Blade Symphony Community Mapping Contest

3 August 2014

Welcome to the first ever Blade Symphony Community Mapping Contest sponsored by fug4life, and deef!

  • The tournament will start NOW and run until September 3rd 2014 (one month long)
  • Maps submitted can be of any style, and users can submit as many maps as they'd like.
  • Maps created must clearly show effort was put in to be accepted (see map criteria). This is just to prevent people from submitting a large amount of garbage maps to up their chances at winning the randomly chosen map prize. (See prizes)
  • Each map submission can have two users as the creators (maximum) and the prize pool will be split between them, (each receiving a cape if they win one) so feel free to team up with a friend.
  • The maps will be judged by a panel of judgements (Tetrabor, fug4life, deef)

  • Contestants must have permission to use custom content not belonging to them.

Best Map
  • The Artist Cape
  • Any game on steam priced $50 or under
Best Map by a New Mapper
  • The Artist Cape
  • Any game on steam priced $50 or under
2nd Place by a New Mapper
  • Any game on steam priced $30 or under
5 Randomly Chosen Maps
  • Any game on steam priced $10 or under

Notice: No contestant can win more than one prize.

As a bonus, every entered duel map will be hosted on deef's cool server for attractive people (NA) and fug's teahouse (EU) for you and others to play on.

Communiy Prize Pool - Should anyone wish to donate
Community Prize Pool

The map criteria is pretty easy to keep the contest accessible, but we do have a few key rules:
  • Duel maps must have 3 arenas
  • All arenas must be playable in both 1v1 and 2v2 mode
  • Map design must be more visually interesting than a cube with the same texture applied to every surface

Simply publish your map to the workshop, then link to it in the appropriate thread.
  • Experienced mappers please submit here
  • New mappers please submit here
All maps entered to the new mappers category will also be considered for the best overall map prize, since just because you're new doesn't mean you can't be the best.

Wazoozles! :^)

"Blade Symphony is primed and ready to help expand the melee combat genre on the PC."
Capsule Computers

"Blade Symphony looks like Chivalry with elegance."

"When it’s a Dystopia dev’s new otherworldly duelling game, you pay attention. Especially when it’s looking quite so beautiful."

Über das Spiel

Prove you are the world's greatest swordsman in Blade Symphony: a slash-em-up featuring a highly detailed and in-depth sword fighting system. Face down other players in tactical swordplay, 2 versus 2 team duels, or participate in sandbox FFA game modes.

Choose between four characters each with a unique fighting style suited to how you want to play.
  • Phalanx, a fencer gladiator hybrid, attacks with long range stabs and a versatile array of side attacks
  • Judgement, a knight crossed with a samurai, uses hard hitting forward attacks and wide strafing attacks
  • Ryoku, a vagrant street ninja, attacks with break dance moves and a signature reverse blade style
  • Pure, an acrobatic wushu style assassin that attacks with flips, cartwheels, extremely mobile

Each character has four combat stances and over forty different attacks.

Pair your character up with a sword type to completely change your way of approaching combat.
  • Katana, cause massive damage when parrying your opponents
  • Longsword, a well-balanced, hard hitting and adaptable sword
  • Rapier, a piercing, high damage forward thrusting weapon great for parrying
  • Scimitar, a weapon based on turning and performing as many cuts as possible
  • Jian, an agile, responsive weapon great for combos

Tactical Sword Fighting

There are no unlockable advantages in Blade Symphony. All unlockables are cosmetic. You care about proving your skill and so should your game.

Every attack has openings that are determined in real-time and efficacy is entirely up to you. Did you start an attack too early? Turn away and end the attack in a safe location. Did your opponent stupidly use a lighter stance? Go in and punish him! By switching stances mid-combo you can chain attacks into your own flurry of death.

The fighting system is open for your exploration, you can dash, jump, do an air attack, land, swing sideways with a heavy stance, parry with a light stance, and then roll away.

Every attack flows from your blade in true three dimensional space. As does your opponents! Swords collide in mid-air and you will need good timing and aim to defeat your opponent.

Having so many hours on this game, I can only recommend it. Blade Symphony offers a very complex, deep and unique melee combat system. Also, Blade Symphony offers a huge competitive scene. You can currently choose from 4 different characters and 5 different sword-types. According to the developers content will be added even after release.

So this game seems to be pretty simple at the begining (at least i thought that). But if u play this for a while u can discover so many diffirent ways to play a charakter/ and the weapon, and u dont even have to unlock a single Thing ^...^. It may look easy but belive me it isnt. Its really worth its money if you like tactical and fast Sword Duells and if not? still worth having it :P
