PREMIER EDITION

While seeking life on a distant planet, an astronaut discovers an abandoned Russian town. He suspects his mission is a hoax until a mysterious young woman saves him from a strange and deadly phenomenon... Lifeless Planet is a third-person action-adventure that features an old-school sci-fi story and spectacular environments in the spirit of classic action-adventures.

After a hard landing on the planet, the astronaut discovers the planet that was reported to be rich with life is instead a barren wasteland. When he goes searching for his crew, he makes a more startling discovery: evidence that humans have already been to this planet years ago! When he comes upon a deserted Soviet-era Russian town, he struggles to make sense of his mission. Did his light-speed travel to the planet send him back in time? Or is this all some strange Cold War hoax?

Along the way, the astronaut meets a Russian woman, Aelita, who is somehow able to survive the hostile atmosphere of the planet. Through an unusual natural phenomenon, her skin causes the soil to glow green under her feet. The player must use these glowing tracks as a guide across the planet past treacherous and deadly threats. Is she leading him to safety... or an untimely death?

Lifeless Planet was inspired by Cold War era science fiction stories, posing questions about humankind's desire for space travel. What if you journeyed across the galaxy to another planet, only to find humans had already been there? What kind of person would sign up for a one-way mission, leaving behind planet Earth and everyone they've ever known and love... to go in search of an Earth-like planet?

Equipped with a limited-use jet-pack and a mobile robotic arm, the player must use wits and skill to solve puzzles, unravel the mystery, and survive the Lifeless Planet!

Key Features:
  • Explore 20 unique and atmospheric environments on a vast and treacherous planet.
  • Follow a mysterious young woman as she guides you past dangerous terrain and deadly life-forms.
  • Investigate the startling discovery of an abandoned Russian town.
  • Experience an exciting and intriguing story through rich graphics and cinematic cut-scenes.

First off I would like to say the thumbs up is very much conditional upon the asking price. The appropriate price needs to be in the five to six dollar range, and this is very much a run and done affair. There is not much in the way of replay on offer in this particular title. You will probably finish it in four to five hours, and after that you will probably never touch the title ever again. Those four or five hours however are pretty decent gaming hours.

The developer has gone to some lengths to keep the experience fresh throughout, and while the game is not gorgeous by any stetch of the imagination. It certainly has its moments. The same holds true of the sountrack and sound effects. The controls are somewhat floaty, but I am sure that is by design, and the interface is actually pretty bad, but like I said this is a four to five hour long game. So compound that with no inventory management, and what you get is something you cannot possibly get frustrated with. The game is over before you even get a chance to get frustrated.

That said this game falls terribly short in one respect. The story is just good enough to get you intrigued, but after just a couple hours of playing. You will see the intrigue has degenerated into pure drivel. No character development, almost no plot to speak of, and the storytelling itself is atrocious. Everything is disjointed from beginning to end. Which can be an asset at the beginning of a story, but becomes a serious liability if it is allowed to persist. The games story will leave you feeling ambivalent or terribly unsatisfied.

This is merely a good enough game. It is more good then bad. Its greatest asset is its novelty. Its greatest liability is that it is underdone. It will however hold together for the four to five hours you will play. That said it could have been so much more. There is the seed of a great game here. Had the developer been given the resources and the time. This could have been a great game rather then an okay game.

Buy it as an okay game at the right price, and you will most likely not be disappointed.

Walking simulator is an appropriate genre for this game, as all you do is walk.

Cons:
* The puzzles are trivial
* The graphics are very average.
* Very little exposition (its boring)

Pros:
* The concept is interesting
* What story is there is interesting
* Soundtrack

This "game" needs alot more exposition. Who is the astronaut? Why does he keep going? Why do I care? What does he think of everything that has happened? Was he affected at all? Distraught? Amused? Stark raving mad? Given the light gameplay and graphics I feel the storytelling needs to be much better.

I think it is fixable, but more is needed.

This game is sooo bad! All you do is walk through lifeless enivornments. Sure the background looks pretty but you can't really explore any of it. The game drags you along from one objective to another. There is nothing else to do other than to do the menial task required to progress the story.

I'll admit the story's concept is interesting at first BUT the game is far too long. The story is told mostly through text and sometimes your character says something related to what's happening. After I while I didn't care about story. What made it worse is that not every objective you clear to keep moving on progresses the story! After I gave up on the story I was too far in so I did finish it. the ending was dissapointing to say the least. I regret spending so much time on this game; I could have been playing a much better game, or watching/reading a much better story.

This is the game:
>Walk along a non-discrete path
>Run into a roadblock
>Look around for solution
>Walk for a few minutes to solution
>Solve an extremely easy puzzle
>Walk back to road block.
Then you start back at the top, following the non-discrete path and following the steps .

I spent $6.77 on this game and it felt like a chore the entire time. Go buy a better game.

Picked up on steam sale. Spent 20 minutes jumping and missing my target due to floaty movement game mechanics that make movement/jumping seem impossible. Avoid unless you like jumping up & down over & over & over again.

This was a great game. The walking mechanics were tedious, but the story was just entertaining enough to keep me going. The ending unfortunately left me unfulfilled. Nonetheless a good game. Worth the price and time.

= Please note that this review was originally meant as a reaction to AshenRowan's review =
= We seem to find the same pro's/con's, but in a minorly different measure of importance =
= Leading to a different recommendation total =

Review:
After having finished the game, i agree with most of what AshenRowan said.

- The music/ambient sounds were wonderful. They acted out the exact role they're supposed to; drawing the player further into the game, rather than just being distracting random music. While never truly noticing any sounds/music, i always felt it there. As strange as this may sound. Think of it as air: you know it's important, you know you're always inhaling it, but you never really realize or appreciate it as such.

