Hey all, wow, I've never done an announcement on here before, but, I thought I'd drop by, blow away a couple of cobwebs, and invite all of you to check out my new game, Volume.

It's a stealth game, but one designed to welcome new players as much as reward sneaky veterans. We're really proud of it, and the community are already doing great things with the editor.

Thomas Was Alone est un jeu de plateforme Indie minimaliste, en 2D, à propos d'amitié, de sauts, de flottement et d'anti-gravité. Guidez un groupe de rectangles à travers une série d'obstacles, utilisant leurs différentes capacités ensemble afin d'arriver à la fin de chaque environnement.
Ecoutez des musiques incroyables par David Housden. Sautez à travers des rectangles méticuleusement placés par Mike Bithell. Ecoutez la voix off lue avec nostalgie et un peu d'amusement par Danny Wallace.

Thomas Was Alone raconte l'histoire des premières Intelligences Artificielles sensibles, et de comment elles travaillèrent ensemble pour, et bien, ne pas s'échapper tells the story of the world's first sentient AIs, and how they worked together to, well, not escape: Escape is a strong word. 'Emerge' might be better. 'Emerge' has an air of importance about it, while keeping the myriad plot twists and superhero origin stories you'll discover under wraps. We didn't even mention the bouncing. That'd be overkill.

Ce petit jeu minimaliste dans ses graphismes ne l'est pas dans son gameplay. Faisable en 2 à 3 heures si on cherche à tout faire, il est court mais ne pousse du coup jamais à l'ennuie ou à la répétitivité. Chaque niveau se concentrera sur un nouvel aspect, un nouvel élément de gameplay, ou combinera divers éléments présentés sur les niveaux précédents. Ainsi chaque niveau de Thomas was alone est différent, la difficulté n'est pas bien élevée mais la frustration est ainsi absente, et on pourrait croire qu'il serait dur de faire un jeu dont les personnages contrôlés sont des rectangles et des cubes, mais ils l'ont fait, et il est bon. J'en garde un très joli souvenir et je suis content de l'avoir fait :)

Très bon jeu, simpliste dans la réalisation mais inventif et agréable au niveau du gameplay ! Le jeu ne vous bloque pas (à l'instar des Super Meat Boy et autres VVVVVV) ce qui rend le tout très fluide, et l'histoire est amusante avec les personnalités de chaque "pixel". La musique est calme et parfaite pour l'ambiance.

Thomas Was Alone is a puzzle platformer that shows off how good platforming games can be in the present day. You start out the game playing Thomas, a red rectangle, and as you progress through the stages you will meet many different characters, which you can also play. These different characters all have names and their own special ability that makes them all an integral part of the game.

The story of Thomas Was Alone is told by a narrator, his voice soothes you and this gives the game a lot of feelings. You wouldn't think you would grow any kind of attachment to simple shapes, but you do. The narration can be quite funny at times, and the fourth wall is often broken on several occasions.

I really like the art style in TOA, it's simple, yet it has that really polished feel to it. Like with most platformers, it's not exactly graphically intensive, but it still represents a pretty looking game.

Each level consist of a number of puzzles and jumping challenges to make, you have to make use of all the characters in each stage in order to progress, and often in some levels, there are more than one way to complete them, leaving you room to experiment with different methods. The difficulty of Thomas Was Alone is quite high once you reach the half way point, often at times I had to revert to a FAQ in order to figure out how to progress.

I finished Thomas Was Alone in seven hours, which is quite long for a platformer; there are also additional challenges, which involve getting to difficult to reach places that will let you squeeze a little bit out of replay-ability the game. Unfortunately though, once you've had one play through, there's not much else to see and you won't need to boot it up again.

My conclusion is that Thomas Was Alone must be in your library as it's one of, if not the best platforming experience you will have

If one had to play only a single Indie game, Thomas Was Alone would be the one, hands down.

A player starts the game as Thomas, a plain, red rectangle that has just gained sentience after being part of an artificial intelligence experiment in the real world. However, in the digital world, Thomas learns to feel and express himself, attempting to learn more about the world and his inner-conflicts and importance. Along his journey, he meets up with other shapes each with a unique ability, such as being able to double jump (Thomas and all the others can only single jump), to be used as a springboard, or to swim (which the others cannot). These shapes are a few of many characters that exist in Thomas Was Alone. Each shape has a unique personality that is conveyed by the narration throughout the game. In addition, each shape Thomas encounters is also controllable by the person playing the game, which creates the need for teamwork and strategy.

At first, the shapes think too highly of themselves to feel the need to cooperate with the others. They soon figure out that they can escape to the real world, become architects, and change the virtual world they inhabit, for the betterment of all shapes. This creates a common goal that they work toward as a team instead of as individuals. To make progress, they need each other's unique abilities.

Thomas Was Alone is a game that teaches fundamental lessons about life. We all are a part of a bigger picture and we must coexist and cooperate to make any sort of advancement. We all need to learn how to overcome obstacles to cooperation. We all need to learn the meaning of true friendship while discovering our true selves and our unique talents. These themes reverberate throughout the game, or should I say, work of art.

*I wrote a review back in 2013 (When I completed the game) but felt Thomas Was Alone could use some more justice so I constructed an updated review.*

Gameplay: 10/10 - Never was bored, played it all in one playthrough, loved the soundtrack and narration.

Storyline: 10/10+ My favorite Indie game of all time. This story speaks more than most games can.

Combat: N/A

Scary? Nope.

Pop-Ups: None.

Graphics: Not even worth rating. The story trumps the graphics in this case.

100% Achievements: Easy.

Singleplayer: 10/10 - It was so superb I played through it all in one sitting.

Replayability: 10/10 - I will definitely revist and play through Thomas Was Alone again.

Multiplayer: N/A - No multiplayer needed to admire this wonderful game.

Thomas was alone is a must buy platformer and one of my favourite games.

The gameplay.

The gameplay is simple and puzzle the longer you play the more characters you meet.
Each character has a special thing e.g on one you can bounce one is big and can go in water and much more.
New mechanics get introduced over time like gravity.
The game controls well you only use wasd/arrows and q and e to swap characters.
Most stages are usually get to this point by using the characters and pressing buttons, while the narrator tells you what the shapes think and such.


The story is told by a narrator, his voice is soothing.
the story is about Thomas which meets different shapes and the narrater tells whats they think, or what theyre doing and its quite emotional and interesting and its definetly the strongest point of the game.

Music and graphics.

Music is relaxing and the narration is amazing.
The graphic style is simple but good the characters are shapes.
Its simple and nice and minimalistic.
And the levels usually have a different background color.

Final verdict
TWA is a short simple platformer with puzzle elements with a amazing narrator and story and is defininetly a must play.
