Point of No Return: new gameplay mod, medals, multiplayer bots

As announced last week, we present you with our first major post release content update called The Point of No Return.

This update includes:

The “Capture Point” mode:

  • A completely new game mode for The Red Solstice where you have to secure important strategic points all over the map.
  • Points vary in difficulty and can award you with different buffs and supply drops that may even contain legendary items!
  • Face off against increased wave and enemy strength!
  • To survive this onslaught you’ll start out with an increased energy level.
  • Capture Point mode can be played in addition to other game modes, or completely by itself, where each match can take from 20-40 minutes.
  • This resulted in us removing the wave cap, thus ensuring that the Evac item can still be used after wave 15.

  • You are now able to earn a wide range of medals (more to be added in future patches).
  • A lot of the medals are hard to earn and will require a serious amount of expertise.
  • Each medal that you earn will improve a certain portion of your character’s abilities.
  • Only the best marines are good enough to earn all the medals!

Multiplayer controllable NPCs, phase one:
  • You´ve asked for them, so here they are!
  • Free lobby slots can be filled with your Survival mode NPCs.
  • Each player can control up to three NPC.
  • You can freely switch between your Marines, use their skills, and manage their inventory!
  • Additional options for NPC behavior and control are under consideration and will be added in the future depending on user feedback.

Skill balance:
  • Due to the work we’re investing into the medal system, we’ve ended up balancing some of the skills and will continue to do so in the future
  • Demolition: Sentry drone will now shoot every 3 seconds (down from 7) while getting a 50% damage reduction (this results in an overall ~17% damage increase and a lot less overkill damage).
  • Assault: Precise module won´t reduce your health anymore and T1 sensors give a permanent bonus to your critical chance now.
Reduced grenade launcher skill delay from 0.5 to 0.1
Increased evasion on combat defense module to 5-25%
  • Recon: Universal locator will reduce speed by 50%,
Orbital targeting damage changed to 350-650
Seeker mine adds 35 damage to skill and item each level
Usability has 50% chance to give 1 additional item, or 5% to give 2 more stacks
  • Heavy Support: Suppressive fire changed, attack speed increases from 50-140%
  • Terminator: Nanite skills will no longer reduce any armor while transfering
  • Hellfire: Napalm wall consumes less ammo

  • For detailed changes take a look at our changelog or check the updated in-game descriptions.
  • Upcoming skill changes will be discussed on our forum. Don’t miss the chance to give us your feedback!

Numerous minor adjustments and bug fixes:

The old NOTD warcraft3 mod is back.
I love this game, especially playing with the devs
This game shines in multiplayer. Might not be very friendly for new players but after you get few concepts you will be very satisfied.
Bring friends on TS :)

The Red Solstice is a top down Tactical game. It has 8 different classes with different ways to inflict pain upon the enemy. Of those, roughly 4 of them have support abilities that make it easier for your teammates to kill the enemy, and 2 are about trying to keep teammates alive longer. Most classes have an option to take 2-6 different primary weapons and 5 different secondary weapons. You only get one primary and one secondary.

You will run around different (brilliantly designed) maps . There are four difficulties and 7 different game mode sub options, making for a variety of different challenges. Some being more challenging than others. In addition to this you get a squad rating based on the overall experience of the squad, making the game harder and unlocking new missions and bosses.

Or you will complete a series of very tactical (almost to the point of Turn based strategy) single player missions

You generally run around the map looting items from lockers and the ground, killing mobs, and leveling up your character (MOBA style without PVP) while heading to mission locations. A game going to competition takes about 1 hour with fast mode option on, 1:15 without fast mode on.

The sound track on the game is interesting for the first 50 or so hours, but with a non AAA game they cant afford to spend the time developing a full soundtrack for the amount of hours you will invest in the game. Expect to play on mute or with the volume down unless you love repetitve sounds.

Completed – I hope, The devs have officailly released the game but there are quite a few things that need fix'd for consistant gameplay, also there are multiple skills/components that may be fun to use, but often time make the game harder to play, I would like to see these updated into skills that are useful so you dont have one or two skills that are "must haves"

Multiplayer- its CO-OP. You can’t do whatever you want because your entire team relies on every individual in the squad. One person not doing their job properly will cause someone to die. On higher difficulties, two mistakes mean you lost the game.
Easy- If you don’t believe Loosing Is Fun, and enjoy pushing and developing your skills as a player, you will not enjoy this game.

If you want to buy this game, join us in the unofficial TeamSpeak, and ask us some questions to find out if its right for you. You can find the address on the forums. I’ll even start streaming for you to watch if you wish and I’m on, so you can see what gameplay is like.

Been playing this for a while now but only casually. If you're happy to be a follower and support the team it doesn't get too complicated but if you want to master any particular character it can become a much more rewarding experience albeit frustrating at times. My main concern is there will always be players who will put unnecessary pressure/blame when things go pair shaped - ignore these bullies and just play for enjoyment.

The more I play the more I enjoy the team work necessary to survive, each character has a roll and must contribute to the team. Once you master one character and find a good setup (yet to really do as I'm not a perfectionist) just swap and start experimenting with another character as you can definitely put in plenty of hours levelling up each character and get a different experience with each.

Got into it quite early in the Beta, when it was still a bit of a buggy mess. You still played it, because it was fun. The learning curve is nothing to laugh about, and it is not exactly the noobfriendliest of communities, especially some of the first players sometimes lack the nerves to deal with new players.
Once you get into it though, you will have an awesome experience. Highly tactical, once you get off "Soldier"-difficulty, relies 100% on each teammate.

By now the game has several different maps, playable on 4 difficulties and a handful of different modes that change up the experience like the "Red Storm" mode where you are weak when outside of buildings, but stronger inside, or swarm and fast modes that increase the pressure on your squad. All with 8 different classes, completely customizable with different weapons and abilities, that have to be utilized harmoniously to win.

Protip: Get a mic. Theres a central TRS teamspeak server, that anyone in the game lobby can give you, and coordinating an 8 man team is just so much easier with voice. Learning the game and getting taught will be 10 times faster if you go on ts with one or two of your squadmates.

The best way to get into it would be to grab a few freinds, put it on easy, and just jump into it. You will die. A LOT. but thats fine, and you will have fun getting to know all the different abilities and weapons before getting on with the pros who might be more interested in winning than teaching.

Sadly, this game has a very small player base, so don't expect to play 8 man games 24/7. There are high times each day, where there are usually 2-4 different games going on, but expect to do some waiting in lobby for members. However, this means that you get to know people very quickly, and if you are somewhat nice and don't harass people, you will be welcomed in the community.

The Red Solstice is a gamer killer game. :)

Hard, tense, with atmospheric soundtrack, this one is equally good in single player and multiplayer. But there's nothing better than running around with friends, trying to survive on harsh Mars terrain with so many enemies zerging on you. This reminds me on Dead Nation game that I loved playing in co-op but TRS is much bigger and better.

Highly recommended. I bought it back in Early Access so the price was lower but there was no singleplayer at the time. Now it's a complete game with fantastic and responsive dev team and I hope it will get all the attention it deserves.
