Lookit this game is hard. Like, really hard. Like, to do simple things you need to spend 15 minutes googling things like "how do I make my mining ship mine" or "why isn't my station builder building my station" or "how do I trade". The menus make no sense until you've stared at them for hours, the station scanning and NPC chatting minigames are absolutely terrible and I HATE THEM SO VERY VERY MUCH.

Like all the other X games even the tutorial or plot missions BARELY hold your hand. The learning curve is STEEP. Things are rough, it runs like a one legged dog, some of the gameplay is garbage (again with the stupid NPC smalltalk) but like the other X games they keep fixing it and patching it and improving it, the mod community is strong, and for some reason I just like playing it.

After getting tired of interdictions in Elite Dangerous I started playing X rebirth after installing a couple of mods to make it look better. Just take a look and decide for yourself if it looks to be worth your time...Its been a while since I had that amount of fun in a game.

Seriously it looks better than mostly everything out there, maybe on par with EVE, and I won't talk about Elite. Everything feels so big in this game.

to me i like it very much
-it has very nice graphic very many systems and places to visit
-different factions which have reputation system
-many options to do easy flying system
-free play mode and + different options to select
-much action and battles between different factions as far i seen
-finaly (missing in all other X games in the serie) they added engine sounds too :)
-many mods aviable too if one is unhappy on gameplay can find alot to improve
-nice sounds and nice music on my oppinion too

the general proberty management can be a bit easier in future developing but the nice campaign which in same time is a great tutorial to the free play mode does teach us the most we need know :)

aside the fact only one playable ship i honestly not understand all the bad reviews hm there i decided i put one on my oppinion giving a positive rating

this game definitv deserves more rating up :)

sorry bad english

You can only fly ONE!!!! ship..... you can buy all the ships you like but YOU can only fly ONE ship...... I feel cheated. I loved all the other x games. I play reunion and terran conflict with various mods but thanks to steam I had to buy and install them from CD because I can't turn off autoupdates. Steam won't let me NOT update. So really.... ♥♥♥♥ steam and ♥♥♥♥ this game.

Thought after all this time the problems I have read about would be fixed. They haven't, Game plays fine thriough the menu, but locks up when you start a new game. All the recommended fixes didn't work. At least I got it on a heck of a steam sale, so I am not out all that much.

Of the 41 hours I've played this game I've had mixed emotions.

X Rebirth is really wanting to be a good space sim, but is lacking many things, and seems either low budget, or lazy on the developer's side.

I love that I can build an empire basically of multiple types of stations, small fighters, Capital ships, Miners, and Trade ships, but I never really had anything to do with my "Empire" after it was all said and done. Being able to take sectors for your own government you made (And that you're in charge of) would have been great. Sadly you are only able to make more and more money, for no reason it seems, from what I found.

Your character can never fly a different ship, which was a feature they took out from their previous games. What kind of Space sim only allows the use of one ship? And the character models look awful by the way.

Space sims are about choice, and even though you can sort of destroy other factions stations, you can't get rid of them, and this just seems like a trade simulator... Not a Space sim.

Much simpler version of X, and that's not a bad thing. Great for new comers. I've played the series since X2, and did not regret buying this. It was a nice change from the complex mechanics of normal X.

alright i wanted to love this game i really did. I got the new dlc i loved its features. its options but still the same problem the game is not balanced for trying to make a living fighting and be enjoyable. If you read below you can see how much i played when it was about to come out.
i mean i really really tried to like it and get back into it but im sorry. I couldn't I tried i really did. But I have to change my review from a plus to a negative. You can read my review from jan 30ish below. Like i said i was excited i really wanted this game to work but as much as i wanted to i just cant play this game. I'm sorry egosoft i tried. The game needs more fixs and have not seen anything in almost 6 months. For this reason i have to say the game has turned into a dud.
The game is good but there is just certain features that are not in this game that i expect to be put back in that weren't that make this game just suck for me now.

