This game is horrible.

A better game of a same genre is Stellaris by Paradox Games.

Do yourself a favour and don't waste your money on this. Rather play Endless Legend.

Probably a good game. Unfortunately unplayable on a Macbook without mouse, just using the trackpad. Ships can't be moved as the game doesn't recognise right clicks. What a shame.

Can't get enough of tactical turn-based, RTS and 4x.
Looks like however turn-based 4x is not at all what I look for when I game.

I appreciate the scope and strategy. The graphics are great and the music is awesome.
Still, the pace and overall flow of the game is quite simply a drag.

Picked up Sorcerer King and Endless Space cheap. Tried them both.
And Civ 5 on sale. Haven't tried yet.

I'm still open to giving them a chance but currently it's looking grim....
Sins of a Solar Empire and Stellaris are much more engaging and immersive.

I bought this hoping for another game like "Master of Orion". This game fell short of that. The game mechnaics seems harder than it had to be and the tech tree was a bit disorganized. Others will enjoy this but I did not.

Endless Space is a pretty sweet strategy game. The gameplay options for customizing the maps, factions, and play style are plentiful and varied. Despite not having a story or campaign mode, the single player mode offers many hours of play. I really enjoyed the concept of the endless that's presented here. The flavor of the game is very rich. I haven't played multiplayer, so I can't comment on that. The games UI is very plain and simple, but I like it. It makes it easier to find everything and get into the game more. One complaint I have about the game is that the games themselves are slow paced and quite lengthy. Also, in terms of the 'Emperor Edition', I'm not sure of it's value. You get the soundtrack and some points for the developers website (useless in my opinion). They should have included the expansion, but I'm not too concerned, the base game is still terrific. I'll recommend it to 4X strategy fans or sci-fi lovers, and people new to the genre; it's a good start.

This game could be so enjoyable and be just about flawless if it only didn't have the HUGE issue of being far too difficult on the easiest level. The AI overpowers and overmatches you right from the getgo. I am actually surprised this hasn't been adjusted in all this time. I believe i had bought this in early access aways back. I really do not feel like playing this game at all now- such a waste of what should be a fantastic game~

Please don't buy this game, play it only for a couple of hours and then toss it with a bad review. (I almost did that) It takes a bit of learning... (probably not unlike the VERY first time you tried Civilization) But it's worth giving it a full playthrough as a race and then trying again with the same one. Once you get the basics, swap to another race and prepare for a whole new game. Each race has different perks and some have different improvements (not unlike Civ). But the best part is that the tech tree is slightly different for each race to capitalize on those perks.

For example, one race has a buyout bonus. Then through research they can gain money (dust) by killing enemy ships and build unique improvemnts that rake in cash. Then you can basically not worry about long build times because you can just buy everything in one turn!

The diplomatic system can be frustrating at times... not being able to declare war for a certain number of turns after a ceasefire or peace agreement. But the "Cold war" aspect is pretty neat. Another drawback is that sometimes the AI will make stupid decisions. "Sure i'll give you the REST of my planets for a ceasefire..." or "I'm about to capture half of your planets in the next turn but ok... I'll accept this ceasefire for nothing in return."

The battles can be repetitive, but you also don't need to watch em...(there's an auto button that skips straight to the outcome... takes 3 seconds) And it's fun to watch the battles that you deem worthy. Watching 15v15 is almost as cool as watching 4v4 with capital ships!

In sum, it's a great game... give it more than just one shot. If anything it'll give you something to look forward to in the upcoming sequel!

After a few false starts I won a Wonder victory on normal. The game has several good ideas but overall it's just too clunky and gimmicky to truly enjoy. Hopefully Amplitude can fix most of these issues in Endless Space 2.

The good:
- Nice clean visuals and decent UI
- Great lore

The bad:
- The card-based ship combat is pretty weak and not exciting
- The improvement system is clunky and micromanagement heavy
- Ship design is boring

The ugly:
- Several techs are poorly explained in the game

A fantastic 4x game with the absolute best UI you will ever see in a strategy game. I also love the fully visible tech tree where you can plan ahead, even more so after playing a few games with "randomly available technologies". It pains me to see it getting mixed reviews nowadays. I mean sure it has it's problems, you can't control ships in combat, but you still have strategy cards, formations, and massive hero bonuses. That's more than recent game Stellaris has in their combat system. After playing several other 4x's i always find myself comparing them to Endless Space, almost like its the par for the course. I mean that in the best way possible too.

I played about 80 hours on classic mode (without the Disharmony dlc) before I switched over to the Disharmony version. The game is incredible and gets only better with the addition of the Disharmony dlc. And the AI is probably the most vastly improved feature of the game. Oh man, the AI.

Me and three other factions controlled a quarter of the galaxy each. Well, I allied myself with two of the others, and declared war on the remaining faction, the Sowers. I had the least amount of ships in the galaxyand was by far the weakest by firepower, but thanks to fleet formations and strategic card playing, I beat every fleet sent my way. By the time I drove this guy to his only remaining star system, his home system, I must have destroyed well over a hundred individual ships and taken six or seven systems from him. He's two turns away from being wiped from the face of the galaxy when he calls for a ceasefire. Maybe you're thinking he offers me a tech or two I don't have for incentive to accept the ceasefire.

Nope.

Not only does he demand I pay him 30 dust per turn, not only does he demand techs that would reveal different resources to him, he also demands no less than four star systems that never even belonged to him in the first place. I mean, the balls of that. The absolute ungodly size of them.

