The Endless Day has returned

Hi all,

The Endless Day has returned! :) We're celebrating today our studio's 5th anniversary with in-game events, tons of giveaways on Twitter, a special live stream and an office party!

Play Endless Legend, Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Space before Monday, January 25 to discover and permanently unlock rare Steam achievements or play with Tarosh the Archivist in each game. For more information, check out this FAQ:

  • How to unlock the Emlek Tarosh hero: you need to start a new game of Endless Space (make sure you have disabled your mods if you are playing with any), before January 25th (end of the event). If you manage to do so, the hero will be unlocked for your future games once the event is over.
  • To unlock the “Endless Day” achievement: win a game in “Endless” difficulty, started between January 21st and January 25th, but completed at any time.

  • How to unlock the archivist, Esseb Tarosh: you need to start a new game of Dungeon of the Endless. The hero will be available in your pool right away, for the duration of the event. Like any other heroes in DotE, you need to survive at least three floors with the hero or finish the game with it. If you manage to do so, once the event ends, you will be able to keep the Esseb Tarosh in your pool of heroes.
  • How to unlock the “Endless Day” achievement: you need to start a new game in any difficulty, hire the archivist hero and keep it alive, and complete the game. Make sure you start and complete a game between January 21st and January 25th in order to get the achievement.

  • How to unlock the Eslek Tarosh hero and the “Endless Day” achievement: you need to start a new game of Endless Legend (make sure you have disabled your mods if you are playing with any), before January 25th (end of the event!). Once you have built your first city, a new quest will appear: “Day of the Awakening”. Complete it and you will unlock the new hero and the Steam achievement.

“Endless Space is smart, polished and intelligent game of countless permutations. Its strength lies in how carefully and how cleverly it's balanced, as well as how it rewards all kinds of playing styles. We haven't seen a strategy game quite like this in a while.”
8/10 – IGN

“In case it's not yet clear: go for it. If you are an experienced player, go for it. You are rather inexperienced with the 4X genre and it frightens you? Go for it.”
9/10 – FactorNews

“For a first game, it is surprisingly complex, demanding and motivating.”

This galaxy is ancient, and its first intelligent life was the civilization we call the Endless. Long before our eyes gazed upon the stars they flew between them, though all that remains of this people is what we call Dust. A substance found scattered or in forgotten temples, it once gave powers to admirals and galactic governors. The galaxy will belong to the faction that can take control of the Dust and uncover its secrets…

A Born Leader

Guide one of eight civilizations as you strive for galactic dominion. Will you control the entire galaxy through subtle trade and diplomacy, explore every corner of the universe to find powerful artifacts and resources, overwhelm other civilizations with your advanced technologies, or destroy your enemies with massive armadas?

Endless Discoveries

With hundreds of star systems to explore, different planet types, luxuries and strategic resources to exploit, the mysteries within the Dust to master and a host of strange scientific phenomena to deal with, the player will have no lack of challenges. Hire heroes to become fleet admirals or system governors and discover five hero classes and their unique ability trees and specializations.

Space Opera

Experience Endless Space with state-of-the-art graphics and interface, switch between strategic battle decisions and long-term planning. Optimize each fleet for epic battles around contested stars. Create the perfect combinations from dozens of unique ships per civilization. Customize your ship with modules, armament, engines and special mods. The player has a plethora of choices of how to best destroy or dissuade his enemy.

Take on the Universe

Play against up to seven opponents and build up – or break – alliances at will. Discover an innovative and dynamic simultaneous turn-based gameplay. Permit instant jump-in for your ongoing online games. Define your own custom civilizations and confront the ones created by your friends.

I loved this game for a really long time. It was interesting and had a good aesthetic (and still does). The developers were really responsive to the community and released a string of free DLCs that added many new features to the game. Even the expansion, which was reasonably priced at ten dollars, was interesting and fun, although the interesting, radically different Harmony faction was permanently crippled by two very, very bad design decisions.

...but I digress.

However, this is an example of a game that was destroyed by its updates. The final changes made to the game completely destroyed the diplomacy system and resulted in the AI repeatedly declaring wars on the player almost immediately after the player's score surpassed their own. It was a serious blow to the game's immersion factor and playability. It's not even like the wars were deadly, as it wasn't that hard on most difficulties to just endure the early sieges and produce a fleet of advanced dreadnoughts to wipe out the million tiny cruisers the AI would throw at you. Simply put: it turned Endless Space into a sci-fi version of the Total War games.

This was a great game; it's still a decent one, but I would not recommend buying it now. If you want a good 4X game, either buy Endless Legend, a much better game by the same company, or wait for Endless Space 2.

