[2014/10/17] Update v1.0006 - A small bundle

Thanks to the game logs you ladies and gentlemen sent us over the last day or so since the last update, we've managed to find some more memory leaks and other errors which we could fix quickly.

One of the fixes is the ghost planet again. We believe we finally found the last bit that could potentially cause it to appear again. If not, well... we'd be very appreciative if you could send over your game log.

To make things go smoother, we decided to wrap those fixes up into a small update and release it to you so you don't have to wait for them.

There are some other various small fixes, nothing to write home about. Oh and ATHENA heavy weapon can now properly deal up to 10000 damage as intended ;).

More updates are on the way, of course!

[2014/10/16] Update v1.0005 - Chugging along, more updates coming

Time for another update ladies and gentlemen. I won't bother you too much. You can find the change-list below.
We're slipping back to the game and continue with our work to get the next update to you as soon as possible.

  • FIXED: An error in the Rift skill activation script that could potentially cause a crash
  • FIXED: Mission location on the Captain's log panel and on Mission info panel are now displayed properly

  • UPDATED: Reputation change system (when destroying ships, declining contraband drop etc.) is now completely controlled via script to ensure proper execution (Spg2\Scripts\AddReputation\...)
  • UPDATED: Increased the max available quantity of every individual commodities on all stations to increase potential trader profit
  • UPDATED: Tutorial pop-ups are now spread out over the starting campaign mission and linked to other events as intended (when first entering an asteroid field, when first encountering a derelict...)
  • UPDATED: Heroes/Bounties will no longer harass you while you're on a storyline mission

We do NOT officially support Vista, as is shown in the minimum requirements section (Win7 is minimum), but we do our best to keep it compatible nonetheless. PLEASE keep this in mind when considering a purchase. The current version does run on Vista though, but there is a special procedure for it (you need to opt into a special product branch) which is described in detail on the game discussion board.

Steam Workshop And Modding

Starpoint Gemini 2 is as mod-friendly as we can make it (although we constantly work on opening it up even more). Sharing your modded content through Steam Workshop is done easily via our Mod Manager that is supplied with the game. Check out the Workshop section to see what mods are already available!

It has been two years since the end of the second Gemini war, the situation in the wartorn system is further from resolution than ever.
The collection of freedom fighters named Gemini League is now reduced to a small group, with no power or influence, after losing their leaders. The Empire meanwhile, has used the re-opened Starpoint to occupy the once renegade Gemini sector - and beyond.



A multitude of Imperial warship fleets and mammoth motherships have crushed every trace of opposition. The situation was looking bleak, when they suddenly halted their armada and re-shifted their focus on fortifying Starpoint with staggering numbers. Rumours soon spread that they were afraid of something coming after them through the T-gate, from what was supposed to be the core of the Empire. 双子星座2抢先体验中,目前beta测没有故事线,希望它的故事线能做的好一点。现在能体验的是自由模式,不过beta体验也能经历到也许以后会减掉的很多东西。

玩了下自由模式。把开头2个任务做了,然后开始探索。自由度非常的高。而且虽然是在一个星系里面,但是一个行星到另一个行星之间,有时候是好多个地图块的,所以其实地图还算挺大,探索起来有很丰富的内容。你也可以尝试做不同的事情,在自由模式中找到许多种玩法。

空格可以切换驾驶模式,滚轮控制速度,右键开炮,所谓瞄准就是鼠标对准目标,船上聘用个炮手会好点,这种驾驶和射击的操作和x3是一样的。如果你选了目的地自动飞过去的话,自动跟随的模式记得要改回来,否则不会朝目的地转身。m是地图,打开后有黄色的任务点,左键接受任务然后去做就是了。太空站或者星球要停泊的话,也是左键选安可。尽量在地图里点选,不要在场景里随便锁定人家。你可以在场景里选好方向按鼠标中键点喷子,然后就朝那里一直飞一直飞(无视电容?)或者地图里随便对一个未探索地方点左键goto,星门过路费很贵,一开始都是自己开图。想看看自己的banner或者拍拍照什么的,按v就能转镜头,+-可以调整距离,tab切换人称。技能物品那些就是数字键。其他键都在开篇教学文本里介绍了,我就不废话了。

游戏上手很快,掌握基本的操作就可以开始找乐子了,技能在太空站可以洗掉,所以随便试吧,不需要担心太多,按照自己喜好来玩就好。

要说这游戏吸引我的主要特色是无缝地图吧,还有工坊有企业号(赞),还是挺有趣的。期待继续增加新的内容,故事线我觉得不如做在自由模式里面算了,这样走走主线看看剧情,平时自己爱干啥干啥更好玩。