I almost accepted the ceasefire out of sheer awe.

10/10 recommend.

Endless space is a 4x strategy game set in well space. The game contains(Currently)12 factions each one playing quite diffrently from each other for instance you have the Cravers which for the first 20 turns on a colonzied planet gain +25% FIDS(Food,Industry,Dust,Science)After that they get a 40 turn no bonus no negatives and finally for the rest of the game a -25% FIDS.The Galaxy looks quite nice and isnt too Graphically intense(I Can run it quite well). The Units howver come with a in game unit designer as you research new tech you get new parts which you can add to your ship this makes the units quite flexible and diffrent. The tech tree is huge and seperated into 4 diffrent paths.Space combat is seperated into 4 parts Arrival,Long range,Medium Range and Melee Range. Each range is better for diffrent weapons. You have two ways to do space battles Auto or you can WATCH the units fight no commanding. However in both modes you must pick a tactic for your units to do in all phases.Ground combat is seperated into Sieges which u can do by adding siege modules to your ships.many more things can be said but i think by now your falling asleep.Overall this game is a 4x Jewel

Endless Space is Civ5 in space instead of on a planet. If you like Civ5, you will like Endless Space. If you do not like Civ5, you will not like Endless Space. It has a steep learning curve for the uninitiated, matches can take well over 10 hours at times, and it has the same nuances (for better or worse) as Civ5. The ES community is also much smaller and answers for many questions which new players may have are not as easily found, but I do not think that this game was made with non-Civ players in mind. I enjoy this game very much, but I like "boring" macro and micro sims like this.

Do not buy this game for its alleged space combat, because you will auto-simulate most battles if your purpose is winning, and the battles when not auto-simulated are mostly unpredictable rock-paper-scissors-other element-second other element in formula which do not let you control it like the screenshots may indicate. This does not make this game bad at all, but it also does not make ES a space combat game, either.

The game has amazing combat displays, decent music, and overall has everything you need for a great game, but somehow isn't all that fun simultaneously. Maybe it isn't fast enough? Despite all the negativity this game has been getting recently I still do believe it is absolutely superb. The a.i. aren't ridiculously stupid and will offer a good challenging fight that tests your abilities to make and control fleets, technological advancements are at a good, balanced pace, and each faction offers a unique way of playing; or you could make your own! About the only negative I can really think of and it isn't much of one is how you have to research being able to offer peace, make allianced, and trade. But overall this is a very good 4x game that I would give a 9/10 and do highly recommend it to anyone even remotely thinking of buying it.

Very tentative recommendation, 6.5 or 7 out of 10.

Frankly, I like the game, but it's shallow. Wide gameplay, but shallow depths. You have planets to manage, systems to conquer, fancy space battles you can watch and organise. Lots of things to do.

Until you get into the game. My first match, normal, random AI, default starting stuff I spent a lot of time clicking the "end turn" button. If you don't get the AI to manage your systems for you, you will get waaaaayyyy too many systems to check up on. The research tree is pretty big, and learning what to research is kinda of difficult starting out.

Essentially, there's too much of an info-dump of things that may or may not matter with the tutorial bits, and I did what I shouldn't and skipped it. Info-dump + not particularly complex gameplay. There's no mega-fleets (yet), or commanding ships like in E.V.E. of "torpedoes on the port ship! Engage beam weapons!". It's just a cutscene where you choose 3 tasks for your ships to do and that's it for ship vs ship stuff.

Have not tried out ship vs planet stuff yet though.

Will edit later. Leaning towards the "not recommended", but I don't think I've played the dlcs yet (still in first game, lol). 2-3 hours of my gameplay were spent idling. Game was purchased during steam sale for $14 or so.

The lore in this game is by far the best ever ! I only say that because there were many years where there was all these diferent lores, such as Star Wars, and Warhammer 40K. Yet none of them really interested me, and for a very long time I never understood fan bases that got made at directors or game developrs for making games or movies that didn't fit into the "criteria" for the lore being depicted. Then one day, Amplitude Studios arrives with a brand new game, Endless Space, and the game is just brilliant. The lore especially, its got a mysterious 'Endless' sort of view point, in the fact that in every game it focuses on the 'now' of the main factions and leaves the mystery part to the 'past' factions that all sort of coincide with each and every game. It was something original, and finally a place where I can could my own and understand the lore, and finally understand what its like to be a geek for someting as fictional and sci-fi as Endless Space. The reason I consider this a recommended review, is because this is the biggest appeal to me when I play Endless Space, I feel like I'm leading the factions to prosperity, and sometimes I would just mindless play the game to roleplay and go on a adventure that only this game could offer. There is no other strategy or 4X game that quite gives you this much sort of engagement in a storyline and lore. I also thought it would be important to note that I picked up this game in 2013, exactly before the day of the release of the Disharmony expansion. The love of the lore of Endless Space still going strong.

I've had this game for a while, I got it just after my daughter was born.
It's wonderful, its just the right pace to play with her sat on my lap, I can just click away and manage at my own pace.

This games biggest strength is it's soundtrack, it's beautifle.

I probably wouldnt get the game full price as I feel the combat is a bit lacking amongst other things.

I was sure I had more than 8 hours on the game, I've spent days on it. But hey ho.

If you like a nice chilled out game this is the one to go for.