12,375 hrs on record .. yeah. I really do like 4x games and this one started rough (I mean it was all but unplayable) but with the continual development and improvement pumped into it by the publisher it's gotten to be quite decent. It's definitely mature and I haven't had a crash in a long time. I see they're taking what they learned from this development experience and making a new game in the series. Looking forward to that one and if you're looking for a time killer with a lot of playability, well then this is it. A great buy.

this game reminds so much of Isaac Asimov's novels.
Once I had two separate colonies at the far ends of the galaxy that eventually became 2 separate empires, like in the Foundation saga. so cool.

- every decision counts, but errors are not irreparable.
- awsome ship design system, you have to keep you fleets up to date, man.
- many ways to win
- long games (might be a con for you)
- high replayabily value, you could play it endlessly

- micromanaging 20 systems can be a pain sometimes
- no real surveying/intelligence system...like I would like to scout enemy fleets and systems, but I can't until I engage or conquer
- the learning curve is a bit steep, but that might be a pro for you
- endless space 2 is coming out!
- sometimes the AI does dumb ♥♥♥♥, but at higher difficulties it gets pretty strong.

super cool game, would racomend it...it's kinda relaxing sometimes.

ENG version first, RUS version is below.
Сначала по-английски, потом то же самое по-русски.

TLDR: Excellent turn-based 4X strategy!

• good graphics and user-friendly interface;
• 12 races with rather noticeable differences;
• extensive research tree with 4 directions of development;
• interesting colonization and development of star systems that have different characteristics;
• powerful ships editor;
• unique system of spaceship battles;
• you can win in different ways;
• great potential of replayability;
• though AI is not perfect (but where he is?), however it's reasonable enough;
SO-SO (someone may not like it):
• diplomatic actions are not multifarious;
• management of a vast empire takes a long time;
• complete party is also very long;
• during the second half of the game the technologies begins to be studied very quickly, so there are no time / sense to build novelty;
• AI sometimes takes strange decisions in diplomacy as well as slowly reacts on changes in the configurations of the fleets during the war;
• high-level heroes are too powerful and AI again is not capable to develop them in the right way;

Отличная пошаговая 4Х стратегия!

• хорошая графика, удобный интерфейс;
• 12 рас с довольно-таки заметными отличиями;
• обширное дерево исследований с 4 направлениями развития;
• интересно колонизировать и развивать миры, имеющие различные особенности;
• мощный редактор кораблей;
• своеобразная система космических сражений;
• победить можно различными способами;
• большой потенциал replayability;
• ИИ хоть и не идеален (да и где он такой?) но вполне разумно действует;
НЕ МИНУСЫ для меня, но кому-то может не понравиться:
• дипломатических действий совсем немного;
• менеджмент обширной империи занимает долгое время;
• полная партия тоже весьма длительная;
• во второй половине игры технологии начинают изучаться уж очень быстро — строить новое уже не успеваешь / нет смысла;
• ИИ иногда принимает странные решения в дипломатии и недостаточно быстро реагирует на изменения конфигураций флота во время войны;
• прокачанные герои слишком мощные, чем опять же не умеет пользоваться ИИ;

When I first watched the game trailer, I was lead to believe I was going to be taking part in an epic storyline. Then I started the game and found out there is no single player campaign mode, just setting up skirmishes.

When I looked at the screen shots of these immense fleets firing at one another, I was lead to believe you'd be able to take direct control of your units during a "manual" battle like in Medieval Total War 2. Again no. It's really only a cinematic for you to watch the destruction.

When the trailer talked about diplomacy and alliances I thought I'd be able to negotiate with other races. That turned out to be true...after I invested considerable turns upgrading that section of my skill tree.

The tech tree I would say is the best and worse thing about Endless space. The scope of it is immense and you will spend a lot of time just going over and reading each research option to see what it does. Being able to navigate this tree by knowing which things to research first and which to avoid is crucial to having a chance vs your opponent.

However, due to the randomness of skirmish set up, the learning curve for that is ever changing. Say for instance you start in a system that aside from your starting planet, is filled with nothing but gas giants and barren worlds and the surrounding systems contain more of the same. You're going to have to research your exploration tree for a fair amount before you can colonize them. If your opponent started in a system with many fertile planets they can begin colonization the minute they have the population to do so, which will result in a dust and science increase much sooner than you. You will have to play catch up which requires you to know the tech tree backwards and forwards to maximize every turn you play.

With no campaign, no unit control in combat, and the inability to really do anything in the game with out researching it before hand, that would require a time investment that I don't feel is worth putting into this title.

I think the developers could have spent their time better if they had streamlined the tree, removed the time the player is forced to spend upgrading rudimentary empire/race functions, and implementing more immersive and engaging combat instead of the card system that feels like it belongs in a Yugioh battle and not in galatic warfare. At the very least, they could have made their advertising way more honest and then I wouldn't have bought this game to begin with.
