The Endless Day has returned

Hi all,

The Endless Day has returned! :) We're celebrating today our studio's 5th anniversary with in-game events, tons of giveaways on Twitter, a special live stream and an office party!

Play Endless Legend, Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Space before Monday, January 25 to discover and permanently unlock rare Steam achievements or play with Tarosh the Archivist in each game. For more information, check out this FAQ:

  • How to unlock the Emlek Tarosh hero: you need to start a new game of Endless Space (make sure you have disabled your mods if you are playing with any), before January 25th (end of the event). If you manage to do so, the hero will be unlocked for your future games once the event is over.
  • To unlock the “Endless Day” achievement: win a game in “Endless” difficulty, started between January 21st and January 25th, but completed at any time.

  • How to unlock the archivist, Esseb Tarosh: you need to start a new game of Dungeon of the Endless. The hero will be available in your pool right away, for the duration of the event. Like any other heroes in DotE, you need to survive at least three floors with the hero or finish the game with it. If you manage to do so, once the event ends, you will be able to keep the Esseb Tarosh in your pool of heroes.
  • How to unlock the “Endless Day” achievement: you need to start a new game in any difficulty, hire the archivist hero and keep it alive, and complete the game. Make sure you start and complete a game between January 21st and January 25th in order to get the achievement.

  • How to unlock the Eslek Tarosh hero and the “Endless Day” achievement: you need to start a new game of Endless Legend (make sure you have disabled your mods if you are playing with any), before January 25th (end of the event!). Once you have built your first city, a new quest will appear: “Day of the Awakening”. Complete it and you will unlock the new hero and the Steam achievement.

Twitter giveaways will be taking place all day long on Twitter. Follow us on Twitter (@Amplitude) for a chance to win Steam keys for all our games and a great Endless goodies package! This event starts at 10am CET, and we plan to continue giving keys away throughout the whole day! So stay tuned, and good luck!

As a thank you for being part of our community, we will be unlocking the Mezari faction (Vaulters faction skin) for everyone in Endless Legend!

Don't miss our Live Stream, starting at 4pm CET with Mathieu & Romain, our co-founders! They'll discuss the studio's recent achievements, give updates on current projects, and drop hints about what comes next. Follow us on Twitch and be sure to tune in!

A Beer2Gether event will be taking place over at our studio in Paris. There's no more room for this one, sorry, be sure to be among the first to register next week to be able to visit us!

The Endless Day events conclude on January 25th at 12am CET. Achievement hunters, make sure to get them before then!

“Endless Space is smart, polished and intelligent game of countless permutations. Its strength lies in how carefully and how cleverly it's balanced, as well as how it rewards all kinds of playing styles. We haven't seen a strategy game quite like this in a while.”
8/10 – IGN

“In case it's not yet clear: go for it. If you are an experienced player, go for it. You are rather inexperienced with the 4X genre and it frightens you? Go for it.”
9/10 – FactorNews

“For a first game, it is surprisingly complex, demanding and motivating.”

Про цю гру

This galaxy is ancient, and its first intelligent life was the civilization we call the Endless. Long before our eyes gazed upon the stars they flew between them, though all that remains of this people is what we call Dust. A substance found scattered or in forgotten temples, it once gave powers to admirals and galactic governors. The galaxy will belong to the faction that can take control of the Dust and uncover its secrets…

A Born Leader

Guide one of eight civilizations as you strive for galactic dominion. Will you control the entire galaxy through subtle trade and diplomacy, explore every corner of the universe to find powerful artifacts and resources, overwhelm other civilizations with your advanced technologies, or destroy your enemies with massive armadas?

Endless Discoveries

With hundreds of star systems to explore, different planet types, luxuries and strategic resources to exploit, the mysteries within the Dust to master and a host of strange scientific phenomena to deal with, the player will have no lack of challenges. Hire heroes to become fleet admirals or system governors and discover five hero classes and their unique ability trees and specializations.

Space Opera

Experience Endless Space with state-of-the-art graphics and interface, switch between strategic battle decisions and long-term planning. Optimize each fleet for epic battles around contested stars. Create the perfect combinations from dozens of unique ships per civilization. Customize your ship with modules, armament, engines and special mods. The player has a plethora of choices of how to best destroy or dissuade his enemy.

Take on the Universe

Play against up to seven opponents and build up – or break – alliances at will. Discover an innovative and dynamic simultaneous turn-based gameplay. Permit instant jump-in for your ongoing online games. Define your own custom civilizations and confront the ones created by your friends.

Endless Replayability

Control every new game’s scope, from a quick match-up to an endless war. Generate an infinity of random galaxies where every start begins a new adventure. Modify the size, shape, density, age and a lot more to create your ideal galaxy. Choose from different victory conditions and adapt your strategy on the fly.

