Update 25: Chameleon



Good Morning/Afternoon Marines!
This latest update to Interstellar Marines increases the value of your Combat Points (CP) by offering unlockable skins allowing you to blend in, or stick out, as much as you’d like.

Update 25 also adds a shining new menu interface and we've revamped the Introduction mission to include some of our new features.

In its new iteration Hell Week has been renamed Wargames, a more fitting name for our co-op, singleplayer and player-versus-player sandbox combat simulator in the making.

We’ve tweaked the server settings and added a new Wargame called Scavenge, where you can collect combat points 24/7. But look out - You are up against 128 bots as well as all the other skilled and tactical players!
  • Scavenge wargame is 55 minutes long.
  • Scavenged CP’s are collected when wargame ends.
  • Unlimited respawns



We’ve updated the Introduction mission to make sure new players get a more consistent first impression of the game and the features currently available. Revamped sections are shooting range, stealth test, crashed dropship mission simulation and we added a fun little stress test and maybe an Easter Egg or 2.

Update 24: Merry XMayhem



This update brings some new features, some returning content, and fixes. The Annual XMayhem mode has returned once again with the special achievements unlockable only during the event. We also have a brand new map created by Auxsiren that’s a complete overhaul of Evacuation (Evac 1 will still be playable in the map pool). There are also now special camos for CTRs that you can see specifically per map, this is a big step to add in player skins. Included as well is a new party system included to help you team up with your friends, chat with them, and more. Finally there are fixes for bugs as well as the crashes from last update.

Known Issues

The Welcome Tutorial achievement is not working (due to an incorrect setting in the map)
The gamepad implementation is early and experimental, so may cause issues
When viewed up-close, some CTR heads may increase in size
Some vegetation appears to have black edges
The number of players in the Friends Lobby may not update until the lobby tab is clicked on
Players may sometimes fall through the floor of a map
Standing in a doorway when the door closes may result in the player being pushed vertically
The HUD names and kill messages will be clipped on aspect ratios that are less wide than 16:10
The game will stop updating when switching out of fullscreen in Windows. If you are on a moving elevator or platform, this will cause you to fall through it. If you are in a Party, this will disconnect you from the Party
View jittering may occur when jumping on lossy networks
Other players will seem to float above or interpenetrate while standing on a moving dynamic platforms (network smoothing will exaggerate this effect)
Player may sometimes spawn with no ammo in one or both weapons. Reloading fixes this

Since man first raised his head to the stars above, he has dreamed of conquering space. Interstellar Marines is the age old dream come true. It is the dawn of the 22nd century, a time of great hopes and expectations. The discovery of a new and inexhaustible well of power known as Zero Point Energy has revolutionized space travel. Man has escaped the confines of Mother Earth, and gone on to colonize the solar system.

But far away from public awareness an ambitious military project has already taken Man beyond the final frontier, and into the regions of the stars. The powerful Interplanetary Treaty Organization, ITO, is secretly constructing the first human settlement in another star system. You are a new member of the Interstellar Marines, a secret battalion within the ITO special forces created to protect humanity against potential threats from the confines of the unknown universe.

New Hell Week Event

Featuring 9 New and unique areas where 64 players battle until only 4 are left standing! This event runs every 3 hours in each timezone, so there’s always one somewhere in the world starting at the top of every hour. We also have a Steam Leaderboard for Hell Week here which tracks Combat Points globally, monthly, and survivors of Hell Week. We'll let you know more about Hell Week Finals when it’s ready.



7 Singleplayer/Co-op Missions

Play 5 co-op and single-player missions against unscripted AI with dynamic environment effects or two pivotal missions inside the Interstellar Marines universe, The NeuroGen Incident and Assault on Starcrown Aerospace. Play singleplayer or co-op with up to three friends in intense action with more co-op and singleplayer missions to come!

9 Unique Multiplayer Maps Across 3 Game Modes

Take your friends out in Deadlock, Deathmatch, and Team Deathmatch on maps featuring dynamic environment effects such as time of day, rain, thunder and lightning, emergency lighting, fire alarms, moving platforms etc.

Realistic Simulation

With a physics-based dynamic character controller there are no floating hands, and you can even see your feet! The physically present combat helmet has a HUD projected onto the visor and is affected by dust, rain, fogging, and damage. Aim down the sight for the long shots and use the tactical laser to assist aim when hip firing, as there are no artificial crosshairs to break immersion. Use the intuitive crouch and cover system; spacebar (default) peeks over cover, and looking down leans you forward to see over ledges. You can also shoot out the lights and prowl in darkness, or use the tactical flashlight if you’re afraid of the dark.