简评:各方面中规中矩的游戏,但在匮乏的太空游戏系列里却成为一颗闪亮的新星。
画面:9/10
出色的贴图、材质和特效以及诸多丰富的细节营造了一个近乎完美的画面,我想在多屏输出上画面会更加出色!
游戏性:8/10
丰富的支线任务、交易系统以及声望设定为目前游戏主要内容,RPG升级设定是游戏的一大亮点。但由于还在测试阶段因此并没有丰富的主线任务,目前只有一个自由模式,可能对于喜欢剧情的玩家来说会失望了。
操作:7/10
操作方面简单容易上手,有些许不足,但不足之处还达不到反人类的地步,适应EVE和X3操作的玩家多少会有些不喜欢。
音效:7/10
音效背景音乐一般般,并没有什么出色的地方。

我是14.99美刀的时候入的,并且入的第一时间就沉迷其中不可自拔了,之前玩过很多太空游戏,但最终因为其繁琐的操作,混乱的界面、让人搞不清的玩法和糟糕的游戏体验而浅尝则止,在玩这款游戏之前一直在玩的太空游戏是X3系列,个人认为这款游戏在内容丰富性上不如X3,但在操作方面却比X3优秀,上手简单,战舰模型做的也很出色。总之,这款游戏我比较推荐喜欢太空游戏的玩家。

补充:这游戏的开发者非常友好热情,不仅回答论坛里玩家提出的问题,还积极回复玩家反馈的BUG报告,有这样的开发者,我想这游戏到正式发布的时候品质会非常好。
补充2:任务模式终于在正式发布的时候追加了,玩了一阵子,感觉非常一般,都是流水账式的任务,总体来说目前的价格不是太合适,建议14.99美刀入手,土豪请跳过这条。

First Impressions:
For an early access game this game is already really playable as the sandbox mode works just fine. See this game as EVE offline. You fly your own ship (which you can upgrade or just buy a bigger one) around a HUGE universe that has highway like wormholes and natural wormholes. You can also move around anywhere under your own power so just traveling on highways or through wormholes isn't a must. There are hints of fleets in thwere but haven't been able to start one, although you can already by extra ships and leave them in your garage.

Your Ship:
Upgrades for your ships are plenty and the weapon systems include, lasers, plasma cannons, railguns, missiles, and much more which you can freely add to any supporting hardpoint on your ship (light for guns, heavy for ammo consuming launchers). All upgrades and repairs happen on the station and I've noticed you really need to shop around the stations to get the best stuff.

Your Crew:
Yes, this game has crews as even your starting ship is more then the usual fighters you get in other games. There are 3 shipstations which you can hire crew for. The crew gives you boosts on weapons or ship systems like engines, shields and cloaks depending on their skills. Again every station/planet offers different crews with different skills.

Gameplay:
Random missions are generated all the time wich includes simple "go there and shoot.." missions, scan anomalies and bringing around cargo and passengers. You can visit many many stations (and planets) to upgrade, repair, hire crew, trade and lots more. The universe is very much alive as you encounter friendly and non friendly ships all over the place. Some sectors and stations really don't like you and can form a real challange when fighting in those sectors (enemy reinforcemants and stations blasting you). Fighting is mouse controlled, aim and shoot your light weapons by clicking the right mouse button and fire your heavy ammo consuming weapons with X. Also you can give the command "Fire at will" which will basically unleash all weapons on all in range enemies (this can be very much fun to watch while you just fly around avoiding damage with guns blazing).

Trade is already present in the game but is still in it's first stages so you get very little info on prices except for a news scroller that is viewable on every planet and station.

Development:
Patches are rolling out in a steady pace and the devs are very active on the forums (Post a question, suggestion or comment and you'll likely get a reply within the hour). This just gives you extra confidence to buy this game in early access and help in it's development.

Current Verdict July 18 2014:
Highly recommended early access game that is only getting better with each update.

*My above opinion still hasen't changed, latest update is again full of content. Recommend to pick up on current sale :)

Current Verdict September 16 2014:
Latest patches have added full controller support for fans of those things. Also the game is nearly complete as release is almost here, they've been busy with optimizing the game and adding final features, complete campaign/story mode is not finished yet but devs have indicated it's coming soon! (And in the past they've proven time and time again that they uphold their word!).

So still a big fat recommend from me at this final stage of early access.

So, you've played Freelancer, Wing Commander or Privateer. Its been years since these games were released and perhaps, for you, just like me, they left behind a massive void. I've leapt at EVERY space sim/rpg that been released in the hopes, that one day, they'll replace what I lost with Freelancer. Sadly they never did. So I saw this on the front page of Steam and thought, heres another disapointment. Well Starpoint Gemini 2...blew me away. This game is THE best space sim I've ever played and its in beta!!

Beta will always be beta, that said, this game is solid. When you read the description and see theres only a dozen planets, don't be fooled. The galaxy is ♥♥♥♥ing huge. Absolutely enormous. Open world to boot. No loading screens. Just you, your ship and the stars. There are some absolutely amazing locations, zipping through asteroids, cruising the nebulas...its awesome.

