About This Game

1998. HALF-LIFE sends a shock through the game industry with its combination of pounding action and continuous, immersive storytelling. Valve's debut title wins more than 50 game-of-the-year awards on its way to being named "Best PC Game Ever" by PC Gamer, and launches a franchise with more than eight million retail units sold worldwide.

NOW. By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.

The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people he cares about are counting on him.

The intense, real-time gameplay of Half-Life 2 is made possible only by Source®, Valve's new proprietary engine technology. Source provides major enhancements in:

  • Characters: Advanced facial animation system delivers the most sophisticated in-game characters ever seen. With 40 distinct facial "muscles," human characters convey the full array of human emotion, and respond to the player with fluidity and intelligence.
  • Physics: From pebbles to water to 2-ton trucks respond as expected, as they obey the laws of mass, friction, gravity, and buoyancy.
  • Graphics: Source's shader-based renderer, like the one used at Pixar to create movies such as Toy Story® and Monster's, Inc.®, creates the most beautiful and realistic environments ever seen in a video game.
  • AI: Neither friends nor enemies charge blindly into the fray. They can assess threats, navigate tricky terrain, and fashion weapons from whatever is at hand.

So wake up Mr. Freeman - Wake up and smell the ashes...

Fresh install again for HL2, such an Epic game for single player. The layout of this game is tremendous diverse locations and fun firefights. For many, including myself getting this game meant - getting STEAM? - what was it, how will it work and such. At the time Steam was a bit buggy and had some issues but that was 10+ years ago and look at it now... its come a long way. Half Life for me is almost like a bad habit I keep going back to after 16 years of playing HL and 10 years of HL2 I always go back for another run - because there fun! Why are they fun - its a unique world, decent graphics (top of the line when released), awesome game play, good AI, Killer music and soundtracks, fun characters and the MOD options.

My favorite levels in the game are Nova Prospect & Ravenholm... 2 fantastic levels. Headcrab zombies and poison crabs - suck especially the poison crabs they make my hair stand up and the sound they make - (girly scream).

I am all about Half Life again after my mini rant earlier in the week and the somewhat troublesome news from Valve regarding HL3 - please see the rant in the activity feed.

Recommended game if your the one person out there that has not played it yet, lol.

Half-Life 2 is an amazing game.

Half-Life 2's level design is really good and does a good job at letting you be in a confined space but not letting you feel trapped. It feels authentic in a sense that, if you're in a specific level, you're trapped by actual walls or solid and visible objects; as opposed to invisible objects. Some would think that it might have invisible walls with a futuristic touch, like blue lines going through it, since it is a Sci-Fi game.

Half-Life 2 also does an excellent job and making you feel scared. There is one level, Ravenholm, it is absolutely filled with zombies, it is a very dark and eerie level. I remember, the entire time I was playing through it, I was extremely terrified, but had to power through. It was hard.

Half-Life 2's combat is pretty spot on, almost no errors anywhere with hitboxes being fine and no noticeable or game-breaking bugs. The game also has a variety of weapons.

Half-Life 2 lets you drive 2 vehicles in the game, one of which is a Jeep, it is a very fast land-vehicle. It is mildly difficult to control while at high speeds, which isn't a bad thing, it's to be expected. The Airboat is a fast land and water vehicle which is noticeably difficult to control, at almost any time. The game has a good sue of vehicles in specific levels.

Half-Life 2's soundtrack and sounds do sound very modern. The soundtrack is extremely good, and chooses what to play at specific times, but even so, the music it does actually play is very good. Even now, while writing this review, I am listening to part of the soundtrack, Triage at Dawn, it is called. A very, very nice part of the soundtrack. The sounds, even crowbarring a toilet or a wall, do sound very real.

The game, I should talk about, doesn't, for me, at least, do an excellent job at keeping you hooked, it took me a while in between play-sessions to get back into it. But I very recently finished it.