I bought this for myself a while ago. It's that game you buy, forget about for a few months, play it all day one day, then forget about it for another month. Each time I log in there's a new update, but there's still a lack of content. Don't get me wrong, this is a very etnertaining tactical FPS and it's fun. It just seems...empty. I'll keep this as a thumbs up as long as the regualr updates keep rolling in.

The road to [development] hell is paved with good intentions.


I've seen my fair share of early access cash grabs, and this game had some of the most exciting and enticing broken promises of them all. To me it doesn't really matter whether the devs meant to disappoint us, they promised a game and we gave them money for it, and now the project is out of funds and dead in the water. Color me an optimist for not getting a refund, but I would not recommend this purchase for anyone but the extremely bored, or those who feel like they just have too much money lying around.

There's a lot of good concepts here, but little actual game. I only hope that investors will take this unexecuted sketch of a game and give it the budget, resources and studio it needs, on a different IP.

If you've really got nothing else to spend money on and are looking for a few hours of intense tactical gameplay, go for it. But even at 10$, you don't have any other reason to buy this aging early access nightmare. Best of luck to the devs.

EDIT: I did a bit of research after writing this and found that the game was actually announced *11* (ELEVEN) years ago. That's right, this game has been around for over a decade and there still is nothing to show for it. The most recent update as of May 21st 2016, rather than adding anything meaningful, added a new Main Menu UI and weapon skins, and the option to vote on what map you would like to play when your current round is over. Two months for weapon skins and a new main menu. Sorry folks but I don't think that asking for something other than that is very unreasonable at this point. Please don't drop money on this until the devs have some actual, functionable content ready.

I read a preview for the game I want to say around 6-7 years ago in the back of a magazine at the library. It detailed what the developers wanted to do and how they wanted to do it. Fast forward 6-7 years and so far we have a slightly above average multiplayer TDM/Domination game put together in Unity. It's above average because they've obviously spent quite a bit of time and money putting the game together, there are some neat ideas in regard to how guns handle and how you move. The sound design in particular is very well done, especially noting the differences when you play with your helmet on or off. I purchased the Spearhead Edition for $45 on their website back in 2010 when I was back in college, back when the game was only playable in your browser and was only a few sets of target practice modes. If the game had been released shortly after, even 2-3 years later, then it would have been fine. However, that is simply not the case for Interstellar Marines.

The bad parts are, like I mentioned earlier, that this game has been in development hell for what will be coming up on a decade now. There has been numerous issues, engine changes, failed crowdfunding attempts, "accidental" key giveaways that gave people who purchased the game all of the special legacy upgrades that people who paid $40+ five years ago originally had (Spearhead Edition benefits). They say the concept is to have an "indie-AAA" where the production values are AAA while being "published by the community." This is absolutely fine, and it's worked for many other developers and games.

This title, however, has been in development for *years* and the only progress that has been made is adding a relatively uninteresting multiplayer component (You would be *very* lucky to find more than a dozen or so people playing, even on their "Hell Weeks") and a few uninspired singleplayer missions that revolve around you shooting robots, collecting a handful of keycards, and racing to the endpoint. This would be fine, but the amount of content, and how ultimately boring it turns out to be, is just not worth your time. The environments are nothing more than large empty hallways and open rooms, with a handful of fences and doors. Nothing stands out, nothing is memorable. The robot AI consists of them walking in a straight line and trying to hit you, but they're slow, which means you can easily kill them before they get close. About 4 years ago they released a standalone "museum" type level that showcased a variety of enemies and environments, none of which have been seen anywhere else in any other part of the game.

The community essentially being dead is the big kicker at this point. Whoever is left defending the title at this point seem to have a fixation on making sure that there is nothing negative ever said about it. If you check Youtube, Steam communities, etc, you'll see quite a few people going on about "FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME", which is a phrase the developers came up with in regards to them developing a very generic coop military space shooter. ZPS has done a phenomenal job of doing the bare minimum of development and making it out to be part of a massive game changing update. I used to receive weekly emails that amounted to them saying:
"UPDATE: Gun model revisions.
UPDATE: Tweaked pistol sounds
UPDATE: Added laser sigh, have fun ;)"

It's kind of odd to say the least, the devs have been somewhat forthcoming and open about the development process, and they do stay in contact with what little people still have faith in them. But beyond all that as I mentioned before you aren't going to find a lot of people playing the multiplayer, even during peak hours it's practically impossible to find a full match, don't even get started on trying to find one with decent ping.

