Does Igromir need indie? - Нужны ли Игромиру инди?

Hello everybody!

First of all, today is one year since we released our game to Steam Early Access. This is not exactly the reason for celebration as we really hoped to release much sooner. But it is a year after all. We will make a 50% discount within a Weeklong Deals starting the next week in order to celebrate a bit. You can purchase our game with this discount from 13 till 19 of October.

We returned from Igromir 2014, the biggest game expo in Russia on Monday. We have mixed feelings about our participation.

On one side, it was great to interact with many players and journalists and we saw their enthusiasm and excitement in game process (Denis Lomako, for example, wrote many new notes in regard to the tutorial, based on players activity). It was really fun to wear medieval armor and clothes despite the fact that many people mistook us for cosplayers.

On another side, we had reached none of the goals that we wanted. About 500 people played our game in 4 days and we gave away about 1000 leaflets with the game info and just a little more than 50 game-keys to journalists and players, which came to us with coats of arms on their clothes (that was a little quest to get a key). However, it didn’t work out and there are no new reports about the game among players in internet. We talked to a few journalists and even did some video interviews, but not much materialized yet (maybe it will take some more time to play the game, it’s long :)).

Overall, we spend about 7,500$ including everything, that is not a small amount for us. The expo was fun but that was not worth the effort. People who came were not looking for a new indie old-school game to play, they were mostly looking to play colorful and cinematic games like World of Tanks or Assassin’s Creed – their stands were always full and lot of people waiting in queue.

We tried another expo – GDC Play before (was way worse). Probably, we should try PAX next time. We heard PAX was much friendlier to indie games but to go there we would have to find additional funds, so we have left will be spend for development.

Legends of Eisenwald on Igromir 2014 - Легенды Эйзенвальда едут на "Игромир 2014"!


Hello everyone,

we are going to Igromir (Game World in Russian), this is the biggest Russian expo. We are finishing with the last preparations and leaving tomorrow. From October 2nd to October 5th you can find us in the Pavillion 1, hall 4, c7. If you are visiting this yearly expo, please stop by!

We will show our new cinematic trailer. You will be able to play on our biggest map – Windfeld. We didn’t show this map to anyone yet. You can personally meet a bigger part of our team and look at our stand (we think it will impress you). And what an expo is it without some cosplay? Alexander, Nikolay and Denis and other members of the team will be in medieval clothing.

Come by, it will be fun.

Вы лично познакомитесь с большей частью команды и посмотреть наш тематический стенд (мы верим, что он произведет на вас впечатление). Без косплея на “Игромире” никуда! Александр Дергай, Николай Армоник, Денис Ломако и другие члены команды будут “косплеить” в средневековых нарядах.

Важно! Мы произведем на “Игромире” раздачу ключей Legends of Eisenwald тем, кто посетит наш павильон в украшенном гербом наряде. Совсем не обязательно, чтобы это был средневековый герб. Вы можете придти с гербом космического пехотинца из вселенной Warhammer или с гербом компании Ferrari на плече. Приходите, будет здорово. Ключей много, но ограниченное количество, поэтому спешите!

Do you miss old school RPG/strategy games? If so, we invite you to Eisenwald where we carry on the proud tradition of games like Kings Bounty or Disciples 2! In Legends of Eisenwald you will encounter a unique turn-based combat system and story driven campaign set in a low fantasy medieval world.

A Story-Driven Strategic RPG

Play through the extensive main campaign, containing seven scenarios, as well as a stand-alone scenario, The Masquerade. Each scenario, or chapter in the story, will take you to a new part of Eisenwald and present new challenges to overcome. The decisions you make affect how the story plays out with several paths and endings.

Original Turn-Based Battles

The combat system is heavily streamlined to create a dynamic form of turn-based battle that maintains all the tactical benefits of a turn-based system but a much faster pace of play that removes the frustrating moving between attacks.

Combat feels much more like an RPG than a strategy game but provides a greater degree of tactical depth and flexibility than similar games.