START REINSTALLING BOYS AND GIRLS!!!
https://www.gamingeurope.co/x-rebirth-new-home-light-dlc-4-0-update/space-games/
Proof I'm not the only one saying this.
I am Playing the Beta version 4.0 Version 6 update 1 on Jan 30. I have played 7 1/2 hours today in the BETA. And I WILL say this. I had 201 hours at the time of this review. I Truely wish that you could experience what i have for last 24 hours. Its now Jan 31 and 220 hours. I'm playing it non-stop. Many of you will be as well soon.
You can not play the version of this game that i am playing until FEB on its official release. However START getting ready for it because OUR GAME FINALLY ARRIVED
The game is FINALLY 1.0. This is the place NOW at this time. THIS is the game ""WE!!""expected to get at X rebirths release.
I have not written a review of this game until NOW. I would not give a review until I could list I FINALLY got my X game.
My word of advice is simple. START REINSTALLING.
I appologize that this review is not really helpful for those waiting for the 4.0 update but its coming

I JUST BEAT THE GAME for the first time since RELEASE hahahaa The plot is no longer BROKEN !!!!!

REINSTALLL

Dont believe the "Hey guys come back it`s great now with 4.0" It still is the same x rebirth that we all gave up on two years back. Gfx are not sharp and anything like they should be even on my old 960 card.

Yes they gave us a bulletin board, with broken or hopelessly one sided missions. Yep we have more zones to explore but whats there, NOTHING thats what, Hell one of them is empty bar Zens, A base and alot of containers.

Save your money mates, Buy Rogue System, Houses of a dying sun or even Star citizen ... And no Elite dangerous is still an empty vacuum of a game.

If you love Blade Runner and you love Space, you must get this. Seriously even if you never engage in the actual gameplay, the aesthetics and vibe of X:Rebirth is so strong with a good space version of Blade Runner. For flying around in space and exploring, checking out the intense detail of the stations and listening to the encyclopedia entries of every module of every station, this game delivers.

Something that separates this from most space games? There is consumer traffic flying around constantly (not just other fighter ships, but civilians driving regular space cars and vans on space roads and highways. This adds a huge amount of atmosphere to the game that is missing from other space games. The ambient AI always moving around while you observe the beauty of this living breathing space environment.

Second thing that separates it? Easy and good feeling mouse control. At night I play this on a freaking laptop trackpad okay? And the fact that I can do that is awesome. Most space games require something more demanding, some don't play well at all without a controller or joystick.

There is some wonkyness to X Rebirth - the first person bits in particular and they could really improve some of the dialogue with NPCs, I don't hate it but it has the potential to be much better. However not many space games manage to have first person control at all, so I am very forgiving here. There is also something very cool about looking off the balcony of a station in first person and seeing how large and cool the stations around you look from ground view. It is a welcome change of pace to have your feet on the ground when you need a rest from constantly flying around.

Egosoft has made an admirable attempt at restoring the general quality of this game to where it should be, and at version 4.0 it's in a very good spot. They have made some very meaningful updates and a lot of them make it easier to get into the game in general. Just be aware that you will only be flying one ship, unlike the X3 series. However the environments are so awesome that I was also able to forgive this.

X Rebirth is a very ambitious game, and with that comes some rough edges. But after these patches it's not so rough anymore, and for what they achieved with the vibe and detail of environments / stations alone, you have gotten what you paid for.

The Teladi Outpost and Home of Light are recommended to expand the universe further! Have fun space fans!

The only problem with this game is title. Most of X series fans considered X: Rebirth as the next game of X series. But it is better to call this game as spin-off from the X series. I hope Egosoft will make X4 as soon as possible with classical X2/X3 style and without old problems.

Some words about X: Rebirth

This game is good itself and it has many features which are not presented in classical X series such as first person walking at stations and seamless world. Unlike X3 in X: Rebirth you will see full featuired cockpit and a second pilot. Generally this part of the X series has very different gameplay.

If you fan of classical X series you may be not happy about this game but X: Rebirth is not bad - its just very different. I would not recommend this game for everyone who expect evolution of X2/X3 game,

I'l also notice that this game would be much better with VR support (for example, OSVR and HTC Vive).

