Early Access Update 5!

February 12th, 2014

Hi everyone! We lost a bit of momentum last month but we're trying to build up steam again with new enemies and levels and tuning!

Features
  • New enemy type - "Reaper"
  • New enemy variant - fido-that-drags-you-around
  • New enemy variant - "Bubbler"
  • new visuals for Heat (world 3 - 3) Also a slightly reworked level design. Enjoy being chased by a flamethrower on shiny floors!
  • new whitebox level Relay (world 4 - 1) (replaces the whitebox level Pillars)
  • new whitebox level Repeater (world 4 - 4)
  • Assembly and Focus have been rebuilt with the new enemy types and rebalanced to represent a better progression through world 4 - as a result their leaderboards have been reset
  • New music for world 5!

Fixes
  • Cactus now crash lands in the hangar, instead of getting caught on a hanger
  • Red Bombers no longer attempt to beatbox while inside black holes
  • The AI will no longer attempt to use your Pro Mode settings during Attract Mode
  • slightly more lenient chain extension rules for end of waves during local co-op
  • many tweaks and rebalances

Known Issues
  • When starting the game with "-popupwindow" in order to play in full screen windowed mode (in Windows) you will not be able to set the game to fullscreen mode, but the options menu does not reflect this
  • "Music Walls" still don't display anything when Music volume is set to zero.
  • Native Dual Shock 3 support in OSX is busted. It is possible to work around it using a control remapper that makes the DS3 to emulate an xbox pad or similiar, and we are working on a proper fix
  • Shadows are missing on certain integrated videocards under Linux
  • Native Steam Controller support coming soon

Take on the role of Cactus, an enthusiastic police android, who responds to a stranded space freighter only to discover it under siege by its malfunctioning robot workers. Cut off from the outside and in over her head, Cactus and the androids she recruits along the way battle through the crippled Genki Star to reach the brain of the ship and put things right before it's too late.

Early Access Roadmap

Assault Android Cactus already has a very solid foundation, but there is a lot of content left to go in to the game before it can be considered finished. We want to get real player feedback as early as possible so that we can make the best decisions about new levels, modes, and characters that will appear in the final game.

These are some of the features we'll be building over the next few months:

  • Full Featured Campaign - An additional 10 levels including 3 boss battles will be added for a full 25 level Campaign mode along with intro & outro story scenes.
  • Unlockable Characters - Help us design and test the crazy/unique weapon sets for our extra playable characters.
  • Rewards System & Bonus Content - Earn rewards points for clearing levels and unlock codex info, concept art, and EX Options like Retro Camera mode that completely change the game.
  • Leaderboards & Steamworks Integration - Full leaderboards for each level and friends score displays on the level clear screens, steamworks support for cloud saves and trading cards.
  • New Enemy Types - Over 6 new enemy types will give zones 3, 4, and 5 unique challenges to overcome.
  • Additional Game Modes - Endless Mode will give you an infinite high score challenge akin to arcade classics while Boss Rush lets you take on the giant robots one after another in a single level.
  • Customisable Controls - Complete remapping for control pads & Keyboard/Mouse configurations.
  • Additional Powerups - New Red, Yellow, and Blue Powerups to keep the gameplay fresh and interesting.

You can help us make these features great by reporting bugs and giving us lots of feedback, so please post your experience and thoughts on the forums.

Super fun game and if you have other friends playing the game aswell it can get VERY competitive. Gets addicting and is very rewarding after you S+ that one level that takes ages (I'm looking at you Furnace). Would reccomend to everyone that is a fan of twin stick shooters with elements of bullet hell. Incredibly addicting.

Tight controls, well-designed stages, characters that completely change up how you play, kickass music, addictive score-attack gameplay, fantastic kinaesthetic, there are virtually no bad things I could say about this game. Just go buy it. It's good, and the devs are awesome and interact with the community so much.
