The Red Solstice is a top down Tactical game. It has 8 different classes with different ways to inflict pain upon the enemy. Of those, roughly 4 of them have support abilities that make it easier for your teammates to kill the enemy, and 2 are about trying to keep teammates alive longer. Most classes have an option to take 2-6 different primary weapons and 5 different secondary weapons. You only get one primary and one secondary.
You will run around different (brilliantly designed) maps . There are four difficulties and 7 different game mode sub options, making for a variety of different challenges. Some being more challenging than others. In addition to this you get a squad rating based on the overall experience of the squad, making the game harder and unlocking new missions and bosses.
Or you will complete a series of very tactical (almost to the point of Turn based strategy) single player missions
You generally run around the map looting items from lockers and the ground, killing mobs, and leveling up your character (MOBA style without PVP) while heading to mission locations. A game going to competition takes about 1 hour with fast mode option on, 1:15 without fast mode on.
The sound track on the game is interesting for the first 50 or so hours, but with a non AAA game they cant afford to spend the time developing a full soundtrack for the amount of hours you will invest in the game. Expect to play on mute or with the volume down unless you love repetitve sounds.
WHAT THE GAME IS NOT
Completed – I hope, The devs have officailly released the game but there are quite a few things that need fix'd for consistant gameplay, also there are multiple skills/components that may be fun to use, but often time make the game harder to play, I would like to see these updated into skills that are useful so you dont have one or two skills that are "must haves"
Stable – Crashes have plagued this game throughout its lifespan, although its current state is better than it has been. Right after release I had a long series of crash to desktop// other erros. The Developers adressed the fairly quickly and its more stable, however there are still some serious issues with mob pathing and activity (holers unburrowing correctly when they should)
Multiplayer- its CO-OP. You can’t do whatever you want because your entire team relies on every individual in the squad. One person not doing their job properly will cause someone to die. On higher difficulties, two mistakes mean you lost the game.
Easy- If you don’t believe Loosing Is Fun, and enjoy pushing and developing your skills as a player, you will not enjoy this game.
