Version "Zomboned!" Released

We're back with another great update for you! "Zomboned!" sees the beginning of Zombo being animated by our new animator, along with decal fading, tweaks to the Oculus boss fight, even more gibs, and plenty more! You can check it out in the update trailer right here:

  • Began animating the E1L4 miniboss, Zombo! He's by no means finished, but there's been a significant amount of progress.
  • Decals can now fade both their color and transparency over time. This has been applied to the missile and blood decals.
  • Made numerous tweaks to the Oculus boss fight. It should be more interesting and more fair now.
  • Added additional and improved gibs for the Arcturan soldiers.
  • Fixed a collision bug that made it difficult to consistently get an extra boost from jump pads by holding the jump button.
  • Added both a "Browse Workshop" and "Reset" menu item to the "Workshop Content" menu! This allows you to browse the Steam Workshop from within Wrack itself, and should you subscribe to anything new, reset the list and play that content immediately!
  • Added background sounds for both the Recycling Center and Fusion Plant.
  • Monsters now turn more smoothly.
  • Players now turn more smoothly to face their view target.
  • Monsters now turn over 15 frames instead of 8.
  • Brightened the switch textures, pulse cells, and seek soldiers.
  • Fixed a weapon rendering issue that prevented the outlines from reaching the edge of the screen.
  • The QuakeAttack() AI script command no longer takes a screen shake amount argument. Instead, it returns true if the player was affected. DoScreenShake() can now be used to achieve the same effect as before.
  • Added the DoScreenShake() AI script command. It functions exactly like the weapon script command of the same name.
  • QuakeAttack() no longer tries to damage objects in range if the "damage" argument is 0.
  • hud_displayposition now displays the player's angle/pitch as well.

Minor Update "Still in Color!" Released

Relatively minor update this week. I didn't want to overhype it with the usual trailer and whatnot. We've got some great stuff in the works though, and next time we'll have a nice juicy update for you. Promise!

Here's what's new in this one:

  • Added a drop shadow to most of the game's text. It's prettier now.
  • Implemented new program icons for both the game and the editor.
  • Added a new lightning column sound effect that plays on levels 6, 6', and 7.
  • Added some lava sound objects on level 6 that really should have been there in the first place!
  • Slightly brightened the HUD graphic backgrounds.
  • Updated the loading screens along with the frame.
  • Updated a couple of sound object names.
  • Moved the sound objects to the "Sounds" category in the editor (previously in "Misc").

At first glance:

And here's what I'm going to tel you, ~17 hours in:
>it's a true oldschool FPS
>levels are designed to be mazelike
>no regenerating health, traditional hp and armor instead
>you move at 50mph and can straferun
>there's a ton of secrets
>including ones hidden in hazardous areas and behind fake walls UNF UNF UNF WHERE IS IT
>in general the game rewards you for exploration and backtracking
>it has Skulltag powerups
>your melee is insanely powerful but requires timing to be effective
>guns have no recoil
>pistol has no spread
>shotgun is a beast
>there's a bloody plasma gun
>bazooka ♥♥♥♥ing obliterates everything
>it looks like a better verion of XIII in terms of its graphics
>music was written by Bobby Prince, the guy who did music for Doom
>there's a ton of enemy variety and you have to think fast to kill them efficiently and not die in the process
>there's a boss fight like every two levels
>you get points for completing the level under par time, killing monsters, finding secrets and treasure
>there's a chain/combo system whereby you can earn additional points for killing monsters in quick succession one after another
>no hitscan enemies, meaning you can dodge literally everything they throw at you
>if you die it's entirely your fault, the game is 100% fair
>the game does not hold you by the hand, rather it tries to chew it off
>medium difficulty might be actually challenging
>hardcore difficulty is molesting
>♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficulty is a very brutal ♥♥♥♥ where you will die in two, maximum of three hits
>the protagonist is not a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ beefcake spewing out one-liners on every possible occasion
>there are time and score attack modes
>visuals never seen in an FPS of this kind
>you can clearly tell what's happening as there's no visual clutter to obstruct your vision
>IT HAS AN FOV SLIDER (which defaults at 90 and goes up to 110)

It's as if Doom with some of Quakes platforming had sex with Megaman and made this game.

Now this is the kind of "Proper" old school corridor shooter with sprawling levels and a multitude of constant enemies I've been missing. The menu has FOV options and there are actually Quick save/load features by default (GASP!)

Was quite humorous so far, I cracked a smile at several of the loading screen 'tips' and the graphic novel style cutscenes are something I always enjoy.

This certainly scratches the itch that I've had for these types of old school 90's shooters that certain other reboots (Shadow Warrior) seemed to miss the point of entirely by turning them into 'painkiller' arena shooters instead; can't wait for this one to be done and out of beta ;)

Wrack is a very addictive and fun game so far. I've played about 2 hours' worth; and I have yet to see one flaw. Very well put together for being in Beta, and I HIGHLY recommend this game. Once you start it, it's hard to put down. Plus, it has the same composer as the guy that composed Doom. What's not to like?

Just 20 minutes into this game and I already love the hell out of it. Carny and his furry friends may have been very lazy with the achievements to not give them any real emblems that would actually make them FEEL like achievements, but hell, the gameplay, story, characters, enemies, and weapons really make up for it. Carnevil, you and your pals did a great job.

EDIT: Though some of the game isn't done yet, I would still recommend checking this out.
