My least favourite version of my very favourite Prince of Persia game
This is a gorgeous adventure game set fully separately from any other Prince of Persia game. It has a great art style, amazing exploration in gorgeous environments of which you'll see both a light and a dark version and a good story with strong, well-voiced characters.
It's not all great though.
Combat is not as fluent as you'd expect, either from the series or an action game in general, and there is a severe lack of variety in the enemies. I'd argue that the focus is more on the exploration and platforming anyway, but that doesn't quite excuse this level of laziness.
Then there's the point specific to this version. How integrated with Steam a game is is completely up to the developers. Since this is published by Ubisoft (which has its own competing system, uPlay) it wasn't much of a surprise to see no trading cards or achievements on Steam, but the Steam overlay isn't even available. This means no in-game chatting or easily checking the time and, worst of all (to me), no screenshot functionality.
If you have a console (the game came out on XBox 360 and PS3 as well) it would make sense to me to get it there instead, but I had no problem with this version either. Just wished it had been given a bit more love in its conversion so that it matches the amount of care and dedication that went into the game itself.Summary
+No uPlay required (or in fact possible)
-Poor Steam integration