All else I can really say is: It's your money, it's $10, the game has been in development hell for years and I cannot in good consciousness recommend that you spend your money on this. At this point, it's not worth the $40, and it's barely worth $10. If ZPS can somehow pull something major off then props to them, but the game is just vaporware. I doubt I'll be able to get my money back since I purchased the game 7 years ago and I doubt they still have records that I bought the game in the first place.

This game has or had potential.
Pros:
There is solid gameplay in this game.You feel like a space marine.There is a few guns that you use.This game also has a big premise on Flashlights,Laser Sights and Stealth.When I played this game,I felt like a true marine or some military personal.The sound is ok,I guess and the game looks really good.But that is about it on the Pro's of this game.

Cons:
There is no story just "Hey you are a Space Marine.",you just complete training courses.This game somewhat plays like a DOOM or QUAKE game.You need a key to open a door,however there are multiple keys in the game,that you have no idea where they are.However,in DOOM and QUAKE,it is close-quarters.In this game it is in very broad massive areas.There is no fighting Space Terrorists or aliens or anything.They also try to mix up the enemies but it just fails to do so.There are only 2 enemy types:Melee(Or Corrupted CTRs{Combat Training Robots}) and the CTR's with guns.There is no melee or anything.They added some customization but it does NOTHING.It only changes the uniform of your guy.

Multiplayer:There are a few modes for multiplayer.There is Hell Week,Co-Op and PVP arena-like thing.Most of the servers are empty and there is nobody to play.Unless you have some friends.The multiplayer is essientlly a ghost town.

This is a game with potential it is just not used correctly.

*sigh* 3 Years in Early Access, but still being updated. Very limited amount of content, but the only tactical shooter that takes place in a genuine sci-fi setting. It's hard to decide whether this game is actually recommendable because with how long it's been in Early Access, and how far the team still needs to go to meet the idea's they had when they originally showed footage of what they were aiming for, one has to wonder if they'll ever meet that dream or abandon it altogether.

I don't regret my purchase, because it wasn't all that much to begin with, but I would say that it offers enough replay value to warrant the price-tag.

Now don't get me wrong I really want to like this game but...

In it's current state? No. Not really enough in the current build of the game to keep me hooked, or even remotely interested to want to continue playing this game as I feel the devs are more focused on making the game pretty than actually making more content to keep this game alive. That said, you get access to about 3 guns and one "smg" is just a current placeholder for a pistol, you have about 2-3 campaign levels that have you fighting the same basic robotic enemies. Multiplayer is rather fun with a bit more diverse levels but just comes to be a laggy experience, and with the lack of guns and HUD you can quickly get lost and bored in doing so. With this is mind this game is very poorly optimized and runs at a persistant 15-20 frames for me with very choppy movement which further takes away from my experience. This game would be far better if Zero Point but their manpower towards content and optimization rather than putting things out that look pretty. Granted the money issues they've been encountering is part of what is holding this otherwise awesome game, but the main reason is they're not focused on what they want to do and just send out the occasional update with something random and calling it good until the next one. If the devs had a focused game plan with what they want to do then maybe I'd give it another go. But until then I suggest anyone who is interested in this game to hold off on buying until it's in a finished state.

Interstellar Marines, a great game, with few bugs and many growing awesome features. Despite its slow development, it is fun to play with friends, though I only have like three friends who have the game, it is also fun to play alone. Fighting them robots in the dark can be horrifying, especially if you have no idea where you're going; even randomly hitting the suicide button when you don't know the controls... I love opening and closing my helmet...

I tried this game when it was on its free week well over a year ago. I played for about 90 minutes before deciding it was absolutely worth buying (on sale at the time for $6.49). Having played it quite a bit more, it's easily worth the $10 they're asking.

Pros:
Unparalleled map dynamics (lighting, rain, fog, sounds)
Fast-paced, high intensity combat
Realistic-feeling recoil dynamics and gunplay
High level of difficulty
Looks great
Friendly community of regulars
Wargames and deadlock PvP gamemodes
Tough, tactical Co-op vs bots missions
Cool looking new player and weapon skins

Cons:
Not enough weapons
No 'nades
Hitscan bullets
No real story mode
Slow development (give them money!)

