Co mówią twórcy:

“Spacebase DF-9 is a simulation game in ongoing development at Double Fine Productions. The in-progress Alpha version is available right now for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Check out SpacebaseDF9.com for updates, join the community, and give feedback as the game progresses! We'll be releasing major updates roughly once a month, and hotfixes in between as needed. With each major update we'll post a video here showing what's been added and improved in the new build.

The current Alpha build is very much a sandbox - there is no explicit goal or victory condition; rather there is the implicit goal of getting a large, thriving base up and running. For tips on ways to do this, check out the Guides section in our Community Hub for info from both fans and developers.

Being an Early Access Alpha, there are bugs in the game and features we haven't been able to fully develop yet. See below for our lists of Planned Features and Known Issues. Here at Double Fine we take transparency and the goodwill of our fans very seriously, so please let us know what you think needs our attention... and thank you for your interest and support!”

In Spacebase DF-9, you'll build a home among the stars for a motley population of humans and aliens as they go about their daily lives. Mine asteroids, discover derelicts, and deal with the tribulations of galactic resettlement in Earth's distant future. Meteor impacts! Explosive decompression! Unbearable loneliness!

Key Features:

  • Resource management
Carefully plan and build your base using raw matter, mine more from asteroids.
  • Detailed simulation of oxygen and vacuum
Keep citizens comfy and safe from asphyxiation.
  • Social simulation
Citizens mingle, forming friendships and enmities that affect morale and base culture.
  • Duty assignment
Assign citizens to duties they're well suited for, and watch base efficiency and happiness increase as these skills develop.

Planned Features:

The Alpha version here on Early Access is constantly being improved! Here are some of the big ticket items in our near-term development plan:
  • Carryable objects: Citizens pick up and interact with a wide range of smaller objects: food, tools, trinkets, fashion accessories. Citizens collect and trade some of these based on personal tastes.
  • Base history screen: See a chronicle of your base you can share with other players. Capture and annotate screenshots to document important or zany events.
  • Power system: Build Fusion Reactors to provide power to rooms. Without power, lights go out and machines stop working.

Known Issues:

Pardon our space-dust! Here's a list of "known issues" - things we know are broken - in the current version of the game. We also have an internal bug tracker we use to track smaller issues in greater detail, and we'd like to make it publicly readable eventually. For now, we'll use this section to track the things we want you to know have our attention and are thinking about.
  • When post effects are disabled, emergency lighting makes some rooms pitch black.
  • Reactor Zones and Fusion Reactor objects don't do anything at the moment. In a future Alpha build they'll be needed to provide power to rooms and base objects.
  • Players can't zone a room that hasn't been built yet, and place objects in it. At some point we'd like to improve the UI around this so that it's possible to design a complete room using the Construct tool as a kind of "blueprint mode".
  • People in spacesuits appear to turn purple. This is our temporary visual treatment for "citizen is spacewalking beneath the base". We're working on a proper visual treatment for that.
  • Citizens ignore dead bodies and don't give them a proper burial. We agree this is sad. In the short term we'd like to add body bags, and in the longer term we'd like to give citizens the ability to hold funeral ceremonies before sending their departed comrade out an airlock in a spacecoffin.

This comes off more like Dwarf Fortress than some of the flashier me-too versions. Though, if you like DF you will find this unbearably simple. There is not much to see or do in the world right now but its a fun time waster. If the devs continue to deepen the possible interactions without changing the core mechanics I could see this being one of my favorite games.

This game is fun to play. However, right now, at the very beginning of alpha stages it's not worth the price. There isn't a lot of content at this time. Plus the crew's AI amounts to a lemming mentality. One wrong event could send your whole crew blindly walking towards their deaths. That said, there is a lot of fun to be had. People have personalities and some of the events can really get hectic. I'll update as this game develops.

This looks promising, but in its current state, is not very fun to play. Most of the issues center around not-very-effective AI:

- In order to keep your base functioning, you need technicians to keep all the systems in repair. However, the technician AI is TERRIBLE, and there's no way to force a technician to repair a specific machine. The only way I've been able to play is to keep my base relatively small. Once a hostile docks with my station and as a result, adds more machines, it's an unrecoverable downhill slide to all machines eventually breaking down, no matter how many technicians I add. I've also seen my technicians attempting to repair broken machinery in areas I'm deconstructing, which is a huge waste of time.

- Your citizens need to eat. They also need to sleep. If they go to the bar to eat or drink, and the bartender isn't on duty, they'll wait until he is. Even if the bartender is, himself, waiting to eat or drink. The bartenders will not serve themselves, nor is there any sort of timer that allows them to give up and move on to do something else. There's also no way to force a bartender to go on duty. When your citizens get stuck waiting on food, it makes it very easy to start a downward spiral (especially for technicians) since they obviously aren't doing their jobs if they're waiting for food.

- Defending against intruders is incredibly unreliable. From what I can tell, you're supposed to assign citizens to security duty, and use a beacon to make them congregate in a specific area, either to explore or defend against intruders. In practice, they seem to take an "I'll get to it when I'll get to it" attitude, even when their comrades are getting gunned down around them.

- Sequencing building instructions is irritating - things seem to happen only in the order you enter them in - once you put in a request, there's no way to prioritize it against other requests, except to erase it and do it again, effectively putting it at the end of the queue. The exception seems to be building walls - those seem to get built before anything else.

- Citizens coming in and out of airlocks will occasionally kill their comrades by an ill-timed depressurization

Given this is an alpha, I'm guessing/hoping these issues will be smoothed out, but as it stands, it is more frustrating to play than enjoyable.

It's an alpha, so you aren't really getting much right now. However, the developers are quite up front (and accurate) about what is currently in the game and have posted their near-future plans as well as those that are a bit further out. In particular, keeping morale up is very important (and not something you are really going to notice at this stage unless you check the forums) and isn't the easiest to do. I'm also not a huge fan of the fact that objects only have 2 orientation choices right now (as opposed to 4). However, all in all it has kept me amused for a good amount of time and offers a lot of promise for the future.