First off, Get it, I think you will like it a lot epecially as its not nearly as expensive or load intensive as Eve Online or Star Trek...

If you're new to the modability of the X universe you probably don't know this but, the X3 universe had great components to it. It still had profound limitations that the raw Vanilla or un-moded program had that confined what a mod script could actually do. Like you couldn't make the text size bigger very easily...

Why? To many conflictual errors that bleed into other scripts. I imagine that XRebirth will still have parts that a mod can not change and will have to come down the pipe later from the dev's. For this reason, I will add all my comments as I have played with about 80-90 mods installed right now.

Pro's

GRAPHICS: See system info at bottom of review.
- This is a very immersive space sim, much more so than X3, and most other space sims ever could be.
- It's visually astounding in many ways w/(ULTRA SETTINGS) and I love that you can not only pilot ships but that you can move around them.
- I can't say anthing has seemed "glitchy", produced atrifacts, or caused the texture panels to split when you are close to them at just the right angle like a lot of open world games have issues with. It's refreshing in that arena for sure.

SHIP/STATION DYNAMICS:
- Stations are vastly more complex, beautiful, and formitable in combat.
- The change from weapon "energy usage p/sec" to "over heating" is and interesting componnent that makes combat more user skill dependent and less "cookie cutter" when piloting fully out-fitted ships.
- In the "skunk", M6 Corvette class, your 5 main assult weapons have their own unique applications and it makes for some more realism. Sometimes I'd switch to the wrong weapon and well, if I were a space pirate, in the heat of battle, I might just do that so.... again... more immersiveness.
- Sheilds, Engines, and Weapons can also be modified to fit your play style, tanky high sustainability, high damage dealing but overheats quickly, agile and fast shotting or a mix of all.
- Combat, especially with regard to capital ships is much better. You can target individual weapons turrets, engines, and other ship components like radar to help ensure boarding opperations.
- Boarding opperations are also much more complex allowing you to disable engines and weapons before capturing.
- The addition of diverse and specialized crew holds a lot of promise as well.
- Drone piloting is much more fluid and clear. In X3 I had very little idea when or what they were doing.
- Scanner functions and Hacking give a modicum of chance regarding profiterring, treasure hunting, and sabotage.

GAME PLAY:
- The story line seems decent and the missions that are available have greater realism.
- I have only logged about 35+ hrs but, have found it to be very fun and awe-inspiring.
- There are many worth while mods now that give the game greater depth, character, ease of interface, diversity, and fluidity.
- Most of the Vanilla music while flying is great at setting more immersive ambiance.

Neutal's
- Having to scan all the parts of a station is tedious for sure. But, they look so cool! My favorite is the one with the mono-rail train transporting on top of it! They have unique sounds and characteristics that make the whole floating in space to investigate much more cool and worth the time invested.
- The addition of so many craftable items is interesting but, how does all that stuff not take up cargo space??
- Saved game and startup load times are substantially longer... maybe its time I got a SSD...lol

Con's
GAME PLAY:
To a large Extent the videos add depth to the main plot missions but they are overall lacking in orginality. I think more will come through mods... we will see.

SHIP/STATION DYNAMICS:
- The highways and station scanning are interesting components. Unfotuanatly, they necessitate "no collissions" being instituted. Infinitely bouncing off stuff with speed and size of objects being completely irrelevent, is gimmicky to say the least. It does distill the immersive experiance substantially.
- Where are the Boron?? They had some pretty cool ships. Especially with the "living hulls" mod...
- There do not seem to be very many ships in this version of the X universe yet. There is some diversity among races still but a lot of bleed over. As in, multiple factions if not all use the same sets of ships... maybe more comming?? Its been 2 years or more already...
- - - What happend to having "Wings" with different color codes?