All-in-all, I think that with a few new guns, some grenades, and an economy system, this game could be like an improved CS:GO. Way cooler maps; much more interesting, dynamic environments; better, more realistic gunplay (though I wish projectiles had ballistics). An awesome platform for competitive team tactical play. It wouldn't even really need a story. It's just great FPS.

Not sure why people are so critical of the game. I love, love, love the immersive graphics. The single-player is a little scary to play, in a good way; alone in training and missions with AI robots who take their first chance to beep and sprint at you.

Where they are with multiplayer is great right now. Currently there are the standard single map team deathmatch, KOTH etc. servers that are really fun to play because of the immersive environment. When it rains you want to take the helmet off, gaining better sight but losing the HUD. It can also get really, really dark (zero visibility) so do you pop your flashlight on to see objects and walk around but then people will spot you or do you hide in the dark and wait for others to run around, hoping you can catch their sillouettes in the lightning flashes? Sound is really important as well, as it becomes the dominant sense to pick out people nearby in zero visibility. Really entertaining way of playing, making no two shootouts the same.

Also tried out the new scavenge mode today. Super-duper huge maps, really well designed, same as rest of game, where you start with a basic gun and a few bullets and you have to build up your armoury and points over time against the robot sentries and other players who are scattered around. The team play is great here, or you can lone-wolf and kick some shiny metal butt.

Agreed they initially advertised something different with the hype years back but they have come a long way and have a AAA quality game that now has a multiplayer aspect that keeps you coming back for more fun of a type I cannot find from any other game right now.

Last time I put it bluntly, but because there are morons on this review page that thumbs down negative reviews (I'm sure now we're at 3 years in Steam EA, they feel really smart), I'll go ahead and give my review a little more content. With more sodium.

When I first picked up Interstellar Marines, I was hooked instantly. I thought that there was no limit, and the devs fueled that feeling with vlogs showing things to be genuinely stoked for. The idea felt fresh in a genre where literally every avenue has been explored -- be it by big game industries or indie developers -- and that nothing came as a surprise. I waited for that polish to the game, and even ended up buying 5 other copies for friends to play with me and help the game grow.

"So why did you stop, why are you giving this game a bad review?"

Because these devs are slower than the skeleton crew updating DayZ Standalone.

Three years in Steam EA -- with plenty more behind that -- and what do they have to show for it? A few 'missions' and tweaks that should be done after you put in content needed to call this a game. I've seen game demos more complete than this.

I'm not sure if it's program regulations or your character just enjoys it, but you walk around like you have a giant metal rod up your ♥♥♥. It's clearly not beyond the dev team's capabilities to make a working movement animation or make the characters look convincing, just look at the robots running around.

Speaking of robots, aside from the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t multiplayer system they have in the game (try getting into a Hell Week lobby), did you know that they are the ONLY enemies you have in the entire game? After the initial fear of the unknown wears off, be prepared to delve into the dark with these bots either shooting at you or flailing their arms out you with some scream along the lines of "HOOOOUURRRRGH".

Three years of development, and they haven't been able to ship out a single mission past 'training simulations' for the real threats in space. I know a handful of people that -- given three years only -- would be AGES ahead of what this team has brought us in updates that provide no real useful content at all. We got a PVP/E game mode now. Whooptee ♥♥♥♥ing doo.

Maybe that was their message behind this game. That there was no alien threat and therefore we all look dumb, waiting to encounter alien lifeforms, weapons in hand. That's what I'm going to hope, because other than an overprice, sick, twisted prank, this game only stands as a pillar in reasons I don't EVER want to put money towards another game with an EA tag on it again.

Thanks devs for betraying our trust, breaking promises and dreams, and adding into the phobia of investing into an EA that becomes a waste of cash.

I forgot why i stopped playing this game aside from the lack of change, but i got a quick reminder when i placed a topic asking about the development and whether the old features are going to be added in.
I instantly got reminded; the community is small, but INCREDIBLY toxic and elitist. Most of the people that play this game are flashing their rank as if it is a real life military rank and they'll be sure to remind you of your playtime if you mention something that is not overly positive.
Stay far away from this game if you don't have friends to play it with; the existing community is cancer.

I've liked this game for a while but i have to turn in a negative review sadly enough.

The game was very promising with unique HUD features, voice features and co-op features (♥♥♥♥ing shark monsters), and the gameplay is pretty nice overall.

