Braid is a puzzle-platformer, drawn in a painterly style, where you can manipulate the flow of time in strange and unusual ways. From a house in the city, journey to a series of worlds and solve puzzles to rescue an abducted princess. In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, and it is time's strangeness that creates the puzzles. The time behaviors include: the ability to rewind, objects that are immune to being rewound, time that is tied to space, parallel realities, time dilation, and perhaps more.
Braid treats your time and attention as precious; there is no filler in this game. Every puzzle shows you something new and interesting about the game world.

Probably one of my top 5 games of all times, and easily top 10.

Fantastic story with great puzzles. I am currently waiting a few years to forget it and be able to go back in and do it all over again.

I cannot recommend it enough.

Braid is short and sweet. It's one of those games where you wish there was more content because you enjoyed it so much, but also know that if it was any longer than it is it would loose some of it's spark. The puzzles are clever and the game changes up the core mechanic slightly each world, so not only do you solve every problem in a diffrent way,you also have to approch each problem from a whole new perspective. It's the same feeling you get from solving the first few puzles of Portal streched ever so nicely over a 5 hour campaign. It didn't blow me away, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't leave me more than satisfied.

Wonderful puzzle platformer. The relation between story and gameplay mechanics in the different chapters is astonishing, and the last level is hands down the most surprising and mindblowing experience I ever had in a video game. Honestly. It may not be all that cinematic or convoluted like in other games that are liked because of this, but for me there was a certain "immediacy" in the whole scene that only this game made achieved for me.

Excellent game. Honestly, for the current price, is a steal.

+ Very interesting and unique puzzles.
+ You can't die.


- It's rather short. You can finish it in 7 or 10 hours.
- IMO, the story is great, but the ending has something that doesn't get me.

This game is a jewel, some puzzle pieces are a headache to get, but they are worth achieving so you can understand the story. The story is really deep and had to look it up on internet to fully understand it.

Braid is a short and sweet puzzle/platformer with an quasi-innovative time-manipulation aspect. The ability to rewind time not only allows for intriguing gameplay, but also provides a good way for there to be challenging puzzles without the game becoming unnecessarily frustrating. If you like puzzle/platformers, this should be high on your list of games to try.

The game mixes elements of puzzlers and platforming to form its identity. And there is a comfortable familiarity to the game which should feel inviting to most gamers. It starts off mostly focused on thinking-based puzzles and then a little while into the game there does start to be some platforming aspects sprinkled in, where your reaction time and precision abilities will be tested. But for the most part it's pretty mild and not that hard. Again, the time-manipulation also helps alleviate some of the difficulty of the platforming sections. It works out so a large majority of people should have an easy time enjoying Braid.

And as you progress through the game you will unlock different time-manipulation abilities which will need to be used properly to complete your quest. So the gameplay evolves throughout the campaign, keeping things fresh and keeping your mind active.

There isn't much of a story to be mentioned, but the game doesn't really need one. There is a strong influence of old school platformers (i.e.: the early Mario Bros. games). In that vein, there is a basic purpose to your actions, but no need for a sprawling narrative. Your quest in Braid is to traverse hostile lands to rescue a kidnapped princess, what else do you really need to know. Also, there isn’t that much of an immersive atmosphere either. The ambiance feels very nondescript and purely functional. However, none of this is a bad thing; Braid is simply a game that is focused on gameplay, purposefully minimizing the other distractive aspects.

And so I definitely recommend you check out Braid if you’re a fan of the puzzle/platformer genre and are looking for a new game that focuses on gameplay. Also if you are someone who loves a real challenge, the speed-run achievement can give you a nice "run for your money.”

When the great movie critic Roger Ebert said that videogames are not, and will never be art, half the Internet rushed to convince him otherwise. Braid was one of the games they showed him as examples of art in form of videogames. He dismissed it saying he's not "persuaded that I can learn about my own past by taking back my mistakes in a video game", and called the story "prose on the level of a wordy fortune cookie".
There was hardly a worse choice of game to show the movie critic -- not because it's a bad game, but because it relies heavily on hundreds of hours of other games' experience, playing with it, twisting the familiar mechanics, betraying the expectations and subverting the rules. Hours that Ebert obviously never experienced, so the words like "Your princess is in another castle" meant nothing for them, and the subversion that came with them (I'm not going to spoil that) never connected to anything.
I'm not sure what the game's true story is -- it might be about the atomic bomb, or about a creepy stalker with a crush, or about time travel. What I'm sure is, it's about these hours we've spent playing Mario that suddenly turn inside out, showing that what once used to be a simple kid's fun can work as a mature artistsic medium, telling stories and bringing up emotion without a single line of text.

One of the best and innovative Indie games in history, Braid is a puzzle platformer that which is a very unique game.

Gameplay: Braid is a basic platformer but it gives you a very unique mechanic which is time travel. Anytime throughout the game you can rewind the game in case if you made a mistake or its required to solve the puzzle. Everything gets rewinded even certain enemies and collectibles. Collectibles are puzzle pieces which are spread throughout each world you will have to collect in order to unlock the next few worlds.

Story: I honestly didn't care for the story since the main aspect of this game is the gameplay itself. But from what I can tell is the story is told through books before the start of certain worlds and leaves the story to the player to figure out since it doesn't explain it directly. Therefore the story goes for immersive storytelling which IMO is the best way of storytelling in video games!

On your first playthrough you could beat the game in 3 to 5 hours but still leaves you to find all the collectibles you missed or you can do a dedicated speed run mode through certain levels or the entire game; try beating the game under 45 minutes, pretty tough...

Conclusion: Braid is a beautifully designed Indie game with a very unique platforming mechanics that if you are a fan of the genre you shouldn't miss out on this.

There isn't much left to say about this game 8 years after the fact. Yes, it is great and you should play it if you have any interest in puzzle games.

A lot of hipsters will tell you this is undeniably one of the most deeply thought out games ever made. Most hardcore gamers will tell you it's a bunch of crap disguising itself to be deeper than it is. There's a line out there somewhere. As someone who's into walking simulator's and artsy ♥♥♥♥ing games, I'm probably not gonna win many fans with this review. The truth is, this is a pretty good puzzle platformer, gameplay wise. And to be honest, not a lot of artsy games are very good at being games. The game that this was inspired by from the 70's, Trinity, was a deeply moving text adventure about time and the bomb, and the gameplay on that do not translate well, so it is actually better than it's inspiration in terms of, you know, being a game
The puzzles range from slightly challenging to slightly difficult, and you'll feel pretty clever solving them. That said, fickle companion is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t, and don't kick yourself for using a guide on a particular puzzle, some are very challenging. I am not great at puzzles and will admit I looked up two or three, just to see if I was on the right track.
As for the atomic bomb allegory, eh that's for you to decide. It could be a tale representing regret, but really, if you feel like there's some deeper meaning you're not getting, don't freak out, very few people actually think they have a grasp on the theme, and none of them can agree. If nothing else just know there's regret and no going back, possibly an atomic bomb, but definitely fun puzzles and beautiful music.