Low Fantasy Authentic Setting

Legends of Eisenwald is set in a believable medieval land featuring supernatural elements. Rather than the high fantasy worlds of elves and dragons, Eisenwald is based on the concept of how the world would look if all the medieval superstitions turned out to be true.

You’ll encounter witchcraft, terrifying creatures and mystery on your journey but the world is driven primarily by human motivations and politics rather than mystical powers.

Highly Customisable Heroes and Units

Enjoy deep skill-trees and multiple options for customising your character and army as you progress through the game. Choose from three distinct hero classes in the Knight, Mystic or Baroness and then equip and develop your hero and troops to your personal taste and play style.

Huge Game With More Than 30 Hours of Gameplay

A main campaign with seven scenarios as well as the standalone scenario of The Masquerade will be included in the game at launch, providing more than 30 hours of gameplay and a significant amount of replay value beyond that due to the non-linear story and impact on the combat from your choice of hero class.

Key Info on the Status of the Early Access Build vs. Final Release:

  • All the core gameplay mechanics are integrated and live, although we are still working on polishing and refining these based on your feedback.
  • English, German, French and Russian language support is in for the Prologue and Masquerade scenario. English, French and Russian support is in for The Way Home and Run Away scenarios.
  • Sound effects are mostly done but will be improved more.
  • No special visual effects integrated yet – final visuals will be much nicer.
  • We’re also aiming to integrate Steam achievements. Trading cards will be availalbe at the full release.
  • The final game will contain a campaign consisting seven scenarios including the prologue and will support English, German, French and Russian languages at launch. Maybe Spanish too.

Gusta el escenario y la ambientación, por expresar en apreciación a los modismos de epoca en "algunos puntos clave",

the mage class is stupid. he cant move. and a little spell of fire only near no lighting no fireball useless.
the game is useless for me. sorry i expect more. but see yourself and try.
the english and not spanish is another point.
its like heroes of might and magic in other engine. but the same. if you play heroes you already have played in this game.

Este juego es lo mismo que el heroes of might and magic pero sin dibujos, nada mas. y el mago es ridiculo, en fin ya lo vereis por vosotros mismos.

Don't get sucked in by the graphics! There is NO tactical deployment or strategy involved in the combat system here. You are only allowed to place your units in one of three ranks (tanks in the front, ranged in the middle and healers in the back). Your army is then lined up in the arena face to face against the opposing force to bang it out without any real need or ability to plan, manouver into position, etc. Why utilize turn-based combat then? There simply aren't decisions to be made on these battlefields. . . .

The story is awful. I cant understand where to go. You have to stand in the correct places on the map after finding them for the story to continue. Often times its up a steep mountaintop with no clue of a road. In the first level everything you built up to gets taken away. Then there is a troop chasing you so your time to escape is limited and the troop is undefeatable that follows you to each new scenerio. Other things are...what you would expect to complete in tasks is unfulfilling and a waste of time. The only thing I like about this game is the battle mode. But, you dont have all the characters equipment available in towns and often thrown into 3 or 4 battles one after another when you would expect to win. You have little to nothing to manage with and not much going on.

So far, a few hours in and I am enjoying the game. I haven't hit any major bugs.

-very good tutorial as part of the main campaign.
-solid foundations for the story (comparable to most games in this genre)
-logical game mechanics, especially during battles
-quality graphics
-excellent camera control
-difficulty levels seem to scale very well
- game does get tougher as you move on. Definitely can't rely just on the basic party.
-AI enemies in battle performs well
-modest amount of side quests
-developer communication is AMAZING. personal answers to almost every forum post, and obvious love for their product

-army management/specialization is fairly simplistic
-character specialization is through items and a very simple as well
-small army and small battlefield (by design). some could view this as a "pro" though.
-no easy way to prioritize quests. some don't update when finished, or provide enough guidance to pursue
-levelling is VERY slow

Well worth $10 at this point. I am enjoying Blackguards, which would fit in this genre pretty well. Blackguards is well beyond in most facets, but I feel with this game open to Steam Workshop, the game could become incredible. The developer support is key, but I imagine improvements will be slow for such a small team. I am happy to have bought it, and definitely imagine playing it even more as I am winding through the last chapter of Blackguards.