I have 66.9 hours on record as of writing this, roughly 33.45 hours are from friends deciding to manual, another 3.45 hours were convincing my friends to auto, 5 hours were my friends convincing me Harmony was overpowered, and only the remaining 25 hours were gametime.

Very fun game. A lot of the 4X space games constantly crash, this is stable. While it doesn't have every possible element of a great 4X space game, it has some fun features, like heroes and some level of ship customization. While I wish I could design my ships completely like in Star Drive, I would rather play a game that doesn't crash every minute (like Star Drive).

This game takes a while to get in to, and learn, and at first you will most likely fail a lot because the tutorial is trash, but look up guides on steam and you should grasp it quickly. the game is deep and really fun once you get the hang of it. The community is great as well. when i first got it i had problems starting t up, but i just deleted the logo movies that play on start up and it fixed the problem. overall the game is definitely worth a buy, the only real complaint i have about the gameplay is the terrible camera angles in battle, but those don't reall matter as the battles are automated so it only affects cinematic experience.

Normally strategy and huge-scale games aren't much in my interest, but this one has enough polish, personality and helpful options to make it one of the most enjoyable such titles of its kind which I've tried. I haven't spotted any major surprises, the game flows well, the soundtrack is very immersive but most of all the geology and cosmology nerds out there will enjoy some of the goodies one reaches after unlocking deeeeeeeeeeeeep space exploration.

I purchased this game under the assumption that it was space Real Time Strategy. It is in a way. If you're looking for more space combat/warfare, I would recommend looking at Homeworld: Remastered. But as it stands, this is more of Civilization in space.

My first and only problem is that when you play the game for the first time, the game starts telling you ♥♥♥♥. WAYYYY too much ♥♥♥♥. Every little thing you click on or highlight on the user-interface gives you 2-3 paragraphs to read on what it does. I feel they over-complicated the tutorial as a result, but I'm glad I stuck through it, as what I got was a game that totally surprised me in its addictive nature. The combat may be on rails, but building a space empire sets the story to make the battle unique and epic without actually controlling the battle. The diplomatic side to the AI is lacking and one Race seems to dominate over the others in solo campaigns, but these games are usually intended for online multiplayer experiences, so this shouldn't be an issue if that's what you're looking for.

Not happy with the Races to choose from? Make your own. Not happy with the destructive firepower of your destroyers? Change it to your liking. There's hours of content here making it pretty good value for money.

PRO: The best space 4x that's not Master of Orion 2.

CON: Definitely not Master of Orion 2.

VERDICT: Well, it's a hell of a lot better than Stardock's latest pile.

Having spent ~30 Euros on this game, I really tried to like it. After almost 60 hours I still don't.

In principle this game has everything, a huge technology tree, complex gamplay, fighting, diplomacy, etc. Still, I didn't enjoy the game. Half of the time I was micro managing annoying things (enemies clearly losing fights and fleeing all the time but then "overpowering me" in the next system because I moved my fleets to chase them down), refitting ships and reoptimizing planets. Also the diplomacy was pretty much limited everyone declaring war on me all the time because - well I can only assume I was too powerful because I grew too fast.

Substationally worse than Endless Legend.
Trade routes are only possible with other empires so they sit largelly worthless if they do not build any.
Combat mechanics are a confusing mix of randomness and tooltips that give inaccurate information. Reloading a save and picking the correct counter strategy yielded a worse outcome multiple times, so tactics do not seem to matter.

Promising, but poor combat and tech trees make it unsatisfying come mid-game. Colonizing and invading also is pretty unclear as to how to go about it.

TL;DR, a solid 4X with a couple unique & nifty features; lacks complexity, but it's at least not mind-numbingly easy. A solid intro to the genre on easier difficulties, and nice for veterans on hard+, definitely worth the price of admission for any fan of the genre...and at least worth a look if you're not, if you can snag it on discount.

With three games played and considering a fourth, something about it has me hooked, so I guess that's recommendation enough. This game is feature complete and isn't a platform for 4+ years of continuous overpriced DLC, so there's that too, I guess.

This game is the definition of what I think when I hear "Civilization in space," and is just about the same as Civ in how much of a repetitive slog to inevitable victory it is despite its shipbuilding & combat systems, and SUPERBLY crafted factions each with unique art/units/style, backstory, and game mechanics; I fell in love rather quickly. Sadly, as time went on and the veneer of starry-eyed wonder wore off, I discovered that the game ultimately lacks depth, as you end up rushing the same buildings & tech, and falling in line with the same battle strategies regardless of enemy or faction.

The Pros?