Theres a diverse choice of ships for you to cruise the stars with. Gunships, Corvettes, Frigates, Destroyers, Cruisers, Battleships, Dreadnaughts, Carriers, Freighters and freightliners. Each ship category has multiple choices and each of those choices allows you to build your ship in the fashion you want. Do you want a ship decked with heavy batteries, rain missiles and torpedos down on people. Do you want a majority of light batterries, decking your ship with railguns, beams or plasma cannons? Perhaps a ship that can deploy a large number of soldiers to board the enemy ship and take it over. Yea, you read that right. You can board an enemy ship, take it over and either destroy, loot it or sell it.

Perhaps the trade life is for you, with a vast hold and fast engines to shoot you away from the pesky gunships. Trade hasn't been completely implemented atm. In Freelancer if you remember, you could see what planets were buying what for what price etc etc. That hasn't been implemented yet so you have to find them yourself. Perhaps your a miner at heart and want to reap the profits from those floating rocks. Go right ahead, blast away. If you want a huge yield you can buy missiles especially dedicated to obtaining larger yields.

You can tailor your ship to fulfil what ever role you require. If you need more energy to fire you weapons, buy system attachments and upgrades to improve their energy reserves and recharge rates. Missing that little gunship too much, you can increase their accuracy or their damage against their shields. You can hack the enermy ship and disable their systems if thats the approach you like. You choose a career role. Each role has various abiliies for use that augment your fleet, turrets, shields, movement and various other cool things. Yea, thats right. You can build your own fleet to travel around the galaxy with you.
Sounds perfect for a bounty hunter right? Your going to need it to tackle the toughest bounties in the galaxy. You track the bounties yourself and take them down. Be warned though, they aren't alone and they're prepared to fight.

Seriously guys, I can't praise this game enough for what its doing. Yea, theres only free roam available atm but you can do WHAT EVER you want. Want to be a pirate, theres a huge array of choices for you and they're everywhere. You want to own your own carrier and deploy fighter wings, YOU ♥♥♥♥ING CAN!!! THIS GAME IS IN BETA and despite that, you can do soo damn much. I've crashed twice and that was in the first 2 hrs, since then, I haven't had a single problem. The galaxy is yours for that taking atm. I highly reccomend this game to all Freelancer, Privateer and Wing Commander fanatics. Even to those who are new to the scene. This game is so diverse and intricate in all its details...but god damn its so easy and simple to understand and master.
This game is in on-going development, if its this good already, I can't wait till its finished!!

总结:属于比较传统的太空题材RPG+射击游戏,各方面都中规中矩,没什么太大亮点和突破。目前是beta版,还只有自由模式可以玩,所以作为RPG游戏最重要元素的剧情究竟如何,目前还不知道。

具体:

1、可能游戏最大的亮点就是无缝地图,飞船有类似跃迁引擎的功能,可以尽情地逛地图。但是整个星图看起来非常不科学,只能说比较偏重于娱乐性;探索的时候,飞船传感器除了能看到范围内的敌人之外,对探索地图似乎没什么太大帮助,因为最小的星区组成都是一个六边形地图,只要进入其范围,就可以看到整个六边形当中存在的物体,似乎一下子就没有什么探索欲望了……
而目前看来,每个星区可探索的元素也不多,贸易功能可以看作是等于没有,所以等到正式版,剧情完成之后,是否还有继续玩下去的欲望非常令人担忧。但是不排除正式版有更多丰富内容的可能性,只是个人不抱太大希望……

2、自由模式除了探索,其他主要就是接随机任务,但是整个游戏框架基本没有跳出自由枪骑兵的模式,归根结底无非就是根据玩家跟各个派系之间的关系而生成的;不过总是这样接任务攒钱,非常容易厌倦。游戏有很多RPG元素,包括职业、技能、可以雇佣船员和雇佣兵等,倒是还有点代入感。

3、飞船的装备设定比较传统,槽位主要分轻武器和重武器,就是炮台和导弹/鱼雷之分。武器和引擎、护盾之类的几乎所有装备都可以升级,可以换船,大船火力更大、也更耐久,也就是说,整个游戏流程基本上还是小船换大船的节奏。可能我要求太高,EVE里面二级科技舰船这个概念实在太吸引人了……

4、画面方面很优秀,对配置要求也不高,飞船都很有质感,虽然飞船数量不多,但是设计还算可以。至于操作,可能一开始不太习惯,但是上手也不难,而且炮台是可以自动开火的,所以很多时候只需要操作船的方向即可。我经常使用的就是炮台视角,键盘操作飞船,鼠标控制视角,因为船身上每个炮位都有射击范围(细节处理很不错),所以需要经常调节姿态,颇有一番太空战舰近身格斗战的紧张感。

如果喜欢太空RPG游戏,不妨可以等打折的时候考虑一下。(因为还是测试版,所以以上写的将来都可能会有变动)
