PREMIER EDITION

While seeking life on a distant planet, an astronaut discovers an abandoned Russian town. He suspects his mission is a hoax until a mysterious young woman saves him from a strange and deadly phenomenon... Lifeless Planet is a third-person action-adventure that features an old-school sci-fi story and spectacular environments in the spirit of classic action-adventures.

After a hard landing on the planet, the astronaut discovers the planet that was reported to be rich with life is instead a barren wasteland. When he goes searching for his crew, he makes a more startling discovery: evidence that humans have already been to this planet years ago! When he comes upon a deserted Soviet-era Russian town, he struggles to make sense of his mission. Did his light-speed travel to the planet send him back in time? Or is this all some strange Cold War hoax?

Along the way, the astronaut meets a Russian woman, Aelita, who is somehow able to survive the hostile atmosphere of the planet. Through an unusual natural phenomenon, her skin causes the soil to glow green under her feet. The player must use these glowing tracks as a guide across the planet past treacherous and deadly threats. Is she leading him to safety... or an untimely death?

Lifeless Planet was inspired by Cold War era science fiction stories, posing questions about humankind's desire for space travel. What if you journeyed across the galaxy to another planet, only to find humans had already been there? What kind of person would sign up for a one-way mission, leaving behind planet Earth and everyone they've ever known and love... to go in search of an Earth-like planet?

Equipped with a limited-use jet-pack and a mobile robotic arm, the player must use wits and skill to solve puzzles, unravel the mystery, and survive the Lifeless Planet!

Key Features:
  • Explore 20 unique and atmospheric environments on a vast and treacherous planet.
  • Follow a mysterious young woman as she guides you past dangerous terrain and deadly life-forms.
  • Investigate the startling discovery of an abandoned Russian town.
  • Experience an exciting and intriguing story through rich graphics and cinematic cut-scenes.

Bottom LIne:
Would I recommend it?
No.
At least, not at this price. It isn't worth $19.99
I wouldn't pay more that $5 for it

Abstract:
The best way to describe why this game doesn't work would be to call it a "sightseeing" game. Large enviroments provide beautiful vistas, but traversing them, slowly, without any purpose other than to get from A to B makes poor gameplay.

Synopsis:

Lifeless Planet's striking visuals, score, and intruiging plot are frustrated by ineffective controls, puzzles of arbitrary difficult, and at times, a lack of any direction whatsoever. Problems that wouldn't be terrible on their own, or in an actual exploration game.

Unfortunetly, this game isn't an exploration game. In fact, it isn't anything it wants to be. The player onto the rails with lethal force. It wants to be story driven, but the story is could fit on a single page of paper. It wants to be a mystery, but the biggest mystery, (that of why the planet is lifeless, and where the Russian town came from,) are both answered early on. It doesn't want to be a platformer, but at times, that is the central feature.

Ultimately, once the player gets the hang of the controls, the story, and the repetative puzzles, the game simply seems ot drag on toward its conclusion... forever. This is the major weakness of this game: Length. There are other problems to be sure, bad controls, unforgiving puzzles and challenges. But the length its most agregious offence. There is less story here than Portal, but the game takes about twice as long to complete. Even at only 6 hours it's too long. If the enviroments had been shrunk to a less scenic size, the gameplay might have been rewarding.

Instead, The controls are unforgiving. Walking around feels more like drving a small vehicle. At least onc death was caused by an inability of the main character to turn around in place. Nailing jumps can be difficult when distances become difficult to gauge.

Conclusion:

The story is, surprisingly compelling, if lacking in depth. The puzzles simple. The controls are frustrating in that they seem more often like death is caused by the game being unforgiving than player error.
Its best comparison would be a classic Sci-Fi short story. Like an episode of the Twilight Zone. If the game had fit into a 1-hour television block, it would have been great.
On the other hand, strictly speaking, I'm not disapointed I played it. I like those old episodes of the Twilight Zone.

I wanted to like this...it just did too many things wrong.

Lots of REALLY empty areas and dead ends (that make most of the exploration feel unrewarding,), outdated graphics, awkward transitions between levels, a few really tedious areas/puzzles, too many times that invisible walls prevented alternative solutions, not enough pay off for completing the long journey. Also, several times I had to reload the game because a critical item became literally impossible to get.

Sometimes the atmosphere and pacing was good. Music and voice acting is decent. That's about it.

Overall, too ambitious.

If you love "walking simulators," go ahead. Otherwise move along.

This is not an "Open World" game as it might seem in the video, it's a linear platformer. All you have to do is follow the guidelines "green puke" and solve a "very" few puzzles. villain and minions are non existant. The idea is great, but the gameplay killed it.

If you find the 6 hours I spent worth the $10 for you, then go for it. I personally played it because I was bored.

It's cute, not worth more than 5 dollars though.
There are moments where movement and level design become a problem.
Story is meh, could've been better. Seems rushed near the end.
Could've used more story, content, survivors.
If this were an FPS/RPG it would be a good scifi/horror theme,
definately a good blueprint for one anyways.

Jumping from rock to rock and walking for hours
gets real annoying after a while. The only thing that will
keep you playing is the story, which could've used a lot more
content seeing as it's text base mostly when you find logs.
Also, some ideas were thrown in this game, exploited a bit,
and abandonned. Waste of game assets if it doesn't culminate to anything.
