No performance isssues whatsoever. 9/10

Gameplay

The campaign is fun however I found it hard to complete a "world domination" style play like in the original Rome Total War. Plenty of extra fun to be had with agents, political events and diplomacy. Diplomacy is the best of any total war game so far, no outrageous demands, no pointless betrayals, friendships can last throughout the whole game.

The battle gameplay is also fun however some battles can be over within 5 minutes, which is great for an arcade style playthrough but older Total War fans might miss the longer, more epic feel of previous installments.

Overal

7.5/10 - A decent Total War game with improvement and drawbacks over the original game. I highly recommend this game, however not for €54.99, wait for a sale.

Alot of people have trouble with the menus and stuff in this game apparently, especially if they come from previous total war games. This menu system is easily learned if you have an open mind, so just remember its a little different than past total war games. (At least this is what my total war playing friends told me).

Outside of this the game has done a fantastic job of getting the total war formula of diplomacy, sustaining your empire, and war right. You can spend the whole game expanding and listing on revolt. You can expand and then chill and work on economy. Or you could take over the whole world through trade and alliances. Would rome again 10/10

A Well rounded game that has provided me countless hours of enjoyment (around 3000 hours).
When compared to watching a 2 hour movie for 10 dollars. I have got my moneys worth with this game.
I wish that they didn't stray into the magical realm with the new upcoming warhammer total war but I understand you have to give the players what they want even if its steam punk meets harry potter looking crap that has gears with no function what so ever.

This game is in a lot better state right now than at launch. I originally bought it when it came out, but still kept playing the older total wars as this one wasn't well optimised, and just wasn't finished. I recommend this game if you are a fan of the total war series, probably not the best title in the series if you're just getting into it. Also wait till there's a sale, £29.99 is overpriced, it's decent now and I really like the campaign but..

The one main thing I don't like about it, but isn't affecting me recommend the game because every game does this now. And it's the DLC and add ons. Extra campaigns fair enough, but £1.99 for the blood and gore (which if you buy this game you are more or less going to want) thenit's kinda silly. Overall a good game, decent enough but not a series best

This is a very good game but it has it set backs, i'll start with positives and negative results

(positives) the historic relations to the original Roman empire are well done

the game play is moderate and the map is excellent

not to mention the characters ridicuous insults are make me laugh my ♥♥♥ off

the choices with deplomacy and economy are awesome

and finally the forms of soldiers and and military are amazing

(Negatives) This game can get VERY slow and has many bugs

depending on how well equiped your troops are it can get frusterating with batles and sieges

The loading on this game is very very slow even though my windows 8.1laptop is fast with most high graphip games, i often have to 5 to 10 minutes to start the campaign so #%&* you SEGA

and at last if you click some thing that is important by accident there's no coming back unless you save before hand

(Result) the game has some issues however as tedious as they may seem I think this game is 7 out of 10

So the question is how long will you go for Rome?

Although it my hours are low on this game I played the original along time ago before I even knew steam existed through disks. I put massive hours into that game playing as multiple factions. At first all the new changes to the campain really kind of overwhelmed me. But once I took the time to learn it I greatly enjoyed the new feautures. If your a fan of the Total War series buy this. If you where a huge fan of the first Rome Total War, WHY HAVENT YOU BOUGHT THIS YET!!! Lol

howether with the instillation of DEI and the numorus faction updates (with you have to buy) it makes it ok
in conclusion you buy the shell and need DLC to make it the full game

While many enjoy the Total War games because of their unique blend of real-time strategy combat and standard-setting visuals or their incredibly high production values, what makes them truly fantastic is that one can easily invest hundreds of hours into just one entry of the series and likely never grow tired of its addicting mix of fighting and management. I have spend many hours on Rome II and yet I still keep coming back for more. Whether it be to try a new faction, a different early game strategy, change up my research priorities, focus more on naval prowess rather than raw manpower, empower trade over combat as a continent-spanning empire or mix up my tactics in the battles themselves.
The Total War games are packed with content, like the unique scenario battles that represent a key conflict in history, narrative campaigns and tutorial campaigns that each require a few hours or more of your time at the very least while presenting a mostly distinct experience, many entirely separate factions each with their own various traits at both a regional and cultural level, and the grand campaigns.

Each of these is a massive undertaking and has almost endless permutations for the path to total victory, dependent on any number of the factors mentioned above. You can even use the skirmish battle system to try out all different tactics and unit combinations from any of the numerous factions present in the game against a battle AI that you can freely adapt to your tastes in terms of difficulty. Lastly, Rome II offers an expansive suite of multiplayer options to back up its gargantuan single-player offerings, allowing you to play challenging battles against your friends or compete for global domination through the usual turn-based campaign system, even if the multiplayer isn't as functional as I would like! I have put many hours in every single Total War game and each new entry is both fresh enough and packed with quality to easily justify that kind of investment time and again - truly, this is a franchise that knows how to eat up the small hours of the day. If ever you needed a game to kill time in while trying out multiple different approaches to victory, allowing you to succeed either through making friends or destroying enemies in equal measure, then Rome II has been tailor made to match your desires.

After several patches, and with a healthy modding scene, it's a pretty great stratagy game. If you were turned off by it based on the early reception, it got a ton better so don't worry.

Attila is technically a better game, but I prefer the setting of Rome 2.

The game is much better than it was at launch - I have not encountered any bugs during my time during the game, and although there are many complaints on the DLC - just buy them during the Steam sales, they go down to unbelievably cheap prices.

A well-rounded strategy game, which although isn't on the level as Rome: Total War (in my opinion), it is very innovative and has many more features.

Whilst it's certainly a top reference of it's genre, R:TW2 becomes a bit dull after you realize the campaign has no other way to be interesting other than simply declaring war and taking what you want vs a poor AI. Whilst the battle mechanics are great (ai not so much), the game lacks complexity in diplomacy/trading. It's basically the opposite of EU IV.

As someone who pre-ordered, originally, I could not have recommended the game, as I essentially paid for a Beta in terms of bugs and polish. This still galls to this day and I would not pre-order a Total War game again.

After many patches and post-polishing, I can cautiously recommend this as a decent addition to the Total War franchise. Its overall mechanics aren't super, such as the nerf to culture change, where you now have default culture that cannot be converted, leaving permanent unhappiness in conquered territories of a foreign culture.

The battle mechanics are solid, although there are some clear carry-overs from Shogun 2. They never did families or the in-depth politics as promised. Despite that, the game is still fun, although it can get a bit stale when you get to a big empire stage against other similarly big empires. The AI does not always function as intended still, although the related game-breaking bugs have at least been eliminated.

A lot more time was spent with attention to history this time around, no ancient Egyptians, you now get proper diadochi. Some factions rosters are a bit sparse, and non-playable powers aren't worked into the system of buffs/tradeoffs you get choosing a faction or family for the playable ones.

Many of the faults and gripes can be fixed with mods, but it shouldn't be on the shoulder of the modwright to carry a game.

Ultimately, get this on sale in a bundle, there's many hours of game to explore, but it's not worth full price, in my opinion. And the DLCs are some of the better and more fun content.

Despite its troubled release, this Total War is honestly one of my favourite, its varying siege maps are great, the UI is tidy and easily navigated; and emperor's edition make it 100x better, all in all ignore the hate for it as it really is a great Total War game.