This all makes out to be a very pleasant gaming experience, and it is highly recommended as a game.

You know how an Italian chef kisses his fingers and says something in Italian that translates to "A masterpiece" after tasting their own dish? That's how I feel about this game.

my chieldhood was all about this game i love HL1 and its exspansions but my old PC was outdated when 2 released so my Uncle 6600GT and athlon dual core CPU and 2 GB ram was great for the new game
i went to the teacher and told her that im sick and need to go home and went stright to see HL 2 :D

3 days after that my brand new PC was ready XDXD i spent every USD in the house to get it and play HL 2 on 1280x1024 at v.high and i was blown how the story continue and the tech of Source engine back at that days and i loved the game and repeated it many times with EP1 and EP2

waiting for the 3rd one on fire.

my rating the best of all times series HL 1-2 and others parts in the series 9.4\10 wich is the highest score i ever gave to a game. here i'm bought it as an Original all the pack after all these years <3

The story is a lot of fun, with lots of humor and action sequences.
The gameplay is original and creative.

All I'm going to say is this: If you've never played Half-Life 2 yet, then shame on you. This is easily one of the best, if not THE best PC game out there. I don't think anything I say here can do this game justice. You really have to play it yourself to see what all of the hype is about. And though I barely touched this on PC, I have played (and beat) this game on both the original Xbox and the 360 (as part of the Orange Box, which I also got on Steam).

"Wake up,Gordon Freeman"- G-man
Half-Life 2 is the sequel to Half-Life,the game by Valve that pretty much wrote the rules for FPSs way back in 1998.
I haven't played very much of this game myself, but I can guarantee that anyone who plays it will end up loving this game, even those that didn't play HL1 before playing this game(like me).

The plot: Gordon Freeman is brought out of stasis by the G-Man,who inserts him in a train arriving at the fictitous City 17,which was taken over by Combine forces. He eludes the Combine forces and meets Alyx and Barney, and joins the Lambda Resistance. He gets to Dr. Kleiner's lab and assists them in attempting to get a teleporter to teleport him and Alyx to Dr. Elie Vance's lab. The teleportation fails, and he goes through City 17 on foot to get to Eli's lab. He arrives at Black Mesa East and meets up with Eli, where he is captured and taken to a combine prison,Nova Prospekt. Gordon goes through a zombie infested town named Ravenholm and is given a Dune Buggy, which he uses to travel to Nova Prospekt. Eli,Alyx, and Gordon escape, the combine teleporter they used exploding in the process. Gordon and Alyx learn they were in a "slow teleport"during which a week has passed. In their absence, the Resistance mobilized against the combine, turning City 17 into a battleground. Alyx is captured by the Combine and taken to the Citadel, with Gordon, aided by Barney and D0g,goes to the Citadel. He gets caught in a Combine"confiscation chamber",which destroys all of his weapons except for the Gravity Gun,the energy enhancing it's capabilities and turning it into a superior weapon. He is tcaptured riding in a Combine transport pod and is taken to Dr. Breen's office, where he is holding Eli and Alyx captive. Breen explains his plans for further conquest of the humans by the Combine. Breen tries to escape through a portal, but Gordon destroys the portal reactor with the super-charged Gravity Gun. Breen is annihilated in the resulting explosion, but just before Gordon and Alyx get killed, time is frozen, and the G-Man appears, praising for Gordon for his actions in City 17 and the Citadel, and puts Gordon back into stasis.

The characters are pretty cool, even if some of the characters can tend to be annoying*looks at Barney*

The music is pretty cool, tho the game mostly relies on ambiance.

The weapons are pretty good, just really your standard FPS weapons, except the Gravity Gun is added, which lets you move almost any object at will. Heck, you get a crowbar also x) :)

This is an amazing game overall,it seriously deserves the critical acclaim that it's gotten, and I HIGHLY recommend this game, even to those that haven't played Half-Life before,it's def worth the 10 bucks
10/10 from me :)
