7.10.15 Update - features and fixes

  • Soundtrack now includes FLAC - anyone with this DLC will find an additional directory inside their game directory
  • Credits are now earned on Battery Depleted (stage loss) during the campaign and when restarting / quitting stages
  • Credit earning rate has increased slightly
  • (Windows / OSX) Gamepad disconnection detection - the game will attempt to pause and offer a chance to reconnect the controller or migrate to a new control device
  • In co-op, if a player other than Player 1 pauses the game, the pause menu will say who it is so you can yell at them to unpause the game and keep playing
  • added an Accessibility menu under Options
    • Fire Mode - able to switch to Inverse fire. The character will fire their gun all the time and only stop when the fire button is held - intended for anyone experiencing discomfort from holding the trigger for long periods
    • Colour Filter - filters that may increase game readability for players with limited colour perception (this is an experimental feature)
    • Enemy Hit Flash - to reduce the intensity of the white flash effect on enemies
    • Screen Shake - to restrict screen shudder to Events (eg, stage transformations, boss introductions) or disable it completely
  • Small adjustment to battery frequency and Boss hitpoints when in 3 and 4 player
  • Small adjustments to Phase 4 of the last boss
  • Added a command line workaround for Windows 10 users who are experiencing phantom controllers and are not in a position to fix the underlying issue. Adding -p:1 to SET LAUNCH OPTIONS... will restrict the game to a single player

Fixes and Changes
  • Consistent enemy spawn rules for all screen dimensions. Extended resolutions (super wide screen) may experience enemy pop-in on some stages, but will now function normally without setting the -screens:# command line property (this command line argument can still be used to position the HUD better for multi monitor users)
  • Failing Boss Rush will no longer present the enigmatic "Play Advice" text
  • Attract Mode will no longer earn Achievements for you
  • Restarting a level after being Battery Depleted will no longer sometimes mute the gameplay sound effects
  • Fixed some cases where the Vorpal Blade could leave level bounds or place the character inside geometry
  • Fixed missing sound on Autoturret in Control (5-2)
  • On beating the game and watching the ending sequence through, the mouse cursor will no longer be hidden on returning to main menu when playing with Mouse and Keyboard
  • Avatar silhouettes won't show during stage enter animations, even when the character clips the ground slightly in a totally-not-a-big-deal kind of way

Coming Soon
  • Additional language support

Assault Android Cactus is a twin stick shooter that sees you progress through an overtaken space ship destroying hordes of enemies and bullet hell style bosses.

There is a selection of robots to choose between each with a very different set of available weapons ranging from the fairly standard gun of Cactus to the more bizarre bladed helicopter of Aubergine. Each character also has a more powerful weapon that can be used to destroy large enemies more quickly but this weapon can only be used on a rechargeable basis.
Each level is completed while constantly trying to look to recharge your battery which constantly depletes. This means that each level is essentially completed against the clock and death acts as a time delay rather than an all-out game ender. I love this mechanic and think it is the best idea to happen to the shooter or bullet hell genre in recent memory and I hope more developers take this idea on board as it makes death… something that happens frequently… into a managed penalty rather than the end criteria.

The game is extremely accessible to casual players and can be blown through in a couple of hours but achieving high scores can easily become an obsession as you look for the best strategies and best androids to complete each stage.

The level design is superb with platforms, conveyor belts and rearranging floors making the games level unique and engaging in what could otherwise be a repetitive game. The enemy design is equally as interesting with particular stand out types being the dog type androids who ground you in place and the swarms of insect androids that appear from the destroyed android hives.

The endgame in AAC sees you push for increasingly higher and high scores to gain better rankings. Gaining an S rank in a level, involves completing it without a single knock-down. S+ involves no knock-downs but also killing every enemy in the level in one long successful chain. This is equivalent to getting perfect in a guitar hero game or never missing a beat.

Overall the game is a joy to play and definitely one of my favourite twin stick shooters of all time. An extremely varied roster and wonderful charming presentation makes this a must buy for fans of the genre.

Assault Android Cactus is an action / arcade game very entertaining, offering many extras and as many as 9 playable characters, each has different skills!
The game is very good, both as regards the gameplay very dynamic and fun that as regards the features unlockable, that are really many!
In addition there is the possibility to play up to 4 players in co-op locally.
In short, Android Assault Cactus is a game cheap and offers a lot!
I would absolutely recommend!

This game is fantastic. One of the best twin-stick shooters I've played. The control is tight, the graphics are solid, the framerate is consistent, the music is great.

The stage design is excellent. I generally would have been fine with each room being a box, but the developers went much further here. Stages introduce new concepts such as traps, usable turrets, transforming floors. The enemies are surprisingly varied and there's even some legitimately cool boss fights that add more of a shmup flavor at times. I have no greivences with the camera system -- even Geometry Wars doesn't always show the full stage at once, I don't find that to be a weakness here, particularly when there are icons on the edge of the screen helping with enemy placement.

The best part, though, is that the androids all feel legitimately different. Each one has two weapons and I honestly expected them to all blur into eachother. This couldn't be farther from the truth. Some of the weapon combos almost make this feel like a different game, you're approach has to be adjusted.

The basic mechanic of staying alive is even fairly novel. You can "recharge" yourself back to life as long as you have battery power, which can be replenished with pickups after killing waves of enemies, but is otherwise constantly depleting.I've been surprised by how much I enjoy this setup and it helps give it that elusive "one more try" quality. Some people seem to feel this mechanic is unfair or cheap -- to me it's not much different than an extendable timer. If you kill enough stuff, you'll get more batteries.

The game just feels right; everything it does it does well. The main campaign is solid, but there's additional modes and some neat unlocks to boot.

Very highly recommended.