Sadly the game falls flat as it has been in early access for almost 3 years now (even longer before it hit steam) and the developers have failed to deliver anything surprising ever since.

I barely even know what they added, i only know they added in a SMG, silencers and maybe a map? (not sure).
So the HUD feature, being a helmet you can open at the cost of losing your HUD is pretty lame and useless, as it lacks a point of using it in the first place and isn't even shown on other players when they do it (laaaaaame).
There's also no immersive voice system in the game anymore, meaning you won't hear people use voice chat ingame with realistic echoing and objects hindering the sound.

As for the shark monsters; you're left with lame robots that run at you. Yeah..

I may sound pessimistic here but in an early build they had all of these features were in the game, sure probably not flawless but they were there, yet the developers decided it's more important to focus on cosmetic things and insignificant updates.

As for now it's a somewhat decent tactical shooter but it has no reason to keep playing, especially not considering the playerbase is pretty dead (no ♥♥♥♥ after 3 years of no special content). No campaign, no missions, no persistent rewards/stats, no nothing.

Basically the development fell flat and you shouldn't expect this game to reach full release with expected content.

Interstellar Marines is an immersive and addicting FPS that sets the bar high. The game prides itself with jaw dropping environments, dynamic lighting, and realism that will challenge your approach to combat. Interstellar Marines is currently sporting two missions in single player mode, co-op, and a plethora of multiplayer modes that'll keep you busy for a long while. It also handles extremely well on my aging hardware of 7+ years with impressive load times. The developers at Zero Point Software actively support the game with large updates and new quality content; even adding skins more recently. The player base is lacking but that's understandable for an early access. The game offers a healthy amount of achievements. Interstellar Marines plays like a finished product and, for $9.99, is definitely a must have.

its "kind" of a good game but it lacks content , like game with huge potential thats forgetten, also stale updates. will change this review in the future but for now i like it but it feels it needs more maps and a system where you can just host games

Yes, there are little players. Yes, it IS very raw. Yes it is in Early Acces for a long time.
BUT...
This shooter has a very strong base. It has an awesome sci-fi setting, interesting gameplay. I don't know why other people write negative reviews just because of some low budget problems! The only thing that makes me go "argh!" is the requirements. It said GTX 120 and around 4GB RAM as recomended but it has only 21 fps (which are rather stable) on GTX 330M (maybe because of M?) and 8GB RAM.
Overall Conclusion: Good game! Keep it up, devs!
P.S: Liked it from the first look.

This is just a old game now. I looks like it started development quite a while ago and nothing has changed for the 3+ years it has been in early access. At best is a really basic shooter at worst it is just plan boring.

Interstellar marines is gradually getting better , its going to take alot of time for it to becuase fully resealed, but i think when it will it will be great.

at this point i'am vary disapointed .i would like to get my money back. i have a feeling that this game may not get finished just like sandswepts game the deadlinger. in seven days i might delete this game from my game library. i thought this game was worth geting but now i don't know. i mean they did not put in land sharks in the game like they promised at the start of the developement of the game. i feel like that i wasted my money on this game all for nothing. well it's been a week and nothing the dev's are quiet i wonder can they please give us all a update to what is going on. if the dev's are going quiet that's not a good thing at all.

сей шутер был мною приобретен осень 2013 года, хоть я и не любитель кибер и прочей тематики не связанной с кромсанием живой плоти. итак игра была в раннем доступе, и взял я ее на сдачу, заинтересовавшись картинкой. зашел, поиграл минут 10. на тот момент был олдин лишь автомат. думаю, ну ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ец, поиграю когда ее побольше наполнят. и чет забывал, вспоминал про нее, опять забывал. ну и вот воткнул. с первого взгляда мною было замечено изменение, это добавление обучения. таклоое ебанутое и за каким хуем нужное я так и не понял. и кроме нашего автомата добавили еще один автомат, который стреляет немного медленнее и меет другой прицел. и еще добавили полуавтоматическую винтовку (назовем так). и собственно все. ну ладно думаю, хоть в этом торт, зайду ка на сервер, коор, мультик. че бы нет то. и О БОГИ, сервкерлист 10/10

ачивки всратые, посмотрел руководство-и понял, чтоб получить их более или менее нужно засунуть в ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ банку сгущенки ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
смысла отдавать деньги за эту игру нет. ну разве что пройти обучение.
