The gaming industry is at its best when a developer manages to turn a personal story into an enjoyable game.
Papo&Yo is a wonderful experience: the gameplay is fun and gimmicky, turning the landscape and urban architecture into puzzles, thanks to all sorts of imaginary devices, the kind a child (or a talented graffiti artist :) ) might draw on walls. Many times I just surprised and delighted by what my next click did, never bored and always looking forward to the next area to solve.
The game looks and sounds just right enough to draw you into the world and the story it wants to tell. Just stand still in the sun, look around at the colorful houses of the South American slums and listen to the silence. And the crickets :) Just beautiful.
Everything feels organic, in its right place and I don't want to tell you anything more specific, for fear it will spoil your own experience. I'm just sorry I didn't pick this up sooner, it's been sitting in my Library for months.
Do yourself a favour and put a smile on your face with this gem.