+ The Factions. As stated above, it's clear a lot of time was spent to make them all different, with detailed artwork & backstories, unique models for all faction ship classes, and game mechanics. I'm not just talking superficial changes in how they play, either: unique improvements, tech (and a mixup of where certain tech is in the tree), different specializations on your different ship classes, and a specific set of game rules - not just modifiers, but actual mechanics - endemic to each race that attempt to steer you into a particular playstyle with that race.

I mean, this alone makes me start up new games with factions I haven't played.

+ The shipbuilding, the real meat that sets Endless Space apart from many 4X games. The ability to personalize every part of your ships' systems and loadouts really adds a personal touch to your empire, and made me feel (rightly or wrongly) that any combat failures were my fault, that any overwhelming/surprising successes were my doing, and not some dickery of the game. There is no inevitability of overwhelming enemy numbers: as the supposed "weakest" empire in my first game, my 9 little gunboats held the border against the entire enemy armada from the empire with more than double my score, simply by hardcountering its build.

+ The aesthetics. The music definitely fits the whole "intergalactic space empire vying for supremacy" thing, and the map, artwork, ship models and planet models are all still a glory to behold, even after all these hours. It's pretty, I guess.

The Cons?

- You can - and eventually will - be dicked over by the galaxy generator. That's just the nature of the beast, sadly. A crafty player can overcome a bad start position, at least, but if you're looking for a quick game, you'r ebetter off just surrendering and restarting. The AI has deep difficulty in overcoming bad starts; I'm talking entire galaxy arm with less than half of their planets colonized by turn 120 (on normal speed).

- Every faction plays the same. "But what about those different mechanics you talked about?" Yeah, forget it. Notice how I said the different faction traits "attempt" to steer you into certain play styles. Ultimately once you've found your groove and know what works, you'll rush the same techs & improvements every game, regardless of pressure from the game itself to play differently...because there is an optimal way to play, and it just simply works best regardless of the faction.

- Combat is dull; you'll want to just autoresolve about 95% of it when you learn what you're doing. Sure, you can pick formations (which determine what your enemy shoots at) and strategies (which determine what you shoot at), and you can select from certain tactics cards to give an edge in a nearly "rock-paper-scissors" fashion...but ultimately, "manual" fleet control proves useless in a game where combat is just two fleets colliding into each other with no maneuvering, and really only has a use in changing your attack strategy to "guillotine" or "nosebreaker" when things unexpectedly go ♥♥♥♥-up and you try to get as much damage done before inevitable defeat. Even battle tactics become trivial after the early game, as you unlock ones that are just objectively useful in all situations.

- The tutorial is objectively ♥♥♥♥. It's pages of text overlaying screencaps of the game, talking you don't understand when you first boot the game. It's 2 hours of reading for an info/text dump that'll just leave you vaguely confused; you're better off finding a friendly FAQ/guide online somewhere...or do as I did, and stumble around in your first game learning as you go.

- The shipbuilding. It is vital, a necessity to know what you're doing with ship loadouts in order to survive, & WILL be the cause of you losing your first games. Also, hard-countering your friends is fun. Being hard-countered yourself is not fun, and will will be the cause of much raging and quitting when your entire armada is slaughtered by 9 piddly gunboats.

Yeah...I think that's about it. Probably forgot something, but that's what I remember off the top of my head.

Similar to sins of a solar empire with civilisation mechanics and some ship building from alpha centuri.

Very impressive game, massive research trees, heroes and good number of races.

Ship building, researching parts and watching them at war; most fun.

♥♥♥♥ hard for your average simian.

Pretty good version of the genre, all around decent. Not as complex as some of the others, not as simple as the easiest, middle of the road, some nice features I miss in the others (heroes, mostly).

The first couple of games filled me with dread. I have tried the Civ 4 games and those just overwelmed me. The amount of stats and reading with no story, just straight info. Well this game does seem very similar to that, but I have gotten over the hump! I am understand the resources, combat, improvements, virctory conditions, etc, and it is turning into a fairly fun game after all. The tutorial and community guides helped. There is a background story, it would have been nice if they had made the story more prominant.

TLDR: good turn based game. Very complicated like other turn based games.

I'm not gonna go deep into description about ES here, as other reviews have already covered that quite well. The one helpfull thing I can say about it is: THIS GAME IS EVERYTHING STARSHIPS UNLIMITED SHOULD HAVE BEEN. If you're looking for a better version of SU: look no further. Not to slam on SU; it was a great and addictive game. But this has a better and more diverse tech tree, better graphics, better music (slightly), the combat is different, but easy enough to figure out after a couple times.
I am very happy I bought it. 10/10. Well done devs...