- THE CREW INTERFACE:
- Needs a lot of work.
- I don't see how you can "lockout" the ability to command a MORE experienced but not full 5 stared engineer on your M6 from commensing 100% hull repairs and need to dock somewhere to use another, LESS experienced engineer...do they have access to full schmatics or something??
- The inability to command your docked ships crew at all when on a station is just stupid. That needs to change. Com Badge??
- The "Property Menu" was much better organized and complete in X3. Now, it doesn't show your personel at all, even though you have so many more types of them... why?
- - What would it take to be able to move piolts around?? Now, your pilot gets sold with the ship?? That is annoying...
- - Setting up a squad and quickly initiating commands has always been a problem in the Vanilla versions but this takes it to a whole new level. I have spent way too much time trying to figure out why I couldn't give commands to a secondary squad or crew memeber and only through the "details" menu under that persons info... Too many levels deep. What about a similar interface to drone selection?
- Why are your bargans with particular traders only good for that visit?? Too much to load and remember? I don't like having to do the more complex conversation stuff through the psudo-dice-rolling-manipulation-interface-thing everytime I wan't a deal. Especially with the 1-2 minute load times when mistakes are made..

HACKING:
- If you are going to hack something, you should have choices. I DO think it should be bouned to what a console can do but NOT in such that its just a general "Hack" that gets the pre-destined result...I'd like something like, I'm in, now what can I do, how much time can I stay in?

Having written this little book, a good number of the cons will probably be changed through mods. Those that can't be will hopefully grab the attention of the Devs to focus on for updates. They have already come a long way since its launch and I'm very happy to pay for this version of the game so far.

I got it during steam sale after 4.0 update. Ive got to say its actually really fun. It doesnt have the same level of complexity as the regular X3/X2 games but the simplified version does let you get a basic understanding. I wouldnt say its perfect compared to those, it does still have some bugs. But ultimately Ive found it fun to play so far and hope to support the makers of the game. The next one should be even better :)

I want to add that alot of people view it as negative because it doesnt have a really dense storyline, and is generall more sandbox-ish (no real end game). I have to say for what it does, it does well. Very few games with galactic trade that actually has outages and overflows also have space combat that involves hacking, boarding, and subsytems (you can blow out engines or turrets to disable a ship). The universe seems a bit scaled down to other X titles, but I see this as a great step towards the next game.:steamhappy:

to me i like it very much
-it has very nice graphic very many systems and places to visit

The learning curve for this game is **staggering.** It is not for the feint of heart. It has very many complex systems available for you to play with, but nothing in-engine gives you a really good grasp of how or why you would want to use these systems. You will restart the campaign, probably more than once. The character models are atrocious for a game of this era; for example, women are either bald, or have a hairstyle lifted straight off Bob from ReBoot, and they all look old (as in aged, not dated). There is a first-person navigation system when docked at stations where you walk around and talk to merchants and other NPCs, and it's really f-ing awful. There is a mechanic to allow you to conduct the vast majority of business from your ship, saving you from this, but it comes with a significant resource penalty. The story is also a mess with a protagonist who quickly becomes unlikable because he's making decisions with his ♥♥♥♥♥ instead of his brain, getting you involved in a lame war that you're not really equipped to fight unless you knew this outcome ahead of time. The HUD also lacks appropriate customization options, such as color or font sizes. There is an object targeting system which is not at all intuitive.

However, if you can gain proficiency in using and interacting with all the various systems and world-building available, there is a really interesting and deep game here; there's a lot of callbacks to great space shooters from the past like Freespace and Freelancer and the game's world is indeed vast with lots and lots (and lots!) of beautiful space scenery. The different systems in the game are convoluted, but they do all more or less work once you've grasped the logic. The game does have tutorials, but they're bleak and lacking in explanation as to what value the tasks it teaches you have in gameplay. Trial-and-error is going to be your best means to learn systems in this game unfortunately. The one thing I wish this game had but doesn't is planetary bases and missions. There's nothing in here like that, but there are still quite a large number of things to do and places to see, so it's not that bad in that regard.

I'd recommend this game at a sale price, but I have a hard time recommending it at full retail due to the steep learning curve that will probably turn off most casual players. If you want a space shooter but not something so involved, Strike Suit Zero is a better choice. But if you want a little Skyrim or Fallout with your space shooter and are willing to put in some real time figuring out this game's systems, it's worth a look.
