Solar 2 est un monde ouvert, un jeu bac à sable prenant place dans un univers abstrait infini. The screenshots really do not do this game justice. The formula isn't new in itself (if you've played the first evolution level of Spore, Osmos or Flash-game 'flOw', it's basically that idea (bigger consumes smaller), modelled on orbital rotation and gravity.

You start life as a small bit of rock - a tiny asteroid. You must smash into other rocks in order to grow. Grow enough and you will become a barren, rocky planet. Gather more rocks into your orbit and absorb them for your planet to grow. When it's large enough, your planet can sustain life (which has benefits and shortcomings - I won't say what as it's a bit of a spoiler). Once your planet is HUGE, it can become a minor star and draw other planets into its orbit. Be the biggest solar system. Become a binary star system. Become a black hole! Survive as other systems try to attack your marvellous achievement and turn you back into an empty, tiny planet! Best of all, you keep that planet or system. When you reload, you carry on where you left off.

Besides making your own star system, there are objectives to carry out if you wish. They're fun and challenging, but to be honest I just enjoy making the biggest star system. The controls are excellent for both keyboard (sorry - no mouse) and gamepad. A simple concept really nicely executed. Overall, this is a superb little game and I highly recommend it as one of those time-filling diversions when you don't want to dive into your huge AAA title.

So relaxing and pretty i use to play this in small amounts after getting home from work to listen to the music and enjoy the colors. One of my friends talked me into buying it when it was cheap and i never had a regret.

When you first play this game, you start as an asteroid, smash into other asteroids to become a planet, collect even more asteroids to seed life, etc. In that sense this game is really great, there are awesome challenges for almost every level and there are other planets with life and aliens to fight. It really was great back then, but there is a time when you have done all the challenges, and got most of the achievements, when you ask yourself what to do next. And this is really THE reason why I don't recommend this game, after the campaign is over there is not a lot to do left (apart from froming a 40 star system, which I do not recommend trying even though it is an achievement). The surface is there, but the essence is not. After you have unlocked all the star templates, you could go back to the beginning and play all missions again, but it didn't feel like a good experience anymore. I would even say that a modding API couldn't cure that, which is why I cannot recommend this game to anyone who is searching for something to spend more than a few days on.

Solar 2 has been my primary mobile game for a while now, and from my little experience on the PC version, it seems nearly identical.
Anyways, Solar 2 is certainly unique. It's really a lot of fun. It seems like the kind of game that would be more fun on a mobile device, but I could be wrong.
I would highly recommend Solar 2 if it seems like your type of game.

The universe is flat, like this game.

The purported "sandbox" only exists as a place for you to gain or lose mass between missions - there's nothing to do except run into stuff and run away from stuff. Your "reward" for becoming the biggest thing in the universe is to get sent back to a lower weight class to run some missions. Since everything is floating around randomly in space, there's no sense of "place" anywhere - pick a direction, it's the same stuff everywhere.

Meanwhile, the missions themselves are either "Run your asteroid/planet/star into his, see who wins" or finnicky to the point where it feels luck-based. None of them are particularly interesting, and so there is nothing in this game that is particularly interesting either.

You control a character moving through a boring black environment, completing some disjointed requests from NPCs and trying to improve your character.
This would be a very lacklustre and boring game, except you're a solar body.

Let me restate that, you are an android aspiring to become a sun (or even more).
This is very clearly the main hook of the game and it is executed well.
You can get asteroids you encounter that are smaller than you to orbit you and have the interesting ability to absorb anything orbiting you. By growing smaller you turn from an asteroid into a planet, into a sun, etc.
Does it make sense from a scientific perspective? Barely.
Is it fun? Yes. Yes it is.

What was especially impressive to me is that you can, should you want to, also become a full solar system, since planets will be able to enter your orbit when you're a star. Combine that with the ability for life to spawn on a planet you can have your own little army of space-faring creatures defending the character (something which you'll need for some of the quests).

The game isn't particularly long, but has nice replayability where you can start a new game as any solar body you've been so far in your previous sessions.
All in all I'd definitely recommend it if you want to be a planet.

THis game is awesome time killer. It has very interesting missions and a very interesting story. I recommend it to anyone, it is worth it.

Solar 2 Is a preaty good game for realatively cheap, it has a good soundtrack,which makes for a great ambiance, and some good game mechanics. I would definately recomend a purchase.