- The scenery, especially in cinematics, were beautiful. I have to say, however, that i don't completely agree with the comment on the graphics quality being a lot worse at times. I noticed (pretty late) that the image quality seems to be directly linked to the center of the screen. Looking directly at parts of the scenery seem to brighten, sharpen ánd enhance the overall quality of that specific part of the scenery. The point that's actually sharp is pretty small though. (Please note that i have my graphics set to "fastest", as i'm working on a laptop that doesn't fully accept its own graphics card)

- The enemies are absolutely awesome! The design is wonderful, and they're placed at good locations in the game. I find some points about the enemies quite confusing though. Some seem to be programmed to follow a specific path, while others seem to act either at random, or to your movements. Don't get me wrong, i wouldn't consider this a Con, it's just... if you don't know, it can be a bit confusing, i guess.

- I didn't really mind the "Put the rock in the whole" thingy, to be honest. However, this could've been made a bit easier, or at the very least, they could've taken out the cinematic leading up to the necessary equipment.

- AshenRowan seems to have encountered more environment issues than i have. I agree that some parts of the environment doesn't work well with the intensity/air-movement of the jetpack, but that's a matter of feeling it a few times, and it'll be fine until the next time you need to slightly alter your technique. Only once have i encountered a seemingly solid piece of environment to be completely intangible. However, again, after knowing that, i managed to jump that gap with the second try.

- There's one thing AshenRowan didn't say in his review, that seems pretty important to me: the end. It doesn't seem finished at all. There were so many things i still had to do to feel like i had completed the storyline, but it seems that only one part of the storyline is officially considered the storyline? and that one honestly only seemed minorly important, considering how the storyline developed throughout the game.

| In conclusion, i also agree with AshenRowan: I'm not necessarily satisfied (especially due to that last bit), but it's a very enjoyable game. And if you don't feel like playing for a while, and you're in a fully safe spot, just leave the game open and enjoy the ambient sounds and the music while you're busy doing other stuff.

This is one of those games where I wish there was a 'Maybe' button for do you recommend. I'd have to err on the side of 'no' on this one, though.

The premise is cool and the story is interesting, which are pretty key points in a game like this. However, to make a game interesting, it has to be more tha a series of bright spots on the screen that you walk to in order to advance the story. That's where things start to fall down.

I'm the kind of guy, that presented with an open environment, will try to seek out the nooks and crannies. I quickly found that with this game, there was no real reward for doing so ... Exploring just seemed really unsatisfying and it turned into me marching from journal entry to journal entry, largely ignoring everyhing else. There's a lot of big, open expanses of nothing.

The structures (houses, buildings, etc.) are weird lifeless props. I would have liked to have gotten to see a little bit more, gotten a feel of an abandoned place. Instead, it felt like a low budget movie set. The main character's early reaction that this is all fake rings way more true than anything else.

Some people say this game is beautiful, some say its beautiful in places and ugly in others. I'd say its pretty bland all the way through. The color palette changes, that's about it.

I will say I actually liked that the puzzles were relatively simple ... I didn't really get stuck on anything, which I liked. What I didn't like is the jumping mechanic. There's one part in particular where I failed so many times I was starting to question if it was the right path ... it was the right path, just a pain in the butt jump.

Despite all this, I plan on finishing the game. I think I'm near the end as it is ... interesting story, and I want to see how it ends. And that's worth a lot. So, consider that when you're considering the game ... want a neat sci fi story? Well, maybe it's worth giving this one a try.

Lifeless Planet is a third person Sci-Fi exploration game by Stage 2 Studios funded on Kickstarter.

Pros :
- Great looking Environments to explore
-Riveting story that kept me pretty engaged to find out what was going on.
-Pretty good value for money clocking in at around 6 hours play time. (Did get the game on sale)

Cons :
-Simplistic gameplay with a focus on exploration and telling a story.
-Its an exploration story first game, If thats not your cup of tea then this game wont change your mind.
-Some story is hidden away in collectables.

Overall really enjoyed my time with Lifeless Planet and it kept me engaged enough to smash it out in one sitting to see the conclusion of the story.

Worthy of a play especially if you find it on sale.

Lifeless Planet is an awe inspiring journey that drives the player to pursue the story and traverse the beautiful and mystical environment of an unknown planet.

Lifeless Planet is a walking simulator with mixed gameplay throughout, it is engaging but not difficult with scattered diary logs to read distributed on the planet and simple puzzles to complete.

This game stands out from the endless supply of indie titles on steam simply because of its story, yes it involves a lot of reading to fully comprehendthe concept but it is done brilliantly and ensures the players attention is captivated right from the introduction.

There are numerous platforming scenes where the player must utilise their equipped jetpack which in my opinion, is a key element as it really blends the gameplay and recenteres the games genre of exploration and adventure, plus it's fun and a little bit quirky!

The enemies are unique and brew the story, adding to the players curiosity and yearning to unearth the answer to so many unanswered questions.

Overall, Lifeless Planet is an excellent atmospheric and captivating Sci-Fi indie title that I would recommend to every story lover.

Enjoyed it... But one has to be of a certain type of person to like such games.
It got tedious and repetitive at about 3/4, otherwise it was nice to do some exploring.

Not worth 19$, my recommendation: wait for it to be on sale and then get it.

Lifeless Planet is a fun, enjoyable and beautiful game with simple gameplay mechanics. The selling point of this game is the world itself in which you get to explore. Story wise is pretty interesting as you'll get sucked into finding out what exactly happened on this supposedly new earth. Despite the exploration tag, it is pretty linear in a way in terms of exploration. It is also a short game so you could probably finish the game in one seating. Overall, I'll recommend this game to anyone who enjoys mystery, exploration, story driven game.