Cool concept, just not much fun for more than an hour. Very repeatitive and no so much fun. Wish getting to the black hole stage was sooner. This game is very much a niche game. Hopefully someone can take this concept and go farther and have more fun with it. Missions are pointless as well. No benefit from them expect a funny line maybe. Wouldn't recommend this unless you LOVE SPACE or STARS.

Solar 2 is a simple sandbox with not a lot to keep you compelled. Gameplay revolves around smacking into things to grow (asteroid and black hole stages) or get things in your orbit so you can press some keys to grow (planet and star stages). Missions and challenges play around with these goals, mostly by telling you to avoid contact with most things and not grow.

Some people say that the game is relaxing, and it can be if you don't care about doing anything. If you want to see anything new in the game, you will have to fly through 2D space and hope that the strange physics doesn't impede your progress. I can accept being attacked by spaceships and having to avoid obstacles, but my biggest issue is that pulling an object into orbit has a bad habit of rubber-banding the object into you, reducing your mass. So the method of growing your planet or star can randomly decide to remove your progress just because the programming has clear-cut orbit paths with the first object being yanked to the closest orbit.

Even the black hole stage is underwhelming, HOW could they mess up something that should be total fun to let loose and eat everything! Once you reach black hole stage, other black holes begin to appear, although they never spawned in the previous stages of the game. These other black holes can take objects from you, and if you hit a larger black hole than your own, you are forced to restart the state with no progress. This restart is made more terrible as black holes have a nasty issue of failing to pick up many items. Apparently entire stars and systems can fly around a black hole and not actually be swallowed.

I remember liking this game originally, but I only played for about an hour. The game has definitely become dated and feels especially mediocre now. Controls are weak, physics are annoying, and the gameplay is a repetitious grind full of elements that impede your progress. I believe I got the game for cheap in a bundle, but I wouldn't really recommend it for even $2. It's a time consumer, but similar games could be found for free. I'd recommend just playing a game you know you like, as this won't last long for most players.

First off - NOT WORTH THE MONEY

Despite this, I'm gonna recommend this game because it is fun. It's short, the missions aren't that fun and the controls make them awkward, but just crashing around space and working your way up to a blackhole before ending the universe can be an amusing pass time. The art is beautiful, the ambient music is lovely and watching an alien civilisation build itself on your solar system is fun, before you blow them up for fun or use their planet as a bowling ball to blow up a star.

Despite what reviewers said about this being 'unique', it isn't. Such games have been floating around the internet for a long time, crash your rock into smaller rocks or be a fish and eat smaller fish to grow. I think there is one about being a virus or something as well. Most are free flash games or part of the larger arcade-style gaming packs that used to be distributed back in the XP/2000 era. Solar 2 just has decent graphics, unlike all those other ones.

I don't know- maybe I'm not playing the game right, or maybe I'm just bad at it, but the game felt terrible all the way through.

The movement was what made it so unbearable for me. There are two ways to move: slow and monotonously, meticulously avoiding any stray asteroids in your path, or barreling through space and taking hits like you owe money to Mike Tyson. Even if you try to move at a slow and cautious pace, the orbital strength of other neighboring bodies is often strong enough to pull you in and smash you, and you won't have the momentum to break out of it.

The minigames are just bad. Either dodge a bunch of things being thrown at you, or don't smack the planets, just the rocks orbiting them. The game MIGHT have some redeeming qualities if it can be made into a touchscreen game for mobile tablets, but I don't see that happening soon.

You start as and small astroid,to progress you 'Attract' other astroid and merge both you and your astroid together to form and evove to a planet,later on as the sun.The final form you are able to get is the blackhole.This game provide me Hours of wandering through the space and Trying to complete missions.Overall this is a good game if you want to waste some time.
7.5/10 Should have more content and the missions/objective is too hard
One more thing,this game is not worth $10 wait till its on sale to make it worth

Solar 2 is a cathartic, easy-going game that sees you begin your journey as a small asteroid in infinite space to becoming an enormous system of various celestial bodies that force you to micro-manage your tiniest components with intense precision. The challenges add an extra layer of replayability, and whatever writing/plot exists is often humourous and entertaining. It won't take long to finish Solar 2, but I think it's a good, polished game to wind down to.

I'm a black hole right now that sucks all other planets...Except the bigger. And when I become bigger...I get new enemies...
